Well this album was 'Goa'. The so called 'Goa' sound only really came to

prominence in 94/95. This album came out in 93 at about the same time as Eat

Static's Abduction album.

I was really fan of Beyond The Infinite, but Transmissions is not really goatrance.

I have to admit now that Transmissions is really disapointing because of its

unexisting melodies.

This does not sound like the everyday trance-album. It was released back in

1993 and that's why it sounds so different to

new stuff. But I like it, it's got nice laid-back melodies and it's pretty

soft and joyful. Many tracks has unusual sounds

like the flute, guitar and the horn (?) in '10000 miles'. This sounds a

little celtic to me, and it actually works! The

album never gets boring except maybe for the last track that's not very

good. Wayyyy to soft for my taste this ambient

stuff. It's a nice album altogether though with its highlights on tracks

1,6,7 and 8.

Less good than Beyond The Infinite and Bible Of Dreams, but I like it. It

sounds like Beyond The Infinite (you can recognize in The Heavens one of the

samples used in Samurai), but is not as mature. I love High Energy Protons,

10000 miles is also quite good, with a nice melody. Laughing Gas and Man to

Ray are good, and the rest is OK. 6/10

Not really GOA. Try some later work by Juno. For example "Feel The Universe"

which is so good. "Man To Ray" is the best one here anyway. "High Energy

Protons" is kinda cool but U can find a remix of that track on the compilation

"Jungle 2 Trance" where it kicks ass. 5/10

i cant believe ppl can say this is not really Goa (and please dont say GOA, its

a place not an acronym) trance. This is the definition of Goa, everything else

after it strays because juno did it first. i'm not going to say this is their

best album, though high energy protons is one of THE classic trance tunes.

I like this album. And love it's minimalised kickdrum. As I read through

literature, Juno are one of the first artist that built Goa trance. So if you

would listen to it back in the 94, you would love it, b*cos it was an

innovative sound. You wound have had no idea back then, that their sound would

change a course of trance style. Now their sound is almost mature, and waiting

to be released with next album. ^crystal dancer^.

Ladies and gentlemen, do not judge this album too harshly. Please do remember,

that unless I am sourly mistaken, although the goa idea has been in

development since the 80s(read the What Is Goa article on this very website)

this album is the FIRST successful GOA ALBUM.

E V E R.

Think on that as you judge it almost 8 years later.

My opinion: 3/10 for the music in retrospect, almost no point in getting this

album nowadays even if you could. 11/10 for bringing The Pleiadians, Infected

Mushroom, X-Dream, Talamasca, Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Atmos, Darshan,

Doof, Etnica, GMS, Jaia, Biot, Shpongle, and many many more to our little blue

planet!

Yeah, I think you guys are lacking a bit of perspective and historical context

here. First of all, Juno Reactor, to me, has never really been officially

"Goa" - even Shango - though some of their tracks over the years sure sound

like it. Transmissions is one of the first albums, if not the first, to stray

from the norm and apply artistry and an edge to four-on-the-floor-style music.

Yes, the style of music has evolved since Transmissions - it's been a while -

but the music is still definitely surprisingly listenable - and definitely

more interesting than a lot of music put out these days. If you put this album

down for not sounding like Goa or not sounding good, it's like saying that the

Beatles don't sound like good rock 'n roll. Transmissions is one of the

classics of our genre and should be revered.

I agree with the above comments that this album is to be respected for its

integral role in the historical development of trance. But at the sime time I

still believe this album holds much listening potential. Yes, its certainly

different and positively ancient by goa standards, but it provides remarkably

low-key, hypnotizing atmospherics. High Energy Protons is an all time classic

(although I must admit, I do enjoy the Orion Mix on Bible of Dreams a bit

more). Overall, an incredibly ground-breaking work. 7/10.

it's funny, some people here wrote it was not goa, no melodies...godamn!

"contact" is full of melodies, lu-natic is nice nad all the others are good

and psychedelic. The uplifting beats is in the entire cd improving the perfect

construction of the musics. However, i know sometimes these kind of musics

dont really please some people who are (now) used to only listen to new goa

(much more powerful, hard, acid...), but this album is real goa. WE WANT THE

OLD GOA BACK!

I have each and every Juno album (I started with Bible)

and even though Beyond was my favorite for awhile, over

time, this one has been the one to curiously stick in

my mind. It is a lot more ambient and atmospheric, but

the last track (Landing) is awesome! I didn't like it

at first, but now I appreciate it so much - it's like

swimming in outer space. Whereas the Ancestors track

in Shango is more spiritual and tribal, Landing is more

a serene journey through the stars. Unbelievable that

Juno came out with this in 1993, and it took me till

1999 to find out about it!

This album is what goa was about and probably layed a good fundations for the

genre to grow. Juno Reactor is tweaking with their synths and it becomes

psychedelic in a non "static beat" way (which is the psy-trance idea, and the

minimal techno). I hope some artists can further develop the early style of

GOA and not music I don`t understand :D

If I want minimal I listen to Plastikman, If I want layers of synths tweaked to

form a changing atmosphere I listen to...... old GOA, and not the useless new

crap!

The fact that Children don't like this album should not prevent it from being

considered as what it is: a main step toward the music we all enjoy today

(btw, I for one like this CD). And those who say this is not Goa had better

revise their music history. Would you say that New Orleans music in the

beginning of the century was not Jazz because it sounded nowhere like Charlie

Parker? Please... Open your minds!

This album I just bought, yes, you can all laugh at me. I know, it's been

almost ten years!!! I just fucken heard it for the first time the other day.

Okay, this is the truth of what I think of it. I am amazed that this

was made in 1993. I was listening to other shit in 93, I thought to be great

back than. I can't believe how ahead of it's time, this album was. 1.)High

Energy Protons is great! 2.)The Heavens is really cool and melodic.

3.)Luna-tic flat out rocks! 4.)Contact is cool. 5.)Acid Moon I do not care

for, as it seems to go no where. 6.)10,000 miles is really good. 7.)Laughing

Gas is pretty cool, but not as good as 8.)Man To Ray. 9.)Landing starts slow

and becomes beautiful. Back then, Juno Reactor had to be 100% original, cause

Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogen, AP, MFG, etc, were not known! I know you all

know this, but they did this all from zero-commercial influence. Respect to

them! Now days, you don't know who is copying from who. Juno Reactor remains

original and different to date. Great album, GOA or NOT.

Listen to High Energy Protons... anyone who has ever heard this song on a big

P.A. system, with the right people and the right ambiance, knows that THIS is

true goa spirit!!! Gosh, how I'd love the old style (before the Israeli's and

Germans took over) to come back...

This album means so much to me. Back when I acquired this in 95 or so, I had

never heard anything like it. It was my introduction to the trance world,

whether you consider Transmissions Goa or not. No, it might not be as hard as

modern Goa, but this is equally as rewarding to listen to. So much of the

newer stuff is missing the mysticism and just plain spacey-ness old Juno

invoked. However, I do believe this was part of the beginning of modern Goa.

I wish new artists were as talented as juno!...well with the exceptions of some

mad folk. But seriously juno was so fuckin good because they pioneered and

meaning they didn't have to care about sounding a certain style. The whole

"this isn't goa i don't like it" thing is very very very bad and detrimental

imho. And it currently plague's the scene...i prefer this album to beyond the

infinate. And i simply love it, i love it's sound, it's so wonderful,

specially acid mooon such a great track! I wish other artists now thought

outside the box...everyone thinks same lame ass pattern of making a track,

throw a stupid half break that you tempo matched in recycle over your stomper

kick, through a snare on every 1/2 an open hi hat on every other 1/8, a stupid

little bassline and some bpf leads that's slightly keytracked to give it a

slightly musical aspect... this album is fuckin great...love it it always puts

me in a good mood, can't say that about half new artists...:o... fuck

formulas! this album was great cuz it innovated+sounded+sounds great!^_^

This is interesting.

I've got a fragment of Laughing Gas on tape. It was recorded around 96/97 from

a German radio channel called Einslive. This channel got me hooked up to

house/dance/trance - whatever you call it - in the first place.

A while ago i was listening to my old tapes again and i recorded some fragments

(including the laughing gas fragment, because it sounded so cool and different

from the rest). I asked on various forums if people could identify the

fragments and learned that one of them was Laughing Gas from Juno Reactor!!

This was a surprise to me because it sounds so different from the newer JR

music.

I think it rocks anyway, and it's from 1993 wow!

This album title should be listed as red. It is a real classic that dates back

as long as 1991-1992, before it released in 1993! Whether you call this Goa,

melodic trance, or old-skool, this is a true classic.
