The Color of Pomegranites

So, this morning I've seen this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8LY2VgiikE

...and this is probably the best combination of imagery and music I have seen in a while. Now Ive decided to watch the movie from which the scene's are taken from "The Colour of Pomegranates". But I have a question for those who watched it. Will I be able to interpret the symbolism without being familiar to the time period and the artist?

edit: I misspelled the movie in the title

No, big no. But still it's a surreal movie which for me it means that you can interpret the symbolism in your own way. That's what is art about, no?

Keep in mind that the original soundtrack is much more "quiet" and the picture doesn't have that dreamy grainy effect.

Check director's other movie success as well, can;t remember the title now, just google it.
