hey i know you wanted info on festivals outside Canada but since you seem to live in Ontario there's really nice festival this summer pretty close from where you are..

It's Eclipse on july 29th to july 31st in Quebec..

It's in my knowledge the biggest psytrance line-up so far in Canada:

Wow that lineup looks amazing... We really don't get much like that here, ever. And its 3 days too, not too long and not too short. It's close enough too, so that one should be a priority this summer. Some of my very faves there (Delta, Spirallianz, Tetraktys is good too)

Last summer BooM, the year before VooV.. but this year I definitely wanna go to Full-Moon. it has so many "evil" artists this year that I will go insane on the dance floor the whole length (6 days?) could be a bit too much, so I'm waiting for the timetable to choose a 3-4 day period to go there.

Hey it might be far but the best music and trance parties are in South Africa Western Cape to be exact. Like this weekend is the beartrap featuring broken toy and rinkadink album launches and dark soho on top of that then theres the timecode crew to grind us to the ground. plus we dont fool around its hard and very psychedelic.

I went to the Om Festival, which is usually held within a 5-hour drive from Toronto (though in different locations)

And I seem to recall an event called Teknival or something which happened here, I didn't go and don't know if it still happens here.

Whether this is going to be a good year for festivals in Ontario is anyone's guess... but they could be decent. I though OM last year was rather nice. Teknival has potential (I've gone every year) though so far its been a bit of a sketch fest in the deep woods. I had more fun romping around a waterfall than I did playing beats or dancing around. Teknival will probably happen again this year but I'd wait to see if they try any changes in the approach. BLA or Eloko might have a festival again, who knows? Morning star was ok... had potential. Quebec has some big ones. There's Omni down in NY state which I hear is great... there are a few things around here to choose from to augment any international travelling you might do.

I highly recommend the Shambhala music festival located in the beautiful interior of British Columbia. It's not all psytrance, they try to have a good variety of talented artists, you would probably really enjoy the Inna Sancdom. This is an image from Lorin Bassnectars set in the Fractal Forest

The energy is very pur out there !

And the site was just beautiful the year i went ..

In BC there isn't anything big for psytrance, but there's an awesome scene though..

Last summer in BC, deliria (www.deliria.org) threw an amazing party in the middle of the mountains with Visual Paradox.. It was one the best site i've seen for that kind of party !! 3 hours away from Vancouver, in the middle of the forest surrounded by mountains with a little river flowing just beside... You know, the "mountain paradise".. it's there !! The vibe was really dement and very pur, everybody was sooo nice i couldn't believe it !! wow wow !!

If you're in Ontario though i'd still suggest eclipse with that line-up !!

Siebenbuergen / Transylvania belonged to different states in the course of its history:

in the antiquity the Daker -, then the Roman realm, in the Middle Ages the Kingdom of Hungary, in the modern times of the Habsburger monarchy and since 1918 Romania.

One of the residents cultures are the "Transylvania Saxons", who where called approx. 860 years ago from one of the Hungarian kings who confirmed Transylvania by document as a Hungarian state. They contributed considerably to the development Transsilvanias. Many of the today's cities, villages and castles were built of the "Saxons". The designation "Saxons" is misleading, since the settlers originated not exclusively from Saxonia but from Flandern, Luxemburg, Austria (Tirol) from 1734). 1930 still approx. 250,000 saxons lived in Romania, there is today only about 20,000, most left after the communist dictatorship to Germany.

There will be only 1,000 tickets available for this event and there has already been many reservations so far. there is 604 spots left!! EMP Workshop & Artist Exchange

9 July 2005 - 19 July 2005

 

40 people will have the special opportunity of meeting some of the artists in the line up for 10 days to produce together with them some high quality electronic music! The best tracks made in that time will be released on a special compilation and will be played at Transylvania Calling Gathering 2005. The EMP Workshop takes place in and around of a castle in Transylvania not far from Hermannstadt / Sibiu which is surrounded by massive big walls.

 

If you ever wanted to have some experienced electronic music producers around you to give you tips and help you out where you get stuck, this is the chance to meet some of them and many others who decided to get into producing electronic music.

 

Participants of the Electronic Music Producer Workshop should bring theyr active small speakers, soundcard, headphones and laptops if they have. We will also provide around 10 working spotsYou will make music in groups and get assistance & lessons for fruity loops, cubase and other software from experienced producers. Pepe from Squaremeat will lead the Workshop! cost 10 euro per person and day. You need tent, sleeping bag, camping gear and some euro for food what cost little extra.There might be some sharerooms available for xtra costs in one of the many houses inside the walls, or you can even find another place somewhere in the village cause many people rent out rooms. Or you just camp on the green grass inside the walls which is included in the 10 euro.

 

The actual official Gathering will be held at a magic location with a creek running by it, starting with the fullmoon on thursday and ending with the Mayan New Years Eve on sunday on 2 stages (Main & Chill out), with crystal clear sound and quiet generators.

 

NO SPECTATORS PLEASE .......PARTICIPANTS ONLY

 

The place will be kept Secret. As we can not announce the locations on the net or on the flyer you must please apply for Invitation by sending an email containing a small introduction/bio of yourself and why you or your Tribe think this gathering is the one you need to be at. also we need to know if you wanna participate on the EMP Workshop as this is limited to 40 ppl capacity..

We hope you understand why we have to do some things different then you are used from Festivals.. We wanna make a difference and unfortunatly its not even possible in another way.. if you have any suggestions, critics or comments.. you are more then welcome to write an email!

funniest description of burningman i've ever heard.

 

first of all, it's the last week of August/first weekend of September.

 

second of all, nobody will stop you from entering if you have a ticket. even if you didn't bring enough water or food. basically, it's up to you to survive in the heat and the cold and the 60 mile-an-hour winds. they do have a helicopter rescue team to take your ass to the hospital if needed.

 

third of all, it's not about trade. It's about participation and gifts. Bring it, build it, so that others would enjoy it. It's like this whole huge psychedelic las vegas for one week in the middle of the nevada desert. 

 

it's really an experiment in a different kind of society. you don't go there just to party, to pay to rip the fruits of other people's labor. you (and everyone) are there to make the party happen. burningman is not a consumer event. that's the main difference between burningman and any other festival.

 

but if you're going for the music, I'd suggest you choose something else. There's a decent amount of psytrance there, but it's not the main genre anymore. You'll hear a lot more breaks and house than psytrance.

haha, wemf is not new (and it stands for World Electronic Music Festival)

 

last year was wemf's 10 year event, and destiny (the production company whoch throws wemf) has been around for 12 years now

 

it's uaully the first weekend in august, over 150 dj's, the psy area usually sucks ass, but at least there is one, and there's usually only 10 people in the room, so there's lots of room to dance....but the djs usually put on a good show when it comes to track array

jewlz have you gone the last few years? I went in 2000 and it was the best party i had ever been to. It must have been a little bigger psy wise then as there was about 200 people in the psy tent and on the main night GMS played live followed by Simon. I imagine the promoters dont have as much money now as then though, oakenfold was the main act in the main area.

 

You might want to check out http://www.gaian-mind.com for the gaian mind fest too. Its held in mid state PA so its probly about 8 hours from toronto.

I missed it last year but Shakta, Scorb and Bluetech played among others. Its held at an insanely cool pagan camp ground too, the main psy stage is in this monolithic stone structure deal. its hard to top the atmosphere. Clothing optional too
