Cheesy?

Never thought I'd hear his tunes being described like that.

Can you be more specific?

on like half of the tracks i like the 2nd half of the song  but fuckin love it when it builds up  :posford: :posford: :posford:

so, i should say, i didn't mean cheesy, but when i listen to music i want to sit back on my chair, close my eyes, and go to a journey until the last song...this album is really trippy but every now and then it makes me to open my eyes !!!!! (sorry it's a bit hard to express my feelings in a language other than my native)

after 2 more listens: 8/10

Well, not a full review.

The album starts in a style very similar to the previous album (Artifakts II, a masterpiece). #1 LCD is an amazing intro. I kind of wish he'd made a full 7-9 minute track based on the LCD melody. #2 Bulk could easily have come from Artifakts II, with a style similar to Plastics... amazing. #3 Crystal is weird, yet great. Sounds a bit like.. Artifakt meets Ka-Sol's lighter side? :)

#4 Psylocibin might be the best track on this album, once you get used to the incredibly strange vocal samples! By ca na mem ba? or something? An incredible bass line envelopes this entire track. It's a bit drum'n'base at times.. and the melodic part is just touching.

#5 Macbeth is a concept piece, but done just wonderfully.. once again, I can't help but wondering what a full track would've sounded like.

#6 is very foresty.. kind of reminds me of Principle of Flights' style. And then there's the piano piece...

#7 didn't leave any impression on me. Kinda boring...?

#8 Gather has a great dance-floor ripping end.

#9 The Probe is Artifakt meets Goa. Check out the part starting at 06:56. Cool track.

But, how about track #10 - No Present? It is so utterly uber-melodic, it did strike me as a bit cheesy at first. You have the build-up at 03:48, which is good, but frankly is very very much reminiscent of Infected Mushroom. Yes! Check out Bombat or Meduzze from IM The Supervisor and tell me you don't see the similarity. Especially when the guitar starts at 05:08.

Also, #11 The Pole, which grew on me... but at first, sounded so "generic full-on" it kind of hurt to know that Artifakt made it. There are some good parts at it, but even these sound a bit unoriginal - there's a part at 03:13 that seemed like a part out of OOOD's The Humming (at 05:00). The track does end wonderfully, though, with a beautiful melodic part...

Uhm, well, a minimal review - I guess.

This album is great, but not a masterpiece like Artifakts II. I've listened to it tens of times, and I will listen to it tens of times more. Some of the tracks here are among the best Artifakt has ever made (especially #4).

Too bad I have to wait another 2-3 years for another one of his albums :)

i have not actually ! i'm more into downtempo music but after all these reviews here i had to give this a try...and i'm soooooooo happy i did :posford: (that was my first motivation to join this forum, i spend most of my time listening to ambient music so when i want to listen to some uptempo stuff i want them to be perfect, and this is a perfect forum to know about all these amazing stuff)

i can compare yahel, infected, ... with pop trances like tiesto !!!! so if that's your definition of cheesy then you got me all wrong :)

Yeah for sure.

But it's old infected-style melodies thankfully, and they kick ass.

Did you guys notice how many claps he has instead of snares hehe

That could maybe be considered a bit cheesy but its all about how you use it.

It works really well for the most part (esp. the magus)

Only tunes I don't like much are the last two and thats cuz theyre very dancefloor orientated and not as interesting as the rest

Awesome album overall though

Different strokes :drama:

I like them by themselves I just think it doesn't really fit well with the rest of the album, kinda like it branches off into something else.

Woulda been better suited on compilations i reckon

Im only partway through my second listen but this one sounds really good. Psilocybin really stands out as a gem. I wont be able to decide if I like this one as much as his last for weeks or months, as although I liked Artifakts II on first listen it took a while to realize how amazing it really was. Whether or not it does, it seems to be a very good album.

AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

A NEW ARTIFAKT ALBUMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh13%!!%!$!###!!#!%#$^$#^$^

What more can be fucking said?

Haven't heard it, but I'm sure I'll love it - just like I loved everything he did since Artifakts II (such as Baal, Broken and Reborn in different compilation).

Artifakt is quite simply the best South African (or should I say South Afrikan?) trance artist out there.

Amazing, amazing.

I'll review as soon as I hear it.

It would be South African

After having this CD for a few months I still cant decide if I like this or Artifakts II better. They are both really amazing cds. Artifakt really "tells a story" with his albums, they way the build and evolve through the tracks is genius, each song getting more and more massive and beautiful, and each one executed with the hand of master. This album, in particular "The Pole" has actually moved me to tears. The last track to do that for me was the final track on "Artifakts II".

It isnt really fair to pick favorite tracks from this album because they are all part of a whole, but in particular "The Magus", the end (after the sample in spanish) of "Viagra Bastard Spawn", "The probe" and the massive, haunting, uplifting melody of "the Pole" really stand out. The introductory tracks are really cool too, and they do a great job of whetting the appetite for the massive sounds to come while still being excellent tracks on their own.

I would not be at alll surprised if Artifakt is remembered 100 years from now.

In that line of thought we must think.. Why the hell "Artifakt" and not "Artifact"? Why the K??? Did he messed up too? <_<

Stop being picky. :drama:

Hmmm, well Artifakt would be fully within his own right to use a k for his name....But lets start spelling Beljium or Gapan or Untied States of America......

Bump, I've been listening to this a bunch lately.

I like it better than Artifakts II, which was a solid album in its own right.

Favorties so far:

No Present

The Magus

The Probe

Viagra Bastard Spawn

But really, I like all the tracks. I feel this album is more coherent and digestable and listenable (to me) than his previous release.

Good stuff!

Gotta love this album.

Artifakt does what few should do, he is consistent.

This album stands alone from his debut record and II.

And it is so strong from track to track, it doesn't waiver. It doesn't outstay its welcome. It is uncompromising music.

I just don't know where he can go to from here.

But I certainly can't wait.

Maybe he's first language has something to do with it? In Denmark, "Contact" is spelled "kontakt" and so on.... :)
