How the mighty are still mighty

I recently got round to listening to Autechre's 11th album Exai and, seeing Ormion's thread in General, it occurred to me how remarkable it is that they've continually put out good music for over two decades.

So in the interest of positivity, I invite you to state which artists (psytrance or non-psytrance) have in your opinion managed to stay in the industry long-term without getting shit.

Renegade Hardware for deep neuro drum & bass (a label I know)

Midi Miliz(and there current project)

Son Kite(and Minilogue)

Elysium (from the samples of DFCB 2)

John Digweed & Bedrock Records (best progressive label around for sure)

Entheogenic

Aphex Twin, saw him live/DJ ;ast year & some amazing new sounds!

don't know if they fit really but Fear Factory. As the pioneers of cyber trance there use of industrial/trance sounds with machine like rhythmns have been amazing over the years. I think they definitely count for their last two album as even the drums have been 100% computer programmed with no real drummer at all.

Ozric Tentacles. 30 years and still as amazing as ever. never a bad album or even a single bad track (arguably).

Portion Control. Started in 1980, one of the top industrial acts both then and now.

Ubar Tmar. Psy maestro. I don't like all his music but it can't be denied that he goes his own way.

Kuro. Made some great goa trance in the nineties and still does.

Solar Fields

Carbon Based Lifeforms

Seb Taylor

Gus Till

Anthony Paul Kerby

Ishq/Matt Hillier

In my opinion always manage to put out something between very good and mind-blowingly good.

They're all instant buys for me even when I am trying to save, I got a stern look from the missus when the latest Ishq arrived this morning.

It may be just me, but I file Son Kite under "artists that are gone".

Like Mittelstandskinder Ohne Strom.

It may be not quite the same because they continue as Minilogue ... and thanks for the mentioning by the way because their last album has passed me by ... but anyway.

I would say Banco De Gaia ... he has been keeping it up ever since and he never got shitty.

Then I would say Shiva Chandra. There are folks who don't like his stuff after the first or second album, but I would say he's been keeping it up pretty straight since then and the style is so uniquely cracking and has interestingly also in the newer days never lost its characteristic concept...

Atmos also comes to mind. He may be around only since the '00s, but he's been keeping up excellent quality since then.

Just like Solar Fields by the way, a mentioning that I can only second ... not around since that very long but exceptional ever since.

Then maybe also Eat Static ... but it's been a while since they released something fresh.

And then, oddly, I would also say Magnetrixx ... interestingly I would have filed him under the dead ones not long ago, but then I stumbled across his last single that was released on mp3 last year ... so this guy is still alive and kicking ... and I find the stuff really good, maybe I'll write something about it the other day...

And non-psytrance there is Anthony Rother that first comes to mind. I haven't come across any output from him that was really bad. And the stuff that I didn't connect at first unveiled its beauty later...

Frontline Assembly. Can't remember having heard any shit from them. Great industrial since ... forever.

Other than that ... huh.

Fluke is dead since years, also the sideprojects. Front 242 have made no fresh album since an eternity...

I think I am getting old <_<

There's one more: Finntroll! Hehe...

Yeah, I'm still bummed that Son Kite's follow up to Colours never saw the light of day.

I have a feeling that since Minilogue was doing well and then BNE went bust, they just didn't have the energy/care to try getting it released.

And maybe BNE held onto the rights to it or something and it was out of their hands anyway.

Such a bummer.

KU:PALM is a big no, but the "singles" are indeed a treat. Sleepwalking, 101, Avalanche, Pyramid and Shape Charge.

Actually, Modus Operandi is probably the only good album he has produced. With Rupert you will want to mostly check his 12" projects. Unfortunately the Presha XIII 12" is just embarrassing... already sold out though and going for 15 Es on discogs!?

On another note, Seb & Marcus should stay with the Minilogue guise. Son Kite was good and the tracks are still good, but it is a different time we're talking about. They're much more comfortable in the minilogue guise right now, just listen to this epic

Autechres Exai is a complete disaster... the production is of course through the roof but the ideas has simply petered out completely. I bought the 4xLP and was ready to get my head blown of a la Garbage or Basscadet, but noooo... they've totally shifted gear into the negative. I have sorted through the 4 LPs and found 2 tracks that I liked.

Rotwang do you want the LP-box, I could send it for free if you want?

Weird. I think it's some of their best work (but then I also think that Basscadet and Garbage are some of their worst work). I'd describe Exai as sounding like LP5/EP7/Confield/Draft-era Ae but much more enjoyable to listen to.

You could probably make some money by selling it on Discogs, but I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands if you can't or won't do that for any reason.

Hah! Garbage and Basscadet is future soul music. I love 'em, my Garbage 12" is probably the most precious and most expensive 12" in my collection (runnin' at 45 Es, LOL).

I'll be putting the LP-box aside until I've gotten your adress. :)

I'm absolutely not going to make any money out of something as records. I know the real value of these plastic pieces and do not understand the hysterics.

Just sent you a PM, or whatever they're called.

You guys should start to collect LEGO, my dear friend Jalappe has gotten around to buying the millenium falcon for 1500 euros. It's nice lookin' and stuff... but... 1500 euros!?

I agree with most stuff already mentioned

But other stuff you mention here I don't like at all:

For example Digweed, I don't enjoy any of his stuff or from Bedrock. I guess it's a matter of taste.

There are tons of Rock/Metal bands and artists (i.e Portnoy, Patton etc) that produce great music for decades.... Even this years Black Sabbath album is not bad at all. I won't go into that, the list is endless: Tool, Pentagram, Pearl Jam, Dream Theater, NIN, Madball, Slipknot...

For electronica: FSOL + side projects, Seb fontaine, Vincent De moor, Juno Reactor, Boards of Canada, Most of Ulitmae (as individuals, they are older than the company), Amo Tobin...
