Review:

An awesome album. I went to a shop, picked this up as I wanted to listen to

something new and fell instantly in love. Never heard of the name Spiral Active

Project or Yakov Biton before, but he certainly rocks! (If you know more about

him, mail me please). Lots of famous people visiting on this record, but I

would

guess that most of the sound is by Yakov Biton, because the style is generally

the same. This is very hard, quite dark and definetly psychedelic. I think this

album has probably the best groove of any album that I know, made with great

basslines (not complex but efficient in their cruel simplicity, Subshaker is

the

best example) and a hard pounding kickdrum, with other drums and percussion

joining in time to time. Groove alone does not make any track good, but that's

not problem. This album does not concentrate on the melodies really, but more

on

the textures and shapes of crazy sounds, which are plenty and just mindblowing.

Most of the sounds are distorted and hard, but there are some nice clear and

softer sounds as well, giving a good balance. There are some really nice

melodies here too, but usually the sound with what the melody is made takes

your

concentration more than the actual melody. This is why I initially thought this

as minimalistic, but with such an ever-evolving wall of sound, I don't think is

really minimalistic at all anymore. The production is also top-notch.

This album is very good to be listened through in its entirety, even

for several times over and over again. When it starts, I'm always like "oh my

God, this is sooo good". Surprise! The next two tracks are even better! Then

the

album explodes open with Grand Lioen! Awesome! My favourite track here is

Subshaker, a real stormer, so I guess I don't have to say more about it. The

rest of the tracks are also great. Ghost Buster is the only one with a typical

Israeli melody at one point. Grounded is my other favourite and the lightest

track on the album, but still quite hard. It's very spaced out.

Haven't seen it, but I would think that any track on this album would

make the dance floor go completely nuts. Though this is definetly different, I

recommend this highly if you like stuff like IM: The Gathering or SST: Digital

Dance of Shiva. 9/10.

MIND BLOWING STAFF from Yacov Biton. One of my favorite albums of all time (I

consider it one of my top 5). Harsh sounds, complex layering and very kicking

base lines make this album so great. This guy is really talented (by the way

the best track in my opinion on th Spacecat album - Invaion - was co-written

with Simon P. and...Yacov Biton). get it right a way.

Ehh. 7/10. It's definitely a nice departure for Krembo, much more complex

than their usual releases. However, it all kind of sounds the same, and

several tracks are just really repetitive. I get the sense that it's building

towards something, building and building but it never really figures out what.

Nice German-style spooky mood though, and this would be splendid with

something melodic overlaid. However, this is way better as a complete record

than as a a source of individual tracks.

I was looking in the vinyl section of a local store looking for some psytrance

... the only LP i found there was Koxbox' 'Dragon tales' (very well hidden)

... and this time my eye catched the Krembo label , but i certainly didn't

know about this Spiral Active Project ... i listened to it in the store and my

first impression was ... WOW , this is very good ! ... and it still is ...

but the LP is missing some tracks compared with the cd tracklist . I only have

track 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 9 ... my favourites are 2,3,5 and 9 ... i realy like the

'fifth element' sample in Grounded and the incredible melody ... imo one of

Krembo's best releases . i give this a 7,5-8/10 (eight would be too much and

7,5 a bit to little)

Ummm, I am pleasantly surprised by this album.

Yakov Biton gathered very good musicians for this very good dark psychedelic album. As people say, it has deep bass line, and tracks do sound a little bit the same but it is good nevertheless cause it is doing its purpose, it puts you in trance.

My favourites : RESISTANCE IS FUTILE, PSYKOV MEGALITHIC, CROW, GHOST BUSTER, GROUNDED....7.5/10
