Der Dritte Raum : Alienoid Review: I was lucky enough to get hold of a copy of this when it first came out and it proved to be quite an eye-opener!I was already a [happy] Goa-trance casualty by that time, but this was a pointer towards the styles that we take for granted today-a superb collection of new ways of approaching trance. I was initially quite baffled by some of the music here but soon got to know and love it! The name'Funk' may have put off some goa purists but it was their loss. It kicks off with the fresh and cheeky breakbeat-based sounds of Sibilant {this guy also records as Z and is part of Metal Spark and really knows how to create weird noises}.Great production values and a great sense of humour{something sadly lacking in a lot of today's music,methinks}.He also provides tracks 3& 8, which are also of a high standard of fun {check out the vocoder madness on tr3!} Der Dritte Raum appear twice, with two earthy bass & percussion-based tracks of high quality,both very tribal with a didge-type synth sound {perfect for a stomp round a nighttime bonfire}.Tr 4 sums up a lot of the feelings of that first rush of {e}nergy you feel at a party--a gorgeous/ecstatic classic! Orion turn in a fine early work,more in the traditional goa style, as do Kundalini {aka. the hugely under-rated Technossomy}. What can you say about Tr6 except 'who are you and what are you doing here?'--total Aussie madness, Ollie Olsen being one of the straightjacketed types who worked on this!
