Jokque Posted June 30, 2008 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Heya I am in UK these days, and i feel i have walked around in enough generic malls now, and think i will spend the time in london (3 days in liverpool so far) on more specialised stores, niche stores, museums etc Does anyone know any good stores for this music in london ? I reckon the big brands such as zavvi and virgin carries mostly commercial stuff (though i did find some cheap IM albums in zavvi ! also picked up prodigys experience for 3£ ! though that one was one of the expensive ebay CDs) I have no idea where we are living in london atm, we go there tomorrow, so any location in the central london area is fine Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Sisterray shop on 34-35 Berwick street in Soho does carry some psy-trance (plus lots of other good electronic music as well). Worth a visit. And if you are in the area, please go visit the great Sounds of the Universe store (AKA Soul Jazz records or Universal Sounds) on 7 Broadrick St - just around the corner from Berwick St. Now that is a great little store with always good stuff in the listening booths. Nemo you hit the mark psydmt was killer for the atmosphere but cmon it sold cds from 10 to 20 pounds.. it was outrageous.. sure it had the cream of the crop of all the stuff but for high high prices.. i remember seeing overpriced cds all the way all around.. was just cool to check around and such and get loads of flyer but it really was expensive already in year 2000.. that is my experience at least.. even chaos unlimited was cheaper and was from the uk! see if ambient soho still exist in soho, and well the used bargain corners of loads of shops should still be there.. but u have to hunt a lot ciao! Hadn't time to hunt second hand/smaller/back-street stores, so I just toured shops like Virgin & Tower Records and the like. I remember they had a good selection of Psy-trance - but @ around £15 a CD! That is almost double psyshop's and other online stores! But of course, London is London. I don't know what is the origin of the huge markup on CDs over here, so I have no idea whether shops based in the UK can be blamed for their high prices, but if it's something like VAT then it's not really their faults. I bought for my cousin Radiohead album for 22€!!! And I don't even talk about the whole stocks of CDs sold for 25€ in the big shops... It was a true relief when I saw the prices on the net. I am sorry, but I have good contacts to labels, and none of them say to me that their sales have been going down because of piracy. If you have any other facts, then please present them, otherwise, just stfu (And sorry for the language, but I am so fucking tired of hearing stuff from people that do not have one single proof or fact around this issue). And as for underpriced. If you order from any online shop, WITH the shipping you pay the same as in the shop in most cases. Now, that for me, comes down to one thing; People are too damn fucking lazy or apathetic to go down to the store and get the cd. For ME what it comes down to at the end of the day, is the people buying cds, nothing else, cause its fucking convenient! I would LOVE to have a store to go down to, to pay the same, or even 30 cents more for a cd than ordering online, but people have chosen that the internet is the way to go, and I do not have a choice anymore! Internet is usually cheaper than in stores - particularly if you buy more than one CD at a time. On the question of prices in London - £15 is high, and you can find cheaper. Prices have noticeably fallen with the advent of the internet. And at the Sisterray store that I mentioned in Soho, you can get brand new Psy-trance CDs mostly at a price of £10. It is the only store in London which I know that carries a decent selection of new psy-trance titles (although their selection is rapidly shrinking). (london is bigger than NY i believe?) Oh well ill stick to internet then Can anyone reccomend a big virgin (or are they called zavvi now, or is zavvi a different brand?) or similar store then ? (BIG) And please include adresses or even google map links, i have never been in london and have never really read anything about it or been that interested, so i dont know any names (well short of picadilly circus, covent garden, buckingham palace, big ben ) I live in the docklands, in some lousy and expensive hotel (at least theres wireless inet in the lobby!) We took a taxi from docklands to covent garden today, then ate and walked down to the eye, then took the speed-ferry back to docklands, and i didnt see 1 single interesting store. Thats about 16-18 euros each, it may be pricy, but it doesnt stop me or a shitload of other people from buying cds constantly. Also pretty good selection.
