Guest squidbyte Posted February 14, 2001 Share Posted February 14, 2001 wicked!! i won't over-analyze the details but nonetheless this is a FUN album! luckily i have most of these songs on vinyl, as the cd is rare and the only mp3s floating around are 96kbps (wtf??).. i don't think their newer album is up to par with their old stuff in terms of creativity but i have high hopes for their future projects! c'mon OOOD amaze us like you used to! I bought it because I loved the Silence version on Travelling 1 : the song loses all of its uplifting power here !! Very disappointing... Cthulhu, Cosmic Ripple and Herbs and Spices would sound pretty great with a better sound for sure. 1/10 for the sound quality, 8/10 for the composition of these 4 tracks. It sounds great, I don't know where I found the production problem, it's nonsense. Compared to all the minimal stuff you find nowadays, it's so refreshing to listen to so good old school tracks. 8/10 for the whole album, definitively ! khogg Posted January 16, 2002 Share Posted January 16, 2002 I can't get into this at all which surprised me because I was impressed by their other album Breathing Space. Alive on the other hand is hard to listen to. It's full of screachy squealy nintendo style ear-splitting sounds layered at break neck pace over what would otherwise be an allright song. I've listened to it a few times now and nothing really stands out. To be fair this may appeal to those of you who like harsher sounds in music. None the less, I can not recommend this to anyone. Trance2MoveU Posted October 24, 2007 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Another great taste of nostalgia! This is very good goa trance with the supreme track being Cosmic Ripple IMHO. But it is all good. This isn't 4 on the floor power trance with hi-hats blazing, it's more complex with different rhythms but still chock full of that delicious goa sound. Tasty! The original masterpiece was released back in the golden days of 1997 on Cabbaged Records, but in 2008 Colin and Ektoplazm were proud to re-release this classic in digital format. Flac, wav, mp3...whatever. All the tracks were recorded live at various parties and put together on one album. And what an album it was. This is their crowning achievement in goa trance and one of the absolute classics of the genre. The only template you'll find here is no template. You couldn't find a full-on bass line with a CSI team. It's organic and evolving wielding 303 madness all along the way. From Cthulu to Two Dawns over Baleshwar it is a flowing morass of oscillating synths and stacked melodies that build tension and threaten to explode. I used to dislike Kundalini, but in the early morning darkness as dawn was approaching I finally got it and let it wash over me. Not the best track (that goes to the psychedelic monster Cosmic Ripple), but it fits right into the theme of this album. My least favorite is Rifa which requires speed, ecstasy, and a dancefloor that slopes downward just to keep up. But even that one and its blazing pace demand respect. Thanks to Colin and Basilisk for making this happen. Too often the greats of the genre go unappreciated because the CD's are so hard to come by so you have to make do with iffy download quality.
