I Dont Like Koxbox.

I am an elitist but I think the majority of others around here are against elitism: they support things like re-releasing CDs, releasing music for free, etc.

Maybe we can use a different word for believing your opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong. ;)

Elysium, nobody here flames people for not liking Goa/Psy. You seem to have your own conception of the people here, based perhaps on past times.

I would indeed like the names of the people who mock and the people mocked, would help me alot to understand your criticism. I would also like the names of the people who can be called trolls other than bwhale (and why)...

And I strongly disagree about you and JonCrow's theory of the "stagnant elitist opiniation". People at the beginning of the thread were ready to criticize Koxbox. I personally (and I am sure most of the people here) have no problem getting their favourite artists criticized. As long as when they try to discuss about it they don't get called "stupid" every two sentences. Then there is a problem with the criticizer, don't you think?...

I think you need to take a closer look at many past and recent threads. To say nobody here mock those who haven't got the same music taste is absolutely wrong! I have seen many comments putting people down when they do not agree with those who think Psy/Goa is superior to anything else or just simply have another taste in artists or don't think (an example) that Posford is that amazing etc. etc.

This got nothing to do with my past (Cheap shot and nothing to do with this debate). It's just an observation that I see some of you guys still do not want to acknowledge as being true. Wonder why ;)

You asked for names. Even though it's of an older date as they were driven away by the pie news clicque, and at that time, a few of their moderator friends accepted this in my opinion unacceptable behaviour and even joined in, here are a few of the names that got the FULL and worse pie news mocking, slaughter, bullying till date. And why? Because they were different, not as "cool" as those who did the mocking, did not have many friends here and was a bit geeky.

If you still object to the facts then I feel sorry for your denial.

Now these names had the worse mocking I've seen in forums. And then there still are the small bullets fired at others for not sharing the same views as you guys. Not as serious as the two above mentioned examples but still serious enough to keep people from signing up to pie news.

That's the naked truth like it or not.

And back to Koxbox.

Frank has announced a soon to be released new Album on Ibizrecords. I hope it won’t be even more Full on which seem to be the trademark coming from that Island.

I dont really care about bwhale. If he is as bad as you say (some of you could also be called trolls hehe) then ignore the dude. My main point is still that all is old news here. I cannot count the many times people have been mocked, bashed and been the target of very rude insults by the elite here. Just because they were a bit different, had other views than the "open minded" ones or had different taste in music than the ûber cool Goa/Psytrance (people haven't moved on in taste the last +10 years here wink wink). I can make a list of people that never deserved the bullying at pie news. And I 100% agree with JonCrows latest input. So this was and is my 2 cents. Now go on and bully whoever you like and tell them their taste is wrong etc. It does not make this place grow with fresh blood. On the contrary! But maybe that is your strategy. To keep it a place for the few :)

Just to remind you that you, personally you has bashed me in the past for saying that progressive is shit.

So the thing you judge today was something you also did in the past.

This is how internet works.

And afaik although psynews can be sometimes a close minded place it's open to any discussions, topics and tastes as long its doesn't involve trolling of the worst kind.

Hey,

There are a few here that do seem a bit burnt out. Clinging to the past and each other and colouring the present time and newer listeners/psynews members with their tired attitudes. You gotta move on or adapt as you just stuff it up for yourself and others. Everything changes, KoxBox cannot be Forever After.

To give a personal example that always reminds me of this place and the feeling I get here from some of the users. I used to love video games. I used to work in a video game store and be a moderator on one of the biggest video game sites on the net, IGN. /nerd

Around the age of 20 my feelings started drastically changing. To me most of the newer video games then and these days are just tired rehashes or mild tangents of concepts already done from the past but now just with flashier production values etc. I didn't hang round and whinge, cling and waste time. I just moved on. It was healthier for me and others. I wish they still made games for the 2-D, 16-bit systems like the Sega Mega-Drive when the scene was young and had more freedom from commercialism etc.

There is a lot of good here at Psynews. I like visiting to check out what's going on. Seems generally like a great group of people that come together to discuss and contribute to something we all love. In our day to day lives there may not be many face-to-face opportunities to do so. Because the scene is quite small, this site has a unique responsibility. It's nice to think that a site like this, due to it's prominence, can have an impact and that you and I as contributors can play a constructive part if we wish to do so. It's great to share opinions, ideas, experiences and purchases. Even more so, idealistically, it's exciting to share if it's in an environment that's open and generally accepting of difference and change.

Thanks!

Jon :)

I think you meant Cinos.

One thing I noticed about you is that you tend to stick up for the "little" guy.

It's even reflected in your music and the political ideas behind it like for example "Shameful SIlence" and connection to the people in Lebanon, "Keep It Cool" for the war in Bosnia back in a day, comments about immigrants in Denmark and "fascist" government etc.

Obviously I don't know you in person, but you do seem to care for people that are in some sort of way underprivileged or at least perceived as such from your perspective.

Kind of like Zoro or Robin Hood.

This is just an observation, kind of an "Elysium" theme I noticed over time.

It definitely isn't meant to make fun of you and if anything, you deserve praise for willing to stand up for these kinds of issues.

I can't think of many artists, public names in this scene or any for that matter that would be willing to get down and dirty into a thread with bunch of unknown people, put your name on the line, to stand up for what you believe and help someone you have

never even met.

I was would be interesting to hear your comments on this.

What motivates you to do such things?

Very off-topic. Sorry Mars.

I think it's the way I have been brought up by my parents and I have numerous times got myself into trouble for standing behind what I see as injustice. All my childhood I was lectured from teachers to keep my mouth shut when they unjust picked on a student for various reasons. But I always feel a need to speak my mind when I see injustice. I am sure if I was wiser I would just keep my mouth shut :)

I've never really thought about if it would harm my music career. It probably does but that's a price I am willing to pay. I rather air my honest opinion than keep silent as so many artists do because they are afraid to lose gigs and/or popularity.

I have the biggest respect for artists such as Bono for always speaking his mind. And funny enough he became more popular doing so. Sometimes I think the many so-called open-minded people in the psy/goa/progressive/full on scene are the most close-minded people I have come across. Of course I cannot generalize as there are many open-minded people too. But quite a few I have come across want to have a image of being into environmental issues (Save the World, Hug a tree, Save the Wales etc.), even though they trash nature like none else at various parties, are consuming electronics like no one else etc. They also want to be humanitarian correct so they support a "Free Tibet" but get downright insulting, some even hysteric, when someone like me dare to support child victims in Lebanon. And I could go on. I am sure you get my point.

So I guess my motivation is that I really can’t stand hypocrisy and hateful people no matter if they are small minded racists (yes they do exist in this scene and also in disguise as Artists, Dj’s etc. We are no more Saints than any other “community”) or just people who do what they are told because the people they surround themselves with say so.

Way to go. What a nice debate you conduct. Sorry mate I won’t shut up.

You go, girlfriend.

You are not the King of Pie News

No, I'm not. In fact, I have very little in common with most of the people here when it comes to taste: I'm not much of a fan of old-school goa, own few if any Suntrip records, and listen to the kind of darkpsy that most people here hate. I don't even own anything by Koxbox. But despite these facts, nobody has ever called for me to be banned, or called me a troll, or directed any of the other behaviours about which you're complaining at me. Why do you suppose that is? Doesn't look like it has anything to do with taste in music.

so I will keep saying what I like. Eat that :)

And yes I did read it all and no it's not a victim card but a honest "oh shut up yourself for once" kind of reaction and yes I saw the usual small group of people telling him that his taste is wrong but their own taste is superior kind of arguments.

Really? Please tell me where, exactly, in posts 2 - 16 of this thread, you saw "the usual small group of people telling him that his taste is wrong but their own taste is superior". Perhaps it was in one of these quotes?

Agneton: I don't like Koxbox either.

Peyote: I can understand you don't like it but the sounds aren't standard and it's full of melodies just not the usual suspects, for me dragon tales is one of the most unique psytrance releases.

Oopie: We all hear music differently, there's nothing wrong in not liking a high rated artist

fosku: Dragon Tales and The Great Unknown are one of those rare psy/goa releases I haven't gotten tired of. Unique, timeless, extremely complex and beautiful music.

Padmanpani: couldn't agree more with all of the above. i don't get koxbox or shpongle either...

murphythecat: maybe its not your type, thats all

Yard Hippie: Only have Dragon Tales but I quite like the chaotic nature of the music, it puts me in mind of a thick, bubbling psychedelic mass and I find the whole thing very entrancing. Personally I quite enjoy stepping away from the general goa patterns you describe which can sometimes feel a little tedious to me(only a little).

sektor101: I can totally understand and respect that your ears simply don't enjoy the Koxbox sound, it's perfectly normal, else tastes wouldn't exist.

That’s where I have object as taste is personal and there’s not taste better than others.

Ah, OK. So presumably, you would object to someone who wrote, say

but now I realize this whole post must be a joke or you just stupid, because you have a blatantly wrong conception of atmospheric.

right?

I did see where he went over the line. But as usual you guys pushed him. Just admit it. You love to push people to stir up some action in this semi-dead forum ;)

If I did, that would make me a troll. Are you accusing me of being a troll? Seems a bit elitist to me.

...and there you have it :)

Thanks for the explanation.

People like you are rare and will often be misunderstood because others don't usually take time to understand where you're coming from and will prefer to focus on the issue/debate at hand.

Of course, the same can be said for you and the tendency to stand up or defend before you do the thorough homework.

Either way you slice it, you are bound to have conflicts and the path you chose is not an easy one.

I wish you good luck and hope you don't end up alone in life.

On Topic: I enjoy Koxbox in small doses. There are a ton of groups I'm more likely to listen to though.

Off Topic: Elysium you made great music, but I feel like we're being preached at here. Fact: injustice will always exist. Fact: in the past what you call injustice was called justice, and what you call justice, injustice. Equality is the real injustice in my opinion which is shared by many successful people, and people who go around trying to convince everyone otherwise usually belong to churches or women's rights groups. A much better use of your time is to position yourself smartly in reality so you have the upper hand and nothing to complain about, because we all know that complaining gets one nowhere. Nor does donating money to poor children in lebanon (unless perhaps it's just a dangerous business/publicity move).

There have always been people who decide to join these forums and who most probably are not quite fully paid-up members of the human race. Some might say it is inevitable that they should occasionally stray into these forums - and I do agree.

The vast majority of the time I do my best to ignore them. And it is easy to do so. There are other (rare) times that one is moved to be less civil with them. This Sneila reincarnation is a perfect example of the latter.

Incidentally, in my view Radi or Cinos were both little better - perhaps less insistingly fatuous than Sneila and his variations, but nevertheless still impossibly puerile and bothersome.

PS I would also imagine that since young kids have access to internet, that some of the people on this board could well be people to whom puberty is still a long awaited promise. Not suggesting that any of the aforementioned clowns are nine year olds, but I am sure that we get our fair share of young ones. The fact that we do not notice them is perhaps because they probably behave better than some of their older (and putative more mature) forum members.

Edit: Jesus, that thread's up to page 18 already. Man are those fools duped by him!

He even signed up and replied to his own posts as if they are two people.

It's so pathetic it's actually amusing. I couldn't stop laughing my ass off ....very good entertainment :)

What's more entertaining are all the diehard fans (included in this forum) who seem to take a personal grudge against people who do not share their at times fanatic fascination of Posford's music or the man himself. Not that it's not good music. But at times I feel like saying "Get a life" :)

It's also great fun to see how hard these diehard fans will go to extra lengths to research who's who in the debates and what they eat and when they fart :)

On another note. I thought this topic was about KoxBox's music?
