You can send donations to my paypal account!

PM me for the account name ;)

We could buy one together. Every three months the mask will be relocated. I'm sure you'll be alright when I'll keep it first!

Euro 485 for such a small mask (30cm wide x 24cm high x 4cm deep) which is even mass produced (70 copies)? phefffffffffff it's all about the money at Twisted Headquarter these days.

I guess it you are a die hard fan you'll buy a lock of Simon's hair too ;)

They obviously need money if they want to run Twisted Records, I fail to see why this is bad. I understand when a musician or label wants to be able make his living with his music. You're free to not order any merchandise... Imho it would be worse if they would release music just for the sake of money, which they are imho not. Because if they would we wouldn't be waiting for a third Hallucinogen album for years now or they wouldn't evolve (for example) Younger Brother's style with every album but relase the same-same generic music.

Not that I want to order that mask btw.

Capitalism - all about the profit. It's not just selling something to keep the label alive, it's making TOO much money out of selling masks and stuff aka commercialization

Keeping it underground ?

Making some profit to make ends meet is different than making excess profit due to commercialisation of everything .

I somehow doubt Twisted is making massive profits. Yes they are "big" for a psytrance label, but that's not really saying much is it?

That being said, is does seem very steep, when I've seen very realistic halloween/etc masks for 1/5th the cost.

Selling a few Shpongle masks will hardly make it into an hardcore mainstream label.

Well, as long as I haven't seen any of their balance sheets or massive publicity in any regular record store for their releases I doubt they are actually making excessing profit in general. Even if they would be able to sell all of those masks. I could very well imagine, that they really need to money to keep the label runing. I mean how many releases of an album do get sold in the end?

If they make a massive profit from the masks, that'll allow their music to be more underground if anything. So long as the music is pure, I don't care what stupid or overpriced accessories go along with it.

Exactly what I wanted to say. I personaly would just replace the term "underground" with "good" (as in good from personal point of view ;)). I don't care if that is labeled as underground or not.

They can sell as many masks, bling bling and a lock of Simon's hair on an auction as they care. That was not my point. My point was the price is too high for such a small mass-produced item.

Obviously it is, but if they need money to keep it going it is rather logical they will not sell it for a regular price. Since that wouldn't bring them enough money but only as much money as their regular items. Imho this goes more into the direction of a donation that will give you a little benefit (the mask).

If there are people who want to pay such an amount of money for art, then imo why not.

Art has always been very pricey, if you watch the news how much money there is spent on paintings that I'm thinking, damn that's ugly.

It's their money, and their call.

I remember hearing they spend tons of money on the shpongle live shows and they do actually need the money to keep making them. I agree the mask is overpriced since it's so small but it's cool nonetheless.

70 pieces are by no means enough to call it a mass production. The term "mass production" comes with certain conditions that this product does not fulfil. The item we have here is hand moulded and hand painted... Admit that that's not your usual mass production?

Other than that, I'm with Sideeffect here. The price of art - same as its beauty - lies in the eye of the beholder. I'd definetely buy one if I had the money without the bat of an eyelid.

By the way dude, the price is not in Euros, it's in British Pound Sterling (490 Euros) :P

Regarding a lock of Simon's hair: Was that an offer? :D

1. Mass production is when you produce more than one UNIQUE piece. If i was a UNIQUE creation they could probably sell it for alot of money. But when 70 people can buy the same tiny mask I still think it's a high price. But of course each to his own ;)

2. I of course converted from Pound Sterling to Euro as Euro of course is the currency to use in an international forum (Yesterday Pound Sterling to Euro was 485). So I don't get you comment regarding the Pound Sterling :)

By definition mass production is not everything that is not unique: http://www.investorwords.com/3003/mass_production.html. Which does of course not mean that you have to like the price, as you said: to each his own. :)

To even suggest that Twisted records have somehow climbed into an evil, corporate, capital-driven mindset is a clear sign that some psy-people have serious delusions about themselves and others. But we all knew that. How dare they even sell CD's? How dare they even make me log in to their forum?

Shpongle selling a limited amount of masks from the 1st album? That's awesome. Had it been 100 pounds, I would totally have gotten one.

nitpicking ;) I am sure you got my point that 70 pieces are not a UNIQUE mask.

Of course. :) But it's still being far from mass production. Anyway, I will stop nitpicking now. ;)

I never said anything in that direction. I just said the masks are too high priced. And then I said it's all about the money which does not mean they have "a evil, corporate, capital-driven mindset" . One egg suddenly become 20 Chickens in this debate :)

I like the idea as well, the mask is sort of iconic in a weird way, but not 430£ of iconess worth, a 100-150 would be much better :P
