Has any of you make Logic 5 run on Win7 64bit?

Recommended Posts

?

I know it´s old but don´t want to buy a Mac or another sequencer.-... Wanted to do some music again but found Logic would install but not run. I tried Win XP mod already. It says some error on XSkey.dll :(

If no one has an idea I need to install XP as 2nd OS with Win7 64bit I guess ? There it worked fine before...

Agree with you on apple - also a PC guy, however they're coming out with some amazing technology these days.

Review Macs vs PC for Music production and you will be surprised how much a Mac is optimized for that sort of thing.

I would also agree with many that Apple is the future, but for me it's just too much of a change to switch over. (lazy)

I don't like that its kind of a selfish technology, not being compatible with other teq devices. C'mon guys - was it designed

for another better species of humans. But yeah - kind of a natural selection - climbing the ladder of success type deal.

I would not bet on getting a stand alone version for windows, but why not ask the guys from Logic. They would know best.

Logic is a great DAW - as seen in many tuts on the web, just love those plugins that Logic has. Very proffesional

I use Ableton 9 - very happy with it, much more organized, solid and smart than FL-Studio. Unless you know what you're doing.

Don't forget, it's all about the music - I don't think if Mozart was a electronic producer he would mind which DAW you gave him.

He would have pulled those scales man. What an epic composer/producer he would have been.. ;-)

I guess a hard and long way would be to try and run Mac in virtual machine software like VirtualBox, but it being a virtual machine I doubt that you would be able to connect external audio devices like a midi keyboard.

Here's a little video guide on how to run Mac in VB.

Well I agree with the whole post. And yes, Logic is already 10 yrs or so old. Often people say, you can not use such software anymore, cause the newer ones are so much better.... I say no. Reason, as you say 100 yrs ago people made amazing music without any software :P So pretty sure we can make music (or noise) with 10 yrs. old stuff too. I don´t belong to the people who only wnat the newest stuff, I also ran XP untill 1 yr. ago than updated to 7. I will keep 7 as long as possible cause it does everything I need/want and does not crash at all.

Well basically what ppl. in other forum said, get an Apple. LOL, no not even for free. Cause Win7 does everything I need, only for a bit music stuff getting another system. Nope. Untill ur rich ofc, I am more on the poor side tho.

Thanks, but the prob seems solved. I ran Logic on XP with some kind of P4 board before (cheap As-Rock). I now have a better Gigabyte board but still with intel chipset and dual core 2,4 mhz (goes up to 3ghz way enough for me). I don´t even needed to intall anything new. I took the old HD with xp connected it to the new board and it will boot. Only 1 driver is not supported by XP (SM bus, which is not really needed). If I wanna make music however I need to disconnect my 1st HD (ahem this is a SSD) with Win7 64bit, connect the older HD with XP... done. It seems it least, have not tested on heavy load. But I don´t use much track in the sequencer anyway. I make simple 4/4 noise now - not more complex stuff like in the past :P Also still have hardware synth which can lower load in seqencer of course, if some plug has troube, I can connect a HW synth. Will test this XP partition with Logic5 a bit more on the weekend.

Win7 64bit WILL NOT run Logic 5 in any circumstances, I tried already the tricks proposed in the nets, don´t work for me....also I have older plugs, which probably don´t like 64bit OS too. The only essential plug I have is Battery ( guess it´s still version 1 but works for me). As long this and the internal Logic plugs work I am normally fine :) But Absynth should work too for athmosphere it´s great I think. Have 5-6 further freeware synths but not tried yet if they run with "new" mainboard.

Glad everything worked out for you. :)

Thanks, well got a bit of shock cause my older projects sounded so weird, but noted some of the plugs lost their settings... so actually the shit I started a year or so ago is workable if settings fixed again....

Yeah, missing plugins usually mean missing sound effects, you probably also need their respective loops and sample packs if you used them.
