Ektoplazm Free Music Updates

Basilisk

Recommended Posts

Hello Psynews readers :) I run a web site promoting free psytrance releases from around the world. As I have done on some other forums, I will try to keep this single thread updated with new stuff that comes out, as some of these fine releases are not consistently posted here. For the latest, be sure to check ektoplazm.com!

For the artists and netlabels reading this: not only can I promote your completed release, but I am skilled in copy writing (promo and bio text), packaging, hosting, distribution, graphic design, and other activities related to releasing and promoting free releases. I can often help out on a case-by-case basis with these sorts of things (subject, of course, to my interest and time available). Additionally, as Ektoplazm has become quite a successful platform for promoting free music, I am also about to kick off an in-house netlabel! Independent artists are welcome to contact me privately about that :) of course, I will continue to promote releases from other netlabels and independent artists as I have been doing for well over a year now...

Anyhow, here are the last bunch of free releases posted to Ektoplazm, with links. This thread will be updated periodically :posford:

Enjoy the free music! Show your support when you hear something you like and provide some appreciative feedback to the creators... it can mean a lot to all the people involved in bringing you this music for free!

Peace.

Good question. Yes, I filter what ends up posted and promoted on the site. It is an evolving process; since 2005, the basic quality standards a release must meet has gone up, mirroring the increase in free releases being made. People seem to enjoy what they hear, though. I receive a great deal of positive feedback on a regular basis.

Some difficulties arise from the scope of the music being promoted; everything from techtrance, downtempo, darkpsy, old school Goa, melodic full-on, and experimental Suomi-style ends up on the site. From examining the ratings received for various releases, I can tell that someone really enjoy the Cosmo Circle release (melodic full-on with some old school flavour) but disliked my Replicant Redux mix (techtrance). On the other hand, someone rated the Alic EP a 5, whereas they didn't think much of the Lost In The Forests project (darkpsy). However, the average site-wide rating is 4.29 out of 5, with hundreds of ratings recorded. This is telling me that many people appreciate what I post and promote!

When I find a free release (or when someone sends me a promo, link, or other details), I am generally looking for a few basic things: is it psytrance or downtempo or otherwise interesting to a psytrance-listening audience? Did they care enough to provide a cover? Is the production quality reasonable? Is the release made in a high-quality format (WAV preferred, 320k MP3 accepted, 256k and lower = much less of a chance)? Then I start to subjectively consider whether the music is any good--which involves considering it by my own personal taste, but also considering what I know other people enjoy.

This approach seems to be striking the right kind of balance :)

Thanks :) I am always glad to find that my efforts are appreciated!

I've got a bunch of new stuff to update Psynews with... here we go:

http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/no-comment-volume-1/

I've also been porting a lot of the older releases to my web host... many were previously available only through BitTorrent, but if you go hunting, you may find that there are now direct links through the web. Enjoy :)

Thanks :)

Some news: the BitTorrent tracker is soon to be closed for good. In its place I offer the new download charts, available here:

http://www.ektoplazm.com/downloads/

What you see is a ranked listing of all downloads available through Ektoplazm along with comments and ratings. This is to provide a high-level overview of all the free music on the site! A month ago many of the older releases were only available through BitTorrent, as many of the original providers have not kept stable hosting for their content. To allay this problem, I am now hosting the vast majority of the free music on my own web server. Direct downloads are now available for many older releases, and the links are sure to be stable for a long time to come. Enjoy!

Nice one B)

I will download it for sure! I still remember the track Senzar & June Rashava did for the V/A Peace Therapy 2, which I simply adored, and seeing these two names again on the same compilation really intrigues me.

As soon as I grab hold of some time I'll listen to it. And I don't even like ambient, but I'm still hyped up!

The Movements EP is the debut offering from Sub Atomic, a psytrance project founded in the year 2000 by Philip Touralias of Athens, Greece. Sub Atomic was inspired by the millennial sound of Logic Bomb, Koxbox, Etnica, and Echotek—and their influence still shines through. With its smooth pulsating rhythms, dreamy melodies, and shimmering atmospheres, this release defies contemporary trends in the pursuit of providing a deep and meaningful experience of pure psychedelic trance.

Supermarket is the fourth release from the experimental psytrance netlabel Ultiva Records. After the success of their previous offering, Voice Of Sauron, Ultiva has now broadened their scope to explore the hard and mechanical sound of modern techtrance. With selections from several veteran acts including Trimada, Cujorius One, and ManMadeMan—as well as some pleasant surprises from newcomers like Phasetech and Opsy—Supermarket represents a wide cross-section of techtrance talent. Supermarket was compiled by Opsy & Lara and mastered at TesseracT Studio, Belgrade, with artwork by Kanc Cover and support from Soundmute.org.
