  4. the reason why nobody in the psy scene does release albums in Dolby 5.1: the average hippie can't afford a Dolby 5.1 sound system :)

    and CDJs don't play it

I think Jean Michel Jarre did it with his album "Aero" though ... just to mention it.

    For the albums mentioned above:

Even if you don't have a home theater set up to take advantage of the 5.1 mixed DVD's you can still play the regular 2 channel stero mixed CD on your CD player.

If an artist comes out with a 5.1 mixed CD. Which some artist have done. Then that album can still be played on a regular CD / CDJ player you just won't hear it in the 5.1 mix. You'll hear it in stereo.

  5. mixing 5.1 in crazy man!! I had to edit a promotional DVD for a musical and they wanted it in 5.1.  I said it wouldn't be any problem but GODDAMN, i hate mixing 5.1. I even had to download an illegal copy of AVID and install it over my current legal copy because it didn't support 5.1 yet, while it was only 1 year old.  Otherwise i had to edit the video and audio in different applications.  I probably would not have survived that.

I had lots of problems.  It is very complicated if you have about 400 audio tracks and you have to send them to 5 speakers while you can't test it properly cause my speakers were too close to my computers.  Some sounds had to be dynamic and travel from front left to back right.  A small mistake makes a huge difference.  Imagine an actor walking into the crowd from front left to back right and his footstep going from right to back left.

    Imagine the psychedelic possibilities...........

  6. surely things will be getting more expensive when a package will not only consist of an audio cd, but also a dts 5.1 disc..  I can't imagine that will do much good to psy/ambient sales.. the fact that a dts disc can give great sound quality might compensate something.. but I can only guess even less people will buy original cds.

however it would be great if prices would remain about the same, I'm really enjoying the dts disc of Move D / Namlook XI - Sons Of Kraut  B)

    646444[/snapback]

Both releases I mentioned are normal priced albums. They might be like $2.00 more if that. Even if it did raise the price I think it would increase sales. I'm a firm believer of "you get what you pay for." And you will be recieving a better product.

  7. In 2005 The Flaming Lips re-released there album "The Soft Bulletin." Included with this release is a DVD with visuals for each track mixed in Dolby Digital 5.1

To say the least. I was thrilled to see this happen. I couldn't wait to get this into my living room and hear / see it on my home theater set up. After experiencing this album. I just haven't been able to understand why more artist aren't mixing there music in 5.1. It sounds so much better and the final effect of the music to the listener is so much greater. I mean commen sence tells you that something mixed in 5.1 is going to beat 2 channel stereo every time.

Now in 2006 BT released "This Binary Universe" and also included along with the normal 2 channel stero mixed CD is a DVD for your home entertainment enjoyment, complete with visuals for all tracks and wonderfully mixed in amazing DTS 5.1 Digital Surround. Now this is more like it. The sound mix is second to none and I love the visuals. But even if you don't you don't have to display them. Point is the DTS 5.1 mix is so much more enjoyable then 2 channel stero. I can't say enough about this release. It has absolutely left me speachless!

Even though I would definetly recommend both of these albums. Especially BT's release. This post isn't a review for these artist. Nor am I wanting to discuss if the readers here like them or not. Instead I am wondering why some of the great Psy artist out there are not taking advantage of this technology. I can't help but feel that some of these great Psy albums that we have, would be so much more powerfull if they were released / re-released in this manner. The possibilities are so much greater!

Could this possibly be the future for Psy albums? Is there anything that could help this happen? I can only hope / pray and wait patiently.

    Trevor

  8. This is a must have album!!! I can't stress this enough. The DVD is a masterpiece!! The album is incredible!!! It just gets better with every listen.

To fully enjoy this release you need to have a HD / 16x9 TV with DTS 5.1 digital surround sound.

I don't understand Why Psy artist don't do this?? I can only imagine listening to some of my better psy albums with visuals in 5.1 surround sound. Come on the technology is out there....

Please let this be the future for psy releases!!

If you enjoy electronic music then BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!

  9. I want to add one but, I can't figure out wich one to drop?? So due to such a good price. I'm just adding Jikkenteki - the long walk home and making my order a total of 11 CD's

    New list :

Perfect Stranger - learning = change

Tegma - around the world in 80 minutes

Elemental Journey - absolute ambient vol. 2

    Psykovsky - psykovsky

Abakus - that much closer to the sun

    Artifakt - artifakts II

    Mantrix - universal

    Cosma - simplicity

Electrypnose - le tireur de ficelles

    Electrypnose - subliminal melancholies

Jikkenteki - the long walk home.....

......Like I said before "Radi6404" Just because something you suggested is not on my list doesn't mean I wouldn't like having it. Please before you post anything else on this thread. Take the time to reread it from the begining. Then maybe you will see how silly you sound. Come on Dude!! Are you really this closed minded??" You've gave me your suggestions and I apreciate it greatly. Now please I feel that's enough said. We can argue about oldschool and newschool on another thread. Thanks,

    Trevor

  10. I'm making a change already Abakus - "that much closer to the sun" for Antix - "lull" I don't know, it just stood out more to me. Tough choice but like I said, "I can only do 10 for now".

    Updated list reads :

Perfect Stranger - learning = change

Tegma - around the world in 80 minutes

Elemental Journey - absolute ambient vol. 2

    Psykovsky - psykovsky

Abakus - that much closer to the sun

    Artifakt - artifakts II

    Mantrix - universal

    Cosma - simplicity

Electrypnose - le tireur de ficelles

    Electrypnose - subliminal melancholies

    Eagerly awaiting your thoughts,

    Trevor

  11. With further study here are the 10 cd's that I hope are going to be considered "GEMS" in my music collection. Time will only tell. Let me first say once again that this has been very difficult because, I've recieved so many good suggestions. Trust me I plan on getting a lot more then just 10 of these albums. But for now 10 will have to do. I still haven't placed my order but, I feel I've pretty much got it narrowed down to these....

Here they are in no particular order:

Perfect Stranger - learning = change

Tegma - around the world in 80 minutes

Elemental Journey - absolute ambient vol. 2

    Psykovsky - psykovsky

    Antix - lull

    Artifakt - artifakts II

    Mantrix - universal

    Cosma - simplicity

Electrypnose - le tireur de ficelles "I liked it so much I added the second album"

    Electrypnose - subliminal melancholies

Well that's what I've come up with. I realize I've left A lot of good albums out. But, the problem was it just wouldn't all fit into a list of 10 :) Well please let me know your thoughts before I place the order. I'm planning on making the order on Monday.

    Curious to hear your thoughts,

    Trevor

  12. Oh yeah... my list is definitly changing. Hey like I said it was only a "rough list"... Takeiteasy radi6404 :) My cart is still empty. Very difficult choices here. So many great suggestions. At the moment I just have very limited time to sort through this but, trust me it will get done. That I promise all of you. One more day of work then comes my 4 days of play! Man I love my job :D I plan on snaching up the best 10 albums that are readily availible out of this thread. This I will do ;)

    Updated list coming soon.

Thanks everyone especially you radi6404 ;)

    Trevor

  13. Look at all these suggestions!! This is great stuff. I'm learning a lot of great new stuff. I really appreciate this. This kind of sucks cause I'm pretty pressed for time. Work sucks!! Wish someone could tell me how to grow a money tree!!!!! :P

Here's what I've come up with so far. Now this is just a rough list. This is very tough to do not being able to sample these selections thoroughly like I would like to. But trust me I will defiantly do so. Also what really sucks is some of the albums that strike my intrest are going to be tough to locate. I'll be on the look out. Well here's what I've chosen so far for my upcoming order at "SaikoSounds / PsyShop." I'm sure this list will likely change once I get more time to research, listen / read. Damn I wish I could buy more then 10 but for now that's pushing it! What I don't understand is why these cd's become unavailable. This is the only style of music that I listen to that I seem to have this problem with. Figures it's slowly but surely becoming my favorite. Oh one more thing... I wish I could of read the posts that were deleted. I understand if they were completly off topic but, if they were arguments about this topic I can't help but think they would of been interesting to read to say the least. <_<

For now in random order :

    Artifack - artifackts II

    Nystagmus - Immaculate Perception

Jikkenteki - the long walk home

    Mantix - universal

    Antix - lull

    Ott - blumenkraft

The Secret Of The Thirteen Crystal Skulls - v.a.

    Psykovsky - psykovsky

Neelix - no way to leave

    Quasar - one day

    Again very very rough list.

    All thoughts are welcome.

    Wish I had more time...........Trevor

  14. Wow, thanks for all the suggestions so far. It looks like I'm going to have a lot of work on my hands to narrow all these down to 10 picks. I'm going to get started right away.

To all who asked: Yes, I do enjoy "intelligent" Dark Psy but that's not the only suggestions I'm looking for here. I'm hopeing to find the very best Albums in all genres of Psy. *Remember, only the best of the best.* To make this easier please only suggest your absolute *GEMS*

Now it's off to trying to come up with the 10 CD's for my order.

Man.... this might take awhile

    Thanks again everyone.

  15. I want to start off by saying THANK YOU!!!! to everyone here at psynews.org. I've been a reader here, off and on now for a long time. I can't say enough about how much I've enjoyed reading. Not to mention all the great new music I've found all because of this great site. I don't know one other person in my whole city or state for that matter that even knows what psytrance is :( (Columbus, OH USA ) Well atleast I do, and I have all of you to thank for it. Thanks again.

Ok here's the deal I'm getting ready to make a CD order and I was hopeing I could get some help. I've bought a lot of CD's since I've been listening to Psy some good some not so good and some are just absolute GEMS. Which brings me to the point of this post. I'm hoping instead of buying say 50 CD's to only get a few great ones that I could make a smarter buy, by getting your suggestions and opinions first. My Goal here is to make a list of 10 absolute Gems.

Now I know the first problem we are going to run into is half of the gems out there today seem to be unavailible. So please when making suggestions only chose albums that can still be purchased. If there not availible at saikosounds or psyshop please let me know where it can be bought.

I'm open to all styles. I'm just looking for your absolute favorites. That Album or Albums in your collection that just keeps making its way back into your player. Oh and of coarse is still availible for purchase today. Again my Goal is to get a list of 10 gems that I don't already own and can still be purchased today.

Thanks for all your help...... Trevor
