Rules/guidelines for reviewing

Prio Alea

Recommended Posts

Please read and respect these rules/guidelines before posting new reviews.

HERE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT REVIEWS. NOT SIMPLE COMMENTS, NOT DISCUSSIONS, BUT REVIEWS !

1. Please use the appropriate release year before posting . If you're posting in a "multiple year" thread (ie. 2002 - 1998) then specify the release year in the thread title.

2. If you’re an artist / label that wants to promote a new release please use the “Promos” group and not this one! ANY promos found in the reviews section will be moved.

3. This section is for psytrance reviews and psytrance related genres reviews only! If you want to discuss the best releases this year, what albums should be considered “classics”, the reviews section layout, the quality of reviews, the latest Tool release, want to request a review, etc. etc., then please use the General or Off-Topic sections of the forum!!!

This is intended for psytrance music and subgenres only so no reviews of parties or other music genres. A bigger tolerance will be allowed for old stuff (stuff released before 96) since back then there wasn't an "official definition" of psytrance.

4. BEFORE posting a new review, check if a review of the album hasn’t already been written. If it’s the case then write your review in the already existing thread and do NOT open a new one! Finding older topics should be easy, use the “Search” function: type part or the whole album title and don’t forget to limit the search to the subforum of the year you want to post in.

If you're starting a new thread for a compilation then you should ALWAYS write the title under the format : "V/A - Name of comp". So that all the compilations will be easier to find. So do NOT start a topic with "VA" (no "/" between the V and the A) or "V/A :" (":" instead of "-"), "VA Name of Comp" (no "-" between the V/A and the name) etc.

5. When opening a new thread put the name of the album and artist in the topic title and make sure it doesn’t have any typos (or else the search function won’t work). If you made a mistake, you can easily re-edit the title by using the “Edit” button at the end of your post, if that function is not working, then report your topic to moderators asking to correct the typos.

6. Please say WHY you like/dislike an album and don’t write childish one-phrase reviews like “This is a killer release!! 10/10!” or “This sucks. 0/10”. Reviews like that are not very informative and don’t do much except annoy others who are looking for full reviews … Also, if you have received an album as a promo directly from the artist/label try not to be an ass-licker in the review… most of the time it shows and it’s VERY annoying not to mention that in the long run your credibility as an objective reviewer will be tarnished.

7. Personal grudges against artists or reviewers are not welcomed and will be deleted and might lead to moderation so try to use your brain before posting. If you have anything to say to the artist or another reviewer you can always PM (Private Message) or e-mail them.

8. It would be nice that whenever someone opens a new thread for a review they start with the full album stats (pic of the cover, track names, label, release date, etc.).

9. We advise and ask you not to write reviews for samples of releases. It's best if you post in the Reviews section after having listened to the whole release.

Happy reviewing smile.gif

and as always, suggestions are welcome (as long as you post them in this thread and don't open a new one)

Finally someone said it.

I have no problem to read some trance reviews from 1993, but I definitely disagree with reviews about house or techno albums here.

What is the official definition of psytrance & it's related genres? Anything you can get from saiko sounds? Anything we consider psychedelic? Just want to clarify :)

And What about albums which doesn't require a proper review - where two sentences are sufficient - like: it's not a bad shit, but quite boring after second listen, average progress - 7/10. And what's wrong with the discussion of the impact of the albums on people's mind?

Because it's a review section and not a discussion section I think :)

Finally someone that openly admits the open mindness of the PLUR Society :)

I think Nemo disagrees with the rule too and his comment was sarcastic, wasn't it?

No I really disagree with the rule as well. I would LOVE to see more reviews of stuff like Trentemoller, Rob Acid etc etc, cause some of that stuff is more psychedelic than a lot of those pseudo trance progg releases out there. What was the latest album that you got that you honestly can say that it would be classified as PsyTrance? (not trance, not progressive)

A lot of this Progressive, Pseudo Electro (which does not mean that its bad) has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Psytrance, but would still be classed as Psy... The rule WOULD MEAN that Beckers should not be reviewed for instance... Diversity, open mind.... thats what I am talking about here.

Totally Agree with you... But why not create a new section for it then? In tthat way everybody can be happy :)

The last time I checked this site was still called Psynews and not Dancenews or Electronicmusicnews.

Anything can be Psychedelic? That's true!

So, there's no problem to write the review for the new Madonna album if it's psychedelic to me, right?

And that's not sarcasm! Sorry but this site started for a place to talk about Psytrance!

Psytrance can be Goa,Full On,Prog,Dark,Suomi,Ambient and everything else but it's still Psy in a way or another. Skazi or Antix are not really Psychedelic but they belong for some reasons in the whole Psy scene.

Like Mars said I haven't any problem at all to discuss about any music kind in the general section, but if I want to read House reviews I still have Discogs.

Otherwise change the title of this site to Musicnews. ;)

I understand what you mean man but if we open the pandora's box, then this site is dead.

We'll start with some crazy techno stuff, then some other will add some future shock reviews, then some idm, some crazy electro pop, some weirdo jazz, some black metal with synths, and blah blah we'll end in a site with reviews about anything!!! You really want that? If yes then honestly let's change the site's title.

A sidetopic/section wouldn't harm the page.. But i see the point

sorry, but if there can be a review of music like Penta, then I see no problem with having a review of Martinez, which is far more psychedelic, groovy and trancey, than Penta will ever be. (just to mention one act that no longer has ANYTHING to do with PsyTrance).

Penta isn't psytrance??? What would you call it then?

So you agree with me that If I want to write a review about Prodigy, Outkast, Avril Lavigne, ATB or Cannibal Corpse I can, as long I believe that all this artists are psychedelic.

Ormion, you are not stupid, I know that, but now you are talking plain fucking stupid crap. So cut the crap, and get on with what the topic is about. Electronic music. A lot of so called psy trance is not even psychedelic anymore, and in my opinion, Ticon, Son Kite and BBE for instance are not even PsyTrance.... Its good progressive trance yeah, but thats about it.

So, Goa evolved into Psy evolved into Full on, evolved into progressive evolved into Minimal and so on. NO?! So Midimiliz should not be reviewd here? Or Extrawelt for that matter, thats not psytrance... and X-Dream, what should we do about them? They are not PSY at all if you ask me. And listen to the new KoxBox or new OOOD, what do you clasify that music as? Crossover techno Trance psy?!

Get real!

e. if you left the forum to true psychedelic acts reviewing only, this forum is pretty much dead.

Nemo, I do agree with you, but try to understand Ormion's point before thinking he's just yapping nonsense :)

If this forum was left exclusively to true psychedelic acts reviewing only, this forum is pretty much dead. May be so. Likewise, if you let various other acts/subgenres/albums sneak in, you risk the same end. Why? Because by suddenly broadening the field of acceptability of what is considered psychedelic music, this forum WILL lose whtever it was originally about. It will lose some of its core "fan base" and elder users, simply because they won't find any relevance in what will start flooding the review section.

Whether that is good or bad is not up to me. But it will happen. On a personal level, I wouldn't mind. Thus far, you may or have not noticed that I enjoy all aspects of electronic music, except dub or that atrocious sexy-house thingy.

Look man, you just talk about open mindess. Sorry but this thing does not exist in music!

If it was really existed then we wouldn't have genres or sub-genres. Because every music would be everything genre.

What's the line between rock and metal?

Between rock and punk?

Between idm ambient and abstract?

Between ska and reggae?

Between techno and trance?

Between anything?

There are no lines! So yes everything is psychedelic! You just gave the perfect example: For you Penta is not psytrance at all, while other guys can't think anything more psychedelic that Penta.

We can't make a site about Psytrance with this kind of logic, man!

You just talked about Electronic music. What's that?

Depeche Mode ain't electronic?

A-Ha or OMD ain't psycgedelic in a way?

We're gonna end up in site with reviews about anything! We have to draw some lines. Don't ask me who's gonna draw them, but we have to otherwise we'll end up in a Musicnews.com site.

BTW Goa evolved in Psytrance, but Psytrance didn't evolve into something. Psytrance is a music genre that contains many, many subgenres simple as that.

wow, what an exxageration... so I demand that the latest X-Dream, Trentemoller and MidiMiliz reviews to be removed!

99% of the reviewed music on this forum is really cool, good music, that I think has widened the taste of a lot of members.... and is that not what the Psytrance community is all about, to widen the horizons of thinkers alike? :)

If we make a rule to diss stuff like Trentemoller, Martinez and so on, I think that people like Otto and Symphoid should not be allowed to post their music in the promotional section either, cause it aint got nothing to do with psy IMO. (Eventhough its good music, dont get me wrong Otto!) :)
