Flowjob : Fluff Me Tender Review: My opinion is that this is a great compilation, don't hesitate, get it. The recording, mastering and pressing are particularly nice. My track listing is a bit different, as I have the vinyl, but the Emok track is a nice example of fairly standard Scando progressive sounds. The Jaia track is very nice - old school, melodic, but something different - it even has pop and rock elements somehow. The Filur track is excellent, Flowjob do a good take on melodic progressive trance and the Oryx track is really outstanding. Oliver Bierlich is one of the real stars in trance at the present, his creations are just beautiful, and totally dancefloor-friendly. Iboga records has been putting out some great stuff recently, witness the eps from Orion, Filur, etc; and this compilation similarly keeps up the high standard with dancefloor-friendly progressive sounds that manage to be left of centre. The production quality is really excellent, especially on the vinyl. All of the tracks are quirky, and contain interesting percussion and melodic elements and have a lighter touch that avoids the hypnotic and sometimes boring aspect of some progressive trance, suggesting that Iboga are trying to chart new territory. It is good to see Jaia back with a melodic, even cheesy, track that meanders all over, but the really outstanding track on the album is Oryx's "This goes back" which is just fantastic. Like all of Oliver Bierlich's recent work, it is aimed at the dancefloor, but is so uplifting in its swirling bubbles that the dancefloor cannot fail to be moved. shahar@isratrance Posted April 27, 2003 Share Posted April 27, 2003 Iboga has been going through some changes in the last two years, touching new musical directions, also in a bit of a confused way. If this compilation is to show the new Iboga way, then I pretty much like it. Still your Scando-progressive sound, with clubby touches, but with enough feel and psychedelia to keep it interesting. It start with a new Jaia track- it's nice, interesting, and even groovy, but hasn't got the deep emotional feel I'm used to from Jaia (I miss it). Frogacult continue much more of what for me is the right direction. Lucky Strike is progressive in feel, yet caressing and beautiful. Oryx next (T3) with a very psychedelic and drippy tune- excellent! Then it's Filur with Underrated (T5), the best track here really, so much feel and powerful atmosphere, and much more psytrance- I like the new Filur way. This track is something else, and it gets so much better every time I listen to it. It's been a while since I said that, but, here goes... this one's worth the compilation all by itself. Feels good to say that. With Double Dragon things start to get clubbier, but still the kind of clubby music that keeps it interesting for the brain.Cex (T6) has nice tight grooves that pull well and together with the nice feel carry the slow evolving patient build very well. Didn't get the sample though. Emok, care to explain? True to nature start taking us on the way out with Pulsar (T7)- beautiful spooky melody with tons of feel. Excellent pre-dawn track. Ending the CD is another beautiful caressing progressing track- the name of both the artist and the track say it all perfectly. Nothing to add. Bottom Line: An excellent progressive psychedelic trance flowing nicely between these two poles, while keeping it both interesting and moving. Favorites: 2, 3, 4(!), 7, 8. My favourite are 4 (dreamy powerfull progressive trance with a massive atmosphere) and 6 (a deep tribal hypnotic smasher).. the rest is certainly not bad at all , every track is GOOD and finished . If you're addicted listening to minimal psychoactive rhythems . Starts off with the excellent dreamy Peter Pan Syndrome track from Jaia, which is just one of the best pieces of melodic progressive I have heard in a long long time. The rest if this cd is up to par, changing from more darker, tribal to more progressive and smooth sounding.
