Different versions of "Select Project - Svetlee Vetra" - Do You know the difference?

Hello,

on bandcamp You can get two versions of "Svetlee Vetra": one time for 10 Euros, one for 9 with the text "Mastering by Select Project". I checked the audio and one (9 Euro) has stronger kick than the other). Or is it just louder? Do You know why?

And do You know what sounds better on good headphones? I am confused...

And on psymarket there is just one version to download... but which one? (the player dont work on my computer).

Thanks for helping me.

For my ears, the version mastered by the artist himself sounds warmer, less digital & sharp (but also maybe slightly less 'spacious'), which would be my preference.

But it's a personal preference really and depends on how you listen to music (for headphones I'd prefer artist's version).

Very interesting! Goes to show how much mastering matters.

The first version (2012) sounds like tin cans at work to me - completely unappealing. In fact, the color of the sound feels downright unpleasant to my ears. Piercing.

The version mastered by Select Project, on the other hand, is great! Warm, broad spectrum sound, with a lovely, earthy kick.

I did listen to this on my headphones, though. Might be a different story on a good PA.

Speaking of...I had an interesting experience last year. I went to a hi-tech focused festival, and was quite surprised at just how great certain artists, whose production I previously dismissed as computer noise with nonexistent bass frequencies, sounded. Hi-tech really comes into its own when blasted out of an F1 rig. You have to hear it to believe it :)

Interesting. When I hear "Insector - Predator" I have the same feeling: thin bass, but very precise. Thats why I ask because of

the "Svetlee Vetra" album. I dont want to loose precision (I have a goog headphone), because High Tech is so fast, it must be precise to avoid sounding muddy.

Are there other High Tech Experts who can share their experiences?

Sorry, but why do you need the 'experts' for? To tell you which version will sound better for you? In mastering, outside of some very obvious mistakes, there's no "better" or "worse" - it's largely a matter of personal preference. If you plan to play it in clubs or on festivals, then get the version that sounds closer to other releases; if it's for your own listening pleasure get the one that fits you better.

It's like with recent Artha album - if you compare it to other current albums the sound picture will seem dull or even muffled, but in actuality there's still all the same effects & details but they're not dragged kicking & screaming to the front of the mix, just sit there nicely balanced with the rest of the sounds. And it makes a tremendous difference while listening - especially on the headphones - because it causes much less ear fatigue and it allows you to focus on more layers better. But that's just my preference, based on how I listen to music.

I'd take the artist's version, because it seems more balanced. The 2012 version in comparison is "tilted" to the right, i.e. some very low bass is cut out and mids & trebles are boosted, which gives that "techy", "precise" or "surgical" feeling, but gets downright annoying when lots of stuff is going on, e.g. in "Atmospheric Pressure" around 3:00

But you seem to be leaning towards the "professionally" mastered version, so go for it :)

I need experts (best would be, if someone have both versions in best quality with best equipent), because the bandcamp quality ist not the best quality, or am I wrong?

And my soundcard is not good (onboard), short: I have good headphones and a good external musicplayer, but not good quality from bandcamp and soundcard...

Early version says was mastered by Kashyyk: https://www.discogs.com/de/Select-Project-Svetlee-Vetra/release/3746136

Does someone has one version and can say something about it? I mean serious, because he/she listened many times...

I think if Select Project decided to prepare a remastered version of the album two years after the release he was not really happy with the 2012 mastering. So the 2014 version must at least be closer to his own idea of how the album should sound. And everybody here thinks that it indeed sounds better.

You have 3 people here telling you the 2014 master sounds better, all of them explaining why. You really seem like you try to desperately rationalse preferring the other version...

No, I am just critical. And: three people are not much. Remember, here on earth we are... You know what I mean.
