isn't it great to see a whole page with not a single "this sucks" review (cept

for that one joke i guess), I can only add to this, WICKED album, I can see

the appeal to all those disappointed with the progressive/minimal direction

these days but I want to say that I like alot of minimal stuff, and also LOVE

this cd, it also brings back alot of happy memories from kickin up dust

listening to this guy out in the bush. nice work fractal =)

well finally a release form oz whihc i can really dig after a long time...

fractal glider have been around, i have heard some of their work before, but

this album is something else.. awesome carahan feeling witht the bassline

coming in the first track and this stays with you for a long time... put on

fractal glider and you will think the golden days are back, the tracks are

always fresh, soundscape melodic and always have that happy morning carahana

feeling.. on the down side, sometimes the sounds come a bit muffled...

nevertheless fractal glider has released one of my favorites in the last

couple of months... keep it strong,,, peace.

I wrote a review earlier here, and I still love this album! What I wanted to

say is that if you like this one, try Fractal Gliders previous album FRAUD!

Maybe it isn't as technical advanced as this but it has awesome flow like in

the oldschool trance, AND YOU GET SUCH ADRENALINE RUSHES FROM IT! *TIP!*

(that's what I wanna dance to at feasts - go crazy!)

I bought this because of all these good reviews here. But i just dont see what

the fuss is about. Its not really very good in my opinion. The production

quality could be better as well. It does have an old goa-ish vibe to it. I

think this is dancefloor music and not really for home listening, unless you

want to dance at home of course! This is hard (which is good) but a little too

"high pitched" for me so that it feels like its screaming at me.

My gosh! This is a great album! Finally something what we CAN call psytrance!

No bad tracks in it! My favourite is Karmic Implications. And lot of people

sad that this should be highlighted, i think the same! 11/10!!

Finally an album filled with authentic Goa sounds just the way it should be! I

also agree it should be highlighted because there just isn't a single bad

track on this. The best track is Witch Doctor (and may possibly be the best

FG track yet). Rating 10/10

Why this album isn't highlighted is a mystery to me as it seems to contain a

huge dose of the essence of Goa: stomping, powerful, dark, uplifting, trippy.

Paul McCosh seems to specialise in ripping 303 sounds which always have a

melodic element to them, and each track is structured in the classic Goa

style, with melodies returning after breakdowns, just when you thought they'd

gone forever. Not all of the tracks are quite as good as each other: to my

mind "telementery" and "karmic implications" are not quite up there with the

others, but on the whole this is a relatively consistent album. My slight

criticism is that the mastering or pressing is perhaps not quite what it could

be - it seems that all the treble sounds are biased towards the left, and this

makes for a somewhat twisted soundscape. Oh, and the cover art, whilst having

an interesting idea behind it (sort of like "The Matrix" with insects instead

of robots), is not so great and will date - too many albums are resorting to

really dodgy computer graphics which are going to look very cheesy in ten

years time. In case you're wondering what cover art I think is cool, then I'd

have to include Doof's "Let's Turn on", Asia 2001's "Dreamland", amongst

others. Nevertheless, this one is a must for anyone's Goa collection. 10/10

FRACTAL GLIDER - PARASITE

BOOM! RECORDS

2002

Track list:

01. Skanda's Tail ... B+

02. Mezmorized ... B+

03. Telementery ... B+

04. Karmic Implications ... B+

05. Language Of Silence ... B+

06. Raspy Honks ... B+

07. Colonization ... B

08. Witch Doctor ... B+

09. Earth Tremors ... B+

Parasite is an AWESOME album. I love the smooth crisp melodies, sound textures, and style in this package. Parasite is easily my favorite album by this artist. Some of the songs are very alien sounding. The melodies and sounds often come in sonic waves and particles, as opposed to streaming melodies or an over abundance of quantity over quality. Parasite is a highly danceable album that I also enjoy for home listening, working out, and driving to. It may not be the most trance inducing album but it sure is a heck of a lot of fun to listen to.

Remember the Minimal Psytrance craze in the early 21st century? Then this album came blasting through the sticky normalcy like a rocket. This album contributed to waking up scene into remembering that Minimal Psy is not taking over. It's just a trend. Sadly, it seems that this style was "just a trend" for the artist too. It's the only real GOA album he has made to date. The Full On Psytrance follow-up, with exception to few tracks such as the Mezmorized (Rmx), just isn not not in the same awesome/sonic style that nourished our ears and minds here.

The opening melody alone sounds paramount, as if to declare war or make a powerful statement. The second track sounds party goofy, part badass and I love how the badass side wins out in the end. The last third gives it a fresh turbo boost of energy. Even the final number is gripping, catchy, and well composed. It's not too light hearted and gentle, but the downtempo-esque Goa number keeps its spirit in line with the rest of the gem.

In Conclusion, this is a great album with an arsonal of infectious melodies, twisted sounds, darkly driving planet soaring, and various other trippy and elegant aspects. At times the album is good, or great, or excellent. There are no average (or below) tracks on this baby. This novel style is dark and driving, but it's generally more intense and aggressive than it is evil or angry. If indeed this is Full On Goa/Psy, it is one of the very best Full On Goa/Psytrance albums I've ever heard. Oh, and someone said this artist doesn't do ambient or downtempo well and should stick to psy..? Yeah no. Earth Tremors is very well done for a slower final track.

Favorite Tracks: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9

Very interesting, this is like the missing link between goa-trance and full-on to be honest. It clearly borrows elements from both, but leans towards goa-trance. A stellar album and in my opinion there could have been a lot of potential in this particular style, but as Cocco said, his later inputs ended up being cookie-cutter full-on, shame.

Wow after all this time I finally listened to this again. Talk about badass music! As much power as colorbox, psygone and bypass unit imo. So much OOOMPH in this production and it definitely leans more to goa and quite thinly to full-on to be honest. This was a pleasant surprise. Witch doctor is massive balls to the walls stomper.

Funny you should bump this release. I was going to post about it elsewhere a few weeks ago but got delayed by various things. However, I wasn't going to review it. Instead, I'd like to find out the correct track listing. Quoting Matt (Label manager) from the first page:

Sadly, there was a Major Problem in Australia with the track listing =(( We

were too late to recall the cds, so we will try and improve on this for the

repress.

We were however in time to recall the LPs, and have had all new covers made

with the correct tracklistings for you vinyl freaks, although this has caused

a slight delay ..

What is printed on the CD and copied to Discogs is:

01. Skanda's Tail

02. Mezmorized

03. Telementery

04. Karmic Implications

05. Language Of Silence

06. Raspy Honks

07. Colonization

08. Witch Doctor

09. Earth Tremors

While the label site and Paul's old site say:

01. Skanda’s Tail

02. Mezmorized

03. Language of Silence

04. Witch Doctor

05. Telementery

06. Karmic Implications

07. Raspy Honks

08. Colonization

09. Earth Tremors

I only have the vinyl version, where the listing should be correct. If I recall correctly, it corresponds to the latter listing. Noticeably, "Karmic Implications" (track 6) should have a sample reflecting its title. Similarly the major stomper track 8 is actually called Colonization and so on. Does anyone remember/support this? I can grab some samples from the vinyl for checking.

If this is all true, then there are probably a million P2P and YouTube copies, where the track names are wrong.

Dunno why you bother listing P2P and youtube when the actual cover is incorrect lol. Even people who have the actual CD have it incorrect. You should post this to the discogs page instead as they are more in charge of correct track-listing. Big mistake by the label, shame.

"We're gonna send you to a place that's so far out, that people have wings!"

Ever been mad? Of course, we all have. Whether you step on a lego with bare feet or some schmuck cuts you off in traffic everyone knows the feeling of anger.

I imagine that's how Paul McCosh must've felt when he had completed this album only to find that the tracklisting was messed up. No problem, just change it before they send it away to be...

What's that now? Oh...you already sent it? I...see...

Yeah I'd be pissed too. What turns out to be his greatest work gets f*cked up because of a simple error. Because someone didn't take the minute to pick up the phone and verify the track names? Suppose that's what happens in our little niche of the electronica industry. Bet this sh*t never happened to Kanye.

mTi0vJb.gif

"Yeah that was funny what you did...remember that?"

*I'm gonna kill all...you... white motherf*ckers.*

This was a great combination of hard, squelchy psytrance with some goa seasoning that turned out really well. Tracks like Skanda's Tail and Colonization really drive the point home. Witch Doctor has a thumping full-on bass line showing us what twilight psytrance could be. Dark and powerful before we knew what Timecode and Nexus Media was. Raspy Honks becomes a sonic tsunami that is one of my favorites. Even though I continue to hate that synth riff on Mezmorized the second half really picked it up. The effects really bring the cover art to life as if a swarm of insects are crawling over a thousand microphones. The final track is a "not so chill" ending that encapsulates the eerie feeling of this album. There's a couple of filler tracks, but the album itself is pretty solid.
