1) When did you start making psytrance ?

Rickard started in 1994 when he set up the Subcouds project with partner Fredrik Axelsson. Robert made his first trance tracks on his home computer around 1995 and then went on to make his first studio produced tracks in 1997.

2) Are you planning to release a new album ? In that case when will it be released ?

Well. our first full length album just came out on Spiral Trax less than a month ago so right now we are just trying to work our way back into the studio. However we have already had some discussings with Anti at Spiral trax about producing a more dubby ambient album later this year.

3) Which of your own tracks do you like the best ?

Big bugger! This is always a tricky question. For the moment though we have two favourites on the album. The train moving "Echo plantation" and the more laid back "Abra". A recently written track called Airfield also fit among these tunes.

4) Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums ?

There are quite a few these days, but you always have to give some special credits to the guys in X-dream and of course to Simon Posford. These guys have a sound that very few can match at the moment. Among the new artists we really like what the Swedish boys in Son Kite are making.

5) Where does your inspiration come from ?

Another tricky one! Well sometimes it might come from the daily life routines and sometimes you just do not know what inspired you to do a certain thing here and a certain thing there. Our belief is that as human beings we pick up frequencies almost all the time (even when you are asleep) some of these frequencies get stuck in your head one way or the other and unconsciously surface here and there when you make music. For the last two years we have been listening a lot to both new and old school dub artists which has affected the style of our music quite a lot.

6) What kind of equipment are you using when making the music?

A few years ago we used to have a large number of different synthesizers, but at the moment we are just using three synthesizers and an Akai sampler. Apart from this we use Cubase VST together with plugins, "softsynths" and some mastering programs. We also use quite a lot Instruments and sounds recorded the old fashion way like Digeridoo, tablas and flutes.

7) Haven't you thought about a Vibrasphere+Subcouds project ?

Who knows what the future holds? At the moment the Vibrasphere project takes up a lot of time and the other part of Subcouds (Fredrik Axelsson) is currently working a lot on his own "Phlat Phase" project. Perhaps a few remixes will be done in the future.

8) Future projects, new tracks ?

At the moment we are working on a couple of tracks that are going to released on Spiral trax sub label, Acid Casualties later this year. We have also started the do some planning regarding our ambient dub project.

9) Is there any artist you'd like to work with ?

You can learn a lot from collaborating with other artists. Unfortunately we live in a quite remote part of Europe, which make these kind of things a bit more difficult geographically speaking. For the time we are more than filling our schedules making Vibrasphere tracks, but we have recently talked with Dennis in Hux Flux about doing something together..so perhaps Vibrasphere goes "twisted" some time in the near future!

10) What do you think of the evolution of psytrance in the last years ?

Hmmm.looking at it as a whole unit it is quite obvious that the development of the sound during the last say two years have been rather slow. A majority of the tracks made these days sounds very much the same. However there are of course also tracks that are really changing the future of trance. The focus is now strongly concentrated on the rhythmic side of the music and will probably continue to be so for a while.

11) What do You think about the future of psytrance ?

The shift towards minimalistic techno will most probably continue, but this might also cause some sort of reaction that can take part of the scene back to where it was three to four years ago. This is the funny side of underground music, you can never control it and you can never know where it is going.

12) What was the concept when You made the album? ( I mean half of the album are dancefloorkillers and other half is very good dubby chill tunes?

Ooops! Well the thing is that before we got the deal with Spiral trax we had made some demo recordings of a couple of dub/ambient tracks. Then when we sat down and started to plan the work for the album we realized that it is pretty boring to make 70 minutes with only hard kicking dancefloor tracks. This is why we in the first place decided to record two of these tracks for the album. In the end we recorded one more, but this one was the outro "Eternal feedback". As for a concept for the whole album the use of echo´s early sprang to our minds as a main characteristic for the Vibrasphere music. The artwork on the album cover is suppose to visualise an echo.

13) How would you describe psychedelic trance music in a few words?

Pulsating waves of fequencies that hit you in all the right places!

14) How much time do You spend in Your studio ( Cloud 99 ) and does it give something special mentally?? Is all of your work born here??

For the last 8 months we have been doing music pretty much on a full time basis so we are there almost every day. Somedays we stay for 12 hours and some for less. It is quite a good place even if it is located in a basement. Yes we do all our work in this studio.

15) Thanks alot from the psy-community and give us more amazing tunes, both dancefloorkillers and dubby as soon as possible!

We´ll try, thanks and keep up the vibe! /Rickard & Robert
