It always seemed like he was getting more and more disgusted with the genre but it would be nice if he had kept the archives and podcasts up even if there weren't new reviews. I always enjoyed reading them (even the negative ones) and often LOL'd in the process. And it was the only place ive ever seen a psytrance track referred to as 'homeric' which is an achievement in itself.

Yeah, theres a thread in the off topic...

imho thats just hypocritical...he had loads of raving reviews in the past...

Younger Brother, Vishnudata, Scorb, Astroschnautzer, Vanguard....and many more. Now he says the music sucks...

If he wants to move on, no problem, but please don't play the Drama Queen.

true, and when he did like an album the review would be totally hyperbolic and gushing.

What was the worst was that his enthusiasm was infectious & no matter how many times I got burned buying shite he raved about, I still got excited by his enthusiasm. I'm not that sad that psyreviews has gone. I'll miss his reviews of crap but his taste was too different from mine to bother taking seriously.

That's what I thought, last year there were loads of albums that were great according to him and now everything sucks? Allow me to

Yep! That & most of his negative reviews were awesome! He should stick to reviewing crap.

I knew I'd lost interest when he posted that he was not going to review any more crap. I thought, "then what is the point of your site?"

Sad but true. Someone needs to take over from him to review the crapola out there ;)

Why not be positive and tell yourself: "OK with Psytrance downfall, Progressive artists have already moved to House music. Too bad. Also, Eskimo, Skazi and all the fullon bodybuilders and dark pornstars are gonna move to more lucrative businesses...and hopefully leave the movement -the ruins of it, but still- to the original psychedelic melodic lovers". I'd love that idea.

But I'm not sure it will happen that way.

I watched some Japanese festival DVD from 2006 the other day, with Void, Dali, Melicia's sister, Skazi, Eskimo, etc, singing and pretending to play. It was so sad, I thought, this was not the movement I used to know, it had become an overrated corner of dance-pop music. I suddenly had the feeling Psytrance had been squeezed to the bone during 5 years, to the extent thousands of japanese would believe that this buffoonery of a festival was actually about Psytrance.

And in retrospect of the year 2007 with all the dark music that was released, I had the feeling that the fullon dobybuilders had indeed (!) at last (!) definitely left the scene...but left it to a horde or dark dorks, disfiguring Psytrance even harder. I'm serious here, having received all kinds of promos for years, the Dark stuff has been here for long time, but everyone would consider it like the toxic residue of Psytrance, the sum of all artists that didn't even know how to make proper full on, and now the remainder of the division of the movement.

I'm not even talking about the drug abuse I've seen in the last parties I've been. From a LSD generation, to a XTC generation to a Speed generation, I sympathize with nowadays DJs that make colorless kids on cheap drugs, dance on cheap music. I'm not even talking about the number of fucked up festivals there were last year. How serious is that ?

Dull, sticky and dirty. That's how Psytrance is now.

I guess my point of view is close to Psyreviews and PsyDB owners'. Like me they wonder "what can possibly come after the dark wave ?". The next step is Trancecore but it died a long time ago already ! If the dark wave dies (and there's already a lot less releases than last year), the audience will not know where to look at, they will be too young to know Goatrance and will think it's more their parents' music, outdated and by definitition not interesting. And there's nothing left.

Now if you guys want Psytrance to live, you better stand up and fight. You have maximum 2 years to change the movement's face. Make websites, make original great music, give a cleaner view of the movement. Stand up for it ! Or it will be too late.

Jesus was criticised for daring to speak the truth too. Good on him I say, it's tough accepting and admitting a genre you once loved and cared for has degenerated into repetitve, unintelligent nonsense.

I'm actually fairly optimistic, happy even that this low quality music is dieing out, we can only listen to this same bassline for so long afterall. I think we'll finally see a rift in the scene. It can't possibly go on longer, the israeli scene and those who copy it will follow skazi and infected mushroom and dali and the others doing their nu rap metal europop, and maybe finally we can get some good and inspired music again not this horrible flood of low quality and average music that all sounds the same. The styles will split and us psychedelic crowd will rebound into the next sound that appeals to our palette.

I think we'll see a new age of diversity and inspiration, with more varied styles being played and more expiramentation on less commercial sounds. so long as all the DJs don't burn out...but then maybe they should, maybe its time for a fresh generation to decide what is good music since alot of the djs and producers really have been failing at that.

I also think the Vb-1 bassline synth should be boycotted from psytrance, how about we go back to the days of having to actually program your own bassline on a track to track basis - a world of possibility explodes from there. I really think the VB-1 "full-on" bassline has killed psychedelic music. This thing literally makes one sound and its been overused 10 times more than even I thought it could go on for.

I'm going to be really happy when its gone! Prog is doing it right, and currently some of the best music is in the prog scene right now. It is good but it is not the reason we party... :)

I'm very optimistic about the future, maybe in part because I have the ability to make my own tracks if I get fed up with whats out there. Actually this was the very reason I started producing. I had finally made it around to my first party only to discover that the original sound that got me into the music (goa) was completely missing. Thats fucked up, someone has to do something about it I thought.

So why don't we? :) What are we waiting on?

I agree with Synogen. I'm optimistic too.

Remember the good old days when the music was not popular & there were just a handful of releases & they were all good to great? With the Fullon crowd & the shitty dark crowd fucking off into something else it leaves the quality PSYCHEDELIC scene to rise from the old scenes ashes.

It will never die it will just change. Skazi & the like are no longer psy but they use the moniker. The music will survive but it wont be called psytrance.

Hopefully

Yeah Mars well said...... however there is the occasional bright star shining through. That Braincell cd (transfrmation of reality) cd was hands down the best cd of 2007. That is what Logic Bomb should be sounding like. Well produced, melodic in the good way and every track a killer. His construction is also killer.

Man, noo, please don't start ranting and rambling again, that issue has a beard already.

You are worse than Austrians. And this means something if it comes from an Austrian, oh boy! Don't get me wrong, I actually LOVE to be negative, I'm a bit of a doomsday prophet, so that's my duty! I mean, I'd actually enjoy it, to bathe in the waves of wonderful rants and sentimental thoughts, wonderful ... but damn it, it really slowly gets old. Some of you guys sound like if you lived in the local old people's home already...

Recently I saw an underground TV show with a special feature about Goa and Psy. And you know, it was a wonderful show. Not because of what they presented, I knew all of this already, of course, but because there was no negativity! And no fullon! No negativity AND no fullon, have to say this again, because in the last times I had the impression this was impossible!

Really, there was not this "it was all better in the past"-melancholic rant atmosphere that is so present at many places nowadays. Maybe it was a little idealistic and naive (the "hippie" way, you know ... a bit), but gosh, I now realize I prefer the much arsed hippy style to the rant style for thousand percent! Damnit...

But I'm so happy that there are also some optimists here...

Thats fucked up, someone has to do something about it I thought.

So why don't we? :) What are we waiting on?

Yess! Listen to this man!

How if we actually really do something about it?

This site is called psyNEWS, so let's do something! Form a collective maybe? "PsyNEWS collective - finally bringing NEWS to psy music!" NEW Music! NEW input! How about that? It's thousand times better than just ranting and doing nothing. If this doesn't work then you at least have a REASON to rant!

So how about it, hmmm? I'd be up to join, but I can't make music. Maybe I can learn that once I'm past that thesis...

I won't comment upon statements which resemble the ones like "Psy trance is dead!" just because it's a waste of space on my monitor, for starters...

A scene with so many labels, releases, artists, styles, parties, world wide festivals and what-not, is not only alive and kicking, but is flowering, damn it! I am not discussing quality issues when mentoning what I did in the row above, but just mere facts. There is so fucking much music coming out on a daily basis that the only risk this scene is running is getting suffocated by mass production. I find it impossible for anybody familiar with the concept of -psy trance- to banalize the whole thing here and dub everything crappy.

While there is music in general, there will be good music as well. Regardless of the genre. As long as men make music, there will be utter shit and high quality gems. Psy trance is no exception.
