  1. I noticed a lot of you are listing collaborations that involve way too many cooks. No electronic music group ever had more than four people, so maybe that should be the upper limit? Dennis Tapper, Simon Posford, Ofer Divovsky would be a killer collaboration: extreme hard psychedelic madness!

  2. Both. I like it when the beginnings and ends of songs are mixed, so there is more of a flow but one can still individually hear the beginning and end parts of tracks. I really like it when artists put transitions between their tracks, as lifeform says, because it really gives flow to the album and melds it into a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. I like mixed CD's if the mixing is GOOD, but absolutely hate them if it is mediocre or bad. It also depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I've just got to have the smooth journey, the storytelling of the mix, whereas at other times I don't mind sharp delineations between songs.

  3. I HATE it when DJ's play too much GMS/3DV/Absolum style acid music, it makes their sets SOO boring!!! Yeah, most of the songs are pretty good individually, but if I can't listen to a CD or comp of them from start to finish in one sitting, it means that there DEFINITELY is not enough variety or originality. Just because an artist combines chunky bass, meaty rhythms, crunchy sounds, farts, squelches, varying acid sounds, and simplistic melodies in slightly different proportions than other artists does not make them original!! I won't deny that GMS, Absolum, Talamasca, Nomad, Neuromotor, Activate Morlack et al. have made some killer tracks, but there really does need to be more variety in the sounds they use. Also, VERY FEW tracks in this style make me fly like those of Hux Flux, Logic Bomb, Hallucinogen, Infected Mushroom, Etnica/Pleiadians/Crop Circles, Oforia/Tandu/Pigs in Space, Space Cat, Astral Projection, Battle of the Future Buddhas, Ka-Sol, Cosmosis, Quadra, who are much more consistent in producing tracks that are truly mind-blowing rather than merely acid-filled.

  4. Maïa, EP, I totally agree with you!! However, EP, based on our past interactions in this forum, I am quite sure that you think I am one of those spoiled brats who are in the scene for all the wrong reasons. As for accepting other people's opinions and views, I find you very cool and openminded, and I give you much respect for it, except on the issue of psychoactives. I ALWAYS see posts of yours on this forum saying how drugs are unconditionally bad. I appreciate your concern for young people who aren't informed, for I am concerned as well. If you use psychedelics, you have to use them in an INFORMED manner and with the PROPER INTENT for expansion of consciousness and growth of awareness, but SO MANY young people I see aren't doing that. They are just getting fucked up, plain and simple. If you preach about being openminded, why not read Shulgin, Lilly, Leary, McKenna, Huxley, Castaneda, and other authors of their ilk? I am not trying to pick a fight, I am just trying to point out inconsistencies in the positions of people (not just EP) who claim they are very openminded, but then condemn drugs as inherently evil. I don't want to twist this thread into something it wasn't supposed to be, so please don't go off on me. Just read this, and introspect.

Back to the original subject of this thread, I think one of the reasons that girls (at least here in the US) aren't as receptive to goa is that society programs them in that manner. The societal stereotype is that girls keep their men in check; therefore, they must have less extreme tastes. Fucking sexism. It really pisses me off that girls are so much more constrained than guys in the emotional/intellectual/physical displays that they can get away with. Women are too often viewed as merely sexual possessions and moral arbiters. I totally agree with the people who say that the process of introducing girls, and in fact random people in general, to psytrance is very important. It's almost as if you trick people to open their minds to the phat beats and mind-bending, soul-uplifting sounds of this music. I've definitely found more success by slowly building up to it rather than shoving full-on in their face.

  5. The two weeks figure is a general figure based on scientific evidence from numerous studies, and of course there will be variation between individuals. 5-HTP and L-Tryptophan will raise your serotonin levels in the long run; however, your brain will eventually get used to these supplements and down-regulate its serotonin production, so I recommend a cycle of 2 months of taking 5-HTP, and then a 1 month break. I wouldn't worry about watching your consumption of foods that are rich in tryptophan; its always good to eat a lot of those :)

  6. D-Dave, Maïa, Firestorm, psilou, I totally agree with you all! However, I must make some qualifications. As long as you MODERATE your usage of MDMA and make sure to drink enough, keep your body from overheating, etc., it should only cause negligible damage to your brain. First off, make sure it is PURE!!!!!! Pure MDMA gives you a much mellower less cracked-out feeling than pressed pills with god-knows-what in them, and you don't have to worry about potentially toxic drug-drug interactions. Because it takes about two weeks for your serotonin to fully replenish, one should only do MDMA once every two weeks AT MOST, and preferably MUCH LESS frequently. After all, you want the serotonin levels in your brain to return to homeostasis and STAY THERE for a while before you deplete them again. If you want a simple explanation of what MDMA does to your brain, there is an informative slideshow on www.dancesafe.org. The two biggest things that you can do to prevent neurotoxicity/depression from MDMA are: taking 5-HTP and taking something that will block your serotonin reuptake channels after the serotonin has been released. 5-HTP, or 5-hydroxytryptophan, is a direct precursor to serotonin that is available in most health food stores. Take it daily for one week before MDMA, in order to stock up on serotonin, and at least one week afterwards, to replenish it more quickly. 5-HTP has also been shown to ameliorate MDMA neurotoxicity. The best way to block your serotonin reuptake channels (to prevent dopamine and MDMA metabolites from damaging them) is to take an SSRI (Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil) IMMEDIATELY AFTER you have come down (which should be 4-6 hours after taking the MDMA). If you can't get one, then drinking a MODERATE amount of alcohol (one to two drinks) will produce a mild neuroprotective effect, and it will also have the pleasant side effect of bringing back your roll a little bit. Taking antioxidants like vitamin C, alpha-lipoic acid, etc. will further reduce the oxidative stress that MDMA puts on your serotoninergic neurons. Hope I helped you out with all this information, and if you didn't understand any of it, don't hesitate to ask me to clarify.

  7. HALLUCINOGEN, HUX FLUX, and X-DREAM!!!!! I saw X-Dream Jan. 11 and they were fucking awesome!! The unreleased tracks they played were not just dark techno, but spanned the spectrum. And I can't wait to get my hands on Infected & Hallucinogen track, I heard it at a party once and its a real stomper! It's also been almost a year since Tapper released new tracks, so I'm eagerly awaiting those as well.

  8. Is it just me, or has he not released a new track in almost a year (since Bring Your Own Bios)? Anybody know when the next Hux Flux 12"/single/album is coming out? I sorely need more mind-bending insanity of the sort that only Dennis Tapper can provide.

  9. Listening to Alien Pump right now…couldn't resist. I NEVER tire of this track; its just SOOO good! I remember the last time I heard this at a party; it was an outlaw beach party and it was cold and rainy…I was on a hefty dose of 2C-T-7…I nearly came in my pants while dancing to this song.

    ---Rudi

  10. ALIEN PUMP 2:49!!!!! When Ofer unleashes the sickest dark acid melody!!!!! In terms of sheer, sudden, explosive, darkest-part-of-the-night "must dance" energy, this has NO EQUAL! Just talking about it makes me want to listen to it again!

Also really good are the three parts in Reload where Deedrah brings in the main synthline after a break. I remember one campout I was at when this was played during the dawn hours; everybody just jumped in the air as one when that hard-ass synthline hit!

The melody that comes in at 1:45 in Pleiadians' Headspin is also the BOMB!
