Release information:

The legendary producer ATMOS returns to IBOGA RECORDS with a new EP including the track “One You Need” as well as a remix by his new tech-alter ego DOMINIC THOMAS.

Sweden-based Thomasz Balicki has been an integral part of the progressive scene for well over a decade, and we can safely say that many consider him a legend. With trendsetting hits like “Klein Aber Doctor” and “The Only Process” as well as classic albums like “Headcleaner” and “2nd Brigade” he has inspired thousands of musicians, DJ’s and music-listeners across the globe as well as influenced the direction of the progressive psychedelic trance scene.

On the single “One You Need” the Atmos-trademark sound is very present. From the laidback, elegant groove to the subtle, understated melodies and pads – fans of his progressive house/trance crossover sound will feel right at home.

Thomasz is also behind a more tech-inspired remix made under his new alter ego Dominic Thomas. Following his debut release as Dominic Thomas on Grant Collins and James Monros label 4DigitalAudio, this version is a more club-focused than the original, with less focus on the pads, yet still adding new melodies that give associations to his progressive roots.

Tracklist:

01. Atmos - One You Need

02. Atmos - One You Need (Dominic Thomas Remix)

oh my god the cover does not have fractals... alert the news!!!!

Yeah, it's terrible isn't it?

Seriously, pick a random psytrance cover from any year post 2000 and there's a good chance it's some lame fantasy-sci-fi-futuristic-matrix-photoshop shit.

Compare some recent techno cover art with some recent psytrance cover art.

Psytrance cover art sucks 99 % of the time.

I'll rather comment on the music ;)

Nice job even though not my entire cup of tea :)

Judging by the samples it feels tired and uninspiring.

There are so many good covers around no matter genre (even though I have to say many psytrance/Goa covers haven't really moved forward much) so its really a matter of just looking. When that is said. Covers do not really seem that important any longer when it comes to online download shops. BUT a cover can indeed sell a release if correspond to the music and title.

In this case I do see the point of the cover. Look at the title. "One You Need" and the humor in using a look-a-like Pepsi cola bottle. Cola is highly addictive and something a lot of people seem to "need" on a daily basis :)

  • 2 weeks later...

some of the sounds used are such a turn off. i like the structure, but it's hard to build something good with duplo.

and if i'm right, it's trying to be both funky (or housy) and spacy (or trancy) while it does neither really well.

listening to the sample now for the 3rd time since starting this post and man it's such a drag... a really crisp drag though!

but i would not be so harsh or post this at all if i thought this was terrible, didn't like some Atmos or felt he couldn't do better.

I'm a huge Atmos fan ("Bad 2 The Bone 4 46 Daz" ;) ) and I got this one now ... but I also have to say it's not really that good.

This sounds like one of those tracks composed in an afternoon.

Interestingly the Dominic Thomas Remix is even the better track on the release (oops, "Dominic Thomas" is Atmos :P)

After all I will probably even listen to it often ... but it's nowhere near the tracks on his last album.

If you want to get something off Beatport, get the Tour De Trance Bonus EP! Much better tracks there I'd say...
