Well known and respected for their top notch compilations and album releases by the most innovative collective of artist “133 Thursdays” by “Pushmipulyu” is no exception. “Pushmipulyu” is the brainchild of “Michael Sasson & Steve Rowlands”. Based in London and living next door to each other both the artists have been a part of the electronic music scene since the early 90’s being involved with various other groundbreaking projects and organizations. “133 Thursdays” is a result of weekly jams sessions for over 3 years and hence the quirky but apt title. “Michael Sasson” is a well know and respected industry figure being head of the Megadog and Club Dog organization, infamous for their touring parties around London and the record label “Planet Dog” that gave us the first “Eat Static” and “Banco de Gaia” album releases, and now teamed with “Steve Rowlands” of the “Full Moon Scientist” fame, “133 Thursdays” seems like a album that just cannot disappoint. I wouldn’t want to do a track by track review for this one because the music on the album is a seamless eclectic fusion of various electronic music styles with a jazz twist and a very psychedelic vibe showcasing high quality and immaculate production skills by the producers. The overall jazzy and chilled out vibe is going to find its way to some great indoor lounge experiences for the saucer eyed crew. The album reminds me a bit of the ESL catalogue and other acts that fuse psychedelic elements with jazz overtones like “Flexitones” and “Electroslide”, albeit “Pushmipulyu” have their own unique sound. All tracks are musically rich and diverse, but what I really like about the album is the relentless groove that takes one from downtempo, chilled breaks, lounge to house and back into eclectic world grooves all blended with loads of live elements like the saxophone, horns, guitars, trumpets to some crazy pianos that ride with style over choppy and groovy basslines. The percussive elements are chunky and the beat arrangements are skilled reflecting on the maturity both producers have. A special mention would be the mastering of the disc, the sound is clean and crystal clear, balancing all musical elements in a perfect manner and the urban photography that makes up the artwork for this very special disc. Anyone into fusion and eclectic music styles is going to trip on this release, hats off to Andrew and Interchill to maintain innovativeness in their releases. The sophomore effort by “Liquid Records” tries to push the boundaries further and present a collection of acoustic and organic sounds streaming into dub textures, showcasing an eclectic collection of tunes. The names featured on the compilation are definitely the most innovative collective of artists who come from diverse backgrounds. Phutureprimitive, Slackbaba, Naugal Sound Experiment aka Mood Deluxe, Capsula, System 7 along with a bunch of other names blend into a sonic recipe that just cannot go wrong. We begin with some mild acoustic guitars courtesy “Terry Davey” who sets the mood into a relaxed and musical atmosphere. Jet setting into 5th gear “System 7″ provides a journey across different landscapes with its world music sound, the guitars and female vocal loops add wisely to the magical atmosphere. World music at its groovy best! Track 3 “Tsentak” by “Slackbaba” is a mild dubby ride across eastern motifs that combines elements like the tabla with a ever evolving groovy bassline that stride over fx laden piano bits on a steady but phat kickdrum. Ace stuff from the Baba himself!! Next on the sonic menu is “Naugual Sound Experiment”, a highly skilled producer from Brighton better know for his alter ego “Mood Delux”, the NSE sound is glitchy, dubby, and urban, although “Completely Sideways” explores a slightly different dubby vibe being more fluid in structure with its hanging guitar loops and relaxed bassline. Keep a look out for his debut album “Invisible Moments” soon to be released by “Liquid Records”. Teleporting into a parallel world of sounds, Cameron donnes his psychedelic breakbeat avatar as “Mood Delux” and what results is “Mercury Rising”, personally tested on chillout floors this is one monster of a track with a groovy hook that drives everyone towards the dance floor, the morphing bassline combined with psychedelic ethnic vocals and acid squelches with trippy breakdowns is nothing but skilled sonic manipulation. Track 6 “On The Air” by “Organismic” puts us back on the chilled out wagon, running a distance of 10 minutes and 49 seconds and packaged within a super slick bassline along with intelligent drum programming this is just pure bliss. Top notch stuff!!! Diving further into the sonic vortex “Capsula” treats our senses with “Golden Orb”, even though it’s filled with alien synth textures with electronic blips panning in every possible direction the track manages to keeps us on Earth with its relaxed guitar strums. I always crave for new material by DJ Rain aka Phutureprimitive ever since he released his album “Sub Conscious” in 2005, “Innerverse” has a very deep spiritual vibe, and the musical content on this one is just so rich that I find it difficult to describe the emotions that Rain manages to bring forward. This is PURE MAGIC Flowing into track 9, “Inner Marine” by “Zubdub” who is a very high prolific composer from the “Ozric Tentacles” fame enlightens us with a light and atmospheric dubby track with flutes within electronic textures. Neat stuff but nothing really groundbreaking. Ending the sophomore odyssey by Liquid Records is “Terry Davey”, who allows our senses to rewind back to the beginning of the compilation with his beautiful acoustic guitar. A perfect end to a perfect beginning! All I’ll say is Liquid Records never fails to deliver the best electronic music that bends and breaks genres; I would even dare to say that SV2 has reaffirmed my faith in the chillout scene. Soul Vibration # 2 is a sonic bassline treat that’s going to appeal to fans of varied electronic music genres and would definitely be a success across the globe. The “Liquid Crew” is full of positive vibes and I wish them nothing but success for all their musical ventures. Open Eyes (7:27) [146] India’s own Ambient & Progressive label ‘dadA Music’ is back with vengeance creating sonic manipulations in the form of ‘Kalyug - Digital Chamatkar’. “Kalyug” is the progressive alter ego of one of the labels co-founder ‘Sattyananda aka Nikhel Kumar Mahajan’ who released his ambient album ‘Internal Activities’ last year. Nikhel draws inspiration from ancient Indian Hindu mythology and has deep rooted spiritual beliefs. Kalyug is the fourth and final era in the spiritual evolution of man. According to Hindu mythology the four ages of the world are: The Krita Yug - 4800 years : The Treta Yug – 3600 years : The Dwapara Yug – 2400 years and KALYUG – 1200 years. Getting the intro out of our way allow me to guide you through the tracks. Opening the album is ‘Virtual Matter’, a chilled breakbeat tune which after a eerie heavily distorted vocal sample and metallic flute sounds makes way for the beat to set in, the grooves laid back and chilled out with sharp and acid synthlines. The track has some great potential of finding its way into the chillout floors. A great start! ‘This is your last chance after this there is not turning back’, ‘Electrical Signals’ has a bass that gets one into the groove in an instant, teamed with a muffled heavy kick drum and running at just 124 BPM this ones pure psychedelic progressive music with a very very phat groove. A great tune with a lovely, easygoing vibe. I love the way the kick drum sets in nearly after a minute followed by a slick groovy bassline on ‘Altered States’ along with sloshed pads, really dreamy melodies and electronic drones flying in all directions. Hypnotic trance inducing material for sure! Love the shotgun bassline that sets in after around 4.30 mins. Continuing with the tradition of using psychedelic samples to begin a track, we see drop in the rising tempo on ‘Civil Rights Issue’, the track has gentle melodies and clever arrangement of samples that justify the track name, ending in a twisted synth-flute frenzy which works like a charm. ‘It’s very Important’ begins with Albert Hoffman quote “It’s very important that’s one is prepared for the use of psychedelics, its not just fun it’s a very serious experiment”, which we even find printed on the cds inner sleeve. With a rolling bassline running relentlessly at 138BPM giving the track a very fullon sound or I could describe this as ‘progon’. The laid back grooves back with ‘Mind Expansion’, we are greeted by tribal percussion, tabla bits and processed female vocal chats that keeps delving along the length of the track. This could work great for those progressive open air experiences. ‘Cosmic Intervention’ is difficult to describe, the track has a very old skool goa trance vibe running along the sythlines while the layering is pure progressive, overall this ones probably my favourite 135bpm plus track on the disc. ‘Happy Life’ as the name would suggest is sunrise music with very melodious and sharp synthlines, the melodies here like the previous track emit a very old skool goa trance vibe that’s refreshing to hear these days due to the overflow of mediocre fullon sounds. ‘Open Eyes’ takes its own time to build up and move from a broken beat to a full throttle frantic pace with a rolling bassline and some funky hi-hats that sets in only after 4 and half minutes. This is the perfect way to end the groovy and uplifting acid ridden journey. The music on ‘Digital Chamatkar’ is varied, groovy and evolving with a lot of cleverly used ethnic instruments ranging from flutes, sarangi, and sitar to Indian classical music chats by talented vocalists that are omnipresent in a very subtle way which clearly define the roots of the producer. A special mention would be the extensive used of psychedelic samples which makes the album a conceptual idea that explores alternate realities and the effects of psychedelics, not trying to glamorize them but to highlight the limitless mind expansion possibilities they offer. I tend to like the slower tracks more that have a massive groove. Nikhel has come a very long way and ‘Digital Chamatkar’ is just the beginning for bigger things for a producer with immense talent. The packaging is great with some awesome psychedelic artwork and comes complete with the ‘Parental Advisory - Explicit Material’ warning on the back. 8/10 Favourite Tracks - 1,2,3,6,7,9

I’ve had the disc for almost 2 months but I still haven’t been able to come up with a review that would do justice to the depths presented within the gentle maze of sounds. “Elve” is one of the alter egos of “Matt Hillier”, who’s know for his rich percussive ambient compositions as “Ishq” or “Ishwara”. Launched as the second release on his own label “Virtual Reality Music”, “Infinite Garden” explores a warm organic and much more minimal sound that’s meant to accompany the listener’s lucid state rather then engaging them. As the title suggests the theme of the album is a tribute to nature and all things green, prepare your senses to leave all the hustle behind and focus only on the music. To capture the true essence of the album it’s apt to ensure the surrounding one listens to the album complements the passive and relaxing mood. A track by track review is of no use here, ‘Infinite Garden’ is one cohesive unit ready to be explored. The sounds are composed of heavenly choirs, ethereal synth pads, and peaceful soundscape showcasing a mesmerising union between nature and machine along with all sorts of natural sounds from chirping birds, rain forest murmurs to sounds from the microscopic living world all fused within indistinguishable yet ingenious electronic patters reflecting on our dynamic yet structured environment. ‘Matt’ is definitely in a league of his own. ‘Infinite Garden’ is for minimal and ambient music connoisseurs and it makes me sad to think that people with a fickle mind may never be able to recognise the genius behind this release. 9/10

Amaan & Ayaan Ali Khan) (9:22) Yay Alright its probably not a good idea to start a review with a "Yay" but Iam really excited about this album. Excited because of recieving a CD with a stunning booklet or maybe even more excited because of the fact that India finally has its own psychedelic downbeat label to look forward to!! "Dada Music" a venture by the "India Today Group" based in Delhi presents its first release "Internal Activities" crafted by multi talented musician and one of the label founders "Sattayananda". The album intends to elevate its listeners to a higher state of consciousness where body and soul unite. All sounds revolve around creating misty and lucid atmospheres ideal for soul surfing and window gazing. Teamed with excellent production and a stunning booklet of pictures depicting various Indian locations makes the album a steal! Sattayananda chooses to start the meditative warp with a short and confusing "Intro Prayer" I expected to hear some random devnagri prayer, but instead I had to check my speaker connection till I realized the static rip, chopped and singled out beat followed by a mystic male voice were all a part of the track. A strange but unique start. Put this one on headphones and experience a sonic head massage. "Liquid Rising" is a quite and gentle maze of sounds with multi dimensional layers of temple bells, a pagan vocal hum along with sequenced electronic blips that reminds me of "staring into the abyss by shulman". We float into the next track "Internal Activity" which is a deep vortex of distant murmurs teamed with synthetic twirls of acidic sounds. "Peace through inner peace" shows the pinnacle of Sattayananda's creative genius, a minimal atmosphere scattered with strings and a funny baby gurgle somewhere in the middle. "Inner Knowledge" is a dark ambient piece with a very alien texture, a neat sci-fi soundtrack! After taking the listeners on a somewhat darkish journey with the last 2 tracks we can see the sunrise once again with "Angel", a shamanic composition with flute and sitar sounds intertwined within an electronic dimension. "Acid Logic" is the first track on the album that shows us subtle signs of beats as the track progresses from a beatless void to a very uplifting ending. "Bhairavi Mahadev" is one of my favourites on the disc, excellent percussion and intellegent use of processed male and female vocal chants fused into harmony makes this a sure winner!. "Atmospheric Tallz", the only track on the album with a steady beat is heady mix of tribal percussion and drone syths that pans ones senses in the most fluid way, another stellar composition! The last track "Space Fields" as the name suggest is a vast and magical array of sounds that makes you float within the cosmos, featuring sitar compositions by the brothers Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan who are one of India's finest classical music composers this one really leaves one senses spangled. Its evident that "Nikhel Kumar Mahajan" has composed "Internal Activities" as an extention to his own soul, drawing inspiration from his travels across India we get a unique mix of classic and electronic that surpasses all cultural boundaries of the human mind and soul. With such a massive release "Dada Music" has definitely paved the way for psychedelic downbeat in India 8/10
