Goa/Psy in Weird Places..?

Anyone ever stumbled into a random bar or cafe playing psychedelic music? Or heard it in the air only to follow the sound and find it coming from the most unlikely of places?

I didn't really stumble into it, but this was definitely up there as weird hah.

So a few months ago myself and my lovely gf travelled to Morocco for a few week holiday. After staying in riads traditional style for two weeks, on the last week I booked us into a 5 star resort on the beach of Agadir to finish with some luxury. All very fancy and full of mostly mid 20s or 40-50 yr old retirees.

Anyway, every night they would have rubbish "entertainment" downstairs, with bunches of drunk 20 something tourists getting down to the worst of the worst "music" possible.

One night however, as it was the middle of the week, we were the only people there. And, in my drunken state (yay all inclusive!) i had endless courage, and went up to the dj in the booth. I told him i would give him money if he let me play some tunes. So, of course, he let me. hah.

What occured next was no less than the first time I heard Filterias new album really, really loud, on a decent system, with the dancefloor all to ourselves, while bewildered Morrocan hosts looked on with glee and confusion. It was glorious. hah.

No doubt, if regular guests walked into that, me loving it with my head against the speaker almost they would have got quite a shock lol.

So, thats the day i got goa played in a five star resort. hah.

A few years ago we stepped in a youth hostel recommended by our tourist guide, in Wellington, New Zealand. There was a thin guy in dreadlocks at the reception and some 145-bpm fullonish Oforia track playing really loud!

With a smile I asked the guy whether he was Belgian or Dutch...he was Dutch.

I heard a local pizza place play Infected Mushroom's Converting Vegetarians (Trance Side) a few years ago. That sure felt a bit out of place, with the customers at that moment being mainly parents with their kids :D

Not psy, but a random track to be played in a random place: Skrillex - Kill Everybody in a really upscale department store. The kind with $1,000,000 diamond rings.

Kinda off-topic because it's not goa or psy, but years ago I used to visit a certain 24-hour cafe regularly with friends and coworkers, and usually pretty late at night. As the evening got late, they would begin to play more weird and/or aggressive music than the fairly tame and family-friendly stuff played during the day. That's where I first heard Dead Can Dance. I just had to ask them what the hell was playing.

My wife was watching some commercial gardening show a year or so ago on tv. I was happily ignoring it's existence until I heard Shpongle playing. It was pretty cool to see on of the biggest commercial gardenin shows spinning Shpongle.

In 2001 I was asked to fill in at a trendy cafe a mate owned as the regular dj was sick. So I spun 4 hours of Tantrance 1-8. I'll never forget the confused look of what now many would call hipsters faces as Mahadeva blasted at 9am in the morning, while some dude with a Mohawk & Space Tribe tshirt danced like he was having a fit behind the decks in the middle of the cbd on a Saturday.

In early 2000 while surfing for Internet porn, I came across a series of videos featuring the same two people in their room with Hallucinogen playing in the background.

I forget the track but I remember it was off of Twisted. I posted it to the 604 list back then. If anyone was on that and has the shit archived, you might be able to find the link... because, you know, all links stay active forever.

Was this some other guy or You're referring to Yourself in third person? Sorry, I got confused.

here in the states, no. The video game Uncharted 3 would have highlight reels for plays of the week and once the video montage had some cheesey full-on "kids bop" psy playing. Once in Camden, England, I bumped into a psy dj playing music and selling Phantasm releases at one of the markets. that was a cool experience. Across the street from him where I was, I heard bass. Psytrance bass! I then scrolled my head to the left and saw him there and immediately I b-lined right over and smiled, listening, then moved in to chat.
