1. Hi everybody, This last times, I'm looking for Psybreaks (Breakbeat/Drum&Bass + Psychedelic Trance/Psychedelic Downtempo/Psybient) albums/tracks but this sub-style remains difficult to find. What would you advise? Here is my top: Cybernetika - Solar Nexus Mellow Sonic - Synthetic Intelligence Psychaos - Cause and Effect Xenofish - Datastasis Ra Djan - Anima Fuga Mellow Sonic - Dreamcatcher Xenofish & Mellow Sonic - Enhancer Juno Reactor - Tempest (Cybernetika & Xenofish Remix) Mellow Sonic - Fury V2.0 (Hellbender Theme Remake) Xenofish - The Creation (GITS Tribute) Cybernetika - Colossus Mellow Sonic - Outer Limits
2. Artist: Sundial Aeon Title: Vulcanosis Label: Impact Studio Records Date: March, 2017 1. Startup- Sequence 2. Message From the Parallel World 3. Gintaria 4. Norse Constellations 5. Diamond Trail 6. 5 Ways to Nowhere 7. Lunar Eclipse 8. Characters From the Parallel World 9. Perception of Madness 10. Landscape Transmitter 11. Stratospheric Polar Clouds (Zero Cult Remix) 12. Lunatic Visions (Chronos Remix) 13. Vernal Equinox (Suduaya Remix) 14. Drifting Radio Frequencies (E-Mantra Remix) 15. Blue Flame (Psysutra Remix) I didn't know a lot about this project, suffice it to say that I was aware and that's about it. This is their eighth album and with it they have earned a fan. The music found within is firmly ensconced in the chill-gressive subgenre of downtempo. Sometimes trancey, other times dreamy and lush ambient it has a crystal clear sound that invites you to become lost in their cosmic journey. I don't see any mention that it is mixed, but the tracks flow seamlessly into each other and makes me feel like I"m turning the pages of a book. It really is engaging with wonderful melodic phrases and deep, articulate breaks that can stretch for miles. One of the cool things is the remix portion of the album by some very well known names in our small corner of the universe. This has been on my playlist for awhile and gets better with every listen. One downside? I fail to accomplish things with this on in the background because I'm drawn to it. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen. Beatspace Impact Studio Bandcamp
3. Artist: Kalya Scintilla Title: Dance The Spiral Never Ending Label: Merkaba Music Date: January, 2012 01 - Rises In The East (80 BPM) 02 - Whomp Shanti (85 BPM) 03 - Bone & Stone (70 BPM) 04 - The Sands Of Grime (90 BPM) 05 - Break Belief Bounce (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (100 BPM) 06 - Listen With Your Heart (70 BPM) 07 - Caravan Planet (100 BPM) 08 - Swaggered (104 BPM) 09 - Way Of The Tarot (95 BPM) 10 - The Velvet Squish (70 BPM) 11 - Dance The Spiral Never Ending (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (105 BPM) "I'm all about that bass, bout that bass, no treble!" Get it big guy. Smooches! "Sure I could get up at dawn..." "Go to a job I hate that does not inspire me creatively, for the rest of my life..." "Or I could wake up at noon and learn how to play the sitar." F*ck you Daisy you can have that little mouse d*ck motherf*cker. Take Asian melodies, some oh so juicy bass, and throw in random glitchy electronic swagger and you've got this album. Originally released in 2012 it is now being offered freely by your favorite free music site. I think this guy loves him some weed based on sample usage and track titles. The album itself is a great mix of ethnic acoustic instruments and the ever present wobbly bass. But it's not just bloops and bleeps around a bass line. I mean that's in there, but there are melodies and intricate layers as well. Some of the coolest things I found in here were drum loops from songs you've heard on the radio. The track lengths are also kept fairly short (none reach 6 minutes) to keep the listener from burn out. Pun intended. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
4. Artist: Jayex Album: Soul Echoes Label: Surface Tension Records Release date: July 29, 2018 1.Intro 2. Tribal Shot 3. Hypnotized 4. Spiral Attack 5. Trancedance Mission 6. Soul Echoes 7. No Matter How 8. Switch On The Night 9. Cybrain Worms 10. Beyond Psychedelic Breaks and goa. Is there anything better? Is there? The innocence of childhood? New love? Friendship? All inclusive cruise ships through the Caribbean? Nope to heck with it all. I got what I need right here. So who is jayex? I haven't heard the name, a little digging got me a killer track on 'art from the heart chapter 2' great album BTW. Heřman Hasík is Jayex's real name, if it sounds like it's a name from the dark forests of the Bouzov Micro-region of the Czech Republic to you that is because you have an eye for the truth. Other alias is Smoke Visions. This albums boasts breakbeat goa and psychedelia. Does it deliver? Oh yea, but let's get to that now. Intro: Straight electricity entering the airwaves. Jayex let's us have a very little taste of what's to come. As always it could be longer but does the trick anyway. Tribal Shot: a hot track that gets better and better the deeper in you go. Vocals sit delicately on top of baselines and synths. At 135bpm I'd be happy to play this in a trance or techno set. Although the goa is distinct. Hypnotized: Jayex slows it down another notch with a heavy psychedelic number. Every aspect is super groovy and comes in and out at just the right time. The little offbeat\breakbeat part at the end of each break is really cool too. Love it. Spiral Attack: Sweet sweet intro, better than honey in my morning tea. And then BOOM! Didn't see that coming. At first wasn't a fan. But weird kicks always take me a little time to get used to. Sure enough by the time we reach the main break I'm well adjusted. 4 listens in I love it. Trancedance Mission: In it now with the Goa, or is it Proto? I Don't know I'm 25, which is still old enough to call something good, which this track certainly is. I normally don't go crazy for key changes but here it's not so bad. The song constantly changes direction and intensity with expert fashion, another great track. Soul Echoes: What does the title track have to offer us? How does a slow build into a climax of breakbeat sound to you? Sounds sort of good to me. A shorter track than the others, and honestly I was expecting something to happen after the breakbeat. You can't let the little things bring you down though, still a decent track. No Matter How: Some ocean sounds and spooky synths open the track up for us. Followed by another unexpected track. I thought the bass could have been jacked up a bunch in this track, instead it feels like something other than a track that belongs on this album. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it, but you know, context. Switch On The Night: Another techno'y track which is easy to stomp your feet too. The baseline is super freaky and soon has you lost in it. fairly minimal but what he Jayex uses he uses well. The outro is neat too. Cybrain Worms: The track title is actually pretty apt, this song is the closest representation I can find to cybrain worms. The breakbeat with that heavy baseline and the chanting in the background is just too hot. One of my favourite tracks. Beyond: Time to close the album and what better way to do it than a full Goa trance track. The baseline is funky, the synths are sweet and the overall vibe is just great. On a few extra listens this track and the intro seem to fit together well. Another favourite of mine. Overall I like the album a lot. The ingredients that Jayex uses to create each track he uses just the right amount of, a little paprika here, a little oregano there. The Breakbeat Goa combination is really hot and the slower tracks are anything but boring. I honestly look forward to hearing more from Jayex and think that this album is a blast. I thought the production of tracks 2 and 3 stood out as particularly good. Here is a link. Oh and you can pay as you please. https://surf10rec.bandcamp.com/album/soul-echoes
5. Jayex - Soul Echoes (Surface Tension rec. 2018) Jayex's return to the source. Old-school has got a new hypnotic coat, woven from synthetic swirling thread. Special wide stereo chip implanted and bass add-on granted (note: insufficient data slot for generic carousel audio). Inspired by: Moravian folk music, 90's goatrance, 2000s progressive, breakbeat Bandcamp: https://surf10rec.bandcamp.com/album/soul-echoes Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/spacekirtan/sets/jayex-soul-echoes-album-2018 Czech producer Jayex aka Smoke Visions is a long-standing creature on local Moravian psytrance scene. Summers he is roaming open-airs and during winters he is closed in his studio with cat, old laptop and string decos. This album has taken 4 years to be ready and about 25 years of listening to psychedelic electronic music....
6. Styles almost always circle back and are approached with new gear and sometimes married with other ones, so I was wondering if there's a shortage atm for these or i'm just not looking good enough. Ideas do grow stale so i'm prepared if these are not coming back Thanks in advance my fellow Goa-heads Twilight ala Twisted system or Phatmatix? Theres a wave of new night time coming form South America particularly Mexico but it's not like the good ol' twilight Progressive/minimal ala Beatbizarre Lewd or X-dream? Goa or psy breakbeat like Endora?
7. Artist: Morphonix Title: Off the Grid Label: Vaporvent Date: March, 2008 1. Fur Bot 2. Off the Grid 3. Dig Deep 4. Kismet Kabob 5. Bright Destinations 6. Island Sanctuary 7. Hasp Clasp 8. Fuzz Machine "Can you dig it?" I think you know that I can. This is the same mind behind the psytrance project Chromatone. It's one of my favorite psychill releases and I wonder why he only made one album under this alias. Breakbeat and glitchy it is replete with juicy basses and funk by the trunkload. Dubby basses and well placed transitions abound as he even displays some house-like swagger on Kismet Kabob. The only way this could get better for me is if he incorporated some 303 into it. But then it would be Hardfloor. This isn't music you can zone out too and I would expect nothing less from a guy like Chromatone. The only negative would be that it's no longer sold in the usual go to shops. But if you can find it, I highly recommend purchasing it. Your booty will thank you.

Maiia303 - Electric Particles (Maiia GoaChill Remix) 5. Microcosmos (Instrumental Mix) 6. Fusion Age (Album Mix) 7. Eastern Saloon 8. Strawberry Lassy (Album Mix) 9. The Great Bear (Album Mix) 10. Kurbeats - Phony Phony (Maiia Remix) Yes, very interesting. This is Alla Vagner who should be familiar to all who frequent this forum based on her 2014 release Sky In Diamonds on Ovnimoon Records. It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to hear the organic sound melded with goa trance. Sure it 's been done before, but man did she do it well. She gets right after it with the goa tinged breakbeat track Tale About the Shining Dragon and Natural Energy. I believe that she is the female equivalent to Hardfloor. Funky breakbeats layered with that saucy 303 riding shotgun. It's truly body moving music with eerie tones layered over top. Mysterious at times, but always engaging with plenty of tribal affects. Check out Strawberry Lassy...lots of Shponglese going on there. She keeps the tracks relatively short for maximum freshness. While not as eye opening as Diamonds, it nonetheless doesn't fail to impress. Mystic Sound Records Bandcamp

12. Artist: Schuldt Title: First Error Code Label: Aurinko Records Date: 2003 1. Prologue 2. Stained 3. One Step Closer 4. Search For Salvation 5. Tearing the Fright 6. Constant and Sharp 7. First Error Code 8. Picked To Pieces 9. Traced Back 10. When Anger Cries 11. Deceived 12. Forget?! Is that...? Holy sh*t it is! Picked up a bunch of Cds from Discogs and this was one of them. It's an album by Tim Schuldt (actually it's an industrial project he founded) and it was cheap so I said what the hell? He was always on the fringes of psytrance with dark and edgy productions, but with this album he goes full industrial with his band and it is aggressive. The whole thing is dark with a futuristic feel. Looking at those track titles will make you think they needed more hugs from Daddy. When you hear it you'll think of artists like NIN, Skinny Puppy, Pig...But it's not just ballistic, all out sonic mayhem. Tracks like Search For Salvation really channel Front Line Assembly with it's dark, thematic overtones yet easily accessible melody. Even the bruising Tearing the Fright is a drum n bass track with eerie breaks and touches to make it heavy and light. He uses breakbeats to great effectiveness and even though I'm not a big fan of the screechy vocals often found in industrial, the musicality of it was so good that it had me wanting to find some Doc Martens and create some general anarchy! Gotta say a little something about the final track Forget. Starts off with a Korn-esque smooth break beat and has a lounge feel. It's over in 7 minutes, but contains 5 minutes of silence before it has a last industrial gasp. I hate that sh*t. Just make an epic dark ambient closer. Last track aside this is a great listen when you're tired of the triplets and common sh*t found in psytrance or goa. Great combination of psy, industrial, breakbeat, and yes guitar trance. Some of it is too heavy and noisy, but not a lot of it. Perfect for breaking stuff! Good work Mr. Miyagi

14. Artist: Human Error Title: The DNA is DOA Label: CRL Studios Date: April, 2012 1. Population 0 2. The DNA is DOA 3. Overrun 4. Inevitable 5. Hopeless Utopia (c0ma Remix) 6. Satcom 410-NE (Tokee Remix) 7. Hopeless Utopia (Dyskhord Remix) 8. Satcom 410-NE (Lucidstatic Remix) 9. Finite (Pandora's Black Book Remix) "Once you actually start to look around...you start to wonder if you'd be doing society a favor by getting rid of all these people." Ok the Donald Trump hordes are getting out of control. Please know that this is a very vocal minority of people that follow this douche pickle. Imagine a not so distant future where the basic normalcy of life has been disrupted. Where democracy has ceased to exist and man has reverted to his more tribal instincts. Technology has evolved, but not all are privy to it and everywhere are faded and crumbling monoliths to our past greatness. Not prospering. Just surviving. Pretty much every post apocalyptic movie ever made. May I introduce you to its very bleak soundtrack. Human Error is Tom Box from the UK and he has created quite the atmosphere full of futuristic melancholy. He explores all areas of downtempo with breakbeats, dark ambient, and industrial glitch. It flows from still quiet to aggressive menace all while carrying its sense of dread like a scar. Worth a listen surely and it's one of those name your price digital albums. But I'll warn you the latter part leans heavily towards the industrial side of things. Human Error Bandcamp

17. Artist: Various Title: Siesta Label: Phonokol Date: October, 2002 1. Earthling - Chill or Be Chilled 2. Water Spirits - Jah Feedback 3. Earthling - Helix 4. Spacedrifters - Reverse (Vocal Version) 5. Orion Vs. Alien Project - Cryptic Aliens 6. Earthling - Kilamanjaro 7. Earthling Vs. Alien Project - Fantasy Island 8. Etnica - Trip Tonite (Playa Mix) 9. Alien Project Vs. Astrix - Crystal Skulls (Long Version) 10. Logic Bomb - Normalised I'm gonna go on record here and say this was one of the best things Ari Linker (Alien Project) was involved with. Smooth downtempo tracks with laid back grooves. Earthling or Alien Project are on most of the tracks which are full of deep bass. Some of the beats are grimy, but they all have a floaty feeling. The samples speak of alien landings and government coverups. Unlike other downtempo comps this one ends with two upbeat numbers heavy on the psychedelia. To be honest it's kind of dark with melodies that can make you think about past decisions. The only one I didn't care for was Kilimanjaro which broke the flow of the album. Otherwise this is really good stuff. Mdk
18. Artist: Easily Embarrassed Title: Tales of the Coin Spinner Label: EE Records Date: August, 2011 01 - The Truth (66 BPM) 02 - Blessed Day On Distorted Shape (79 BPM) 03 - Sylphesizer (100 BPM) 04 - The Coin Spinner (60 BPM) 05 - Moon People (70 BPM) 06 - The Old Ways (100 BPM) 07 - Little Match Sister (97 BPM) 08 - Triplets (95 BPM) 09 - Nothing But Spirit (82 BPM) 10 - Under The Jester's Hat (58 BPM) Before Jon Stewart was making fun of politics and the media he had a bit part in the Dave Chapelle vehicle Half Baked where he said, "Yeah, but have you seen it...on weed?" That stuck with me because that's how I used to be. I was that guy. Event Horizon was a great movie, but on weed? It scared the sh*t outta me. Silence of the Lambs? I thought I would suffocate because I couldn't catch my breath. It seemed like the infrared scene was an hour and a half long. Hell I even stood up in the movie theater during Alien Resurrection. Yeah, not one of my proudest moments. Like Rick James said, it's a helluva drug. Point is that's how I would watch all my movies. But you know...I got kids. Besides I was also the paranoid guy who swore the chick at Applebees knew I was high. What gave it away, the smell or the fact I had to point to the picture on the menu because I couldn't speak? So wasted. Don't do drugs kids. All roads lead to drinking out of a urinal. This is Jeffrey van der Schilden, Nick van der Schilden, and Peter Spaargaren with another free offering. Guys love making music and giving it away. This is their 3rd full length album and it is wonderful. The journey they take you on is a combination of the analog warmth of Jean Michel-Jarre and the celestial atmosphere of Vangelis. It's viewing the glare of a stare from an enormous window of a starship. Of Androids walking among us like it was the most natural thing in the world. Of the old man spinning coins describing a world the way it used to be. Futuristic samples stretch out between wavering choir pads and Vangelic synth runs. Ambient laments and breakbeats that harken back to the days when Crystal Method knew what the f*ck they were doing. Somehow they manage to work a reggae style beat in there and it doesn't seem the least bit out of place. The title track with its acoustic guitar melody is a melancholic short story of regret. Most of the melodies are of that type...and they do a great job mixing real and electronic elements with a lush cinematic scope. Nowhere is that more evident than in Moon People with its crawling eerieness that should make you a little...uncomfortable. An awesome trip through space that I cannot recommend highly enough. The fact that it's free is just icing on the cake. Good show boys! Ektoplazm Mdk

21. This EP has been in the works for a few years, but never released, due to the seasonal nature of the content. However, I have recently re-themed the entire set (created with Reason 4 and Abelton Live 8.1) along the lines of Lovecraftian terror-tales, many of which were inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, whose work is featured in the first track. While these tracks are unmixed, they are in a particular order, representing part of an Ableton Live set which began as part of a soundtrack for a Halloween-themed circus/arial show produced by some of my friends in Arcata, CA. Please enjoy, download, share and comment! Your feedback is greatly appreciated! link: http://soundcloud.co...ts/halloween-ep player: <iframe width="100%" height="450" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="http://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Fplaylists%2F2680749&auto_play=false&show_artwork=true&color=ff7700"></iframe>
22. Artist: Maharishi Title: Sense of a Feather Label: Ouim.net & Space Baby Records Date: December, 2011 01 - Bhuvana (Intro) (105 BPM) 02 - Shadowland (feat. Extatic) (80 BPM) 03 - Liquid Trip (105 BPM) 04 - Satori (Punarjanma) (115 BPM) 05 - Maharani Deva (90 BPM) 06 - Angelic Tears (96 BPM) 07 - Call Of The Ancients (95 BPM) 08 - Satori II (Gourishankar) (110 BPM) 09 - Balance On The Edge (The Eagle Feather) (98 BPM) 10 - Satori III (Anapurna - Nirvana) (96 BPM) I don't think this is the guy. I mean it could be, but he seems more the type to be confused by the intricacies of a push button phone than mastering his pirated copy of Cubase. Remember the boy maharishi in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom? Don't think it was him either. Digging into this rusty filing cabinet that is my brain (give me a break, maid doesn't come till Tuesday...yeah you'll wanna not step in that) I can recall that littly guy was a mean SOB who came to a gruesome end. So...ghosts have trouble with software. Believe me I know, every spook from the Ghost Whisperer has been dropping demos on my desk. Do I look like Mars or Anoebis? No deal! Well, unless I can get a crack at 1990's JLH. Sure her football shaped pimento olive head couldn't seem to stay upright, but miracles were worked with that push up bra. Oooof! You know what? Scratch that. Any chick that has already purchased her own engagement ring is way more maintenence than I want to take on. Get with her and all of a sudden after sex it's 72 questions about what I'm thinking and why I can't understand her anger that I didn't remember our 2 and a half week anniversary. Newsflash honey, I was blinded by your sweater puppies and now if it's not too much to ask I'd like for you to turn into a pizza. Those five minutes of energy ain't gonna regenerate itself. What were we talking about? Oh, excuse me I do sometimes tend to ramble. This is Borislav Lazarov who was kind enough to give us this album for free. The tracks originate from 2005-2011, kinda like a compilation of his work. Bhuvana (Intro)- Birds, crickets, sloshing water...I feel like I'm in a psychiatrist's office and he's gonna ask me about my mother. Then the bass line rolls in and at first it doesn't seem to fit. After the beat kicks in with some soft melodies I'm thinking maybe this forest isn't all Disney, but maybe a little Sleepy Hollow. Not the gay one, the Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci "do you think me wicked" one. Shadowland- Webster knows the score! It's breakbeat goodness at a slow gangsta pace that lulls you right into your hypnotic cocoon. That ethnic guitar fits perfectly into the mix. Liquid Trip- Progressive leanings with a very long pad that pitches up and down. Nothing really happens and I think that's what drones you into a trip, but it's like when I would get high with my friends. Is everyone as f*cked up as me? This is how I'm supposed to feel...right? Why are you staring at me? "Dude, you are really f*cked up." Satori (Punarjanma)- Wailing sounds and skittering effects make it seem like you're walking down a dimly light corridor. It's got some percussion that's not too heavy, but full of motion. Very dreamlike with rapid fire guitar notes so I'm liking it, but I think it went on too long. 11 minutes. I coulda banged JLH twice in that amount of time. Maharani Deva- We are treated to more dark pads and a space vibe. Plodding along with peculiar percussion it's another track that lends itself to dreaming. Eerie for sure with the pianos playing against the liquid bass. Nice. Angelic Tears- See this is where he shines for me. A breakbeat with eerie melodies that wouldn't be out of place on a hip-hop album. It's dark and menacing and makes me want to do bad things to good people. Well, not me. But this guy... Call of the Ancients- That screechy lead took a filter bath at two and a half minutes and I...just...love it! You can't have a call to the ancients without a, you know...call. And there is one. I see a woman twirling (naked of course) in the center of the tribe like the film was sped up. Lightning quick synth riffs have me looking skyward and this is a race to the end. Not my favorite, but it definitely involves you. Satori II (Gourishankar)- Probably the most layered track here, it is full of dark melodies and futuristic effects. He uses that machine gun style again as the breakbeat bounces along. Very good track. Balance On the Edge (Eagle Feather)- Everything comes together on this one. Mid tempo rhythms and frantic synth races join a well placed sample to give it a spiritual feel. Also well layered thickening things up. Satori III (Anapurna - Nirvana)- With the final track at over 10 minutes, it could go either way. The beginning is a soft intro for about a minute or so, and then it gets hit with the funk stick for a dirty breakbeat. More layers and more melancholy, with piano slams like Depeche Mode. Super. The beat was so strong and the synths so involving I didn't even mind the long Indian sample. Very airy and floaty. I hope to hear more from this individual. He had some great breakbeats and synth work as his music leans towards the dark side. The fact that it's free is just icing on the cake. Ektoplazm Mdk
23. Artist: Jens Buchert Title: Interstellar Label: Plusquam Records Date: November, 2011 1. Silkstream 2. The Vortex 3. Venus Nights 4. Helios 5. Spaceglider 6. Causality 7. Echospheres 8. Fluffy Time 9. Never Ending 10. Phoenix Sleeping 11. Swift 12. Interstellar 13. Sleepwalker 14. Parabolic 15. Amour Noblesse 16. Endless Dark I had to check this out just because the cover. I had never heard of Jens Buchert even though he has like...12 albums or something. The cover has a robot and I like robots. Hollywood has long waged a smear campaign against these mechanical creatures painting them as evil beings. And let's be honest...we're not quite at the technological level that movies would have us believe. We must act quickly before the Terminator gives us all diabetes and high blood pressure. like middle aged Japanese aren't already stereotyped for their wooden personalities. Which one's the robot? That is some creepy sh*t. I can see this guy bringing a chick home (no I can't) and in his mind thinking she would be enamored of his brilliance by dropping her fear soaked panties in submission. Sick f*ck. This is what all the nerds are worried about? So the defense against a highly sophisticated multi-million dollar defense project is to...run upstairs? Silkstream- Warm machinery hums as I stand on the observation deck and view a starship exiting the docking bay. It is the human race's last hope as the search for water takes a bold new step. Rich floating pads and futuristic effects make this a great piece of space ambient. The Vortex- That's a pretty big beat you've got there young man. I'ts what I would be pumping in my land speeder if I rolled through the cantina neighborhood. "This isn't the beat you're looking for." There is a spacey feel that is balanced with some nice flute. Wailing pads give it a melancholic feel. Superb! Venus Nights- I like the strings, but the breakbeat puts it over the top. Good stuff. Helios- Can't get over the warmth of these tracks. Is that Na'avi? Either that or Portuguese. With unraveling electronics and funky drummings this is a nice treat. It's chill and multi-layered. Spaceglider- "The reward of faith is to see what you believe. While there is life, there is hope. While we breathe, we shall defend. The lord is my light." Yeah, that's great and all, but I could really get into the music if you would shut the f*ck up. And that's what ruins it for me. Musically this is so appealing, but that sample interrupts my dream like Stacy did when that kid was holed up in the bathroom trying to rub one out to her mom. Holy sh*t Causality- Loungey raise your martini glasses where everything in the room is white and chrome. Electric piano chords and warm pads are what's on tap. Cooler than a Diddy linen party I didn't kill Big. No, really I didn't. Echospheres- Slow, jazzy, gangsta strutting. Although it does sound like a lovemaking scene in a bad movie with that distant horn blaring. Are you guys old enough to remember staying up late at grandpa's house because he had cable complete with the soft blurry focus that Skinimax is notorious for? No? Just me then? Never got to see anything good anyway. Just enough to get you excited and start looking at your cousin that is only a cousin by marriage. Let me make that perfectly clear. Not blood related. I would imagine that's how it would go. Fluffy Time- He does this a lot using far off sounds that promote introspection. Also gives the track some largesse. The break is smooth and allows a synth to peek in. Bright and sunny. Never Ending- More space lounge that seems to sample the Bee Gees. And that's cool, I liked the Bee Gees. The female vocal drips of cool with a vocoder effect. Wait...she's an android? I, uh...I knew that. *quickly puts flowers and box of chocolates in trash* Phoenix Sleeping- This is more space ambient with grainy communication samples of the moon landing. Melodic and beautiful. Swift- Sparkling synths, warm pads, and a glitchy rhythm set let you lean back in your Dorito crumb infested La-Z-Boy and immerse yourself in the layers. Cool acoustic guitar riffs give it a jazzy feel. Tasty! Interstellar- Having fun with a speak and spell. It's groovy and futuristic if you ignore the African chant, but somehow he makes it fit. Hey if we're 1000 years in the future ya think Africa is just gonna disappear? Don't think so. Why you gotta hate on the Dark Continent? Racist. Sleepwalker- With all the dubby lounge going on you should have your PhD in smooth by now. So beautifully textured it makes me feel like I'm floating in a bubble at normal speed whilst all my surroundings are in slow motion. Parabolic- Slow like I'm doing a moon walk No, not that one. It crawls along with pads and assorted twinklings. Relaxing to say the least. Amour Noblesse- I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good this music is. 16 tracks will do that to you. This dubby breakbeat tune has me dreaming of a beach vacation. Endless Dark- The ambient outro brings the space back into the equation. Runnng lights help me guide the ship back into the docking bay. The grim faces of the remaining crew tell you all you need to know. Really enjoyed this. He is very good with breakbeats and layered synths. I definitely recommend it for those that enjoy downtempo with a loungey space themed flair. There are 16 tracks so they are the perfect length to digest. Beatspace Psyshop Goastore Mdk
24. Artist: Various Title: Ambrosia Label: Ultimae Records Date: November, 2011 1. Sub Strat MAX MILLION AND GUSK 2. Light Tails MIKTEK 3. Distant Industries ONE ARC DEGREE 4. Principles of Gravity AES DANA 5. Homo Imperceptibilis SYGNALS 6. Sun Ritual SESEN 7. Hyades ALPHA TEK 8. V.A.N.T.A ASURA 9. Why MEMPHIDOS 10. Ominous Ride MIKTEK Ultimae. Nuff said? Sub Stata- Love that breakbeat they open up with. That sh*t is gritty. Which of course is the perfect yin to the yang of all the layers in this pig. Strumming guitar, pads that reach from horizon to horizon, and a memorable lead melody make this an ideal opener. Full...so full. . I would breast feed until I was 70. Light Tails- This track is aptly named because sparkling synths float behind the ever present churning bass. It's slow and drifting. There is a hypnotizing quality about it like how some spiders mesmerize their prey or Dave Chapelle does battle with Gochira... So hypnotic.... Distant Industries- One Arc Degree delivers a massive track with a big breakbeat and shimmering leads that become more distorted as they're filtered. People are talking in the background and I gotta wonder if he recorded this in a coffee shop. Hey, shut the f*ck up, I'm just here to get my danish. It doesn't impact the track thankfully, but with nice layering and flow it is very pleasing. It has floating qualities with vocal harmony and even a slight operatic riff. Principles of Gravity- Soft choir, stuttering synths, and the classic click and pop percussion and you know you are listening to an Aes Dana track. It's mid-tempo with pads ruling the atmosphere as it echoes with breakbeats. The choir gives it an overcast Propehecy feel where Christopher Walken does battle with the good angels. Moody sumb*tch. Homo Imperceptibilis- "You have 48 hours. That's the length of time it needs to adapt itself to our living conditions. Then it will be too late." The piano arpeggio is the focus as the effects and beat crowd around. Once that's gone, it's whizzing and whirring rivulets of electronica as the bass wobbles. The break has some cool percussive sounds and then it gains mid tempo status with a cello that sounds like Rena Jones is in the house. Long track that has a lot of phases so a good amount to chew on. Sun Ritual- Dawn breaking over the Himalayas perhaps? What began as a party of 5 is now whittled down to 3. Quite the mysterious intro at 20,000 feet. No beat until almost 3 minutes and it was worth the wait. It's a cross between hip-hop funky and soaring pads that leave you without oxygen. There is so many little touches here that they all add up to brilliance. It's unbelievable. There is talent and then there's, uh...talent. Yes, yes, that's really impressive. Hey fatty, when was the last time you saw your penis? Hyades- How do you follow up a brilliant track? With another one my dear Watson. This bubbles and meanders like a snake on the hunt for that dumb mouse who didn't see the writing on the wall. It's stand offish with attitude, bass growls and layers drip with atmosphere. This is the darkest track that oozes malevolence. Annnnnnnnd.....I crapped myself. V.A.N.T.A.- Am I the only one who starts singing the FANTA commercial when I see this track name? I am aren't I? Besides Aes Dana, this is the only other artist that I am familiar with. After all the great tracks from the "newbies" I never thought I would have to wonder if Asura could keep up. Well, I'm afraid he was outclassed on this one. I thought it was going to be a classic becuase the first 4 minutes are awesome downtempo with chopped up chants and deep pads, but I don't think it could run with the complexity of previous tracks here. Whereas the beginning was all dark mood, the melody is light and doesn't fit for me. Still good? Yes, of course. Why- With the brightest track on the compilation Memphidos proves that sunshine always follows the rain. It's a break beat with dream sequence synths. I was diggin' on the beat too. Real thumping. Nice, but I think it's misplaced on this compilation. It's like inviting a vegan to a barbecue. Yeah, nobody wants to stare, but we're wondering why the f*ck you didn't bring any carcass to the party. Ominous Ride- Miktek with another go and he's going crazy with the rain stick. But thankfully it's back to the dreary after that previous bright hiccup. Slowly evolving with pads and a sad piano melody pretty much descirbes this final effort. The story closes as the hero stares off into an uncertain future. This was really dark. Not dark in a satanic or get me the hell out of this forest way. More in a gloomy are we ever gonna see the sun again way. Composed mainly of Greek artists it's ironic that a land known for it's beautiful sunshine can deliver such moody and dark music. And I loved it. I believe all will agree that too much happy sunshine music is just as annoying as too much heavy dark stuff. This was wonderful and I have come to expect nothing less from Ultimae. Layer intensive, great effects and atmosphere, with a varied set of rhythms. Some artists you know and some you probably don't. Comgatulations to Fishimself for compiling, Mr. Vilius for the mastering, and the artists for their great work. Do not hesitate to get this if you like your chill on the darker side of things. I don't think I'm telling tales out of school by suggesting this could be downtempo album of the year. Psyshop Beatspace GoaStore Mdk
25. Artist: Erode Title: Horizon Label: Tympanik Audio Date: July, 2011 1. 10950 2. Detect 3. Approach 4. Horizon 5. Overcome 6. Wither 7. - 8. Annoy 9. Disengage 10. Horizon (Kadrage Remix) 11. Brutal Romance (Erode Remix) - Deadlock This one goes out to Ivan because he likes Death Metal. And I'm afraid of it. I cannot recall how I came to know about this release, but here it is. This is Alexander Dietz and he used to be (is he still in it? Somehow I let my subscription to Kerrang lapse.) in a German metal band called Heaven Shall Burn. How uplifting and holy. Well now he shows his...umm, softer side I guess and presents us with his debut electronic album. It's filled with droning pads, repeated chords full of ambience as well as crunchy percussion. Most of it is downtempo and all of it sounds like the beautiful cover art looks. Done by Colin Marks of Rain Sound Design. Just thought I would give him a plug since he did such a great job. It's cloudy day music with an industrial bent as well as some haunting melodies. You can tell it was made by a guy who was into metal with the angry/dark track titles. But the music vassilates between pensive downtempo and outright rage with a remix of a Deadlock track at the end complete with the industrial screams that remind me a lot of FLA. Standouts? Well, I liked the track Wither with its soft pads and at times chaotic percussion. Gave me a feel of post apocalyptic regret. The interlude (-? What the f*ck is up with that title? That's what you came up with? How about...I dunno, B*tch gave me herpes or something.) sounded nice in its simplicity and the electronic scraping of Annoy was backed by a beautiful pad set that devolved into a drum n' bass hum. Pretty cool. Disengage had a nice soft synth pad before it devolved into a glitchy rhythm set. While not very deep it does stay within the confines of it's dark and mysterious theme. I say good for him for stepping outside his comfort zone and trying something different. I hope he continues in this vein as I would love to see how his music evolves. Not the metal though. I don't need my music screaming at me. I have a wife for that. You can get it here. Mdk
