This album is as elegant as an elephant in jewlery store. It's the loudest album i've ever heard. It's just shouts and shouts and shouts. Peak after peak, climax after climax. It sounds like they've done it on a deadly mixture of Viagra and Extasy. Chill down guys.

4/10

I wish this was re-released with improved production - less mid & top-end, more bass.

It's a great music, ruined by awful mastering...

This album is.. not good at all imo, a very bad attemt at replicating infected mushrooms style, i wouldnt have minded if it was a good clone.. but this is just weak, i find it to be non psychedelic and cheesy not a good combination <_<

The Misted Muppet

From The Legend

PREAMBLE

The Misted Muppet, composed of Dagan Israeli and of Tal Hassidi, offers us an album out of the ordinary. From The Legend is an album shot straight in the world ‘heroic fantasy’. Ten stories of medieval battles, heroic wars, in an imaginary world and often violent.
The stage is set. Work with the substance of the Middle Ages, as protagonists: creatures, monsters, humans. As intrigue, myths and legends. And landscape: castles, enchanted forests, dungeon. A battle merciless between good and evil.

REVIEW

[1] THE MIST6'35''
>> Play
This title immerses us in the heart of a violent battle. A battle led by cries of pain, shock swords, falls repeated lifeless body, whinnying of frightened horses. All on a small melody worthy of the finest movie soundtracks.
Around 0'43'' we go home in a highly acidic environment with with crawling and wild sounds accompanied by a kick well delivered and and a good bass line purring. Around 1'26'', clap appeared to better accommodate around 1'30'', this melody, intriguing and acid, which zigzag on an ongoing basis. A melody very original and extremely powerful. Around 2'32'', the appearance of the harp and the piano can make a truce. Voices of supernatural creatures, mysterious and childlike, accentuate this calm evil. But this truce will be short-lived, with delusional and acid rhythm returns with a vengeance around 3'15'' with twisting and wrenching noises. Finally around 5'29'', a melody is born; melancholy and sad, it will serve results to this bloody war. It will put, however, an end to this wonderful song. [10/10]

[2] Machine Forest7'37''
>> Play
all starts with heroic music defined by the presence of traditional instruments: drums and violins, but also by flanges of electronic sounds (fx). Around 0'56'', a rhythm more sustained comes, mixing psychedelic and acidity. Around 2'27'', a melody takes shape very efficiently and repeatedly plunging us into a hypnotic state. The melody is less attractive than the first track but genuinely effective and gives the atmosphere, a sense of strange and interrogation. Around 6'31'', music becomes completely mad and uncontrollable, it comes in every sense!!! It is followed very closely by the melody of the introduction, thus ending, in a way logical, the track. [9/10]

[3] Cat Visions7'30''
>> Play
The title begins by a rather chaotic/apocalyptic intro typical horror films. The scene suggests us that the action takes place in the torture room with its narrow and dark corridors. Around 0'57'', a miaowing very crispa leaves to escape a melody with sounds bouncy and jerky. It's around 2'04'', that all brighter since Cat Visions is a continuation of track 2: Machine Forest with similar melodies. Around 2'15'', the song becomes more and more interesting, detailed and attractive. The old school operates perfectly as a puzzle. A transition without smudging making a track very psychedelic. Around 4'26'', electric guitar participate to this euphoria sound (remarkable) paying homage to the group Infected Mushroom. I have only one word, this passage is fabulous. Cat visions is certainly the most beautiful song of the album!!! [10/10]

[4] Midnight Tales6'08''
>> Play
It very quickly with a very progressive style and relatively minimal with a slight kick. This moment is very nice and gives a certain tranquility to track. Time to be upset by the arrival around 2'44'' female voice very sensual and irresistible charm mixed with a melody with combinations synchronized. A melody enhanced by a guitar with string plucked. Around 3'35'', we note the presence of harmony awkward sounding acids which will result, thereafter, by fx very psychedelic like old school around 4'54''. The kick is, of course, more pronounced and the bass line is more rapid and severe. Indeed, the second part of this track is oriented more psytrance old school. A title inspired by an admirable group Infected Mushroom. Good job. [8/10]

[5] Innocence7'20''
>> Play
This track is quite poor because the music starts up very slow and the melodies are unfortunately not very attractive. Some passages still interesting like from 3'00'' to 3'50'' and from 5'20'' to 7'20'', but the whole is very limited. Only the murky ambience comes to hide the misery. [3/10]

[6] Toward The Castle7'24''
>> Play
This track is based on the 'full on' sound very basic like the music in Psydrop's album: Fantasy Seeds. Sound too commercial. Indeed, until 4'41'' melodies and bass lines are short and are dull and lack of personalities. However. Toward The Castle will be forgiven by a second part more convincingly by the use of sounds euphoric crescendo. A passage, more nervous, but too late. [6/10]

[7] Mercenaries7'34''
>> Play
The introduction lets us imagine a horde of mercenaries traveling along a river preparing to attack prominent. They are plentiful and bloodlust. The blades are sharpened ready for slicing throats and pierce the body. The ambience is the height. The sounds are extremely realistic. By against, concerning the song fundamentally, I find it monotonous and boring. The notes do not take off, the whole remains platonic. Some small intentions here and there, without finally lead to concrete. [2/10]

[8] Might & Magic6'38''
>> Play
We starts this music by a serenade: song medieval (troubadour = French appellation) where harp, lyre, cittern and flute, took a new life. Around 0'40'', it is suddenly nipped by a full on rhythm which in turn is affected by a melody around 1'21''. Full on sound, here is very stereotypical but highlighted by a strange atmosphere and through multiple fx successful. Unfortunately, there is a melody (short) in two parts of this track: around 1’21 and around 5’15. It's little and makes Might & Magic boring. [5/10]

[9] From The Legend7'57''
>> Play
This track is huge (G.R.E.A.T.). After four disappointing tracks, The Misted Muppet again invites us into their world. Dagan and Tal put the packet and excel their talent!!
The pace is strong, the tempo is fast, the kick is strong, the music is dynamic but, especially psychedelic, thanks to the sound guitar very amplified and dominant. Each note reached the summits to give us dizzy.
Around 5'15'' From The Legend is grandiose: psychedelic and euphoria complement each other to give us chills. The notes are added one after other like dominoes, creating very expressive melodies and bold. A delight! Infected Mushroom touch' is still present. [10/10]

[10] Defender Of The Past2'15''
>> Play
The last title is sumptuous. Initially, a guitar is represented by a set of scratches very soft, then joined by a piano.
Here the piano is in the spotlight because it dominates the entire song. The keys are carefully supported, letting go melancholy and emotional notes. A violin is added on top where the strings are rubbed with tenderness. The addition of these 2 instruments makes the song exciting. Defender Of The Past announces the end credits of a film which would suggest that a sequel would be possible ... When the second album? [10/10]

CONCLUSION

From the legend is a good album. The music is inspired directly to Infected Mushroom and the atmosphere probably of The Lord Of The Rings and of Warcraft. The staging is very theatrical and similar to several small films. The beginning is pretty successful with the track from 1 to 4, and then deteriorates with the four following without being either catastrophic. Finally the album ends with a beauty From The Legend very impressive and Defender Of The Past, which seems to be a foot from nose to critics of goa trance proving that these artists are able to change registry if they wish. Bravo!!!!!

RATING = 7.5/10

"You take one persons tragedy and force the world to experience it...spread it like sickness."

Wow, what a play by play from Infected Goa!

Reading through the thread it was interesting seeing opinions change. Some loved it some hated it. This really was I felt groundbreaking when it was released back in 04. From the iconic cover to giving the music a cinematic grandeur. Comparisons to IM can't be helped, but I believe this to be wholly original. Combining psytrance with lofty symphonic elements on this scale hadn't been done before to my knowledge. It's full-on stuff yet layered well with constantly evolving textures. Partially mixed, the tracks flow nicely into each other with ominous strings and evil sounds. The album is intense and extremely atmospheric. The breaks thrust the listener back to a time when poverty was the rule, kings raced to construct the largest castle, and a dragon attack was a distinct possibility.

A real shining light in the sea of full-on, this album holds up very well and comes highly recommended from me. It starts off greatly and maintains its atmosphere all the way through. There are dips however as some tracks don't measure up to the great one's like The Mist. Very enjoyable though which is good since this project seems to have been one and done.

If this was a cooking show I would pair it with The Art of Being Non by Talpa with a side of Symphonic Adventures by SynSun. That should whet your medieval appetite.

Was browsing reviews a bit and found this thread... is this here the album the ones saying "album of the year" or 10,9/10 are talking about:

If yes, whats the deal? This is not medieval at all and not even dark or deep... but goes on the nerves with some of the used sounds. But I am also not a IM fan,so......show how different tastes are even within a "scene" or "genre" itself..but do people even know how medieval music sounds ? Certainly not like this :P  And another poster said "another crappy fullon album" I do not know what fullon is (guess Full ON weak BEAT or FULL on DRUGS Or FULL on CHEESE?) haha Weak beat he says? Yeah, why are the kickdrums so "thin"! i noted this is in many newer stuff

Well you are right it's nearly not as medieval as it could be. It's just a subtle theme here. I would not want real medieval music mixed with psytrance as usually all kinds of attempts to add world music etc. just fall flat. I also doubt it was even meant to be dark or deep, it's just full-on.
