Best Of Other Electronica 2009

My picks of 2009, despite there is still some making up to do, would roughly look like this:

Jeff Mills - Sleeper wakes (Third Ear) (what is this? Does this guy get only better the more wrinkles he gets? One of his best albums yet!!!)

Joris Voorn - Balance 014 (EQ Recordings)

Planetary Assault Systems - Temporary suspension (Ostgut Ton)

Those would be the albums, as for vinyls, these made a mark:

Ancient Methods - Third method (Ancient Methods)

Ancient Methods - Fourth method (Ancient Methods)

*for me, Ancient Methods are the best project I have listened to since the demise of BMB

Surgeon - Hello Oslo (Counterbalance)

Ugandan Methods - Mat Oput - 1/2 (Downwards)

Oscar Mulero:Svreca - As this as christ (2009)

Robert Hood - Superman/Range (M-Plant)

Your turn now!

Rameses III - I Could Not Love You More ( lovely drone )

DJ Sprinkles- Midtown 120 Blues ( killer house record)

Quantec- Cauldron Subsidence ( like sven )

Mokira - persona ( another one for ambient fans)

Mind Over Midi- Habitat (gorgeous)

Telefon Tel Aviv- Immolate Yourself

Have really enjoyed:

Scanner - Rockets unto the edges of edges (very powerful experimental stuff. In a league of it's own)

Brock Van Whey - White clouds drift on and on (drone music to really get lost in plus a 2nd more dubby mix of the whole thing by Intrusion which may as well be a totally different release)

Lissom - Nest of iterations (more lovely drone. Extremely atmospheric)

Damn, I was so hoping for a topic like this and had some things I wanted to add here, but the only one I can think of right now is:

Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue (WARP)

highly original mix of styles, there's a little bit of everything in here which can be both a turnoff for purists and a huge turn on for eclectici like myself.

More will follow!

Wisp - The Shimmering Hour

Clubroot – Clubroot

deep, dark dubby & steppy tunes.

Yagya - Rigning

excellent theme-based album with a lot of atmosphere. for rainy daze.

Contenders that I haven't yet explored myself (how weird is that?) but that I feel can still make a big impact on me. (Where to buy, by the way?)

Telefon tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself

The Black Dog – Further Vexations

Ochre - Like Dust Of The Balance

Monolake - Silence

I'm kinda disappointed in the amount of response here... this is a topic I was looking forward to, a lot! Bring on the recommendations, guys. I got such a lot of inspiration out of last year's topic... :)

I will, as well as I will post in the 2008 thread, which I started and didn't post anything there :) There's just so much outside of psytrance, that it takes lots of time to track down and actually listen :)

Looking forward to more posts as well.

Access and Aphorism are great. :)

Haven't checked out Oxyd though. But now I definitely will.

Well, it's a bit tricky album imo, there's a bunch of choir samples going on which made me laugh at it first, but it has some melodies and I know I'm going to like it more once I've had more listens :)

e. And I can't understand how I could've left out the real gem released last year: End - The Dangerous Class !!!

I always knew Mr. Charles Peirce had something good growing inside of him and he finally was able to let it all out, the album is freakin' brilliant B)

F*** Buttons - Tarot Sport This is some pretty cool noise stuff from last year (according to Discogs. Thought it was a 2010 release myself). At first I wasn't so sure as it's quite abrasive and very exhausting to the ear but after a few listens I'm digging what they've done here. The first track on the album, 'Surf Solar', has an awesome repeating sample right the way through and when they eventually drop the thing it feels like your anchorpoint has been dissintegrated and you just float higher and higher. Cool and unlike anything else I own.

Lusine - A Certain Distance Again I thought this was a 2010 but discogs says not :) Very nice, warm, techno beats underlaying nice pop stylised vocals. Two Dots is the most pop-ish of the tracks on show here (gotta love her voice), the rest are more abstract with less of an obvious chorus structure (excluding 'Twilight' which is extremely vocal driven but perhaps personally weaker than 'Two Dots'). My favourite on here has to be 'Gravity' in which the beat is generated through majorly chopping up spoken word segments. Lusine's previous work 'Language Barrier' is absolutely outstanding also but is in a very different style, so much so that it's difficult to compare the two. I'd say that as a whole I enjoy 'Language Barrier' a lot more, but that's because I'm an ambient head at heart :)

Pillowdiver - Sleeping Pills Does exactly what it says on the digipack; this provokes an extremely pleasent feeling of warmth and sluggishness that can only be nice after a long days graft... Messes with my brain so much but I don't really know what to say about it. It's experimental, guitar driven and gloopy slow. Awesome release even if I can't express how nice a piece this is.
