Am i the only one who thinks that it all started with the minimal "movement" back in 2001 ?

360923

i would say the full-on movement in general... not talking about early stuff classified as full-on [ e.g Full on Vol 2 etc ], but gms stuff & skazi & ~Killargh" stuff.

commercialisation, in a few words. money.

I didn't understand you. What has full on (early or not) got to do wih minimal? Minimal was before any kind of full on.

yes i didnt talk about minimal.i just said i dont think it's minimal that is to blame for psychedelic goa falling into coma... rather than commercilisation<--->wider audience<--> full-on music

Fuul-on, minimal toke me some time to get used to but al least there was creativity.

now there isn't

EXAMPLE: most of my friends are not into goa, some even purely into hardcore gabba, i some times take them to partys, where as before they didn;t like the style they respected the effort.

now without knowing anything about goahistory or fullonn progressive (bulshit other subgenres), they look at me with astounoshment and say:

"goa was about weirdness, creativity, psychedelica, this fullon music, it is pop commercial bullshit.

we always thought goa would be last genre where this horrible thing would happen"

point made

Imo when the minimal movement startes all psytrance artists lost their identity and originality, they all produced minimal. Listen to Astral Projection - Amen album. Even AP made one or two minimal tracks (I still remember the reviews on the old reviews section praising Technodrome as the best track on the album - i always laugh when i read it). Or is it a coincidence that in another topic the best Etnica album was NOT Nitrox?

My point is that when they all found out that minimal was popular, they all started producing it, even if it wasnt what they really wanted to do. Im sure you agree that this isn't the essence of art. Well, if this isn't the cause of every commercialisation, then what is it?

14. Technology

If it wasnt's for the VST technology, we'd still only listen to the music made by professionally trained musicians or people who reeeaaalllyy care. Instead, every moron with DC++ can download cracked Cubese SX & VST / VSTi plugins and make music in theirs bedroom. Then he finds one of the many just-opened-this-week killarghh full-on labels and releases the crap...

360769

professionally trained musicians with a lot of money to buy expensive equiptment that doesnt guarantee good music.

or give the tools to the people and discover great artists that otherwise would have remained in the shadow.

about the killargh full-on labels eager to release this kids with a phat bassline, its again, all about greed.

yes , i agree... same happened with full-on...

but i wouldnt say Astral P - Amen was really minimal... maybe a bit fullonish... and i am sure their new album will be even worse <_<

anywayz...

Yep, i agree. But what started with minimal, continiued with full on, only this time full on is easier to reach "wider crowds".

And regarding AP, no, Amen was not minimal, but it tried to be in some parts (like the track Technodrome) which i found pretty lame. They tried to go with the flow and against their own selves (as many other artists did) and ofcourse they failed.

after everybody got bored with those goa melodies (imagine that!), minimal progressive almost ruined psy for me. back in 2001-2002. boring repetitive uninspired unpsychedelic crap, with no end in sight...

it'll come again, don't you worry...

i'm fairly new to psytrance myself, but can't really say that i feel it's ruined in any way.. just things seem to have changed but theres still a lot of interesting and good music around.. well.. for me. :)

but reading all these posts, i'd like to ask, what in the psytrance scene do you guys still like? i mean.. there must be something that keeps you interested.

Ach but seriously, there is still loads of good psytrance. I know many albums I personally look forward to a lot. Ofcourse there's stuff that doesn't appeal to me (both music- and otherwise) but I love psytrance... have done since the day I first got in contact with it.

I think that LACK OF INSPIRATION killed trance the most. I like almost every trance genre ( except euro and nitzhonot trance ) and I can agree with every progression, or technological revolution, but it seems that producers and artists lack mostly the inspiration...there is still made good music but even that music lacks many things it had before, like dynamics, or melodies, or harmonies, or stories, or MANY ideas.

Next is FULL ON bassline ! Argh ! I quite liked full on in beginning but due to lack of ideas and general minimising the sound, trance suffered from complete transformation to strictly full on fashion. Okay, there are still progressive and minimal that are GREAT now, but it lacks psychedelia and trippyness.

Then come kids on speed, Skazi and co.

On the contrary I would say that there's much more progressive that's way more psychedelic and trippy and indeed much closer to trance (as in getting into a state of trance WITHOUT drugs) than most Full ON and the so-called psy these days.

I meant to say that there isn't anymore Psychedelic and trippy music as it is used to, yes, there is plenty of proggy stuff that is closer to trance but I so much miss those twisted, demented, wild times.

Oh yeah. How could we forget?

13. MP3 DOWNLOADING KILLED PSY TRANCE R.I.P.

360715

are you being serious?

the only reason labels complain about that shit is because they have become interested in one thing, MONEY.

dont forget this scene we call PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE was built on TRADING.

that being said i love my originals. always have always will.

as everyone is aware

it is the change in mentality

people do not believe anymore that we connect through hypnotic beats and surf through frequincies sent by aliens whilst being aware of oneness and shiva dances along us creating and destroying the cosmos.

People wanna have a good time, just like they do in somewhere else. Goaparties were sacred meetings believe it or not. I never felt more engaged spiritually than in any secular religious ritual. No mosque, no church, no synagogue woke up the feelings in me like when I found a fluoro party place in a forest looking like aliens have already been landed and furthermore started playing music and dancing.

People wanted to be a part of it, now people want to be the audience. Rather than being they now started having which is the crucial part. The attitude was so naive and so pure, lets get all the mad, peaceful people who believes in a higher from of consciousness which can be experienced at a special kind of party situation that has been crafted for this by the people who are doing it and dance for it. I always loved the two words "Space Tribe" it sums up so well the things I felt towards this whole thing.

So in short just like Erich Fromm said it is the difference "to have or to be"
