Review:

I was pleasantly surprised when i picked up this compilation from the german

progressive psytrance label Sunset . short trackdescription - #1 very nice

first track , it gets you in the right mood with its groovy structures . #2

the production of this track isn't realy professional but this guy has talent

, one of my favourites with a kicking bass . #3 this track is also very good ,

very deep ... the sounds are good , great work by Sascha . #4 imo the best

track on this compilation , very hypnotising track ... extremely trance

providing . #5 nice track from the reefer decree guys but not realy my

favourite , it misses something - they have done much better . #6 not bad ,

but this has been done before - not innovative imo . #7 pretty groovy track

with a nice djemboree drumroll , makes you wanna dance and this explains the

trackname ;) . #8 nice track with a nice atmosphere , i like this one . the

sounds on this release are pretty refreshing , clear and kicking , dan!

cefloor orientated ... psychedelic rating : 8/10.

All out killer compilation from Sunset Recordings -Their second compilation

release on the market, and what a great follow up it is. This is much richer

then "Sunset Boulevard", but still minimal in style and full of great artists

as the tracklist reads. All these tracks are very varied and all KILLERS, 8 of

them to be exact. Hackers (1) starts the compilation with a nice slow laid

back track, and soft bass surounded by some sad floating sounds. Very quiet

track, and very different. Jugendstil (2) is next up with their track, and

deliver a more full on progressive style, with nice rythem and percussions.

Develops great throughout and till the end -Just keeps getting better. The

Bitmonx remix (3) of Pots' original Boicucanga, which can be found on Chaishop

vol. 2, is just as good as it gets. Hard kickin Bitmonx touch, with a

shivering sound cutting through the track once in a while -One of the best,

though it's very old by now for people who have had it unreleased. It has

really been ages, since it first showed up, but finally it's available for

everyone, and everyone deserves it. Morphem (4) have really developed a even

better sound, since the release their first album "Monitoring" (Check also

"The Remedy" from ZMA and their track "Grainalizer"), so this is a truly nice,

spacey and deep track, filled with perfect percussions and layers. Reefer

Decree is without doubt one the best acts on the minimal scene right now

(Their unreleased tracks "Curved Air", "5th Bell Street" and among others

explains why). "Soundframes" is nothing compared to what they release now, and

I await their coming album with great eager, but back to their track on this

compilation; Lagrimosa (5) is made by only one part of Reefer, and that's

Oliver, but he truly keeps it up without Jiwook. This is really rich, kicking

minimal sound, with nice percussions, layers and samples -Nice breaks and

build ups. One of the best on this compilation. Metatron is new for me, but

what a track, nice rythem, nice slamming percussions and great flow. Really

groovey! Alegria comes with this outstanding track, that has nice drums as

percussions, and a nice build up through out the whole track. You have to have

this track, no matter what -So great, its hurts! Amazing break in the middle.

Dakota is new for me too and again I am surpriced, this is goddamn great! A

very different track, very changing, but its refreshing and kickin. Starts

most overwhelming and develops very pushing. Nice baseline all the way... Get

this. All is lost if you don't. 10/10 More of this pleaes? Anyone? Plastik

Park? ;)

Really nice release, even better than their previous comp (Sunset Boulevard),

and i enjoyed that 1. Sunset have a "clubbier" sound than their brother

label, Plastic Park, but I'd like to know which club is playing this type of

music, bcoz i will be there!? A release that will cross-over to many tastes;

trance, house, club, psychedelia - - - - - something for everyone in each

track. Definitely worth checkin out :-) 9/10

My only complaint is ----there could've/should've been an extra track - it can

still hold another 9min track to bring it to 74mins. Maybe a track by HUMAN

BLUE, or AMPHASIS or PRISONERS OF THE SUN ----how about more ALEGRIA????

great album! hackers--sad, slow and beautiful, in a way that only amphasis has

done before. i want to hear a party end with this kind of music (actually, i

want more of this kind of music!). jugendstil--this guys's only 19 and he's

made a perfect progressive monster. wonderful. bitmonx--'nuf said. it's

bitmonx, it's big, it's sexy, it's perfect. morphem--i love the first 3

tracks, but this one is my favorite of the album. i am stunned by this track

and the grainalizer track on the ZMA remedy album. if morphem keeps at this

deep liquid-groovy sound (and moves away from the sound on his last album)

then this act is going to be huge. reefer decree--good, but not one of their

best. metatron-good progressive sound, but nothing really jumps out at me.

alegria--for some reason, this song really annoys me. gets on my tits, so to

speak. pass. dakota--the element plus daniel and tobias, nice to hear that old

element sound again. very pretty uplifting track. hope the element puts out

some more tracks soon. 9.5/10.0 nice work philip!

Good compilation, much better than Sunset Boulevard. Standouts for me are the

Jegendstill track (there's no way I believe this guy is 19, this track is so

rich and mature!), Morphem with a dark, groovy stomper, and Bitmonx's remix of

the POTS classic. HOWEVER, I have a SERIOUS issue with the release of this

album on vinyl format. Now if all 8 of these tracks were released on one LP,

which is perfectly feasible, my purchasing it would be a no-brainer. BUT,

following the example of the Plastik Park comp Progopoly, they put out 2

(TWO!) LP's with a measly 4 tracks each. That would require me to spend

upwards of $40 just to have the entire comp on vinyl, an insidious rip off if

ever there was one. The only time I've spent that much money on a single LP

was the double 10" release of Radiohead's Kid A. I'm sorry, but this comp is

not quite at that level of musical brilliance. Sorry guys for the diatribe

here, but this kind of release policy really REALLY pisses me off. Now that

I've got that off my chest, 7/10 for the music, and a big goose egg (0/10) for

the vinyl release. Please labels, I know you don't make that much money off

vinyl, but this kind of blatant cash grab is simply ludicrous.

I want to apologize (again) for that diatribe posted above. I know complaining

about vinyl releases is both cliched and fruitless. Also I wanted to upgrade

my score, because I've been listening to this comp nonstop! I actually ended

up buying "part 2" on LP, which has the Bitmonx, Alegria, Jugendstill, and

Dakota tracks on it. I was pissed when I wrote the first review because I

really wanted the Morphem song (one word: sick!) which is on "part 1", but I

decided the 2nd part would be a better value as I love all four tracks on it.

But I think all will work out: I'm buying the "part 1" LP and giving it to a

friend! (that way I can borrow the Morphem 12" if I ever need it...

hehehe...). I'm thinking I'll give this one an 8.5/10, now that (most) of my

anger has subsided. (It's just that when something this good comes out, I'd

like to be able to afford the whole package!).
