A mod creating it? Nah, thats the job of a programmer :)

EDIT: Not that a mod cant be a programmer (Trying to avoid being flamed)

So if I ask to have travellers post deleted is he calls EP a drama queen again he will be safe from being warned?

Sorry, but I fail to see the relevance.

Well, both have talked about it with Mars PM I believe, and they BOTH asked me to delete the posts. Now, lets stay on topic here please?

Ok, then, if EP asked it to be removed he at least understood he was out of line and maybe need no warning, fair enough.

The topic can be summed up very easily IMO:

A storm in a waterglass.

It's no problem if people say nice review if they like what someone wrote.

It's not like the reviews have 50 pages of comments not relating to the release itself as it is now, so I really don't see what the fuzz is about.

A system for reviewing the reviews would not be used that much is my guess.

What a soap opera. Surely everyone should be allowed to post whatever they want (except racism, porn etc.) in whatever thread they want?

381032

Its not about who writes what here. Its about keeping a review clean and nice. Some points that I have here are:

1. Each review has one section

2. Each review has its own commenting system

3. Each reviewer then can read their comments, and so can all others.

4. If you chose not wanting to read somoene elses comments on the reviewers review, you dont have to.

5. Its cleaner, and it would be much more efficient for searches.

So, no, again, im NOT saying that people should NOT be able to comment on how someone makes a review. And I am not saying that people should not be able to give the reviewer compliments.

Im saying, you can IMPROVE the way how things are made, thats all.

Of course a system like that would be great if there was a lot of posts.

But considering that the review with the most posts on the first page of the 2005 section (shpongle) has 6 pages, and very few reviews have more than one page, is it really an area in desperate need for improvement?

I'll agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly, but you have to admit that sometimes (IMO in this case) it's a bit superfluous.

I suppose it depends on who you want to cater to. If you'd sooner cater to the regular posters then I believe the review system should be left as it because it's the banter, the spamming, the arguing and and sillyness that, in my opinion, adds to the reviews. If on the other hand you want to cater to those who periodically visit mainly looking looking for reviews then maybe your ideas should be implemented.

This thread is too much to read but for what it's worth I think review threads should contain reviews and not so much chatter... there is a fine balance here - sometimes you get some contraversy that floods out the reviews, at other times people are having short-lived discussions that add some depth to their own reviews. Generally I think the reviews should be far more review-oriented than discussion-oriented. People have and will continue to start topics here in the general forum to have a more conversational topic about a release, and I think that works best. We also have topics about reviews themselves here. Generally I think people should be conscientious and start a thread here if they think they're going to start up something that will mostly be a waste of time to other people.

PS Derango is forest music, chumpski.

That's good to get back to the point.

I kinda agree with that. Also because we don't have a proper review system. If we add i guess the only things to avoid would be :

- "nice/bad album." too short reviews.

- fights & spam of course, including stuff like "full on is shit", you see.

Else a 2-dimensional review system would be the best imo : for a chosen release you can review independently one after the other, or just react (comment) on some existing review.

And Charlie's point is THE point. Because Psynews was basically a place to review including a forum (and not the contrary), that i never have the time to reprogram so that it's like it was in the good old times. Maybe one day...

Why not just organise to use proper reviews from trance.net or psyreviews? I'm sure they wouldn't be to mindful, seeing as saikosounds uses them, then block any replies... good professional reviews without any crap from the likes of me or traveller.

Certain people just need to realise that critiscm can be a good thing as well... to say something is not good can open up the artist to new ideas, maybe to look at his music from another point of view, and come back with a new perspective... half the reason this entire bloody scene is so stagnant with it's easy-to-template music is that everybody seems to be afraid to give a bad review... it's ok to say something is bad, but make sure you explain why, and if you find it insulting that somebody doesn't love your fav artists, send them a pm, not a public message to start a war!

You guys are insane.... theres nothing else i can say about that. the eview section worlked perfectly, someone makes one stupid comment, and all hell breaks loose and an otherwise nice section is questioned over and over from all different sides and angles. keep it as it is, who needs to change it?

another thing, i dont review much, but when i do, i very much appreciate feedback. like fluffy said "never underestimate the effect of public backstroking". if there was no feedback whatsoever here, i wouldnt post my reviews here at all, i d just go to isratrance to post them. a forum is all about interaction, why take that away. i mean, what good does it do to spend 2 hous on a review when no one can tell you if they liked or not.anyways, my point is, if comments on the reviews will be forbidden, i will never post another review here.

The point was not to take them away, if you read all the posts. The point was to put them in another place of the review....

whoa .. i didn't read all the 5 pages entirely.

first, it's kind of hard not to take personally some things that have been said.

this was not my first review, surely, but it WAS my first detailed, "track by track" review.

now, i was nervous about my review, so when people said "nice review moni, you should do it more often, we could use a woman's point of view" .. surely it felt really good to me. i posted my review on 3 forums, got nice words on the review, this is the only place where my review created problems. "my home".

And I doubt you would have bothered to even comment on any one else review if it was not Moni.. As Trolsk said. keep the fanclub to pm's.  My 2 cents.

380890

this is what bothers me. f*ck everybody that mention this "moni fanclub". yes. f.u.c.k. o.f.f. all of you.

i've been on this forum for 4 f*ucking years, i never did trouble to anyone, i even think i am a pretty good girl, so i see no reason why people should not like me or at least be nice to me. also, for quite some time, there were no girls here except me and maybe 1 or 2 girls more. so yes, in a group of 100 men .. 2-3 girls WILL get attention. even if the 100 men were gay.

surely i don't expect everybody to like me, i know there are quite a few that have a problem with me. i got nothing against that.

but ... i will say that all people who mention this "moni fanclub" ... are being disrespectful and envious and lame. you can all f*ck off.

A second argument is time/history. Imagine if you enter the Voice of Cod thread six months from now, all you want is to read a review of the album, but instead you have to scroll past irrelevant information (such as praise of Monis first review). I also find it very annoying with "i'm really looking forward to this", "just ordered it", "can't wait to hear it" type of replies. Totally useless.

380920

this is true. i aggree totally.

though 2, 3 people that said "nice review moni" can hardly be considered pages and pages of spam. it's not the first time that someone gives a "nice review!" on a forum.

but, since you said:

"This is the Voice of Cod review thread not the worship Moni thread. Please use the PM function for praise or join the Moni fan club."

.. well, you and your opinnion can f*ck off. you could have used a nicer way to say it, not make me feel bad about people giving me "nice review moni!" comments.

Indeed. It's one of the nicest things when you spend hours on a review and then some people actually bother to step up and tell you that they liked it or whatever..

380964

this is also true, i aggree it was very good for me to get good feedback on my review, as i had many doubts about it. i even made DeathPosture read it before posting. so when he confirmed that the review was ok, and not full of bullsh1t, i posted it.

to conclude:

- i am for keeping the reviews section clean. the Voice of Cod reviews thread is not the only thread that needs a lil bit of cleaning up though. there are other threads who went a lil offtopic.

just an example, mars's thread about Eskimo is totally weird and i would have moved it from there. it's full of artist bashing, and maybe between the bashing there are 2 short reviews?? something like that.

- this is a free forum, no? or at least this is what we would like it to be. so surely people will post a "hey man, nice review!" .. and that's good for the guys who do all the reviewing work. it's like a reward ... only those who write reviews can understand this feeling and the boost that it gives to you seeing that you're being appreciated.

- that's what mods are here for. to keep the reviews section clean. posts that are not related to the release can be deleted after a while. even PM the reviewer, show him that he got feedback on his review, and then make a note "i have deleted the posts that are not related to the release". surely tekk will say that he doesn't have time to keep an eye open for everything. i am sure it will not be hard to find a person to keep an eye on the reviews section. i already mentioned that i would like to be a mod for the reviews section. not that there is much to moderate there .. let's not forget that if moderation level gets increased, people will be angry and maybe even stop surfing and posting on psynews.

but yes, tekk cannot keep an eye on everything.

- some people should bitch less ..

man this post was long.

YES: it's better to try & keep the reviews limited to reviews & nothing but reviews.

BUT: I don't really considder it a deadly sin :P to write something like "haven't heard this one yet" or "nice review, X !" Especially in case somebody else found a way to put your own feelings about a release into words, there's no harm in saying so, I think?

& some encouragement for the "non-professional-reviewers" can only lead to more reviews & that used to be the whole point of this website, no?

I have an idea...

why don't you use the system like on psychedelic.be...

every user is allowed to post one post reply on every review and that's it...

too bad you can't discuss about the music then, but if you want to discuss about the music open a thread in the general section....

people will wait to post and don't say I haven't heard this yét, this sounds amazing, they wil wait until they heard the released and have a good opinion cause they are only allowed to have on post in the reviewthread...

no ?? stupid ?? just thinking  , finding a way out :)
