As a matter of fact, out of the 10+ established South African producers 0 are black... a common missconception, you see "africa" you think black... in most places where SA is represented (sports, music, etc) the people are overwhelmingly white, even though in SA they are vastly outnumbered by blacks. I have quite a few South African friends and every single one is white... All this comes down to something called apartheid... it is no more, but the scars are still VERY visible...
Now out of the off topic... Those artists DP listed are pretty anonymous, I have heard of Mubali and no one else... A very interesting "phenomenon".
I've met few black people through my life... but one Arab guy (although pretty black) asked me for some psytrance... I burned him an mp3 and he quite enjoyed it, pretty much went crazy for Mandalavandalz... too bad he has no chance to visit any parties...

Jog wheel: unless you move it, it's static... unlike vinyl. If you spin it one way (clockwise for example) with your finger the track will play faster, like fast forward... naturally, the faster you spin the jog wheel the faster it will forward... spinning the jog wheel the other way goes to rewind, same rules apply. When you're not spinning it, it doesn't move
If it doesn't move the track plays normal. You can also nudge the wheel bit by bit until it fits into whatever you want it to fit into.The thing is that the speed increment is so small that you can do precise actions with the jog wheel. Example: there's a break and you CUE at the very climax. However you most likely don't have lighting fast reflexes so you will be a bit off... miliseconds count here. Worry not, once you set the CUE you can "fine tune" it with the jog wheel... moving a very small amount (i dont know the exact measure) of time, finding the perfect spot where to release it... you can preview what you cued and tune some more if you're not happy.
The master tempo control is on the player itself, just like pitch control... not on the mixer, so it applies only to the player on which you set it.

Ok here it is in short and as simple as it can be... I'm sure someone will jump into details.
You probably already know you got 2 decks (CDJs) and a mixer. Then you've got the PA system (speakers aimed at the unsuspecting crowd), a monitor (aimed at you, playing the same as the PA system) and headphones.
The principle goes as follows:
Deck#1 is playng a track at 145bpm. You've got a track in deck#2 at 140bpm. Switch the headphones to play deck#2 only (choose which channel the headphones play on the mixer)... now you got deck#2 coming on the headphones and deck#1 coming on the monitor. Increase the pitch (speed of the track) on deck#2 until its the same speed (as close as possible anyway) as the one on deck#1. "Align" the beats on the two tracks using the jog wheel (which is theoretically a very slow rewind/forward function). Now that the two tracks are of (almost) the same speed you can mix them (put both channels on the same volume level so they are coming out simultaneously out the PA). The choice is entirely up to you how you go about it and depends on the track.
You need to know that mixers have frequency kill switches... low kills the bass/kick and high kills the cymbals, there is also medium frequency kill. What's the use you ask? Using a pure example: you usually dont want two basslines playing at the same time or two cymbal rolls... so you kill one on each track... or both. This will ease the transition between the two tracks.
After you comprehend what beatmatching is, there are actual techniques to consider... its best to have a more experienced DJ show you this in person. Watch, learn, practice. There's also the very useful feature of CUEing... will discuss it some other time.
As you might have noticed, some CDs have bpm listings for tracks in the booklets, this can help you a great deal. It gets a bit more complicated when you are not aware of what bpm the two tracks you're mixing are. Although practice cures all...
Also, about pitch control... different CDJs have different pitch precision. For example the Pioneer CDJ100 can pitch up/down a track by 0.1% while the new CDJ200 is more precise at 0.02%. So for every 1 step of the 100s pitch, 200 has 5. This means you can get closer to the bpm of the track you're mixing. Less pitch precision = more jog wheel riding. This means you will have to continuosly correct and realign the two tracks as one goes faster/slower than the other. So precision is very useful for long mixes since you won't have to be fixing all the time...
Since you say you don't get beatmatching at all this should be helpful to you... All I can say is DJing can be very FUN, but you need skill... and skill comes with practice.

Well, the closest to being "new school" and still sounding good would be Filteria... Talpa is also nice but hardly new school, and his new stuff is getting more orchestral. SynSun stopped making music
:( but if he was still at it he would be kicking ass (fight fire with fire). Goasia is a guy who loves the 90s goa and doesn't get the past 5 years, so that's who you should be looking out for if you're looking for "old school with better production quality and new tricks". Ethereal, Ypsilon 5 and Lost Buddha are all very nice

Practically in those two threads, after I have complied with all your rules to make the thread reply-worhty, and made some strong arguments, you backed off like a bitch as soon as you realized you were against the wall. Big on words and accusation, while not so much on facts... as you wish but you cannot expect me to regard your words with any respect.

There's no fullproof way of avoiding this... but some things do help it occuring less. Your choice in the end, just giving my input. Btw, good song, and it was very well used

You know very well what I wrote in the other topic that I have had that sample on a DAT tape for years and that I dont sit around listening to every single track produced in order to not use a sample someone else used.. And how come it's suddently Shpongle and not Younger Brother that used the sample? You wrote Younger Brother in the other topic. I am sure if Simon used the sample it's also been used by other artist in other genres of music. Espcially if it's been on a sample CD which I personally never owned or saw. So much for the "who came first" bullocks.
I say get over it or start making your own "original" sampled flawless music.

Triggered by EPs use of the vocals that hop in about 3min in his track Fairytale. It's been used before by Shpongle.
This has nothing to do with my personal thoughts that all samples used should be original, this is reusing the unoriginal. There seems to be a sample disk floating around which people seem to consider highly usable unaware that it's been used and overused. Examples:
1) Voices of Istanbul. Same Turkish singing can be heard at the end of "Around the world in a tea daze" and Asura's song "Lost Eden" is actually the entire vocal part.
2) Entheogenic and OTT using the same vocal samples on their debut albums. Can't remember which ones, but give them both a listen and you will hear.
3) Shpongle and OTT in general. Sure you can't get on a bus and tour Africa recording samples, but for fuck's sake change the CD... always the same samples that can be heard in mainstream music and many other forms of chill music.
And we're talking about the best of the best our scene has to offer. It's not some kid in Israel whose daddy just bought him a synth. There is so much originality in their music yet this sample business is a complete contradiction of originality. The samples are not even modified, it's just played as-is. Does anyone agree with me on this?
If you're gonna use a sample off a CD, you can't expect to be the only one using those samples considering they come from a highly popular sample disk anyone can get.

If you axe me, generalizing an enourmous genre such as rock is pretty pointless... there's too many differing genres within it.
I like rock music because...
There is much room to grow. Take the guitar for example, you can spend years learning how to play, develop new skills and techniques... and each one sounding completely different you wouldn't belive it came from the same instrument.
Synchronized instruments. I find it really spectacular when you can hear at the same time: drums & percussions, 2 guitars, bass, 2 keyboards & flute and it all fits together great! Giving a full audio experience of harmonized instruments playing on different frequencies. Which leads me to...
These musicians playing their music live. Each instrument is a person, which cannot be programmed, so it's all down to skill. This might not matter in some genres, but when the music get's really complex (changing time signatures, being one example) and everyone manages to pull it off, the result is orgasmic
. Plus there is as much room for experimentation as there is for mistakes on the fly.Vibe. There's a certain vibe to every kind of music... hard to put into words, but it defines your lifestyle in some ways. Psytrance is a perfect example.
I recommend you listen to the Ozric Tentacles and Pink Floyd. And the solo at the end of Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits off the Alchemy album
