  1. Artist: Material Music Title: DNA Label: Goa Records Date: June 4, 2018 Tracklist: Sigh Formulation Psy. System Blue Mysost Psychoactive System DNA Psychic Power Planetary Movement Pa-R-Rel Universe DigiMafia I've come to learn that every time I hear a Material Music track all the way through I pretty much am always going to have a good time. Not always easy to comment on because some times they are simply pleasant trance tracks. Pleasant meant in the best way possible, pleasant is good, pleasant is great...Praise be to pleasant. Sigh Formulation - No fucks given for an intro so that's how it's gonna be here too. The first act is alright but doesn't really engage me. The next act knows what i'm wanting and hits me with it. So much was going that at the halfway point I thought the track was over. As soon as I stopped focusing so hard and just chilled out a little I didn't really appreciate this track properly. Psy, System - A track that asks you to take cruising altitude as soon as possible. Drive down a highway to it, in the background as you furiously comment and post on Facebook or pour a martini and jump around the room. Blue Mysost - Cosy Cheeze! Blue Cozy Cheese, just in case any one wanted to know what Mysost is. I mean this in an endearing way, Blue Mysost really is what i would want Lounge Trance to be. I want to be ordering a Negroni on a spring day with this in the background right now. Psychoactive System I don't know what to say really, another great background trance track. The first JOOF playlist I ever heard was when I starting paying attention to trance, a random playlist picked for a study sesh in the library and before you know it i was in the zone, pages and words flying,. All thanks to pappa JOOF. So far this album has been like that moment, wonderful music to have on while multitasking. DNA: More beautiful music to trance out to. Distinctly different yet again with a cool atmosphere to go along with it. Even on the 3rd listen i still got tranced out to this. The extra crazy parts snap your consciousness back into reality until the track takes you off again. Psychic Power gives me the first bad ass intro of the album and takes us in a new direction. more demanding of your attention Psychic Power is here to spin your mind and feet around. Exciting and engaging. Planetary Movement: Carries the new theme of 'listen up we are here to dance' along in a synthetic flurry of analog ... Yea i know that doesn't make sense. Pa-Ra-Rel Universe: The magic is knocked up to 300 degrees for this track. Floatey and enthusiastic Material Music creates a great atmosphere that feels like an exploratory journey through candy land. I like loud-and-in-your-face which is what the psychedelia littering this track is. A favourite from the album. Digimafia - Oooh very interesting intro. I reallly think there is nothing better that sets a tracks then a bad ass intro and Digimafia gets that done just right. Cool factor is at 150 Metres above sea level. Intensity factor blows the mercury out of the vial. One of the best and most exciting tracks I have heard from Material Music. It's so many different things at once and it all works together just right. I feel like I can appreciate both sides of this album. The first 5 tracks feel to me like great lounge tracks. Not that we really have places serving delicious cocktails and playing wild lounge Psytrance, but there should be, and this album belongs on the speakers. The second half of the album is pure hyper-speed mind travel. Material Music is a pro at mixing tracks up in different directions so seamlessly that you sometimes think the 5 minute mark will surely be the end of the track. And when he goes hard he throws psychedlic bliss our way. Each track here is going to find it's way into one playlist or another as it does what it does extremely well. I dunno, the guy has good ideas all over his tracks. https://materialmusic.bandcamp.com/album/dna-goa-records-lp

  4. Artist: Sky Technology Title: Free Spirit EP Label: Goa Records Date: May, 2016 1. Be Like Water 2. Free Spirit 3. If You Are Not A Human "Be water my friend. Be water." Dmitriy Kolosovskiy is known for his chaotic goa style, but here he delivers something slightly different. Free Spirit is a digital EP that focuses on going deeper into oneself perhaps. The pace is slower with a mystical twist on downtempo goa trance. The title track may have well been recorded inside of a Nepalese temple on top of the Himalayas. It's very spiritual with exotic instruments and intriguing percussion. The other two are smooth downtempo goa in the mold of an E-mantra. Relaxing and melodic. Pretty good ep! 5. Artist: Lectro Spektral Daze Title: Totally Frictionless Surface EP Label: Goa Records Date: February. 2014 1. Speechless 2. Totally Frictionless Surface 3. The Shiva Danny Marshall from New Zealand released this EP back in 2014 and I have to say that I'm really surprised and impressed. Like...Rihanna on the other end of a left hook surprised. Where did this come from? If his latest album sounded like this I believe more eyes would've been opened. The goa is cosmic and continues to be interesting all the way through. The music is entrancing with plenty of layers to delve into. He uses driving rhythms that invites dancing and unleashes the power at the right times. Great stuff to get lost in. Beatport
  6. Tottem - Natural Mystic EP Goa Records (goaep171) - Geomagnetic label group Released: April 15, 2015 Tottem is Christoffer Totte from Sweeden (had to find his soundcloud account to find any information on the artist, haha, pretty low-key) and for me his music was a totally unknown until last year when I stumbled upon his EPs in the vast catalogue of Geomagnetic label group... But what a pleasant meet this has been, without any doubt my favourite new artist to appear in 2015, hands down! Already his sound is very mature and complete, so I cannot wait to hear what will be in store for the future.... and I am surprised nobody else has reviewed some of his work to this date on Psynews (this and another EP called Proactive Runes... which I probably also should review), so for a starter you will have to make do with me Let us just get down and dirty, well first things first, overall the tracks have a very ritualistic feel to them, with deep grooves and panoramic soundscapes that swirls around "the room". As a simplistic approach, this could be defined as foresty Goa trance with most emphasis on the Goa part, yet the bottom sound-floor is based on the deep drive and bass-scape often found in (good) forest trance. I can only imagine how it would rip the dance-floors when played on good sound-system, yiaks! 1. The Yogis An epic opener, the track slowly builds up (and not in a hurry) to open up into swirling alien melodies, perfect panoramic "views" The way the melodies are build makes me think of Trold, but I wouldn’t say they are alike, but some kind kinship exist with the non-linear evolution the melodies undergoes... like the continues stream of the subconscious... very psychedelic 2. Buddhas From the Past Present and the Future The tribes move in... here we're moving into fire-dance territories. And then the melodies start.... underplayed and subtle, but suddenly you realize that you are embedded in a multi-layered cake of soothing melodies, very well made! Still the drive and the evolution of the track is very slow and patient (a good thing) with dreamy samples dropping in now and then... a trip! 3. Vishnu Now its getting darker and more foresty, the groove is deep and mystic (fucking amazing if you ask me)... The top-layers are still dream-like and floating on top of the deep vibrations underneath, very interesting combination! I have to hear this on a big sound-system with dancing people around me... Woah! This mix of deep grooves and dream-like melodies is very unique and very interesting, very epic sounding Mystical trance! 4. Natural Mystic For the last track we are back in the jungle to begin with but soon we are going to space... A nice closing track, with a little bit of sentimental note it. It is less involving than the previous tracks, the last bit of the track on the other hand takes you straight to the stars with laser-guns and aliens floating around, finishes too fast, or gets there too late though All in all, this a very very interesting contribution to the scene, and I hope this means that we are in store for even more from his hand... a very fresh take on the Goa scene, love it!!! Highly recommended!!! 5/5 Listen to it and buy it here >> Bandcamp <<
  7. Artist: Tavi Title: Magnetic Field Label: Goa Records (Cd) Timewarp Records (Digital) Date: April, 2013 1. Magnetic Field 2. Step of the elephant 3. The spirit of the east 4. Space Sail 5. Wanderers of the desert 6. Reactive Acid 7. Airavata 8. Desert Wind 9. Neptune 10. Cosmo Elephant I tried. Ummm...I tried harder than that. Not that I'm faulting your effort, but perhaps you should go look in the bootyliscious section. Hold up, I'll come with you. I really tried. This album came out of nowhere and I'm like, "Tavi? Who the f*ck is Tavi?" Then I read a thread in the label announcements section and there was a comment about the mastering being horrible. Like Suncokreti bad? Or I've got really great listening equipment and I can graphically show you bad? Puzzling. So I was pleased when Renato asked if I would like to review this. Renato what the hell are you doing here? Apparently this album was first released on Goa Records and while still available is now being offered as a digital download from new goa label Timewarp Records. So now I get to give this a proper listening. First I would like to say the cover is misleading. This type of goa has more in common with Egypt than with space. We've heard cosmic goa trance before and this ain't it. The melodies float gently over each other and evoke images of desert sands. There are nice layers and it is constantly changing shape. Sometimes those leads scream and sometimes they bubble, but what I really liked was that he would go from the wispy highs to the deep lows. As far as the production goes the more I played it the more I noticed the lack of dynamism. It did sound flat in the sense that I felt the need to continually increase the volume to bring out the awesome richness contained within. Not ideal, but not a deal breaker for headphones. On a big outdoor setup though I'm not so sure. So I decided to do a test. If I compared the sound quality of a 320 kbps copy readily available on the net and the 16 bit wavs Renato gave me the wav files sounded fine. Normally I cannot tell the difference between the two even though I'm sure that debate shall rage on. I don't know enough about the formats to speak intelligently on the subject. I'll gladly listen to anyone to anyone who has more knowledge on this matter because the last thing I want to do is tell people to buy something that is truly deficient in quality. I just don't see that being the case here. Bottom line, if you buy the original or the digital release from Timewarp you should be fine. Imagine that, getting good quality and compensating the artist for his hard work. Back to my original statement, I tried to find a reason not to like this album. It's just not there. Tavi created a great, melodic goa trance album and I can't wait to get my physical copy. Highly recommended. 8. Artist: Trinodia Title: Untuned Visions Label: Goa Records Date: April, 2015 1. Untuned Visions 2. Everything Allright 3. 4th Dimension 4. Intelligent 5. Snapshot 6. Escape 7. Change 8. Unseen 9. Voxel9 - Errors and Trials Trinodia is Daniel Eldström and he has established himself as one of the pillars of the current crop of goa trance artists with albums such as Astral Clouds, Stargazing, and Human History. But before all those great albums he was just like you, trying to find his way and discover his sound. Maybe not you. Cubase is hard, if it was easy everyone would be using it. This digital only release has been remastered and was his second album originally released back in 2004, pretty much the height of the full-on craze. And make no mistake it's full-on as Daniel will proudly tell you. But like most of his compositions the level of detail is off the charts. It's big on atmosphere and oftentimes groove. If the full-on producers today could make music like he made ELEVEN f*cking years ago maybe it wouldn't get rightly sh*t on like it does. This is good stuff with some really thumping beats and you might be able to detect a sliver of the the goa direction his music would eventually take. That being said as fresh and enduring as I think it is, it's full-on so it will never get top marks from a lot of people and that's understandable. Full-on is the red headed stepchild of psytrance. Daddy doesn't love you. I can't say this is essential, but if you're interested in Trinodia's great production of music other than goa trance then this should interest you. Psyshop
  9. Declaration Of Unity Luminescent Revolution Goa Records Tracklist: 1. Obliteracion 2. Hypnotic Awakening 3. Luminescent Territory 4. Urban Jewel 5. Canadair 6. Jamaicalien 7. Magick Droplet 8. Prime Consciousness 9. Vista Point 10. Aqua Spirit Of the great full-on albums of 2015, Luminescent Revolution is my favorite. Staggering to think I was unaware of these guys until a few short months ago, staggering to think that of the trio one has a primary focus on making goa, another has a focus on making forest, yet here is a debut full-length where the vibe is warm and wonderful morning full-on. No reason to have seen this one coming which makes the impact of the thing that much more affecting. Of their history here in 2015, DoU member Ion Vader released a good goa EP entitled Expansion through TimeWarp Records. Declaration of Unity themselves then released their Optical Delusion EP through Ovnimoon and showcased an adept skill at blending forest, goa and full-on in one intriguing package, but nothing quite like Luminescent Revolution. The only piece of work similar to this full-length comes on their awesome "Rivershack" track from Mysteries of Psytrance Vol. 4. Both are released pretty close to each other, though, and hardly offered up enough time to register the direction these guys would be heading in here. And, of course, if you're unfamiliar with Declaration of Unity then all of this is pretty new to you anyway. Unfortunately, "Rivershack" does not appear on this album but it should have. It's beautiful, catchy, melodic and would have been one more shining jewel on a sterling album. Perhaps unfortunately, too, is the absence of Ion Vader's goa sounds, much more prevalent in its chirping and synth solos on Optical Delusion. The most one will get of goa on this album is the depth and emotion of the tracks themselves, and maybe that isn't such a down point. Interestingly, among all these full-on basslines and warm and relaxing morning-time vibes, more of a focus is put on the forest effects which quite often adds a lot of moodiness and atmosphere to the music. Sometimes, as on "Vista Point," things get too far into the murky forest sounds and the warm vibe of the album itself gets lost. Meanwhile, on "Luminescent Territory" standard and ultimately uninteresting full-on fails to captivate. Those are the down points. Everything else here is great. The energetic gems of "Canadair" and "Jamaicalien" are afternoon outdoor gems, ready to fill a dancefloor while offering up depth and emotion that has quite a bit of fire in its step for the at-home listener. "Magick Droplet" is a psychedelic masterwork, a track that offers up something new and impressive on each listen. "Hypnotic Awakening," "Urban Jewel" and "Prime Consciousness" are great filler tracks that would likely outshine many other tracks if they were offered up individually on a compilation to be compared against the work of their peers. The centerpieces of this album, however, the truly shining moments, are the introduction and the conclusion. The stunning and hypnotic "Obliteracion" enraptures and entrances the longer it plays on. There's quite a bit of transporting magic in this one made all the more impressive because on repeat listens the effect is replicated each and every time. "Aqua Spirit" offers up a bit of techno and progressive vibes while the full-on bass keeps everything moving along at a brisk pace. The addictive vocal samples add a lot of bounce to the track and makes this one of the more celebratory of the bunch while it offers up a bit more attitude than found elsewhere on the album. It's a great closer, definitely, but to these ears it's more of a fantastic one. Three greek producers walk into a studio and it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. The punchline here is more funny-weird, though. Goa and forest producers, one would think, should come up with something more weird and experimental when they put their heads together. Luminescent Revolution is anything but. It is excellent full-on with a morning vibe so nothing goes about beating the listener over the head. That warmth in its sound makes it a very special listen while all the melodies, depth of sound, production values, direction changes and loving attention to detail assure this one is a keeper and a very strong listen for a great long while to come. I did not see this one coming. But knowing what I do about these guys now and how good and unpredictable they seem to be at what they do, I probably won't see their next one coming, either. And I look forward to that. Psyshop Declaration Of Unity
  10. Artist: Ascent Title: I Will Fly Again Label: Goa Records Date: January, 2013 1. Purple Moon 2. Himalayas 3. Sense of Touch 4. Mystical Forest 5. Tear Drops (feat. Sideeffected) 6. When The Night Comes I don't have my finger on the pulse of the psytrance scene. I've never attended a party or met an artist or DJ. I have read Mushroom Magazine a couple of times, but there was a lot of words and half of it was in Dutch and I got bored. I prefer to let the music speak to me. This is after all "trance" in various forms so it should capture my attention and take me to another place. And this guy continues to do this. Ascent is Bojan Stojiljkovic abd he has released a bunch of EP's that I am sorting through as well as numerous albums. And so far everything I've heard has been magical. Transformative. Conscious raising. Whether it's progressive trance or downtempo and ambient with his brother Argus the detail captivates. Lush is an understatement and he does so much with simple bass lines. The melodies are gentle and comforting and can be uplifting or ominous. And a surefire way to hook me? Give your music a bit of goa flavor. I imagine progressive is approaching the saturation point where it becomes a punch line much the same way full-on did. Where so much of it was being produced that it all began to sound the same. Eyes would roll and groans would sound. Maybe. Like I said I don't have the word on the street, but as long as beautiful music like this is being created I'm still gonna listen. Go ahead...make fun of me and roll your eyes. I can take it. Psyshop Beatport Mdk
  11. Artist: Trinodia Title: Ignorant Label: Goa Records Date: July, 2013 1. Halfdeaph 2. Violins on Acid 3. Whispering Truths 4. Hunger For E.S.P. 5. Ignorant 6. Groove It Up 7. Enya E Inte Rejv 8. It's All Static 9. Voxel9 - Transita Astra I'm ignorant about a lot of things. I mistakenly thought the country of Georgia was in the Balkans. I still don't understand the need for geometry proofs or why anyone would want to watch someone defecate on another person. Guess I'm innocent. But the list doesn't end there. Take this album for example. No it's not a new CD even though the guy is quite prolific. This is a remastered album of material from 2004 and is exactly what you would expect from the psytrance genre back then. Full on without the goa prowess he regularly wields today. A heavy sci-fi atmosphere and lots of sound effects with too many empty stretches will be found here. Tracks like Halfdeaph and Groove It Up shine the brightest for me both being quality twilight numbers. The last two tracks weren't on the original release with the last one being from his downtempo/ambient project. Liked that one also. Sounded like the dawn after a thunderstorm. He's been around a long time and this album shows just how far he has come from hawking Cds he burned himself out of the trunk of a Nissan Sentra after gigs. Cause ummm...you can't touch him now. Beatport Mdk
  12. Artist: Siam Title: Start To Focus EP Label: Goa Records Date: November, 2012 1. Psychic Energy 2. Start To Focus 3. Run To The Sun 4. Beyond The Astral Worlds Let's keep this short and sweet. This is John Pitsakis from Greece with I believe his first EP. It's a mixture of goa and psy sounding very full-on. Psychic Energy was too long and needed some more evolution. Some good acid licks, but it felt small. Start To Focus was more assertive with its goa badassery and makes good use of layers. Run to the Sun was ok, but again light on the details. Just when I thought I was gonna give this the emphatic thumbs down he saves the best for last. Beyond the Astral Worlds has more interesting melodies and a greater sense of tension. Not a terrible ep, but his subsequent Sunset In Jupiter EP is far superior. Beatport Mdk

The Fallout "Our projections show that by the year 2025 ,not only America but the entire planet will be under the protection and the dominion of this power alliance." Proving to be the vengeful God that he is, Jesus is obviously paying me back for the Vox review. Seems he didn't care for my blasphemous tone. Fine Jesus, you control the weather. You're lord of the thermostat. It's stickier than sweaty donkey balls out here. I'll save you the trouble of asking me how I know that. Your mom told me. My wife had a friend in med school from Ghana who would get so pissed off when Americans would say "It's Africa hot out here." She would remind us that the level of humidity in the Southeast United States cannot be found in Africa. I don't know if that's true, but I took her word for it. She also had a gardener, housekeeper, and a butler. Totally shattered my conceptions about the standard of living in Africa. Well, Ghana anyway. So...what else have I been wrong about? Maybe blondes really aren't that dumb? Don't...f*cking...care... Maybe female bodybuilders look perfectly natural I bet my 401k that he-she pees standing up. Maybe Smithers wasn't gay, he was just well dressed. Still not as gay as Glee. This is Igor Čeranic from Zagreb, Croatia. You might recognize the name because not only is he behind the Perfect Blind Project (great downtempo stuff) but he is also half of Dual Barrell. Couple that with being part of two metal bands and I would say this is one busy motherf*cker. But check a lot of releases because he also masters a ton of them. Ironically, he didn't do the mastering on his own release. So like a fat kid at the state fair he's got his fingers in a lot of pies. Deimos is a psytrance project with a darker and harder edge to it. Know how I know that? Promo told me. And this is not hyperbole. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's begin with the cover. Love it. It gives us a glimpse into a post apocalyptic future where we didn't seem to learn our lesson. He tackles a lot of the same issues that Front Line Assembly would and you can tell they had a huge influence on his music. Identical track names and of course samples. Minus the laryngitis inducing vocals of course. The cover itself reminds me of a release by Rush in the mid 70's called Farewell to Kings that he wouldn't know anything about because f**ck him. Young bastard. What have we forgotten? That there used to not be anything called remote control. That I would have to to get up from my TV Tray that shakily supported my Hungry Man dinner and change the channel, only to knock over said tray and thereby kick the dog in anger and resume my position as public enemy number one on PETA's sh*tlist? Still love the cover. Disobey- It's a short intro track that sets the stage for what happened to us as a society. Living underground, very matrix like, broadcasting from a hidden location imploring the human race to please wake the f*ck up. Modus Operandi- Thumping and in a bad mood he takes apocolyptic inspiration from Frontline Assembly and mixes psychedelic sounds with changes in tempo. It ends on a fast note and is a further introduction into a world where man vs. machine had devastating consequences. She can't hear you scotty, you're talking into the garage door opener. Na Rubu Horizonta- More driving rhythms as the intensity increases. The break is a hollow echo in the shell of a warehouse where a few lucky survivors were able to find refuge. From a relatively safe area they are treated to more of the air combat that leveled their society in the first place. Our Benefactors- A sinister lead moves with blinding speed as it enforces discipline on the vanquished humans. It's fast, deliberate and very atmospheric. Think of Dark City, The Terminator, and Blade Runner all combined into one monumental defeat for us. The break is rich in mechanical fear as prisoners are kept at bay with a searing 303. Very powerful. The Raid (v2)- He ain't letting up for a second with that bass line as the effects ripple in the background. If the title says the Raid, I'm thinking of the machines infiltrating home base of the humans deep underground. The break has danger lurking around every corner with synth stabs soaked in reverb. He takes this music, sets the scene, and then rams it down your throat. Seishin- I'm not Japanese and only know what I see in Godzilla movies, but does that word mean sperm? Mario Tomašković of Subscale (one of the heavy metal bands of which he is a member) on guitars. Now normally I like guitars in my psytrance about as much as I like drinking from the toilet. But here, it's forceful and melancholy at times. He doesn't half ass it and the guitar adds to the vibe instead of screaming "Hey asshole, look at me!" In the beginning. The break like all the other breaks is brief but descriptive and where it solidifies itself as a trance track, but then the guitar begins to really take over and I don't care for hair metal in my psytrance. The Breakout- Here he teams up with his Psilocybian buddy and this is one of the most psychedelic tracks on the album. Throbbing with great percussion and juicy electronics that get you in the back of the throat. Leads that leave a mark and are unrelenting just spill over the banks and it makes me whip my bear back and forth. What? Hair? No, I'm pretty sure it's bear. See? Bear. Where did you get hair from? Whatever. Doesn't even make sense. We Have Forgotten- Another driving track with acid licks, but I didn't connect with it too well until the sort of break which started getting my attention. Apart from that though, not as powerful as the last track or as intricate as some of the others. Blood Magic- I get the sense that he's slowing it down without decreasing velocity. Gone is the hard exterior and in its place is a more pensive thought process. Psy-gressive would be a great way to describe this. His effects are on point and the darkness still reigns. Think of coming from underground and looking upon the devastation of the war between man and machine for the first time. It's a holy sh*t moment. The Fallout- This one is quite interesting. The title and the beginning suggest that that war is over as the track creeps along at a mid-tempo shuffle. It's still dark and eerie and the good guys have won, but will they have learned their lesson? You know there's one asshole who keeps some alien dna or something because he things that he can tame the creature. The influences jump right out at you. FLA, science fiction movies, heavy metal...all with a dark overtone. And for the vast majority he doesn't miss a step with full power rhythms and superb atmosphere creation. This is an example of an album you have to listen to all the way through to allow yourself to get swallowed up. There is no sunshine here, no winners, only the cold reality of high tech warfare and the toll it takes on all involved. If you like your psytrance powerful and dark this is something that you will enjoy. Coming Soon Mdk
