Guest ritual om Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 i once heard that this group e.g pink floyd kicks the shit out of another e.g gnotr.do u think that this statement has any sense of logic?i'm not arguing with anybody...i'm just curious.and this is an example.i don't want to specify this to the example. first of all i think that what matters is through what prism u see the superiority > is it technique,conception or anything else? but in the other hand can anybody say for sure that pink could have made music like the gnotr or vice versa? what i can say is that no one can compare artists of different genres and that each kind of music has a purpose.this purpose allows and prohibits certain things.i mean for instance trance needs to be spacey and at the same time needs to be repetitious.so don't expect constantly changing percussions and rythmes(as metal and jazz) but many intelligent manipulation in the space sonic sound, melodies.this is the place to search for the genius of psy artists.whatsoever psy is so revolutionary that this and only this guarantees the iq of the artists.i must say that i doubt if for example depeche mode could make better trance if that was their field. what are your thoughts about the difficulty of making quality psy trance and generally about the above said?thanks P.S i listen to many shit lately like:i hear all the same in these tracks(and i mean classic goa tracks) from people that don't listen to this kind of music and other bullshit like these and i am furious. i seem to tend to the opinion that psy (real psy imean, whether full on or chill out)is for very ECLECTIC,MIND ALERTED and MATURE listeners. Guest konysus Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 i agree that its very hard to compare 2 songs in different genres of music to come to a conclusion that one is better than the other, this is because of the vagueness of the word better, perhaps an assessment of which is better goes to which is better at achieving what it intends to achieve, but seeing as different genres aim to achieve different things, and to stir up different feelings, such a comparison is also inherently different.... ......however.......i think that it is possible to look at two songs from different genres, or indeed, two entire genres, and decide objectively that one is TECHNICALLY better than the other, and for me, psy music is technically amazing!!!!!.........and also stirs up in me amazingly well what i think it is designed to do - which is very hard to put in to words....... so conclusion........psy is the best"!!!!!! Guest spacemonkey Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 indeed what is your definition of quality? think hard and long and there will be no easy answer. a definition on technical performance can be made easily though and then the one will prevail over the other. but seeing the technology that was at hand then and now such a "victory" wouldn't seem entirely fair. so i think your question is not very justified.
