Just having a look at those waveforms and by the looks of them all 3 of them seem perfectly in phase with a slightly different attack time - more than a timing problem I'd say the differences in attack between the three of them could be related to a plugin on whatever you're recording which has a random component on its behavior, hence the waveform is slightly different on each take. I wouldn't worry too much and in any case you know the timing issue could present itself, so you can be vigilant to it
you are right ..it's not a timing problem..
and yesterday I had a lot of fun exporting the backbone, putting some effects, glitch, exporting again and so on...crazy!!
thanks Luis! see you soon
-
After trying, tweaking and listening, I found the better way is exporting audio @ 32 bit
and googling about Ableton I found that this DAW has a timing problem with resampling.
Thanks again Luis for your help!..
and I know this is offtopic but it's really funny.. we are going to play at the same party in Spain [MIGTUOSITY] in a few weeks

maybe ISM Bazzism cal help to get out that kick
-
Sure!it helps
I just tried the 3 ways recording a small clip..and I found a weird thing.
Here is the Rendered clip (it's 1Mb):
http://depositfiles....files/2dkv1fjf5
I grouped Kick and Bass and then I tried the three way:
- Recording the group in an audio track setting the input to the Backbone group
- Rendering the Backbone group @ 32bit
- Resampling the Backbone group
and the 3 waves starts at different points...is it a bit strange?
-
Yes! I use Groups! an probably it's better to say: I abuse of groups
I work in IT and I tend to group whatever and in Ableton I follow the same path.. group group group...
I used to have 8 groups (for APC40 purpose)
and with your advice you made me realize a weird thing I do:
- Group Kick+Bass+HiHat
- Route the group o a send channel as a sends only..
It simply has no sense...the effects can be applied directly on the group
Thanks a lot for your advice and the compressor trick! I'm going to make some cleaning in my projects..
But what I'd like to know if you bounce your 'Backbone' group...and if yes, how do you make it?
Some friends of mine used to bounce the Backbone and then apply effects and whatever...
Bouncing this group of track let you more freedom to make crazy stuff, for example you can pass the bounce through effectrix and then bounce again and effectrix again..
-
I mean Kick + Bass + Hi-Hats + Percussion (maybe backbone is a more appropriate term )
-
Or you can just export the tune? That might be a lot quicker than recording.
ouch!you are right! I can simply export the tracks
I'm trying to bounce the master track just to apply some effects at the end of phrase.
And I made a mistake because is not the master track but a Group Track made of Kick-Bass-HiHats-Percussion and some more synths.
Till now I grouped all these tracks and routed them to a return channel as 'Send Only', so I could have a channel with only the Base Tracks and there I can apply filter, grain delay and all the crazy stuff.
Thanks a lot for your advice LuisBSF!
and just for curiosity.. how do you apply effects on the Base track?
-
Hii!
I'm producing with Live 8 and I've some serious problems bouncing the Master Track...
I tried with two teks and the only difference is the input setting (step 2) :
1) Create an audio track
2a) Put the input as 'Master'
or
2b) Put the input as 'Resampling'
3) Turn off the track
4) Set Monitor to 'In'
5) Arm and record!
and with these 2 teks I get some weird issues:
- if I put Master as input, the bounced track will be lower in volume
- if I put Resampling as input, the bounce track will be a bit delayed
soooo
How do you bounce your Master Track?
-
Great review!
Till now I did have only 1 Ekoplex track (from Entheos Audio Archive v3.0) and i don't know how many times I listened to it...and each time I was thinking the same:
...
The music itself is marvelously detailed and frothing over with depth.
-
Another delay that looks very good is Loomer Shift V2...
I didn't try yet, but seems to be a good one.. it's like ricochet basically (and for the same price)
-
I am looking for a quality delay/echo VST.
I have Adoppler, but it is so complex, I hardly use it. I've tried Fabfilter's Timeless 2 its pretty good, but expensive.
Most of what I have are just the basics like Sonitus delay and Cakewalk's FX delay and they are probably too basic.
My favorite one is AudioDamage Ricochet.. it's easy to understand and it gives a lot of control over your delay...
You can set pitch/filter/modulator/... for each tap...it's simpler than Timeless..but cheaper and easier
-
I've had trouble finding synths for a good price....
Ace is a very gooood synth and now it's only for 69 eu...and it worths the price
It'll demand a lot of CPU, but you can do amazing sound with this vst
-
Will there ever be any plugs available as AU from you guys?
It would be nice, but look at the FAQ of G-Sonique:
5. Is there a MAC/OSX version of your products?
Unfortunately no. No at the moment. We simply don't have such a developmnet power to do both PC&MAC vesrions.
Anyway we like this idea but we are not able to tell when the MAC/OSX version will be available, if any.
I used to make the bass with Alien...and now I'm running a Mac..thus, no Alien available

ouh yes Sir!! Psychedelic!! :D
I'm lovin' this VA!!
Thanks PIxan

how does one tune a snare? are you talking about a snare sample or a snare in a digital drum machine that has the option to adjust the "coarse" (pitch) value?
I am talking about snare samples. You can get out the note of a sample with your ears or with a spectrum analyzer. Once you have it, tune it! Put the snare on the fundamental or in the 5th using the transpose function...
-
Tips on snaredrums, do you have something you always do to your snaredrum sample, or a specific drummachine VST that you think is great for snares?
I always start from a snare sample or with Ableton Operator, and then add some distortion, comp, eq, reverb and everything could make the sound more interesting...Let your fantasy get the control
And something very important: Tune it with the song!!

Youuuuuuu!!grain delay lover!!!
[ ...me too ]

sounds to me like the kick is compressing the bassline.
+1

aahhh...the last advice: subbass!!try putting a sine wave..Sometimes works
Copy the bass MIDI track to another and then put a synth playing only a sine and try to down it an octave..
-
Hi and that you for the quick answers. I am playing a bit around with the Audiorealism Baseline2 (TB-303 emulator) myself and I have used that for bass as well as synth, but it didn't quite do the trick for me. I'll try your method and see what comes out.
BTW do you layer two bass sounds on top of each other?
This is what I mean by phat:
http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsEGAQNAu8Q
Can you guys hear what he is using, or something similar?
I love this track..I'm going to play it on saturday in a bush
I don't know how get this fat bass (and I'd love to know it)....probably the compressor is making almost all the job...and also the note at which is playing..it's very deeeep...
There is a vst from G-Sonique that seems to be very usefull: Ultrabass MX4x4...and ACE from u-he it's also a very good one
Then you can try an exciter like Xbass4000 from G-Sonique...it produces a lot of harmonics (too much sometimes) and give richness to your bass
And you could try to eq with harmonics too..it's good tek...
And for what you ask about layering...I don't layer bass sounds..
There is another little thing to care about: the pitch of the kick and the bass.. get the pitch of the kick with a Spectrum Analyzer and then try to put the bass and the kick on the same note it's changes a loooot!
-
...there are no rules/waveforms/vsts to get these sounds... anyway:Which wavesforms and which vst is commonly used in darkpsy? The one thing I cant seem to get right is a phat sounding bassline
- I guess saw and pulse are probably the most commons waveforms due to their richness in harmonics
- for synth layers in darkpsy, the FM synthesis is your friend and this funny guy could give you some interesting advice about that:
http://www.youtube.com/user/AndysPsyTutorials?feature=watch
- My preferred vst is Zebra and I think you can get a lot of interesting-weird-amazing sounds from it.
- I can't help you with bassline but a good way to start is Alien303. Try almost closing the filter and then playing with the envelope of the filter to get your sound and sure...eq and compress sidechaining with the kick... put a note that overlaps with the kick if you want more 'vibes' (don't how call it...)
hope it helps..

Go for it! Egypt is an amazing country and sure you'll love it...
I think you will have no problem traveling there...
In this moment the most 'active' city is Cairo..but you are going in the south to Assuan and Luxor... and so it's very difficult to get in trouble for something related to all happened in Egypt in these places of Egypt
A part of my family lives in Alexandria (an half of mine is Egyptian ) and they had almost no problem from when the Arab Spring starts...and they live there
so don't worry!and have a good travel!

I love this album and the way Ianuaria is changing his style...
this release seems to me more forest..and with a darker approach..but always with this groovy bass
For those who likes Ianuaria, this is a new project from him:

Dude, those are some killer Ableton Tutorials watched them all I can't wait to try some new shit

My advice is Ableton Live + Akai APC40
Ableton is the only DAW (well, there is a new one released few months ago) that let you play your music in a no-chronological way. It's not about tracks that are playing one after the other but it's about looped clips building the whole track and this sounds very good but the reality is other.
A huge problem is: making a real live and manage all these stuff without touching the wrong fader and avoiding your brain to explode could be extremely complicated where you are playing in front a lot of people
An other problem is: Mixing and Mastering. If your are playing some clips you have never played together before, maybe your sounds are overlapping and competing for frequency.
The good stuff is if you achieve putting together something you can control is extremely funny and trippy.
A video that people posts a lot about 'Building a Live-Set' is this from Tom Cosm:
