  1. Artist: One Arc Degree + Cybernetika Title: Nether Moon Ep Label: Ektoplazm Date: August, 2015 01 - One Arc Degree & Cybernetika - Nether Moon (174 BPM) 02 - One Arc Degree - Ghost Comet (176 BPM) 03 - One Arc Degree - Ghost Comet (Cybernetika Remix) (176 BPM) 04 - Cybernetika - Stinger (One Arc Degree Remix) (87 BPM) Whaddya get when you mix 2 Greeks and a German? Some smooth electronic music. One Arc Degree (Vasilis Kesalidis & Ioannis Konstantios) and Cybernetika (Lars Goossens) combine forces for pretty decent ep. The science fiction style is well represented as drum n bass percussion pings off the hull of our observatory craft with Nether Moon. It also has a nice break and cool piano riffs. The kick thunders in Ghost Comet as gentle and warming tones twinkle above and then Lars gets his hands on it and makes it more dark and mysterious. The closing downtempo track is also mellow and mysterious. Not Earth shattering, but solid nonetheless. Free at Ektoplazm
  2. Artist: Various (It's Filipe) Title: Oriental Accidentalists Label: Sumboon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Chynacid - Tianlong 2. The Lost Buddha - Astral Projection 3. The Lost Buddha - Spiritual Justice 4. Mana Source - Karmaggedon 5. Mana Source - Moon Minerium 6. Realm 9 - Mercury 7. Space Sinbad - Heart of Kali 8. Space Sinbad - Eyes of Osiris 9. The Lost Buddha - Ice of Ancients 10. Ketoret - Conceived 11. Gankyil - Nyorai DAMN!!!!! I'm more convinced than ever that you are less a human being and actually a bot that produces kick ass goa trance at pre-determined intervals. It's one thing to be prolific (that you are Filipe), but to maintain this level of quality is just unheard of. Track after track of just blistering goa trance. If I had to hunt for a negative it would be that your tracks follow the same pattern and can sound very similar. You don't tell stories you decimate dance floors. And make goa trancers like me fall down from excessive twirling. But when the music is this good, you just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going. The style is typical aggressive and growly goa trance and picking a favorite is like choosing which color M&M is better. They are all top notch stuff. Now for the consumer your should know that some of these beauties have been released before. Tianlong on the Tofu EP, Missionary on the Missionary and Conceived EP, and the Lost Buddha and Mana Source tracks also have digital EPs. Now as he is prone to do, Filipe opens a label and closes it sometimes pretty quickly. Only to start a whole new one. Submoon Records offered this as a CD-r, but as of this typing Submoon Records is no more. He's moved on to Good Dance Recordings, but I cannot find this or any of his earlier releases on that label. So I don't know where you would get this today. But this is how you do it. Let the music do all the talking. And this album is saying volumes.
  3. Artist: Kunai Title: Ascendancy Label: Submoon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Himalayas 2. Mandarin 3. Origami 4. Mahjong 5. Ascendancy 6. Wushu 7. Tranquility Another Filipe Santos project? You betcha! I've lost count of how many he has, but this is his first release under the name of Kunai. And he does something that I hoped he would and that is deliver a different style of goa. This CD-r has tracks that exhibit a more laid back feel. Pumping up tempo, yet not aggressive. The sound is good and instead of pounding you into submission it's a gentler "lengthening" of melodies that still retains that sense of depth and exotic atmosphere. Not a lot of changes and not a lot of melodies thrown into the mix, but a gradual unfolding. The difference in the style here is instantly appreciated and while I love his signature sound he navigates this other approach with skill. Recommended for those that would like their goa with a relaxed flair. Love that cover btw...
  4. Artist: 01-N Title: Acid Experiments Label: Timewarp Records Date: August, 2015 1. Acid Experiment 2. Implant 3.Tri-sight 4. Groans 5. Hippocampus Control 6. Incubus 7. Proliferation 8. Vishuddi Chakra Believe it or not this is the 5th album from Japanese producer Takashi Oikawa. I know right? Never heard of this guy. Anyone know the significance of the artist's name? If I read the promo right on the Timewarp Bandcamp page, these tracks were made in the early 2000's. Suppose he was just waiting for the right climate with which to release this. This digital only release is frenetic and full of bombast. And loud. This doesn't float into space it straps you to the back of a rocket and propels you there. Screeching melodies that pack a lot of punch and have a distinct Japanese flavor to them. All the tracks are fairly long which means plenty of time for development. Each production has a raw quality to it and it's the type of goa where you are pummeled with sound in the hopes that it will force you into that state of trance. Powerful surely, I just can't decide if I like it or I love it. I do know this...I   Implant and Incubus. Especially Incubus. That f*cking thing is an inferno of acidic porn. 5. Artist: Sykespico Title: Sonic Bomb EP Label: Zion604 Date: August, 2015 1. Fly 2. Attatchment 3. Sonic Bomb "The hour for which people have been waiting for centuries." The end of f*cking summer? That's what I'm waiting for cause it's f*cking hot. Unnatural. Did you know that this last July was the hottest on record for the planet? At least when it's cold you can throw on a damn coat. With this heat walking to the mailbox becomes an endeavor. I hate summer. There's only three reasons to sweat this much and having lunch isn't one of them. Either you having some vigorous nookie, getting a good workout (which could be the same thing) or you're in a sauna. Don't know why you would want to be in a box and crank up the heat though. Sounds like torture. Goofy knows what I'm talking about, look at him. He just wants a f*cking ham sandwich. *All previous statements will be bullsh*t once I install my in ground pool. Then summer is awesome.* Thankfully this thermal nut punch will be over soon and we can get back to the business of enjoying time outside without suffering from swamp ass. Seems the labels are knee deep in hot sweaty hippies at festivals this summer so the releases have pretty much slowed to a crawl. This one almost flew under the radar, but don't worry I gotcha. This duo has released a track on the Flight 604 II compilation and it was kick ass. No clue who they are could be anybody. One thing I'm sure of is that I'm not one of them. And look at Zion dipping their toe in the digital market. Three tracks of somewhat drifting goa trance. Nothing spectacular just good, quality music perfect for on the beach listening. Attachment has a bit of the old school sound to my ears and Fly had a nice guitar crunch. Didn't think I would like it, but they made it work. Well worth throwing this duo a few scheckles. 6. Artist: Sulima Title: Mechanoid Label: Timecode Records Date: August, 2015 1. In 2. R2D9 3. Vs117sv 4. Interlock 5. Mechanoid 6. Voksillator 7. Kriotron 8. Polar 9. Astra 10. Out I always like to check in on Timecode Records and see what they're up to. There was a time when I was completely enamored with this label. The glory days when it seemed that every single release they threw out there was better than the next. Originators of that South African sound that skillfully melded dark atmosphere with melody and power. Times change and artists move on yet this label still has designs to be a force in psytrance. Sulima is a Russian artist who I have limited experience with and I suppose his style could be a cross between darkpsy and night time psytrance music if that makes it any less clear. Never heard his album Time Shift, but I was eager to see what he was cooking up. This is a fairly solid album (digital only), dark and thumping. He uses a lot of similar sounds so it can be a little difficult to avoid sounding samey. That said he's also pretty good at layering and creating a futuristic atmosphere. There are 8 full tracks as well as an intro and an outro providing that aforementioned eerie future feel. There are a few standouts like Interlock and Astra which seem to hit that sweet spot between rich darkness and attainable melody, but the album as a whole falls a little short of greatness. However if you like your night time psytrance a little on the dark side without being mindless, then this is for you. Good job Timecode. Timecode Bandcamp Psyshop
  7. Artist: Filipe Santos Title: Goa - The New Generation Label: Submoon Records Date: August, 2015 1. Psydonym - Venusians 2. Beast303 - Beast 303 3. Liquid Jungle - High Toxicity 4. Mind Reset - Parasite Eve 5. Resistrance - Hypnolab 9 6. Sylica-X - Re-Search 7. Kunai - Ascendancy 8. Rainbow Islands - Sevens Heavens In an effort to be enshrined into the Guinness Book of World Records as the artist with the most aliases Filipe Santos returns to the goa scene and promptly reclaims territory. Kinda. All of these projects are Filipe so don't try to infringe on his copyrights. I know this because it says so on the inside cover. What I don't know is if these tracks are part of the "new" generation. And can it be a new generation when it's just one guy? Several (Beast303 - 2010, High Toxicity -2011, Re-Search -2012) have been released before when Filipe ran the acid/goa label Acid Chemical Plant Records. Although to be accurate and give Imba a shoutout, the Beast303 EP was released on Underground Alien Factory. We clear? So it's unknown whether he made these tracks awhile ago and just left them on the old hard drive. What is known is that the style of Filipe is well represented with driving rhythms and layers of those delicious goa sounds. As expected he incorporates the acid in several of the tracks, but they all have ripping leads and that attitude that the creator must carry with him. Love him, hate him, ignore him, acknowledge him, this guy is prolific and prolific with consistent quality. Some of the greatest artists of our time have also been the most troubled. Allow me to make an assumption based solely on an avatar. Perhaps Filipe has found inspiration and focus with his wife/girlfriend and new baby. All the other nonsense (justified or not) is background noise. Right now he is making some big boy noise. And this isn't even the best of his most recent output. Stay tuned.
