Review:

It's the first time I bought a release from Dakini Records and I must say it

was a véry positive experience!! It's a very tribal and new-age sounding

album! You mostly have some Tribal drums to give a good rhytm and singing

girls in all kind of languages... The first song sounds even too new-age imo.

The second song is the best heren, (with 6). If you like Indian-music you'll

like this... It's with a sitar and some kinda guitar and of course that magic

female voice!! :o)) The 3d is véry chilled with almost no drums and once again

with sitar & also with fluit... The 4th song is more normal Psy-Ambient, here

you can feel it's made with a computer, you have some trancy back-ground

melodies filled with singing people and once again those tribal drums... Nr 5

has the same recipe as nr 3&4 but it's longer and also a piano is used! 6 is

also one my favourits here... véry long song that reminds me of the old

RTTS-music... Background 303's, tribal drums, voices and a fast part !

in the middle of the song!! The last song is, as the name suggest, véry calm

with no drums... in fact it's more an atmosphere as a song!! All together a

very nice ambient-release that is still lively enough to stay awake! :o))

7,5/10 (because all the songs have the same style) Bom Shankar

héhé, I already changed my mind... When i was listening to this during the

heatwave, sitting in the sun & playing chess I realised this is one hell of an

album that is AS good as Toires & Asura (which are my favourite Ambient

albums)!! So 9,5/10 & NOT 7,5/10!!

This is a nice one. It's just like Anoebis said. The first track is my

favourite so far, its solid cuteness-free tribal drums at about 128 BPM for

several minutes mean that one can use it for a segue from lots and lots of

styles of music. The other stuff I listened to in a very long shower. Yum!

This is probably too cheesy to listen to more than once in a row, but first

thing in the morning it's nice. 8/10.

This album is fantastic. I havn't heard any of Makyo's other productions, but

I really need to now. My favorites 1,2,5 and 6. 6 is especially touching and

impactful. I had to lay down and close my eyes to fully appreciate that one.

Overall there is nothing more to be desired if you are a fan of the

ethnospiritual downtempo trance genre. Very psychedelic imo, and amazingly

crafted. If your one of those people who thinks trance should revert to the

early days you should check out this kind of music. While not full on or

pounding, its effects are often very comparable and are definately as

spiritually charged. 9/10

This album is amongst the best stuff Makyo has produced (though his Padmasana

album still hold the trophy for me). I have only heard this on mp3 so far

(very rare for me as I don't listen to mp3 much) but I shall be purchasing as

soon as someone in England supplies it.

Conno - you say you haven't heard of anything else by Makyo - but I have

reviewed two albums on this site already ! (Vismaya and NadaMasala).... Dakini

is a very special label and always worth checking out for chillout material.

I find this to be the best release of makyos so far. Excellent world music for

chilling out in the sun. The second track off this cd is actually a remix of a

Transglobal Underground track with Natacha Atlas and is one of my favorites.

Overall a very solid release worth checking out.

This is truely beautiful. As mentioned above very tribal with a wonderful

combination of drum beats and voices. Track 6 is less beat orientated and more

trancy. This track reminded me a lot of Shpongle's "...and day turned to

night" though with Makyo's distinctive style. 20 minutes of the best sonic

manipulation and relaxing melodies...amazing. This track is the standout for

me although the whole CD is wonderful journey and enjoyable at any time of the

day....highly recommended if you want something unique and different

I have everything that Makyo (Gio Fazio & friends) has released.

I also attend the amazing Dakini Nights in Tokyo, which have been the greatest

nights of live music for me since I saw The Grateful Dead in the early 1970s.

It is no exaggeration whatsoever to say that Yakshini is a masterpiece of

neopsychedelic world music. Listening to Makyo has opened up a new world of

music for me. I'm heavily into Afro-Celt Sound System, Shpongle, Banco de

Gaia, Leftfield, Thievery Corp., Kruder & Dorfmeister as well, but Makyo's on

top of the heap. This music is like good hash, good champagne, my Japanese

wife, Thai food -- something I would not like to imagine living without. I

hope that Makyo will continue to put out such heavenly music for a long time

to come. Gio is also an excellent music critic (writes for the Japan Times).

Now that I've had this album for a while, I feel I can finally stamp my

official 9.5 on this album - VERY well-produced, VERY subtle electronic sounds

ticka-ticka-ticking in between eastern-sounding beats. Generally an excellent

chill-out album.
