  1. RA - Visions Altar Records - ARDEP79 Ever since Earthcall came out eight long years ago, to quote from this new EP I have had a Burning Love Desire for RA to release more music, so to say I was excited when I found out about it would be an understatement! This is a downtempo release in a similar sort of style to the stunning album Unearthly (which has recently been remastered- not sure how they could improve on perfection!). Whilst I would have to say this one is not RA's most complex material, as always it's impeccably produced, highly pleasurable and soothing to listen to and a solid addition to their catalog. According to the credits, the Visions EP is a solo work by Lars W. Lind. I believe this is the first release from RA without Christer Borge-Lunde's involvement, so it is an interesting chance to hear Lars' influence on the project in isolation. 1. Enthralled 6:49 2. Mysterious Thing 6:51 3. Visions Of Touch 6:27 4. The Burning 7:18 1. Enthralled A seriously mellow and chilled out opening track. The synths wash over you and seem to melt together in a delicious slow ambience. 7/10 2. Mysterious Thing "The soul understands what the mind cannot conceive." a voice whispers enigmatically. This track turns the tension up just a notch with a more exotic flavor. 7/10 3. Visions of Touch The textures on this title track are delectable to my ears and brain, especially with that bass. That texture of the sound evokes thoughts of the synesthesia suggested in the track title. It's more upbeat, even funky, compared to the opening tracks. At the halfway point we get intense layers of euphoric synths in a mesmerizing chord progression. Now we're talking! 9/10 4. The Burning This has a trippier feeling than some of the earlier tracks with a pulsating ethereal voice and layers of gorgeous soundscape. It's simultaneously mellow, ambient, upbeat and psychedelic, which is a great achievement in itself, I think. We get a female voiceover with an American accent about Burning Love Desire. The theme of love, desire and romance is nice and I believe a change from the more purely spiritual or philosophical wisdoms we get in RA's previous tracks. I'll let you be the judge of how well it works here I think. 8/10 All in all, a great and extremely relaxing release and I hope with all my heart that we will be hearing plenty more from RA in the years to come. 8/10 https://ra-altar-records.bandcamp.com/album/visions
  2. Artist: Akshan Title: World of Duality Label: Altar Records Date: March, 2018 1. Welcome As You Are 2. La Conscience De L'espace 3. World of Trouble 4. Time For Change 5. The Other Side 6. Underworld 7. Rebirth 8. Time Is Unity Akshan is a French artist inspired by the likes of Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre and it shows in his compositions. His first two albums The Tree of Life and The Rise of Atlantis were exercises in vast, cinematic soundscapes. One might say a virtual reality that enveloped the listener. While the first two tracks are slightly minimal sounding lacking that soundtrack experience the third track World of Trouble gets him back to his sweet spot. The melodies and effects he uses are highly emotional akin to the type you would find on a Hollywood blockbuster. The intro to Time For Change is simply marvelous and the track continues the slow burn of somewhat tribal mysticism. True, some of the tracks perhaps ramble for a little too long, but he shows skill and attention to detail with numerous layers to keep the ear involved. His breaks are very powerful and serve as a strong bridge between parts of the tracks. While not as "epic" as his previous work, I enjoyed the album and think any progressive trance listener would also. Altar Bandcamp Psyshop
  3. Artist: Argus Title: Field of Dreams Label: Altar Records Date: February, 2018 1. Long Gone 2. Glaciers of Oblivion 3. Followed By Light 4. Wind Song 5. Field of Dreams 6. Untouchable Mind 7. Ocean of Causes 8. Under the Mountain 9. Nemrak It's Saturday and I've only had one cup of coffee so what better way to chill than to listen to some, uh...chill. Argus is Branko Stojiljkovic from Serbia and for my money one of the best downtempo artists today. His style is drifting, melodic, and so welcoming. I haven't heard his album Architect of Time (my fault), but thoroughly enjoyed Deep Water and Beyond Sight. Right out of the gate with Long Gone he sets you up in your favorite lazy boy with ethereal vocals and a mellow groove. His style of slowly exploring the sonic space is delicious as the ear hunts for new sounds. His movement into and out of breaks is seamless and provides a stunning experience. The music vacillates between cold and warm, but always maintains a thoughtfulness or a melancholy tone. Tracks like Wind Song and Field of Dreams get into that mid-tempo style, but I don't believe that's where his strength is. It's when he stretches a track out, let's it take it's time and allows all the pieces to come together when he wields his greatest power in my opinion. A very good album that was perfect for contemplation between cups of joe. Altar Records Bandcamp Psyshop
  4. Artist: Astral Waves Title: Magnetique Label: Altar Records Date: March 2015 1. Emergence (Album Edit) 2. Le Rêve Eveillé 3. Les Liens Du Sang (Feat. Aureohm) 4. Déploie Tes Ailes 5. La Danse Des Elfes 6. Suntrap (Morning Mix) 7. Androcell - Efflorescence (Astral Waves Remix) 8. L'Oiseau De l'Aube (Feat. Alwoods) Bored me you have. This is the third album of DJ Zen's Astral Waves project and while I thoroughly enjoyed Magique, I cannot say the same for this one. The majority of the tracks are on the long side and tend to be overly so. This is treadmill running. Yeah I'm running so that's great and my heart is happy, but I'm not going anywhere so now my mind is pissed off. The first three tracks were positive, but then this effort just fell off the cliff. The last album was mostly downtempo with varied themes, but this album is uptempo without any depth or challenges. It is competent, but it is far from memorable and full of what we have heard ad nauseum. Altar Bandcamp Psyshop
  5. Artist: Asura Title: Atmosphere Label: Altar Records Date: April, 2017 1. Frontiers (Final Mix) 2. Always (LS Vintage Edit) 3. The Bhaktas - Pitre Purus (Asura Remix) 4. Eternal Sunshine (Ambient Mix) 5. Le Souffle Du Vent (Second Mix) 6. Deva Delay 7. Reze (Unreleased Version) 8. The Savers 9. Interlude Sky (Remix) Doesn't add up. Another titanic project in psychedelic ambient and downtempo music has seen a bit of roster turnover and is now the solo project of Charles Farewell. Damn, that's a cool name. Even with the departures however this project attempts to continue where the previous album Radio Universe left off. Always leaning toward the dramatic and symphonic this album does so in places. Opening with a very majestic remix of Frontiers it calls to mind a soundtrack for a major motion picture in the making. Vast and lush. The uptempo Ambient Mix of Eternal Shunshine has resounding percussive booms that demand attention while Le Souffle Du Vent has a groovy swagger that I keep coming back to. Reze is another uptempo effort that combines exotic vocals with worldly instruments and a funky groove. Closing things out is a final uptempo track and it leaves me scratching my head and wondering when Asura became a progressive act. As I mentioned this is more of an uptempo or even progressive trance album than a downtempo one. This project has ventured down this road before, but I didn't think he would make an album like this. I prefer the ambient side way more as I found his uptempo stuff decent, but fairly unremarkable. The majority of this album doesn't contain the depth or gravitas I come to expect. So while pretty good, I found my mind wandering while listening to it. As a matter of fact I wouldn't hesitate to say it's the weakest Asura album to date. Altar Bandcamp Psyshop

Shortly after this album, his landmark album “The Rise of Atlantis” was released. Today, the master is back with another conceptual album! This time we'll dive into the dualism of life, the coexistence of opposite forces and thoughts that drives all forms of life on Earth. The subject is vast and was masterfully designed in a fieriest auditory experience by our dear French artist. "World of Duality" was in the making over 4 years, and again certainly proves that Akshan is way ahead of his pals with his talents, as he crafts us with his own unique beats, ambiances and melodies. This album sweats true maturity and it seems that Akshan became aware of his dual nature, while he began to transcend it and was able to express his feelings through the music. His sound is one of a kind and like a lone angelic knight opening new horizons for us to discover, he amazes us again! 8. MOBITEX 'The Flow' debut album out now! :: PRESS RELEASE :: Mobitex is Eyal Markovich from the Sea of Galilee Israel. The love for psytrance found him in 1997 and after being deeply submerged in the electronic scene he embarked on his electronic music production journey, first starting out with production software like Rebirth and Fruity Loops 1.1. In 2003, he decided to undertake studies in sound engineering which was an exponential experience to continue to achieve a B.A in communication studies. Soon after in 2007, he found himself at a threshold of choosing careers between music or becoming a teacher. He did become a teacher. Nevertheless, life had additional plans for him in store. In 2015, he teamed up with Hudur Shrim and out of that revelation they skillfully produced two albums under the nickname “Profondita”: 'Ciel' which was released on Altar Records May 2016. And the second album released in May 2017 as 'Dracarys'. Well relax I got this. Your boy has done it again. Romanian sound shaman and mysterious Facebook presence Emmanuel Carpus further cements his legacy with his 2nd downtempo release on Altar Records. The melodies are smooth and heaven sent, arriving in his signature style. What sticks out to me is his use of percussion which is sharp as a tack. Varied and deliciously effective. This album is loaded with smooth grooves that will induce involuntary head bouncing. The sounds themselves are beautiful while the layers tumble in continuous waves. The bass also has a constant presence preserving that relaxing, dub feel. If the psytrance, goa, or downtempo community printed money this guy's face should be on it. Astral Waves is DJ Zen (aka Gabriel D.) based in Quebec, Canada. Originally hailing from France, he’s one of the pioneers of the Canadian psytrance scene. DJ Zen created Altar Records in 2009; as label chief he’s been running and managing things ever since. On top of providing DJ and live sets on demand, he also does most of the artwork and audio mastering for Altar Records. His production as Astral Waves has gathered high praise in the psychill scene, along with the numerous compilations he’s compiled and curated for Altar Records (and other diverse labels). His latest offering gives testimony to his emerging status as a very promising producer. This is a deep, tribal psychill journey made over the last three years with the following goals in mind: no repetition whatsoever of any sounds or samples, and maximum inspiration taken from nature, indigenous people, tribal drum rhythms and chants from all over the world. If you’re looking for a soundtrack to activate your inner Warrior of Light, you are in for a treat! And while this is definitely a journey that takes you into the realm of psychedelic chill (with its deep, trippy vibe), it also comes with a nice serving of dub influences, some progressive chill, and strong tribal beats at key points for good measure —hence the title “Genesis”. In fact, it’s a wonderfully diverse album that plays out very much like a ‘best of Astral Waves’ compilation would. And for good reason: this definitely is his best work to date, and his most creative. Each and every sound was carefully chosen and meticulously crafted, providing a unique feeling to the compositions as well as a musical trip to the continents of Asia, Africa, America, and Europe. The album flows seamlessly even if each ‘wave’ or story has a different flavour. It seems that Astral Wave’s intention with Genesis here is to prove that psychill music is more than capable of tapping into our deepest feelings and states of mind. Since the dawn of mankind, music has been crafted to express feelings, sooth fears, express boundless joy and (most of all) get the tribe dancing, moving and shaking. So it was in the beginning, so it is now…Let the journey begin… ............ Track 1) “The Believer”: Genesis starts ever so gently with a long, evolving and deep psychill-dub track featuring the amazing vocals of French/Quebec singer Patrick Bernard —a renowned artist in the local new age and yoga scene. Experience spirit through sound with this thirteen minute odyssey (80 bpm). Track 2) “Ashura II”: offers up a Middle-Eastern sounding track with dark overtones, gnarly bass lines, simple percussion and trippy tribal chants. Suryademah previously released this on Altar Records, and for this album it’s been completely reworked (90bpm). Track 3) “Rain of Shooting Stars II”: the most psychedelic song on the album…using only three samples taken from the well known Alwoods track "Rain Of Shooting Stars”, this is night time music at its finest (100 bpm). Night trippers, prepare to trance. Track 4) "La Danse du Feu" (Dance of Fire)”: the fourth stop on our voyage takes us into the primal forests of indigenous North America, for a raw, tribal journey with this (105 bpm) energetic composition. Samples of nature, spoken Native words, and the powerful kick give this tune its earthy, crunchy feel, while the sophisticated arrangement keeps things interesting. If you’re a fan of ‘A Tribe Called Red’ but looking for something a bit trippier, this song is pure medicine for your ears. Electric guitar by Raph LVD. Track 5) "La Danse de l'Eau" (Water Dance)”: a gorgeous, evolving track with delightful flute lines from AEolia Project, recorded at Altar Records studios during the summer of 2016 expressly for this piece. In addition to grooving tribal percussion, the song also has an amazing climax that takes us on a sunny, positive journey to the heart of mother Africa (72 / 144 bpm). Strong vibes and guaranteed sunshine for all tribal dancers. Track 6) “Optimistic II”: for this one, Astral Waves collaborated with Mobitex (aka Eyal Markovich) from Israel —a country that knows a thing or two about psychedelic music. While managing to keep a very musical feel, this track is a deep dive into modern dub-trance electronica (115 bpm). Track 7) “Inflation Eternelle II”: here we have an Astral Waves version of a joint creation made with top producer Astropilot, and originally published on the "Fall" compilation (released in 2015). Soaring melody lines and poignant key changes take this track to the next level. Clocking in at 112 bpm, get ready for an epic and beautiful excursion into sound, unfolding for your dancing pleasure. Track 8) “Les Liens du Sang (Profondita remix)”: a stunning remix (110 bpm) taken from the last album by Astral Waves (“Magnetique”, published in 2015). With its gorgeous Goa style bass lines, dubbed out arpeggios, and emotive build ups, this track is a pure delight to bring to completion this one-of-a-kind album… ............ In conclusion, Genesis takes you on a voyage through the dawn of time, to the emerging of tribal trance music and spiritual consciousness in various cultures, and ultimately, to mankind's reaching to the stars. It’s a journey you’ll want to take again and again, surfing the Astral Waves created by Canada’s very own DJ Zen! http://astralwaves.bandcamp.com/music http://www.facebook.com/AstralWaves http://www.facebook.com/AltarRecords http://www.facebook.com/ZenAltarRec Astral Waves biography: http://www.bit.ly/2omzwNW More albums by ASTRAL WAVES: http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/mystique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magnetique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magnetique-24bits http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/yoga-temple-24bits Artwork by Sean Kyle Allum http://www.Elohprojects.com credits released April 28, 2017
  13. Artist: Various Title: Salutation To The Planets Label: Altar Records Date: June, 2013 Salutation to the Planets remixed 8 times. Seriously. Ok. What do you do when you make a weak track that is uber repetitive? Sure that's the honorable thing, but how about just delete it? Or...and hear me out...invite a bunch of label mates over and see if they can clean up your mess. Suduaya is a French artist who has produced a bunch of quality work, but this track isn't close to his best. It was in that mid tempo range and ended up being annoying and very repetitive as I mentioned. That being said, it's the perfect opportunity to take something mediocre and totally transform it into a beautiful butterfly. I rant about this all the damn time. And with this digital release you get 8 cracks at it. Pretty good odds right? Talk about a lazy effort. Technically all the artists adhere to the definition of a remix as some things were different. And truth be told all of the tracks were superior to the original. The By the Rain remix added a dark and evil glitchiness that was greatly appreciated. The Landswitcher Remix had a Shponglesque quality to it. So what's my gripe? While I liked every track but the original they weren't that different that listening to this was tiresome. Take all the remixes and sprinkle them over a few compilations. Easier to digest. So the tracks are good, but as an album I'm afraid it fails. Opportunity missed.
  14. Out now the new ALWOODS album "Stardust" ! About: Alwoods (John Rigas of Greece) is a man who needs no introduction. As an artist and DJ he makes no compromises when it’s time to rock the dance-floor, and is known as one of the ‘go-to’ artists for raising the vibration through perfect dance-floor friendly grooves. After his universally acclaimed releases "Aeolian Mode" and "Long Life Forest”, Alwoods latest stellar tracks have been tested everywhere on planet for the last four years, as he’s toured relentlessly on the psytrance festival circuit.. His new album "Stardust" is a major release guaranteed to set dance-floors on fire this summer and create a new level of psychedelic experience for lovers of slow trance, mid-tempo and progressive chill. Alwoods fans are in for a treat as are those who will be discovering the man and his work for the very first time. While on tour he discovered new production and composition techniques experimenting and collaborating with fellow musicians, and it really shows on this album. He’s also upgraded his studio gear along with his production skills, all for our listening pleasure. And the reactions have been off the charts for one simple reason: this is an exceptional album full of groovy signature Alwoods vibes not to be missed. “Stardust” is presented in the form of a hero’s journey: exploring the outer reaches of space -with all the thrill of new discoveries- from light, to darkness, and back to light. It’s a journey you’ll want to take again and again, as it’s filled with revelations that are revealed with each new listen. In classic Alwoods style, deep, trippy vibes connect the listener to the celestial spheres and a higher consciousness, while the driving beat keeps things very much dance-floor friendly, allowing for a unique and uplifting collective trance experience. All songs are in the well known 4/4 Alwoods style with a fantastic use of digital and analog sounds, polished in the mastering lab of Altar Records by DJ Zen in 24bits pristine audio. There are shimmering, atmospheric textures that combine with pulsing rhythms and solid drum programming, like the beating of a universal heart radiating purpose and luminescence. And the title track (‘Stardust’) is a mid-tempo groover featuring a snaky bass line, synth stabs, and dubbed out fx. It strikes an incredible balance between the original Goa Trance ethos and the newer Progressive Chill approach to production….a rich and rewarding experience that oscillates between edginess and resolution. John's new album is for keeps and the culmination of his years of production and touring experience. Hailing from Moscow, Dmitriy is known for his transcendental musical vision and devoted fan base…and with good reason: he’s been on the receiving end of glowing reviews in the international Psy Ambient scene since he first set out to create his unique brand of sonic psychedelia several years ago. This time out, he’s changing things up with a new artist name: Abiogenesis - a process which describes the origin of life on this planet some 4 billion years ago…and (drum roll) “…in the beginning, there was sound….!” And what a sound we’re treated to on his latest studio adventure, as Abiogenesis makes good use of his trademark soaring, hypnotic arpeggios that feature silky smooth glassy sounds contrasted with more acidic lines that interweave in perfect harmonic bliss. These are long, dreamy, yet engaging ambient and downtempo tracks where the melody and mood are the deciding factors and drive things along nicely, finely tuned to the visionary worlds of the ‘third eye’. Complemented by subtle use of female chants that give things a human and epic touch, along with pertinent chord changes, a tight, bouncy kick, heavenly pads, and big washes of sound that drift off into infinity, “Biosynthesis” is a masterful album and a true sonic delight that unfolds in the most patient, and yet powerful way imaginable. Abiogenesis has once again managed -in expert fashion- to create a flawless tapestry, easing the listener into new sonic horizons that will delight for years to come. In short, this is audio nirvana for your daily mana. Featuring outstanding and crystalline sound presented in 24bits / 48.000Hz, Dmitriy Neschadim’s third full length album was mastered by none other than fellow psy ambient alchemist Dimitriy Redko (@ Astropilot Studio). The buzz on the streets is that “Biosynthesis” is set to be released at large on January 27th, 2017, so mark your calendars, and get ready to take part in this most epic and ambient musical journey that’s guaranteed to bring you back to your roots and set your spirit free! 16. Artist: E-Mantra Title: Raining Lights Label: Altar Records Date: December, 2015 Part I 1. Starlights 2. I Shall Not Care 3. Veiled Clouds 4. Kaleidoscope Clouds (Main Sequence Star Remix) Part II 5. Gethsemane 6. The Darkest Hours 7. Resurrection 8. Fiat Lux For me this gif sums up the latest album by our dear Romanian friend Mr. Carpus. First off let's say that he has been one of the greatest producers of goa trance in the modern era. His three goa albums not to mention the stuff he did as Eleusyn are some of the most drifting and beautiful goa trance that you will find. This is his fifth foray into the downtempo/progressive arena and I'm of two minds. One, it's good music just like his previous efforts with this type of music. He gets all soundtracky with The Darkest Hour and that is easily my favorite. And that cow sure seems to dig it. But... I think our cup runneth over. How many times is he going to milk this cow with extremely similar music? I'll liken this to Cybernetika's recent output. Yeah his drum n bass sci-fi storytelling is awesome, but he's beating that horse to death. If he releases another one in that vein I might go to the pet store, buy a cat, and then drive home so I can throw it out the window. *Mr. Kelly Peta on line one" "Edith we talked about this. Say it." *sigh* "Mr. Fox line one." "That's better. Line one you say?" Look, I can take or leave the progressive tempo stuff and the downbeat is good, but it sounds similar to a lot of his output. While pleasing to the ear there wasn't anything that made this album a must have and to be honest I think it was the weakest in his catalog. I mean, I still bought it because I'm a completionist and I have problems, but normal folk may come away from this disappointed. Altar Bandcamp Psyshop
  17. :: PRESS RELEASE :: The duo ELEA is pleased to present their 6th album, « Oniros ». A journey to the heart of Ethno-Ambient, deep and mystical… About the album: Journey to the heart of Ethno-Ambient, deep and mystical, "Oniros" has matured through years of work and creative introspection. This new ELEA duo album reflects a period in life made of strong and enriching experiences, during which the artistic expression of Swann and Ely, and the precision work on arrangements, bring to fruition tracks charged with strength and meaning. The power of the album lies notably in the use of multiple sacred and shamanic instruments played live, with a large measure of improvisation. Several pieces also contain mantra chants. Included as well in the recording of the album are certain of their musician friends (Hideyo Blackmoon, Ismaël Diallo, Trio Zephyr, Amu Ahava and Sangit Sirus). "Oniros" is a rich, spellbinding album. It tells the story of the duo in a manner at once ecstatic, symbolic, almost supernatural, and always luminous. A message from Altar Records label chief, DJ Zen: A lot of music is getting made these days. One of the main missions of Altar Records (and any record label) is to sift through the infinite grains of sand and find those precious objects worthy of being shared with a wider audience. Sometimes it’s something as simple as the musical equivalent to a perfect sea shell; on a few lucky occasions it can even be a nugget of gold; in this instance, it’s a rare and one of a kind gem! Perfectly representing the essence of Altar Records and progressive chill, this newest release proves that people can count on Altar Records to find rare and outstanding releases for their music collection. Like Akshan, Alwoods, Cabeiri, Suduaya, Asura, AstroPilot, E-Mantra and a few other exceptional artists who have a singular talent when it comes to composing amazing music (along with brilliant mixing skills), this project presents both the technical and vibe aspects of creating music from two talented artists at the peak of their abilities. Hudur Shrim & Eyal Markovich have joined forces here to create Profondita, a new downtempo ambient and dance-floor project custom made for Altar Records. It features the best of both downtempo psy (psybient) and mid-tempo progressive sounds. Their debut album ‘Ciel’ is destined to be a memorable part of the growing Altar Records release catalog. We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do! Background on Bandmembers: Hudur Shrim: At 22 years of age Hudur already knows a lot about overcoming challenges. Having grown up in Lebanon, he lost his father and brother to the war -something that would have pushed most people over the edge. Searching for hope and security, the rest of the family quickly moved to Germany, and a few years after moved to Israël with one goal in mind: to start a new life. At school he channeled a lot of his anger into acts of rebellion, and was considered the 'bad boy' of the class until he met Eyal. Eyal was teaching English, and said to him “Come… I will teach you to make music. You may like it; it’s better than making trouble”. Hudur was just entering adolescence when they started with the basics on Cubase. He fell in love with it right away, intrigued by the fact that he could somehow make and express feelings with a computer and music program. So he "dived" into it with everything he had. Years later Eyal saw that he was actually highly skilled, and gifted with a great ear, and there was some talk about making music together. He was composing mainly on Logic Pro for about four years until Eyal showed him Ableton Live and Altar Records artists such as Alwoods and Cabeiri. This was a revelation to Hudur, and out of that revelation was born a new project with his long time teacher. As can be heard via his productions, Hudur’s not a fan of high bpm music, and greatly prefers slow psychedelic music and deep house. He’s also got a solo project called 'Ko-Doa' and makes progressive deep-house music under the European label EWM. For those who are curious, his last release (“Lima EP”) is available here: www.echowidemusic.com?p=1798 For Hudur, all’s well that ends well, as today he has a successful career in music, and gets to channel all the depths of emotions that he has to share via harmonious and inspiring compositions and creations. Eyal Markovich: Eyal (39 years old) fell in love with psytrance music back in 1997 as it was starting to emerge into the European underground scene after being restricted to the pilgrims of Goa for several years. One thing led to another, and he produced his first tracks at the start of the new millennia in the year 2000. In 2003, wanting to go further, he enrolled in a sound engineering program at a local college. By 2007 he’d gotten to that pivotal point that so many artists reach where he had to choose between becoming a music producer full time or getting a ‘real’ job to make a living. He chose the second option and became a teacher, but the future had other plans in store for him... A couple of years later, he lined up a new contract teaching as part of a special program at a high school for youth at risk. There, he used his production skills to teach young boys and girls how to create songs with Cubase and how to produce electronic music, while also offering History and English classes. That’s where he met Hudur, a 14 year old boy with a lot of passion for music and one of his noisiest (and brightest) students. Seeing his need for a direction, Eyal took it upon himself to teach Hudur everything he knew about music, starting with the basics and working his way up over time. After Hudur graduated high school in 2011 they went their separate ways, but still kept in touch. One fine summer after meeting up for coffee and reminiscing about old times, they decided to produce a track together called “Ciel”; it was such a great experience for both of them that they launched a joint project, and thus Profondita was born. Together they’re developing their very own sound by making modern downtempo-trance with deep psychedelic melodies, fat kicks and bass lines, and emotive vocals. Technophiles may be interested to know that Profondita work out of a studio using real synths such as the Access Virus TI Polar, Nord lead A1R, Moog Phatty, Arturia Microbrute, Maschine mk2, Novation Bass Station, and a Mac Book Pro (Retina) along with a UAD Apollo sound card. Love and music always wins, and the results speak for themselves here, taking you on a journey to the depth of your being, while the beats keep your feet happy, and begging for more! 19. Akshan - The Tree of Life Altar Records, 2012 Psy-Chill, Psy-Ambient, Trible-influenced Trance, etc 1.Aborigen's Dream09:17 2.Adagio for the Braves10:00 3.Angels Never Cry08:37 4.Symphonic Tendencies12:02 5.Eternity07:52 6.Back to the Origin09:11 7.Jungle Fever12:11 8.Waiting For You10:20 The Tree of Life is an awesome release. How often do I say that? You must hear this album. You must! 1. Aborigen's Dream begins with an ethereal, ambient introduction. It's relaxing and meditative. A beat soon arrives along with a downtempo, Goa-esque melody at around 1:20. Feelings emerge from the second minute forward though. The middle act involves the beat going mid-tempo, enticing a batch of catchy, new spices. The beat later changes up at around 5:55, a clever move, and the last third incorporates tribal influence that elevate the song even further. A- 2. Adagio for the Braves has more energy than the previous number. It's like out of a movie. Very beautiful and contemplative. After a voice sample in the middle act, it breaks out wonderfully, soaring above the clouds in the final act. This is a strong song with a wonderful ending. A 3. Angels Never Cry begins darker than the previous two numbers (quite catchy). Piano notes mix in with the provocative atmosphere nicely. The beat soon arrives, coupled with chilling atmosphere. The song becomes more psychedelic and arresting, though the middle third evolves a little less than the previous two songs. The final third is like clouds parting as light emerges, a wonderful surprise. Well done! B+ 4. Symphonic Tendencies has more oomph in the beat, strong ambient work, soundscapes, and a gripping buildup coupled with female hymns that enhance the driving rhythms. This is another solid number. A- 5. Eternity is more ambient-influenced, coupled with haunting echoes, delectable psy work, and an increase in energy later on. Excellent track. A- 6. Back to the Origin is another psychill-influenced track. A trekking tribal sound early on grabs my attention with another tune before the floating interlude. A sample soon arrives that sounds like Morpheus from The Matrix. After this, the feel of the song changes up; there's an echoed, clunking industrial sound (very catchy!). Suddenly at around 5:20 the entire beat switches up, producing a more electronic sounds. A psychedelic synth/sound emerges. The cool thing about this song is that it incorporates gentle with more energetic elements. The results are great. There even seems to be a touch of opera here around the beat. Very nice! A- 7. Jungle Fever is more goa influenced to me than any of the songs here due to a tasty layer in the last third, another great track! A- 8. Waiting For You reminds me of Asura a little in the opening before blosseming into its own. There are some really nice psy/skipping sounds, melodies, and relaxing/contemplative parts, the latter two further accentuated in the final moments. This is a beautiful closing track. I cannot find a single, negative thing to say about this album surprisingly. A- Conclusion Every track is strong on this album IMO. It's a rarity. Every song... numerous songs are excellent, wonderful! You must hear this album. It's an comprises a strong and engaging mixture of ambient, psy-chill, tribal, psy, even touches of Goa influence IMO! It's packed with harmony, feeling. It's evocative, provocative, contemplative. We need albums like these filled with heart and soul. Tracks comprise substantial chapters in a thoughtful and developed story loaded with creativity, catchy sound/melody work, atmosphere, and more. The songs develop and evolve throughout. There are no fillers. Some of the BEST songs I have heard IN YEARS are on this album. I love the last act of track 2, numerous others, and the strong variety throughout. Every song is different, distinct, unique, and memorable. This album deserves more people to be aware of its existence, hear and enjoy. Thank you Akshan and Altar Records for this passionately produced and imaginative release. Highly Recommended! Favorite tracks - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8... oh, that's all of them. 20. Charles Farewell (aka Asura) is well known as one of the pioneers of psychill music. His deep, slowed down and tripped out beats redefined the genre. What a lot of people don’t realize is that he’s also a genius when it comes to making elevating, uptempo trance. One of the defining qualities of his music is its ability to transport us ever further with each listen. And that quality is very much on display here as we’re teleported up to the higher spheres with this new EP entitled "Eternal Sunshine”. An engaging acid synth line, rich pads, heavenly arpeggios, and lush angelic choirs (all dripping with audio sunshine) counterpoint his hypnotic and locked in, gritty approach to the drums. This is a tune that harks back to the golden years of trance, when productions were simpler, yet incredible powerful and effective. Combined with an impeccable arrangement and gorgeous breakdowns, "Eternal Sunshine” opens the doors to the inner spheres of nirvana on any dance-floor, creating a state of trance with an incredible amount of grace. The track is already an instant underground classic, played frequently across Canada by DJs in the know. Thanks to their support, it's become a 'must' on the trance-floor of each and every festival. Altar Records offers you this jewel of a release with great pleasure. Asura’s "Eternal Sunshine” is guaranteed to brighten your day and light up any dance-floor. 21. E-MANTRA ::: Raining Lights New album out now! :: PRESS RELEASE :: Acclaimed Goa Trance producer Emanuel Carpus (aka E-Mantra) returns for his fifth album with Altar records, with the brilliantly named “Raining Lights”, and what a beauty it is! Each song tells a story. This happens through his choice of sounds, and of course arrangements. Textures are lush, as melody lines are tripped out with delays that intertwine and morph in and out of the soundscape. His leads often have a modulating acid tinge that harken back to classic early TIP releases. Lush, mysterious, and completely hypnotic, these are songs that are a true joy to listen to. E-Mantra is always upping his game with each release, making him one of the most revered and respected producers from Eastern Europe, with several thousand followers on Soundcloud, and excellent reviews over the span of his career. One of the reasons he’s so popular is he represented Goa Trance at a time when Psytrance was on the upswing, so for fans of the old-school he became a sort of musical saviour. And while he’s moved on to other sounds to satisfy his artistic needs, he still maintains that respect for his roots, all with a polished, modern production that really allows the listener to get into a state of trance. For his latest sonic adventure, he highlights his mastery of his favourite genres by crafting a finely tuned tale that progresses seamlessly. The journey starts with an immersion into the depth of sound, an emotional tale that is sure to resonate. Here, he’s reaching the kind of spaces that people loved with the release of his 2012 "Silence" album. Things heat up slowly, and build to satisfying dance-floor oriented beats (peaking with a stunning remix of Kaleidoscope Clouds), and then onto more introspective and meditative vibes in the last stanza. The result is a cohesive experience that creates a sense of euphoria sure to thrill fans both new and old alike. The album title “Raining Lights” perfectly describes this release, as rain is both nourishing and cleansing, and also refers to water - a symbol of our emotions - and emotions are very present here. ‘Lights’ touches upon the healing and luminous aspect of his music. One gets the feeling he’s subconsciously downloading some advanced information. Yes, he moves into dark spaces at times, where thunderclouds appear briefly, but it’s always to put things in context and come back to the essence: radiant light. Each track is a gem, shining both on its own and within the constellation of lights that make up the entire album. In closing, E-Mantra once again proves himself to be the master of flow, and with this modern day classic, offers us a glorious musical experience that stands out no matter what the genre. “Raining Lights” promises to warm your hearts for the coming winter in 2016. 23. "Organic Beats Vol.4" As artists must develop over time, and they do this by examining and exploring the implications and ramifications of their personal vision of existence. In other words, they explore their philosophy of life. When the artist combines this activity with their view of a particular branch of the arts - per instance making new music - what emerges is their artistic vision; the artist’s preferred subject matter and style. The combination is sometimes so unique that the artist’s works, whatever they may be, are instantly recognizable. E-Mantra & Reasonandu - Words You Said 5. Stillness of Dawn 6. Sundial Aeon - Drifting Radio Frequencies (E-Mantra Remix) 7. Moon Drifter 8. Night Hex - Invocation 9. Shivers Art. You painted a f*cking soup can. Good for you. I can go to Food Lion and see six pallets of those. That's just my 2 cents. Drugs are bad, okay? Still think that last tab of acid was a good idea? But at least your shoes are pink so...awareness and sh*t. Ho-lee-sh*t. You just painted a picture of your dirty feet. How many millions did that sell for? These are just a few examples of why you can't judge what is art and what isn't. Eye of the beholder. Even though the above are just some random examples and seem ridiculous to me I am not the end all and be all of opinions. Like you I have one and it's no more or less accurate than yours. Well, maybe yours (points to guy with the dirty feet.) Take a shower man this ain't Woodstock. Art is subjective. And artists regardless of medium tend to be some odd f*ckers. Might be what sets them apart from the rest of the normals. I imagine Emmanuel is no different. Don't know him, but what I do know is that in his chosen medium he can do no wrong. Having already conquered goa he has almost done the same to psychill. Echoes From the Void is his fourth album in the downtempo genre and surprise surprise he explores new territory. The first half of the album is an ambient experience exploring mystical soundscapes. Ideal for waking up early and catching the rising sun from atop some lofty snow capped peak. Which is what I would've done if I didn't have kids. Floating voices soar and echo above warm pads as he slowly brings you along. Measured break beats keep the tempo whilst hypnotic melodies lull you into a dream state. Words You Said is the first surprise being more uplifting than his usual moody downtempo style. The second half of the album is progressive trance with a few showcasing the goa style we have come to expect from this artist. His Nighthex alias in particular produced a very enjoyable track. E-mantra is goa trance first and foremost, but he has also proven himself in the downtempo and ambient genre. With this album he explores the progressive arena with fine results. He's an artist that I hope continues to stretch his creative imagination as we the listeners will all be the better for it. Highly recommended to add to your E-mantra collection. Altar Bandcamp Mdk
  25. Blue Lunar Monkey All One Altar Records Tracklist: 1. Omkara 2. One Love 3. Metilbufotenina 4. The Unknown 5. Interstellar Travel 6. Dream Wonderland 7. Union If you've enjoyed anything from this Mexican producer's previous three full-length down tempo albums then you'll be sure to find much to appreciate on "All One." At his very best (which he offers up quite often), Blue Lunar Monkey is pure magic. And at his least, his tunes are good without ever sounding like filler. In short, this is a very solid outing for the veteran. Of course, there are many out there who need to know if this is the best album that the Monkey has yet come up with, if his art has come to the pinnacle of his abilities. To that, I'm not so sure there is a "best" album from this guy. Perhaps his impressive debut on 2007's "2012" is his best or maybe the gorgeousness of 2011's "Here And Now" is. No question, there's much evidence for 2013's "Spirit Molecule" to be his signature work. However, there are many reasons to consider this outing as his best yet. That's kind of the point. Blue Lunar Monkey is a very gifted producer and he taps into many of the same heavenly frequencies that he has in the past making the very best moments of "All One" equal to the very best moments of any other track he has ever created. If that means he has not progressed much as an artist then so be it. More accurately, perhaps, is that this is a great producer who is continuing to make some very great music. The 10-minute "Omkara" opener is pure bliss, a spiritual journey of sound where the samples are a lovely invocation toward the listener's relaxation and the constant "Om" chants in the background are hypnotically beautiful without ever becoming too chilled-out. Here, on this great track, the Monkey grooves and weaves a very wonderful spell. Too, on the sunny dub follow-up of "One Love" much magic is conjured from his hands and mind, remembering not only the lovely dub moments of his own history but also seeming to recall some of the most pleasing times of another great down tempo producer, Androcell. The swaying dub and spirit-soaring rhythms and melodies on "Union" seems to combine the best of those first two tracks and emerges as a staggeringly good album closer. "Interstellar Travel" is an outer space gem, content to float among the star dust with eyes wide open at the wonder of the galaxy's expanse, an imaginative seven-minute piece of gold. And if there are three other tracks here that do not work nearly as well the feeling is that BLM did not skimp on the quality of those. He certainly tried but I found different things not nearly as enjoyable, be it with some of the melodies or rhythms. Long one of my personal favorites for down tempo producers, overall, "All One" is a testament to how good Blue Lunar Monkey is at his craft. No better than any other album he has created but just as equally good as he has ever been before, a fantastic continuation of one man's excellence at making soothing and wonderfully rhythmic music.
