Review:

Oh my god this is a crazy compilation of tracks... Matsuri are totally

wicked =).. Sandman rocks as usual, here with a nice tune that's got the

same sound as his first album did. Upcoming tracks are brutal. I specially

like Slug, GMS and Manmademan tracks. This compilation is really intense but

not very fast. The highlight is (like most albums) in the middlewith the

GMS track, that song is absolutely amazing.. it just makes me wanna

dance!!!!!! :)) You could actually by this compilation just for that

track alone!!! Last track is ambient stuff. Too bad cause a compilation like

this should have the same kind of tracks all the way I think. Because of this

I give this compilation a 8/10 instead of 9/10.. but it's anexcellent

compilation that you should get your hands on!!!! (btw don't get me wrong,

that last track is good for being ambient! it's just that I don't think it

fits in on this kind of compilation).

Hard-charging from the get-go, this album is as gorgeous as it is relentless.

There's more to this one than just pounding bass and arppeggiated acid riffs.

Complex percussion, swirly synths and those gone-but-not-forgotten melodies

dominate here. Highlights for me are Sandman, Slug (Tsuyoshi rides again!) and

a stormer from Manmademan. Arguably, 1997 was psy-trance's finest hour. Let

this CD serve as the time capsule, then. Better grab this one if you can. We

may never see those days again...8/10

This is one of my favorite compilations from matsuri. It's just so quality, I

love it! Alright so the Sandman track is a good opening track for the comp,

but the rest just gets better and better. There are just some super-quality

tracks on here. Deflo track is really good. Slug(w/Tsuyoshi) track is just

sooo good. It features Tsuyoshi's signature goa-break beats that just blows

you away. The highlight is obviously GMS! "Jaws" is such a sick sick track.

This one ranks equally high as "Lumberjack" on my list. I really like the

Manmademan track also. If you like Matsuri then this is an essential buy.

Even if you aren't, you'd be able to appreciate their unique sound! a solid

8/10 for the compilation and much respect to Tsuyoshi.

I'm with Ktaadn here - it may be to do with synchronicities in my life, but '97

was a highlight year musically, and this is the souvenir I care to cherish the

most. Outstandingly psychedelic in that after a few minutes I can almost feel

my mind doing acrobatics. Intense, out there and excellently produced. A

worthy reminder of a different direction that psychedelia was taking that

summer.

I discovered this one at a japanese mate's house a couple of months ago. Finally got around buying it for myself, and my god, I love this compilation! Intense, jaw-dropping psychedelia in that nice mechanic, pounding matsuri style of that period. Fantastic to see what crazy products the goa-to-psytrance era came up with (even though 97 is still early, this release sounds a lot more mechanical than organic to me).

Favourite tracks are Tio Mate by Deflo and Slugfest by SLUG. Tsuyoshi really ruled those days!

Tio Mate is such a great track. From memory it's my favourite on the comp. Fantastic album!

Deflo - Tio Mate blitzes you. Especially back then, it was like " what the f**k just happened??" Then Slug Fest sweeps in and beats the living shit outta ya!! Sheer funkadellic power! Both those tracks are something else.

Deflo had tracks on Feel the noise (Nick Taylor mix cd) and on Let It Rip if i'm not mistaken and they were equally bad-ass.

Gotta give Manmademan - Athalon props too!! Listen to it and your ass will be shakin' like a Brazilian carnival Queen!

Amazing comp.
