^^

hardtechno?? poptechno rather...

there's actually two subgenres of techno called hardtechno.

#1

#2

#1 has been called by that name since the early 90s (and is still more popular than psytrance around here; but the terminology is sometimes a bit messed up with acid techno, tribetek, ...), #2 is around and called hardtechno since about 2000.

it take it your intention was a thread about #2?

I don't really know anything about the genre, but:

That I would call house.

#2

That matches well in my mind with the term "hard techno".

The only thing I have that I might call hard techno (not counting anything in acid style since it's generally considered separately) is kind of old, some stuff off the Harthouse Retrospective album:

the first one doesn't fit into any of the above categories, but i see no other way but to call it hard techno. the second one imho has the "acid" aesthetic without actual acid, so in my book it goes into #1; i think i've even heard it in such a mixtape (pitched up of course).

yes it was about #2 , #1 sounds very dated and boring. just because there are some vocals doesnt make it pop - either ways is there a subgenre as poptechno ?

:o   ok

First one is more like it.. the second track sounds like it was made by a metal fan.

no, there isn't, but it's logical: techno + pop vocals -> poptechno ;)

i'd say look for stuff from chris liebing, carl cox and adam beyer for the early to mid 00s. afaik they all make much softer if not minimal techno now.
