The Morning of the World. A land full of mysticism of spirituality and of eternal contrasts. Where moments of beauty cohabit with the chaos and noise of countless motorcycles, screeching cocks and howling dogs. Where the simplest most beautiful gestures are found daily at every crossroads, with offerings made by ladies in their ceremonial best oblivious to the trucks flashing past, drivers wild eyed, mere inches away. Serenity amidst the asphalt chaos that progress in it’s limitless appeal has bequeathed.
The industry and heat of the day are supplanted by the lull and cool of the evening. The magic of Bali is found floating in the air as the sound of the gamelan rings out at sunset. Whole villages come alive to the exquisite and exotic sound of the excited tones of this local percussion jewel where fifty or more play in rapture, for their temple, for tourists and for themselves. Once heard, forever identified with Bali.
But this xylophone jewel plays not to the 12 tone beat of the west but instead follows a scale of only 5 notes, often non-commensurate and dissonant with our familiar western system. Harmonising the two is not an attempt at fusion but instead an artist’s attempt at impressionism - to recreate and interpret the fleeting moments and idylls of a balinese year - the balinese year that exists 'Between the Silence'...
The Balinese animism that fixes their lives, the fight between good and evil, with the gods in the mountains, the demons the sea and themselves delicately balanced in between, is one of perpetual regeneration where time starts again each year and the linear chronology of the west gives way to a more primitive measure.
The Balinese year starts and ends with Nyepi, a day of silence, meditation and peace. It is a time for reflection, preceded by burnings exorcising the demons and evil spirits that inhabit the crossroads of life and offerings given to placate the destructive forces of nature. It is a regeneration that allows the Balinese to truly live not just between heaven and earth but Between the Silence...

With years of experience in the music industry across a number of different fields, Paul Kearney has, produced music for film, television , radio and performed internationally as a percussionist, drummer & keyboardist playing many styles from classical, rock, dance and experimental. As a producer in the electronic music world Paul released his first solo album ‘Mainframe’ in 2000 and the 12” single ‘Faktory Direct’ on Nine09 label, following up with subsequent compilation releases on Green Ant, Well Worn Records and Fabula Records.
He has co-written material with Loopus in Fabula and Melbourne art rock band ‘The Night Terrors’ whom performed with live as their keyboard player. Paul has performed live at a host of clubs across Australia, including major festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Winter Solstice, Outback Eclipse, Maitreya & Every Picture Tells A Story and internationally at Burning Man (USA).
In 2011 Paul is looking forward to unleash a string of releases under his new alter ego ‘peakA’, pushing the barriers in a new fusion of Psychedelic Techno & Trance onto dance floors across the universe with his unique forward thinking sounds and top level production .. ...are you ready for the ride of your life with peakA.

March 2008, in one of the most unusual events in contemporary music history, notable electronic/alternative musician David Thrussell is commissioned by DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency -- a funding body of the U.S Government and the Pentagon) to produce a recording that reflects the ideals and reality of Vision 2020, a futuristic military strategy program that first saw the light of day in May of 2000.
“The design was twofold,” says DARPA media liaison Thomas Steel, “to deliver to the men and women working in some of the Pentagon’s most challenging fields an inspiring soundtrack to their daily working lives, but also to present to the general public information and a view hitherto unconsidered of some of the lesser known branches of our military.”
Working with a sizeable budget and unprecedented access to defense installations and personnel, Thrussell took over a year to complete the project and wove many field recordings as well as the sounds of sensitive hardware and technology into the final product. “One of the greatest thrills for me,” says Thrussell, “was setting up a full P.A. inside one of the ICBM silos at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California to run and record the final mix on the title track Full Spectrum Dominance -- room ambience and all!” Incorporated also are actual recordings of top secret military activities in the upper ionosphere generated from the HAARP base in Gakona, Alaska, “If I told you what they were up to there, not only would you not believe me, but I’d still have to shoot you!,” chimes in Thrussell with a wry smile.
Asked if he sees any conflict between his latest project and his past stance as a sometimes critic of government and military activities Thrussell is quick to retort, “No, not at all. I see my role first as a musical journalist -- to present the information -- there’s plenty of time for editorialising later. And...,” he continues enthusiastically, “I’ve even invented my own sub-genre to describe the album’s unique, crunchy, downbeat sound -- Grave-step....” He smiles another beatific smile without the faintest trace of irony.
The project, comprised as it is of both motivational tunes and immersive soundscapes, has already been deemed a success by the personnel at Vandenberg, if play counts on iPods and over the base address system are anything to go by. The DARPA Arts Liaison Fund is proud to present the new Black Lung album Full Spectrum Dominance. Available to the general public June 2009 through all discerning music outlets.

Numatica is the down tempo project from Melbourne based producer Andrew Hunt focusing on dub styled sounds which incorporates ambient, chill and dance elements for both listening at home or at festivals. Growing up in New Zealand and playing guitar from an early age Andrew has played in bands of various styles in both New Zealand and Australia over the years. Numatica came about by wanting to incorporate all the various elements of electronic and acoustic music that Andrew enjoyed into the one project, with the aim of keeping the songs melodic and rhythmic with interesting song structures. Having releases on local Melbourne compilations while playing at major festivals both in Australia and New Zealand.

White Noise Carousel is the joint venture of Melbourne based composers, Nadav Rayman and Boyd Korab. Following a chance meeting at a university radio station, the collaboration was formed in 1994. At first focussing on live performance in the chillouts of the burgeoning Melbourne trance scene, composition for theatre, animation and installation has been their primary staple for the last few years. Iaminthedirectory represents a culmination of their recent work, fusing the textures of found sound, vintage electronics, a Roland sampler with faulty memory and occasional gestures towards jazz.
The album features the spoken word of Sam Sejavka, (notable for his portrayal by Michael Hutchence in the film Dogs in Space) an accomplished writer for theatre, who provides his unique brand of esoteric imagery.
