THE ORB - U.F.ORB

1992

ISLAND

1. O.O.B.E.

2. U.F.ORB

3. BLUE ROOM

4. TOWERS OF DUB

5. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

6. MAJESTIC

7. STICKY END

Here is the second album by The Orb and their second best. It was made in 1992 and you can hear not so crispy production but the content is quite content. This kind of spacey, alien ambient trips are throughout the whole album and you have certain alienated feel when listening. There were lots of contributors for this album, to mention Youth as well. But the main brain was Paterson brain. O.O.B.E. or Out Of Body Experience exactly describes that, Astral Projection of soul and it was perfectly made with silent noises, gentle pads and very slow ambient lifting structure. You actually feel like you've been projected while listening to it. U.F.Orb is very spacey, alien track that perfectly goes after soothing O.O.B.E. Blue Room is one of the best on album and this songs as next one Towers Of Dub go more into dubby, driving realms without letting you go. Long, very moving songs that will smack you to the sofa or wherever you are. Next 2 tracks are also extremely long and trippy and that is exactly how can I call this album - trippy ! If you want real ALIEN NOISE, get this ambient perfection, it is only for experienced listeners but I am sure they already own this one...I like all tracks here too...10/10

This is a good release, unbelievable production considering the age. Some nice melodies and the bassline on Towers Of Dub, I've heard it somewhere.. Someone has used the same bassline I'm sure. A real classic!

I don't think so. i listened my first time yesterday and it completely grabbed me. I'm not experienced in this kind of music at all, and you don't need to be! Just pay a little attention and you will see the greatness no matter who you are!

One of the most beautiful albums i've ever heard. Still i've only listened once :)

Hey Seraph, well it sounds interesting on amazon.com. Such short samples unfortunately. Are ya sure it's 1992 cause it says 1994 on amazon. Even amazon can be wrong sometimes. ;) Anyway, I checked it out here:

Dr. Alex my ass. He's got a great line in wacky samples but the defining element of this album is the input of Kris Weston aka Thrash. The Orb were not the same after Thrash left; the guy is an utter genius - if a little unstable according to a mutual friend (who is himself a little unstable!).

This period saw the Orb's finest work and this album itself is an absolute essential purchase.

And yes, July 1992.

This album is trippy as fuck in the ambient parts. The closest music to feeling your in space that ambient music has ever produced IMO. The more upbeat dubby parts are great too. All in all a classic ambient album that needs to be in every electronic lover's collection
