  1. after years of hating that stuff, i've finally — and to my surprise — come to the conclusion that there's a lot more good darkpsy out there than i initially thought. mind you, i still hate the same things that are characteristic of darkpsy (namely the screeching, metallic fm synths and that the bassline and kick often melt into a single low hum without drive and power, also stupidly high bpms that make the kbbb sound childish. in short: anything that sounds even remotely like Highko - Who Has Won). but it seems there's a lot of darkpsy that avoids these for the most part. what i'm looking for is music with crazy fx, atmosphere, storytelling, maybe even melody with a powerful kick that's not drowned out by the bass. so basically i'm looking for tracks like these: Overdream - United Nations Vibrations (great synths, atmospheric not metallic at all, but the kick and bass lack drive), Atriohm - Close to Nowhere (Tengri Remix) (nice kick and bass, atmosphere and even some melody. only the harsh synths appear in the later parts of the track) Mark Day - Us Until The End (similar as above, but it starts out with screechy synths that disappear as the track progresses) Penta - Neurotic Call (all around good track) Soma Rasa - Halava (Tengri Remix) (same) Lunarave - Cannon Fodder (harsh intro but perfect from 2:00 onwards). as far as i understand the forest spectrum of darkpsy is more likely to fit in here?
  2. Hey guys, I've decided to sell my virus ti snow cause it's too digital and wimpy sounding. I want to replace it with one or more of the newer analog synths. Was wondering if you guys have any recommendation for stuff with a really good filter that would be good for the hardware goa sound (for example stuff like Celestial Intelligence)? I am thinking about maybe the MS20 mini or one of the new roland things like the forthcoming SE02. I also saw video of a guy making amazing goa on one of the Dreadbox units. I used to have a prophet 08, but all the dave smith stuff I have owned has had issues and broken so I refuse to buy his stuff anymore. Currently I'm mainly using the nord lead 2, minibrute (it's so meh though), virus rack, virus snow...then for VSTs: LuSH-101, Superwave Ultimate (kind of a JP8000 clone), Superwave Sirius (kind of a MS2000 clone), and Sylenth. So as you can see I really like the 90s VAs but I feel like goa needs a good analog filter. Any recommendations? No old/really expensive/bulky stuff plz
  3. Yes, it's another recommendation topic, but don't switch back. This summer I've picked up some regular exercise, an hour every day. And I need some good music to keep me going. I have my favorite albums, but there's too few of them and I can't listen to the same music too often. So I went forth to explore the various trance genres more in depth. And found out that I don't really like it that much. These are the classics I know AND love AND found very good for workouts: Astral Projection - Amen Aural Planet - Power Liquids Green Nuns OTR - Rock Bitch Mafia Human Blue - Misstarryas Xperience Hallucinogen - The Lone Deranger, Twisted Infected Mushroom - (middle era albums) Converting Vegetarians, Classical Mushroom, I am the supervisor Prometheus - Corridor of Mirrors Juno Reactor - Beyond the Infinitie Raja Ram - Raja Ram's Stashbag vol. 4 Vibraspheree - Archipelago (got to check back at early Vibrasphere albums again) Plus some non-trance: Bachelors of Science - Science Fiction (DnB) Shakatura - Shakatura ZubZub - The powers that beep The albums that were recommended on Discogs as similar but that I didn't really like: Filteria - Sky Input Man With No Name - Moment of Truth MFG - New Kind of World Transwave - Helium Etnica - Alien Protein Total Eclipse - Violent Relaxation, Delta Aquarids X.Dream - Radio Shakta - Silicon Trip Human Blue - all the rest of his trance albums. Some tracks are good and the BBB album sounds similar, but none gives me shivers like the MX. Basically, I don't like these low and high-pitched dead-simple convoluted tunes repeated all over, in exactly the same key and mood, the tense, quirky lurky Goa atmosphere. I dare to claim that the examples above mostly don't suffer from this, They're highly melodic and the mood is different and the melody is in tune with the mood. Some mainstream feel is acceptable. The music is like a progressing story, not just a set of uptempo soundscapes. I have surely stumbled upon Goa gems of great complexity and genius, but I didn't feel like working out when listening to them. At the very least I need something at which I can read. (my machine can hold an ebook-reader) But many of the above uplift me from reading into... blissful trance, which is I guess the point of this music. There must be something ear-friendly, complex and melodic enough, rhythmic, trancey, psychedelic if possible, but not 604-like. It may be dark or light, doesn't matter, just interesting enough. I'll have to check out Chi A.D. - Infinitism, Blue Planet Corporation, Koxbox - The great unknown, Talamasca - Zodiac (yes, I practice astrology for fun), And I also kind of liked Filteria - Daze of our lives. Maybe because the name is funny. But enough about me. What is your workout music? One that either uplifts you from the pain into bliss, or lets you read a book while exercising? Lastly, I apologize for all the Goa Trance fans who's feelings I've rejected.
