Artist: Etnica

Title: Plastic

Label: Blue Room

Date: 1996

Track listing:

01. 09'49" Plastic

02. 08'57" Vimana

03. 08'10" Floating Universe

Review:

3 excellent songs in the same style than the Alien

Protein album ! The melody in Plastic reminds a little of Trip Tonite, but the

song is faster and more pumping. Vimana is almost perfect, one of the best (if

not the best) song ever made by Etnica. Between 4:30 and 5:30 it is pure joy,

and it's too bad it doesn't last longer, but what follows is also very good.

Floating Universe is a little less good, because of a sound that enters at 4:30

which I don't like a lot. Overall a very good release : 9/10

YES, a very very good release.

Plastic is a dancefloor track quite cool, not agressive...the pure Etnica style.

Vimana is an absolute killer track (you cant imagine, listen to it, and know

how this visitor somehow displayed the way aliens have been genetically

altering the development of our DNA from our very beginnings, and that they

had inspired our greatest spiritual leaders!!

As for Floating Universe, you will only find it on the CD single, not on the

vinyl, and its a track that extends itself, it's strange. It's floating,

turning, weird in fact (also try to get the live version, it's said to be a

killer).

So remenber: Plastic And Vimana MUST be in your collection.

9/10

Wow, what an EP!

Plastic being a little more chilled, but with a good stomp and pretty raw

instruments (especially those in the intro).

Vimana is indeed a killer that will make anyone lose themselves on the

dancefloor. Fantastic melodies!

Floating universe starts by lifting you off the ground and then spins loose in

an ocean of stars.

Finally it carefully puts you back on earth. What a trip!

I follow the trend and give it 9/10...well done Etnica!

Btw, this is still availible from blueroom (both as vinyl and cd) so get it

immediately if you don't own it!

Very good EP by Etnica. Plastic is a dat slower than their usual speed, I

reckon. Vimana is a bit faster and more furious. Floating universe starts with

very subtle and soothing melody, then bassline comes in... then

kick kinda spoils it, but oh well. This isn't just ambient ;). Great stuff,

10/10 total.

"They had, in fact influenced the course of human history through rather

critical and startling ways."

(same applies with Etnica, btw) =)

This EP-and especially the "vimana" track- are absolutely the magestic

foundations on which the trance scene is built upon and sustained...The trance

scene, as a whole, is fed with inspiration with tracks like "vimana"-Truly

this is pure vicious space magic!!!!

If you believe that the word "psytrance" is a nowadays invention hear the song

"Plastic". The swedish sound called "minimal trance" is only the copy of

Etnica sound from 1996. Vimana is one of our "Spiritual leaders"!

"...and these beings have the technology to somehow just... slip in, and out."

What a perfect quote before one of the best goa melodies ever really kicks in :)

Vimana is one of their best, if not their best, track, and I'm counting Pleiadians material too when i say that. GET THIS!

Track list:

01. 09'49" Plastic - A-

02. 08'57" Vimana - A

03. 08'10" Floating Universe - A

Somewhere after Etnica's awesome Alien Protein album and before Pleiadian's groundbreaking I.F.O. album, the group released this 3-track EP album with excellent new work. This work is in the style of Alien Protein and the closest thing released by Etnica/Pleadians to I.F.O. before I.F.O., and here it is! People don't hear about EP's too often for some reason. In my history I questioned buying totally unrelated EP albums because they'd likely be a sample from the main album to come. It's ashamed so many Goa enthusiasts didn't hear these super songs considering they did not release on any main Etnica, Crop Circles, or Pleiadian album!

Plastic is GREAT Goa and very dance friendly. The melodies are strong, engaging, focused, and fluid throughout. As one would imagine from the artists of Pleiadians, a more free spirited melody cuts in and catches up with the beat, moving around, within, and soon without it's own existence to its liking as if it has a mind of its own. And the melodies keep on piling up, they all seem to flow and greatly compliment. As I've said in the past, it isn't how many melodies you have but how you use them! The voice sample is interesting and intriguing. It's generally thoughtful and aware sounding and placed few and far between segments of sound, never overdone or irritating. This is a groovy, smooth, great Goa-Trance song.

Vimana is one of the best tracks Etnica has ever released. There's numerous versions, so it gets a little confusing which is which at times. I have Etnica's best work around this and I don't get impressed easily. With Vimana, I'm impressed. Their sound was so infectious and engaging! Naturally I was impressed with Starship 101, Mystical Appearance In Goa, Moon Influence, Z-Plane Sunrise, Be On Go, and Baraka, among other remixes. Vimana is one of the best Goa songs I have ever heard. It's superb.

Floating Universe is an exceptional piece of music that again, shows us why Etnica/Pleiadians are pioneers and some of the most INFECTIOUS producers of electronic music -- let alone music, period.

In conclusion, Plastic is a superb EP. Vimana is one of the best Goa songs you will ever hear in your life. This old school sound was so delectably catchy! This rare compilation showcases three CLASSIC Goa tracks beyond most peoples expectations. Basically the Pleiadians made a short album right around the time they began, or were at work on I.F.O. and Vimana is really in that I.F.O.-esque style too. Enjoy it. This is awesome!!!!

Vimana is one of the best... if not the best track of Etnica EVER!!

The lead melody at 04.39 is imo truly "A alien piece of work". They are the true leaders of this genre.

As the sample says: "This visitor somehow explained the way aliens have been genetically altering the development of our DNA, from our very beginnings, and that they inspired our great spiritual leaders"...

A easy 9.9/10

Title: Plastic EP
Label: Blue Room Released
Date: March, 1997

2. Vimana
3. Floating Universe

You know an EP has to be good if there is 2 pages on the forum talking about it. Well, I am here to tell you...it is. Etnica began with 4 Italians and then 2 left, but I don't know if all 4 were around for this beast. This project is one of the cornerstones of goa trance and if you are doubtful, pick up a copy of Alien Protein and then shut your mouth. Sure their music "evolved" and took a turn to I don't know what the f*ck, but we will always have this. Like all EP's from that era, it is ridiculously hard to find a copy. I'm sure you can download it from somewhere, but for true collectors the hunt is what is important. First off the colors of the cover are both soothing and vibrant and I suppose it is what makes it instantly recognizable to those in the know. It was released on a label that back in the day was a king for releasing some of the best goa trance stuff out at the time. Infinity Project, Total Eclipse, Koxbox...you get the idea.

Plastic- Bubbling and scratching above a big beat is how this track begins when the break brings a melody to the forefront. Very rhythmic and dare I say dark. It's so easy to get caught up in the groove, but they drop another break on you with delicate synths twisting in the darkness. Something wicked this way comes! The leads climb over each other in a thickening pattern. Not much change, just constant unfolding and undulating synths. Nice! With yet another break the scratching effect returns and another synth rotates underneath. Pure psychedelia that proves alien life is out there.

Vimana- "This visitor somehow displayed the way aliens have been genetically altering our DNA from our very beginnings. And that they have inspired our greatest spiritual leaders."

One of the greatest tracks in goa trance lore. 10 minutes of pure perfection from the beginning sample and the rambling synth to that signature synth that uncurls its fiery tendrils to lick at you. It rolls, gets twisted as it is joined by an equally acidic lead. The way it vibrates, it's hypnotic. You can see where a lot of the inspiration for new school artists comes from. Rising scales again confirming the presence of extra terrestrials. There are quite a few samples here, but they are not dominating but well placed, keeping with the theme. It grows in intensity as the climax approaches preaching mysticism and full power. This is a perfect example of a track that uses its ten minutes to all its storytelling glory. BLISS.

Floating Universe- Floating is an accurate way to describe this track. It begins with a slower tempo as synths bubble like a witches cauldron. The melodies twist you, as they scramble and soar. Evolution is evident as the track gets deeper and deeper. So ultra smooth with pinpoint bass and spiraling synths that seem to change around every corner. At times this track is eerie and carries a very outer space vibe. Another classic that needs to be heard.
