  1. Artist: Amithaba Buddha Title: Angels Trumpets Label: Submoon Records Date: September, 2015 1. Angels Trumpets (Discipline Mix) 2. Ten Thousand Buddhas 3. Manuscript (Free Spirit Mix) 4. Celestine Rhythm (Book of Job Mix) 5. Angels Walk Among Us (Forest Mix) 6. Electric Indigo 7. Stay Wild Moon Child How do you do this again? It's been a while. Funny I just mentioned to Ivan that I've taken a break from psy music and here I am cobbling a review together. You know life happens and it can be hard to find the time to craft a review. The artists definitely deserve it, but the struggle is real people. Perhaps I've written so many of them and there is nothing left to say. To me it's just album art and kick drums at this point. This is the latest album from polarizing artist Filipe Santos and he has a definite style that is instantly recognizable. High tempo, layer intensive, melodic, danceable music. With this being the third under the moniker Amithaba Buddha I can't say it sounds any different than Goa Gate or Myself In The Mirror. But that's because after all these years of listening to goa it has begun to run together for me. Not just his, but all goa music. Look he has a formula and he follows it to a tee. The music (as always) is great, but after you get through the up and down with the scales and the head nodding rhythms what else is there? And to say that the 7 tracks bear a very strong resemblance to each other is like figuring out water is wet. Don't get me wrong, as a collector and fan of goa music I'm glad I bought this and will recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Filipe's style. But...blah, blah, blah...Goa Gate II...super talented and prolific... Perhaps I've reached burnout stage, but I think a revolution is in order. Submoon Bandcamp
  2. Submoon Records presents the new Filipe Santos Amithaba Buddha album , titled Angels Trumpets . https://submoonrecords.bandcamp.com/album/angels-trumpets https://www.facebook.com/submoonrecords
  3. Artist: Mana Source (Filipe Santos) Title: Kanji EP Label: Submoon Records Date: March, 2015 1. Bonsai 2. Shinto 3. Ninja 4. Reiki 5. Kanji 6. Okami Dude is clearly a wizard. And a machine. A mechanized wizard with f*cking super goa powers. Whatever pseudonym he operates under (and he has many) he makes booming, twisting, goa trance that destroys dancefloors. His erratic behavior that has been well documented on these forums is the only negative which has kept him from assuming his rightful position as ruler of the goa kingdom. I don't think it's any secret that he has been suffering for a long time and perhaps that's the reason for his attitude and mood swings. Certainly his talent and ability have never been in question. This is more of what he does best. Layered melodic goa trance with an edge. Melodies twist and turn as it flows very well. Good driving music I can tell you. I realize this sounds like a Psyshop promo (minus the sketchy English), but he continues to impress. I believe if he punched me in the stomach the music is so good that I might say, "OK, you earned that one." Alas, Submoon is no more, but it has been reincarnated in the form of Good Dance Recordings. This is where you will find it digitally. I am unsure if there are any further physical copies. But whoever is behind that profile here at Psynews is becoming a presence and I'm sure will respond to your queries. Good Dance Recordings (digital)
  4. Artist: Various (It's Filipe) Title: Oriental Accidentalists Label: Sumboon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Chynacid - Tianlong 2. The Lost Buddha - Astral Projection 3. The Lost Buddha - Spiritual Justice 4. Mana Source - Karmaggedon 5. Mana Source - Moon Minerium 6. Realm 9 - Mercury 7. Space Sinbad - Heart of Kali 8. Space Sinbad - Eyes of Osiris 9. The Lost Buddha - Ice of Ancients 10. Ketoret - Conceived 11. Gankyil - Nyorai DAMN!!!!! I'm more convinced than ever that you are less a human being and actually a bot that produces kick ass goa trance at pre-determined intervals. It's one thing to be prolific (that you are Filipe), but to maintain this level of quality is just unheard of. Track after track of just blistering goa trance. If I had to hunt for a negative it would be that your tracks follow the same pattern and can sound very similar. You don't tell stories you decimate dance floors. And make goa trancers like me fall down from excessive twirling. But when the music is this good, you just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going. The style is typical aggressive and growly goa trance and picking a favorite is like choosing which color M&M is better. They are all top notch stuff. Now for the consumer your should know that some of these beauties have been released before. Tianlong on the Tofu EP, Missionary on the Missionary and Conceived EP, and the Lost Buddha and Mana Source tracks also have digital EPs. Now as he is prone to do, Filipe opens a label and closes it sometimes pretty quickly. Only to start a whole new one. Submoon Records offered this as a CD-r, but as of this typing Submoon Records is no more. He's moved on to Good Dance Recordings, but I cannot find this or any of his earlier releases on that label. So I don't know where you would get this today. But this is how you do it. Let the music do all the talking. And this album is saying volumes.
  5. Artist: Various (though it's really Filipe Santos and Christina which I believe to be his wife) Title: Amaterasu Label: Submoon Records Date: May, 2015 1. Gankyil - Temujin 2. Amen Re - Resyche 3. Jonni Dongju - Li-on Sahvanne 4. Shousan - Shousan 5. Tanzaku - Tanabata 6. Mana Source - Samurai 7. Uchiwa - Godai 8. Gankyil - Dhyani C'mon, are these even real people? Jonni Dongju? Someone was balls deep in some quality porn viewing. You know at this point I couldn't care less. Unless you've lived under a rock Submoon Records is the new baby of Filipe Santos and these tracks sit squarely in his wheelhouse. Big beats with layers of goa melody trickling over each other vying for attention. And damnit I love it. It's excellent. Standout moment? On Li-On Savanne where he's channeling his inner Bypass Unit and that bubbling 303 creates a magical feeling. Almost reached for a cigarette. People are going to be in two camps when it comes to Filipe and his endless projects. Either they hate him and won't give his music the time of day due to past...ugliness or they'll take the music at face value and have a great f*cking time. I chose the latter (probably because he has never directed his rage in my direction). His talent cannot be questioned when it comes to making goa trance. This "compilation" is full of fast paced energetic goa trance. Melodies swirl and force the listener into involuntary twirling. There's no suspense or build up. He knows one way and one way only here and he attempts to cram it down your throat. And by God you will reach Goa Nirvana! There is a lot of drama surrounding Mr. Santos, but that is not my concern. If you hate the guy then you probably aren't reading this anyway. My job as a reviewer is to listen to the music and give my opinion. It's up to the reader whether they want to fork over their hard earned cash for these tunes. Musically this is an excellent addition any goa collection. Yes it's a CD-r, but so was Goa Gate and have you seen how much people wanted to shake you down for that? Not gonna be me son. Submoon Bandcamp
  6. Artist: Kunai Title: Ascendancy Label: Submoon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Himalayas 2. Mandarin 3. Origami 4. Mahjong 5. Ascendancy 6. Wushu 7. Tranquility Another Filipe Santos project? You betcha! I've lost count of how many he has, but this is his first release under the name of Kunai. And he does something that I hoped he would and that is deliver a different style of goa. This CD-r has tracks that exhibit a more laid back feel. Pumping up tempo, yet not aggressive. The sound is good and instead of pounding you into submission it's a gentler "lengthening" of melodies that still retains that sense of depth and exotic atmosphere. Not a lot of changes and not a lot of melodies thrown into the mix, but a gradual unfolding. The difference in the style here is instantly appreciated and while I love his signature sound he navigates this other approach with skill. Recommended for those that would like their goa with a relaxed flair. Love that cover btw...
  7. Artist: Particle-X Title: Ion Space Label: Submoon Records Date: July, 2015 1. Atomic Light 2. Eden Evolution 3. Future Unwritten 4. Solar Zone 5. Ion Space 6. Magma Wave 7. Goa For Happiness 8. Passage To Blue Heeeeeeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaaack! Kinda looks like him a little doesn't it? Filipe Santos is an artist that generates strong feelings and as many opinions as his artist names. Some hate him, some love him, some don't care. After a long absence the newly married Filipe is the driving force behind Submoon Records and this guy hasn't missed a beat. I mean that literally and figuratively. With all that time away it seems he has been uber productive with so many simultaneous releases that exploded onto the scene. Particle-X is another of his projects and while the names may change (I can't tell most of them apart) the quality of the goa trance does not. Super high energy goa with acid from here to Timbuktu. This should be dance floor approved and with all the layered melodies he is known for you cannot help but move. It's just one power track after another on this Cd-r and maybe they do sound the same after a while, but whew...I'll take it. His leads are screechy beasts as bass lines cycle tirelessly underneath. I didn't care for the happiness track, but that's because I like it dark. This was Taffyta Muttonfudge sweet. You heard me. The album starts off really strong and gradually becomes less heavy, maybe more uplifting and...shiny? No matter where you stand on the Filipe issue, I have to say that the quality of the goa music scene is better with him in it. He is one of the best music producers our little corner of the music universe has seen in a long time. I hope he doesn't ever say another word on this forum. He doesn't have to. The music speaks volumes. Submoon Records
  8. Artist: Filipe Santos Title: Goa - The New Generation Label: Submoon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Psydonym - Venusians 2. Beast303 - Beast 303 3. Liquid Jungle - High Toxicity 4. Mind Reset - Parasite Eve 5. Resistrance - Hypnolab 9 6. Sylica-X - Re-Search 7. Kunai - Ascendancy 8. Rainbow Islands - Sevens Heavens In an effort to be enshrined into the Guinness Book of World Records as the artist with the most aliases Filipe Santos returns to the goa scene and promptly reclaims territory. Kinda. All of these projects are Filipe so don't try to infringe on his copyrights. I know this because it says so on the inside cover. What I don't know is if these tracks are part of the "new" generation. And can it be a new generation when it's just one guy? Several (Beast303 - 2010, High Toxicity -2011, Re-Search -2012) have been released before when Filipe ran the acid/goa label Acid Chemical Plant Records. Although to be accurate and give Imba a shoutout, the Beast303 EP was released on Underground Alien Factory. We clear? So it's unknown whether he made these tracks awhile ago and just left them on the old hard drive. What is known is that the style of Filipe is well represented with driving rhythms and layers of those delicious goa sounds. As expected he incorporates the acid in several of the tracks, but they all have ripping leads and that attitude that the creator must carry with him. Love him, hate him, ignore him, acknowledge him, this guy is prolific and prolific with consistent quality. Some of the greatest artists of our time have also been the most troubled. Allow me to make an assumption based solely on an avatar. Perhaps Filipe has found inspiration and focus with his wife/girlfriend and new baby. All the other nonsense (justified or not) is background noise. Right now he is making some big boy noise. And this isn't even the best of his most recent output. Stay tuned.
  9. Artist: Amithaba Buddha Title: Goa Gate Remastered Label: Submoon Records Date: September, 2015 1. Goa Gate 2. Sarcophagus 3. Three Eyes 4. Secret of an Amulet 5. Sending Love and Light 6. Transphinx 7. Organic Humanoids 2 8. Water Goddess 9. Guardian of the Gate Two games into the NFL season and my team has taken on this identity. As a reviewer I have to absorb the music and its presentation without judgement or prejudice. Sometimes it's hard to do. I have internet friends who send me copies of their work and ask me to review it. It's great until I listen to it and it turns out to be a dumpster fire. But I write them for two reasons. One I enjoy doing it and two if I can shed some light on a release that you may not have been aware of. If the review is funny and you get a chuckle then everybody wins. Amithaba Buddha is one of the many projects of Filipe Santos and this is someone who has a history with Psynews. Not all of it pleasant. So what I decided to do was to list the reasons why you wouldn't like this and then supply a counter argument of why you might want to give it a chance. "It's Filipe. He says mean things, is schizophrenic, and is probably on drugs." Really? Maybe, but people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I'm far from perfect and have done and said some things that I'm not proud of. We've all done that. However, this is about the music. Remove all other distractions and focus on the music. Kanye West seems like a dick, but I was rocking Gold Digger just like everyone else. "It's a CD-R. In a few years it's gonna melt and not be worth what I paid for it." One, I don't know if that is actually true. Two, the original Goa Gate was made 7 years ago and that CD-R is fine. Besides most of us rip that sh*t to a computer anyway. "It's basically the same track and sounds repeated nine times." I disagree, but at least I can understand this complaint. The album does follow a similar vein, but that vein is power and multiple layers of twirling goa goodness. It does get samey, but it's so good! The sound is rich with melodies that crawl from deep hiding places to take their rightful place in the sun. I find it impossible to listen to this and not dance like nobody is watching. Which is untrue cause my kids are always watching and then they tell Mommy and everyone has a good laugh at my expense. Ha f*cking ha. My point is this...love him or hate him you cannot deny his talent. I don't know him and unless you've been sitting next to him for the last 10 years you don't either. I don't deny his behavior has been perplexing and mean spirited at times on the forum. I don't begin to understand it and I damn sure ain't excusing it. Hell some artists might need that conflict and turmoil to make their art. But like I said in the beginning you have to listen to the music with blinders on. Filipe has been at this a long time and I would venture to say that if you didn't know who the artist was and looked at his catalog of work you wouldn't hesitate to put him up there with the greats of all time. This album is everything you could ask for and I am pleased that I have my copy. The fact I'm not getting extorted by the Discogs mafia is just a bonus. Goa Gate? Two thumbs way f*cking up. Submoon Bandcamp
