1. What purpose does this thread serve? Some people like something, others don't...some people used to like something but moved on...some people didn't used to like but now do...I mean, really, what has to be said on this subject? It's going to be the same thread as any other of this type just with the names and places changed!

I'm tired of this crap! I hate these threads more than people that hate AP hate AP...and more than people who hate full on hate full on...etc...blah...

  2. There is always a bunch of crazy things going on beneath the surface...just listen carefully and you'll be exposed to what is really Sphongle...my first experience with Shpongle, I liked them a lot but only for the obvious musical aspects but then I began searching beneath that and found myself swimming in an ocean of psychedelia!

    Haha :P

  3. i know my sweet girl...but if u dont know...simon p. is a very poor man and he lives in paper-box outside stonehedge.so plz ppl stop downloading twisted releases because simon will be VERY angry and he will not release any twisted album AGAIN!!! (this is very serius mates...i heard that cnn and al jazira networks play simon's statements first at night news)

hey simon i ve downloaded all your releases...dont cry sick boy

    ugh...

  4. Good God that must be the WORST Shpongle track ever... it was made for one purpose only: follow up on the commercial success of Dorset Perception... except Dorset Perception was a commercial success "by chance" (Simon and Raja just did their thing in the studio and commercial trance DJs stumbled on it, liked it and played it to the masses) whereas Beija was specifically composed to be enjoyed by the masses... it represents everything that's WRONG with Shpongle... I sure hope that it won't be on their next album.

    Seconding: And you know how?!

You don't have to like something but please leave your baseless assumptions at the door gerbil king...

  5. He actually wrote well over a thousand (that we know of...) and his transcripts had little or no corrections; that is, most of the pieces were completely IN HIS HEAD before they touched paper...he was an AMAZING person. Really, if you haven't read much about Mozart then I suggest you do, regardless of what you think of his music. He was quite an enigma, one of a kind...

Simon is fucking awesome but it's just lack of knowledge that creates these sort of opinions...there are plenty of talented producers out there to match Simon's skills, IMO. Bill Laswell comes to mind...Richard James...both of whom I don't like nearly as much as most of Simon's stuff.

  6. Beware, psynews isn't the place it might seem to be! The pseudo-hippy mentality does little to hinder the crossing of opinions which clash like swords on a battlefield!

    Have fun! Hahaha

Don't worry, my asshole antics are but a show! Pay no attention to me :P

  7. i don't get the fuzz either. it's just a fucking intro to the masterpiece si & raj created.. if anything paco de lucia should be fookin' proud that he can hear his own playing on a shpongle album. what goes for my head feels like a frisbee. c'mon you've never heard that melody before? it's not a rip off to use it you know. it's like "happy birthday" song.. and have you ever heard it better than on the shpongle album, i sure haven't! some of you are terrible whiners.. no offence..

    212673

Maybe Paco de Lucia doesn't agree with you and considering it's his song......

I'm assuming he has permission to use it of course give the popularity of both Shpongle AND de Lucia, I'm sure it's come to his attention (of course, I have no idea...and there are always these funny laws everyone is speaking of...who knows.)

That "melody" you speak of isn't so recognizable...probably sounds similar to things you've heard because you aren't that familar with latin jazz? Much in the same way House and Psytrance sounds the same to someone who likes only Britney Spears or something.

    Like I said............no......perspective.........

  8. dude relax...it's my opinion..if you don't like it shoot me....

    just piano = boring

just violin = it isn't...violin rules

just one synthesizer patch = boring

no ...but i don't speak about paco de lucia...i'm not saying that HE is boring....

Shpongle use it as an intro...it's not the main part of the track.....relax...

yes it is...from now on everyone will ask me if a track changes my mood...and if i say yes and only then we will accept it...else we will say that it's boring...because everyone cares about my opinion....

    212546

What do you mean relax? What makes you think I'm not relaxed :P

I'm just challenging your perspective...I think it's really quite a valuable thing to have done to one's self hahah

Do you want me to show you some boring violin stuff? I can find some I'm sure...as well as I'm sure I could probably find some piano or guitar music that you find not so boring...

Anyway...what I said about this scene having no perspective.....well...yea..

  9. it has nothing to do if he is the best, i agree it's a nice melody but it's just guitars....nothing else...it's boring...it doesn't change my mood...

    212537

Okay, is it boring because its just guitar? What if it was just piano? Or just violin?

What if it was just one synthesizer patch?

If it isn't boring just because it is just guitar then have you heard any OTHER Paco de Lucia?

What if he had used a song by him that isn't "boring"? Would it be less acceptable in that case?

Is something boring just because it doesn't change your mood?

    So many questions...

  10. so what? he took some boring guitars and made a masterpiece....

    212463

Yes, one of the greatest flamenco guitarists in the world "boring"...I bet that's what Simon thought before he used it in his song..."hey this is 'boring', hmmm, I think I'll use it!" Get real...

This is why I can hardly stand this scene anymore...no perspective.

  11. I agree that the comparasions made and trying to compare Mozart and Simon as talents is a bit silly.

I just though that saying that the reason Mozart is considered a musical genius is because his music is old was a bit out.

Maybe Simon would be for music what Andy Warhol  has been for art. Very influential and well known.

I would not really agree with that paralell either, but if you like Warhols art or not is a matter of taste. Andy Warhol is not a great painter and anyone with a bit of deent ideas and a talent for creating hype could be a Warhol or a Pollock.

You might like their art very much and it might really speak to you, but you cannot expect people to agree when you say that "Warhol is such a talented painter".

I'll be very surprised to hear someone who think van Eyck is not a good painter.

Maybe it's boring and not very creative art for everyone, but his painting skills I think most people with a pair of eyes can see is quite exceptional.

Simon is not a great composer or a otherworldy gifted producer. He obviously have a message for a lot of people, but not for me.

    212287

Finally, someone speaks some sense! I agree wholeheartedly, except that I do love Shpongle...

  12. I can't really hear anything pretentious about Shpongle. All the melodies are subtle and mature if you ask me. Sometimes funny, but never pretentious or naive.

Listen to Day Turned To Night for example, and try to tell me it's naive and/or pretentious.

    212126

See, we can't...we can definitely comment on it's complexity though...and the only way it's more complex than classical music is how many layers of itty bitty voices and crap in it...

Complexity isn't subjective..."richness, pretentiousnes, maturity, subtlety"...those things are subjective...

  13. I am talking FACT damnit. Shpongle actually touches my consciousness. Mozart, or any composer from that era, doesn't. Shpongle evokes emotions. Only a few accomplish even this. Thus, to me, what I said is true.

Damnit, even tribal trumming (the first kind of music) makes me more emotional than classic.

    212012

Musics effect upon you has nothing to do with it's complexity...and might I also suggest trying to listen to more of it? Have you ever, for instance, heard one of Brahms piano trios? Saint-Saens Piano Concertos? Mahlers symphonies...etc etc...I have a feeling you dont know much "classical" music to be much of a judge.

You want psychedelic? Listen to Bartok's later string quartets... :P
