radi6404
Hallucinogen - E 648275 It is beatless! Man if you want sad chillout get shpongle - "Are you shpongled" album and Shpongle - "Dorset perception" track, the tracks of are you shpongle have sad melodies, for example the track vapour rumours which is my all time favourite and dorset perception is one of the saddest tracks i heard.  Check also some oforia ambient stuff out, very sad also and check old electric universe ambient works, also very melanchonic psychedelic ambient. I don´t know of other but i wanted ask this question also.

Bahamut
Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze - Dark Side of the Moog 7 - Obscured by Klaus part 6 Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze - Dark Side of the Moog 9 - Set the controls for the heart of the mother part 5 + part 6  Magnificent stuff. I think these would be perfect for the occasion.  also: Brian Eno & Harold Budd - Not Yet Remembered  Vidna Obmana - The Ominous Dwelling  Jeff Pearce - Autumn and Regret  Raison D'etre - In Emptiness
Ormion
Unstable Elements-Technical Illusions is a great melancholic ambient album. I made a review in the review section, check it out. Â Also from psymbient check out Psyfactor-Endless Universe for new stuff and Astralasia music from old stuff. Of course FSOL is a great choice especially Dead Cities. Rotwang
The last track on Autechre's Garbage EP, "Vletrmx 21" is particularly depressing.

RTP
Raison D'etre - In Emptiness 648333 Raison D'Être is pretty mystic/melancholic in general. Try his "Mesmerized In Sorrow" track aswell if you like... I also find some Carbon Based Lifeforms tracks somewhat melancholic. MOS 6581 for example... Shaft
Man, this album makes me feel fine... not sad! "A good day to die" emotions 648522 I don't know, I pick up a lot of melancholy from it. Great album anyway
DaZeD
maybe "rip van hippy" 648527 Rip Van Hippy is sad ambient? I reather think it's uplifting,...Oh well...  Try Ambient Meditations 1, 2, and 3. especially the 3rth then.Dead Can Dance - Indus for example, really can't get much sadder imho.  Also, Banco De Gaia - Big Men Cry  And Angel Tears Vol.4  And I think Soul Vibaration vol.1 has some very moody elements like in Manasseh - Ribbit Teacha or Nagual Sound Experiment - Chimera etc... (It's not really sad, just very down to earth) I love this one very much!  And offcoarse like Lauryn allready mentioned Asura - Lost Eden I think is very melancholic too. lumpi
Off the top of my head I can wholeheartedly recommend you Mago - Definition Of Raw Moments From A Different Perspective, I've said it once and I will say it again, imo this is a masterpiece. I gave it a 5 out of 5 on discogs, listened to it so many times already and didn't even slightly get bored with it. It's not ambient or chill out per se, yet it has a very sedating effect on me. Another one would be Desiderii Marginis - That Which Is Tragic And Timeless. I'll probably remember some more later...
