[Dark ambient?]

If anyone's interested, I've put together an ambient/dark ambient mix. A few of the artists in the mix have been mentioned on this thread.

It's my first mix, so could be improved, in particular the first part of the mix is a bit quiet.

I've tried to pick a certain kind of tracks - there are no cheesy "evil" sounds or samples, only ambiguous darkness.

[The Border Territory]

Others have already mentioned Orbital, but I'd like to mention one track in particular, Remind, from the 1993 album Orbital 2. The rest of the album is what might you might call trance and ambient dub, but that track definitely sounds like Goa trance, 303 and all. Youtube link:

 

Two good early trance albums with some hints of Goa sound are Tranceformed from beyond (1992) and X-Mix 1 (1993) from MFS. Some tracks can be found on youtube.
