"OH NO! ANOTHER RAJA RAM-RELEASE! RUN FOR YER LIVES!"

Bollocks

As usual, good news... Always nice with a TIP-compilation. Another divine manifestation of the groovology-policy  . I´m getting one.

"We feel Tip is on firing form this year. After 2 very cool and contemporary albums in Hujaboy and Lucas's "God Save The Machine", a big gun is wheeled out! Raja Ram's new project, "Evolution of Expanded Consciousness". This is a sneak preview of sales notes as Raja Ram will soon write his blurb for the album. There is a whole concept behind this new project that will be best explained by the man himself. An update to follow in the next week!! For now all you need to know is this has been Raja Ram's passion this year. And it has given us an exciting new idea for next year too. Raja Ram pooled together 6 of his favourite artists to write specific pieces for his new concept. It is all about 20,000 years of tribes using various psychedelics towards a higher consciousness. He wanted 6 epic pieces from the masters of the genre that could push further than most and come up with some high quality, original pieces that told a story. The result is magnificent and has a combination of sublime listening experiences but also some intense dancefloor elements. There are only so many people with the skills and maturity that can write such pieces and those picked did a very good job. 6 Highlights. But only 6 pieces...tracklists at the end!"

well, the Headlines EP has only six tracks and I never saw anyone complaining :)

but in this case, with artists like Hujaboy, GMS & Bulletroof I doubt they can create 10-12 minutes long pieces... I'm inclined to think like DP does - it's going to be six six-minute tracks...

A lot of my favourite albums have few tracks on them. Mystery of the yeti 1 & 2 only had 4. Both of them were great. Both Crystal skulls had only 7 tracks, also great. I Think I prefer TIP (and in general) when they have less (but hopefully longer) tracks.

It was supposed to be an EP, not an album

if I'd like to be picky, I'd say this TIP's CD is not an album either - it's a compilation :P;):D

and Family of Light

and Planet Ben - Future Trippy Garden (just 6)

and Deviant Species - Hatch

and Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?

and Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa (10 tracks on 2 CDs)

and Liquid Dub vol 7

and and and.....

a lot of my favourites have fewer tracks. Perfect for me is 8 tracks or less. When and album has 12 or more you know a lot of them will be too short. If you can't make a track last 8 minutes or more then it's often because it's not good enough. IMO

Whether album or compilations it's still "supposed" to contain 50-70mins of music...

well an EP could just have 2 tracks..

It's pretty decent release isn't it? With their 2 latest releases TIP has shown that there's still pie into it :)

I got this a while ago and I think that it's pretty fucking good!!

Okay! It's not as good as the crystal skulls but it is a hundred times better than god save the machine. If TIP are trying to move in the right direction then this album is a catapult. It is absolutly brilliant.

A few samples that could be done away with and that is my only gripe.

Much Better Than God Save The Machine
