  1. Norma Project & Nature Life Ovnimoon Records Tracklist: 1. Digital Age 2. Life 3. Moon Above The Sky Another great one from Ovnimoon Records. Teaming Serbian producer Norma Project with Nature (fresh off a co-production release with Ascent earlier this year, also from Ovnimoon) these are three patient moving tracks characterized by a slow-moving storm of deep rumbling bass, progressive-speed grooves and loads and loads of atmosphere. In fact, all three tracks just drip with the stuff. Whether you're into progressive or not, it's pretty fascinating to get to the second listen of this one and watch the unseen levels begin to reveal themselves, unlock their secrets to your senses. Each track is filled with layers, each with a surprising amount of depth, putting this well beyond commonplace progressive psy - the depth makes for emotional pools and levels of beauty not found much elsewhere outside of this label. Which is kind of the point I'm leading up to. "Digital Age," "Life" and "Moon Above The Sky" are all very much Ovnimoon Records tracks, very professionally handled and delivered by these two producers. That said, this is pretty standard fare for the label, same-sounding excellence that will either impress or annoy if you've felt like you have done this EP before. I fall into the impressed category. Ovnimoon - Holistic

Ovnimoon Holistic Ovnimoon Records Tracklist: 1. The Spirit 2. Emotional Biodecodification 3. Fear 4. You Can Do This 5. The Power 6. Tesoro Interior 7. Dual Resonance - Passing Clouds (Ovnimoon Remix) 8. Trance Dance It always comes with a new release by a favorite artist. A whole bunch of excitement for something new and unheard, a little anxiety about the possibility of it being disappointing and altering your opinion about the artist. But, then, this is Hector Ovnimoon we are talking about and there is that little voice in the back of my head telling me he'll probably exceed all my expectations. I'm not sure if this is his masterpiece but there is definitely that possibility and only time can tell for sure. This is by all standards what Ovnimoon has set down for himself over the years, across several of his own great artist albums, across the several awesome albums of other artists and compilations he has released through his baby, Ovnimoon Records. This is an Ovnimoon album and it lives up to all the lofty standards associated with that name. There are no artistic surprises in "Holistic," nothing groundbreaking, nothing that Hector Ovnimoon has not already created on other tracks. There is a whole lot of spiritually uplifting psytrance with deliciously thick progressive flavors and lovely goa traces set to a deliriously good full-on pace. This is exactly who Ovnimoon is as an artist and he should not be faulted for offering up nothing new with "Holistic." Quite simply, you can never have too much of a very great thing. From the first moments of the ethereal vocals to the distant but oncoming rumbles of the bass to the addictive melodies on "Spirit," it is clear very quickly that this album will be something special. Certainly "Spirit" is one of the very best of this bunch but by no means does Ovnimoon use up his best ideas on the intro. "Emotional Biodecodification" is the remarkable follow-up. What follows beyond the initial serenity is nothing short of a cleansing, a spiritual reset button that liberates with lovely organic instruments creating catchy melodies that linger long after the track is over and a rollicking psytrance structure that seeks out higher planes of existence and attains them. Throughout "Holistic" rich, talky instructional speeches guiding one through various degrees of spiritual enrichment are provided with none of the moments ever becoming preachy or intrusive. The pleasing insight that loss of imagination is what causes "Fear" adds intelligence to a superb track. "You Can Do This" and "Tesoro Interior" are both solid tracks and since neither offer up anything of great note perhaps the most that can be said about them is that they are excellent filler. "The Power" changes the direction of "Holistic" from full-on bliss to lovely goa pastures for a few wonderful minutes. Ovnimoon's remix of Dual Resonance is a bit too far on the progressive side for my tastes. Though, I suspect that a pair of headphones and a lie-down in the grass to watch "Passing Clouds" may unlock levels of beauty not available to passive listeners. Nothing short of captivating occurs on "Trance Dance" where it seems the ongoing waves of awesome energy have to break at some point yet continues to build and build, constantly paying off stunning riches in sound. For an album as accomplished and near-perfect as "Holistic" it only makes sense that the conclusion should be so satisfying and comfortably intense. On first listen, I was impressed. On second listen, I was convinced of its greatness. On the third listen, I was smitten and knew it had exceeded all of my expectations, just as that little voice in the back of my head suspected it might. ()
  3. Ascent, Nature Hypnotico Ovnimoon Records Tracklist: 1. Your Mind 2. Spiritualism 3. Transmutation (Remix of Ovnimoon) 4. Magic Box 5. Forest Peace 6. Nature Frequencies 7. Telekineza 8. Mistika 9. 4 Shamans 10. Hypnotico Very nice goa touches throughout and an album cover that could very well dress an Etnica release. The thing, though, is anyone venturing into this body of work should have a very strong taste for progressive psy. "Hypnotico" is a good release with some pleasant Middle Eastern sounds and shamanistic samples well-placed in many of the tracks. The nice goa vibes rolling through "Spiritualism," "Magic Box" and "Nature Frequencies" add depth, dimension and imagination to these proceedings. However, without that strong taste for progressive (even if this may be quality Ovnimoon progressive) chances are things will begin to feel same-sounding after a couple of tracks. No doubt, "Hypnotico" deserves to fly the Ovnimoon Records stripes on its cover as it certainly does not lack for quality or substance. But at no point did I find this work hypnotic, either. The best track is Ascent and Nature's remix of Ovnimoon's awesome "Transmutation." The energy takes off as this full-on beauty propels itself forward and as the track continues on it becomes apparent that, by comparison, much of "Hypnotico" is lacking that "something special" that the great Ovnimoon has in abundance. Like in other years, there will probably be a slew of releases from this high-quality label before 2015 is said and done. Chances are, you will not get to most of them. Unless you are very much into progressive, you should feel ok with "Hypnotico" being one of those Ovnimoon Records releases you do not get to. ()
  4. Artist: Elgiva Title: Mysticism Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: May, 2014 1. Izolan (Elgiva Rmx) - Ovnimoon & Middle Mode 2. Unrevealed Secrets 3. Source of Power 4. The Prophet 5. Mysticism 6. Strange Thoughts 7. Forest of Fairies 8. Morning Sun 9. Adrenaline Rush How does Hector do it? Is he an international drug kingpin? A massively successful pimp with hoes in different area codes? Perhaps a lawyer who has made a small fortune defending kingpins and pimps? However it comes to be his label has released about 50 kilos of albums. Like the tides of the ocean they just keep coming. And it's not like he just throws some sh*t against the wall to see what sticks. Most everything I've heard has been of pretty good quality. And this without much publicity. Which goes to show you how important word of mouth is. Elgiva is Bojan Stojiljkovic (Ascent) and Milan Rakic from Serbia. Of course why wouldn't they be? This duo has assembled a brilliant album. Like Hector himself they combine progressive trance with hard hitting psy and then add some goa flavor. Basically a trifecta of awesome. Melodic and powerful they also don't forget to pay attention to the details. Timely and descriptive breaks really allow the tracks to flourish. It strikes a good balance between being aggressive and dreamy. Serbians man, it looks like they actually read the manual for their software. Your move Israel. When you're purchasing Ovnimoon's Trancemutation of the Mind make sure you slide this into your basket for a potent one two punch. I think whatever Hector actually does to make so many good albums happen he's probably gonna need bail money. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  5. Artist: Psilocybian Title: Dreamtime Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: October, 2013 1. Altjira with Braincell 2. Balangurrk with Via Axis 3. Dance of the Antelope with HoTep 4. Rainbow Serpent with Audioform 5. Honey Ant with Wizack Twizack 6. Nibulin 7. Wutjbin 8. Kutu Kari 9. Lamang 10.Alterjinga with Deimos You know not all black people have rhythm. And surely not every Asian subsists on rice alone Stereotypes are usually not true. They are commonly born out of fear and ignorance and can be just... Ok so that one's pretty true. Jesus Conan you look like you're trying to work out a log. But you know there are exceptions to the rule in a lot of... Yes Mexican food will do that to you. But if I said the Balkan people are taking over psytrance, I don't believe that to be hyperbole. F*ck he even has a neighbor (Hotep) on the album. The only neighbor I have is a redneck that hates black people and I don't think he plays an instrument unless it's that jug with the 3 x's on it. Whether it's progressive or goa trance they seem to have their finger on the pulse of electronic music. Case in point, Psilocybian is Sasa Dukic with his 3rd and most recent album and boy is it a cracker. If you didn't get a chance to check out his 2nd, Brain Dissolver you will soon. There has been a steady increase in quality with his releases and he is certainly moving in the right psychedelic direction. This release is visceral. Primal. Futuristic. Echoing effects along an infinite strand of DNA that never seems to stop unraveling. Bubbling sounds that surf atop a sea of electronic froth. The layers are many and he puts the sounds together seamlessly atop thumping beats. Apparently he got the idea for this release from the Otherland book series by Tad Williams. I tried to read that book, but it got hard so I quit. More of a pictures kinda guy I guess. So Kudos to him for pushing through. Some of the track names are aboriginal which means that I can't make fun of them. Well played sir, well played. He wants you to compose your own dreams and this music makes it very easy. While I wasn't impressed with the cover from his last effort this one gets top marks. He did it himself and and it's a reflection of the myriad thoughts running through his mind. Cyclops with a tennis racket? Elephant riding a nuclear weapon? That's out there dude. I haven't seen that kind of mental depravity since Wizack Twizack. And oh yeah he makes an appearance with several other artists on some great collaborations. There are some that may say it can get a little samey, but for me it was all part of the journey. It's a quality album that may restore your faith in psytrance with it's dark vibe and outstanding production. Highly recommended. Samples Bandcamp Mdk
  6. Artist: Ascent Title: Colored Reality EP Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: April, 2013 1. Happiness 2. Lights 3. Imagination 4. Progressive Dream This is my second experience with this artist and it just keeps getting better. Or maintains it's current level of awesomeness. His brand of psy-gressive is glorious and fits well with the Ovnimoon style. If you're a fan of the layered melodic progressive trance that's floating around these days then you'll love this. The atmospheric value is off the charts and it's loaded with sounds to give it depth. Iono? Nope. Ovnimoon. I hope you're paying attention to this label because they are releasing top quality music at a rapid pace. This is no exception. Think of them like Mcdonald's except they're serving up real meat. 8. Artist: Hotep Title: Transformation of Light Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: June, 2013 1. And just a pinch of magic 2. Happyland 3. Nature and society 4. Loud Thoughts 5. Portal to the future (feat. Electyxeed) 6. Free Transform (Hotep rmx) - Wizack Twizack 7. Squiggly Lines (feat. Psilocybian) 8. Explore the universe 9. Ay Caramba 10. A joint and cup of coffee "Do we occupy a special place in the cosmos, or are we merely a celestial footnote? Is the universe welcoming or hostile? We can stand here forever wondering. Or we could leave home on the ultimate adventure." Hotep- an Egyptian word roughly meaning to be satisfied, to be at peace. Yeah that seems to be working out. I'm beginning to believe there is no word for peace in the Muslim world. And that's why they fight all the time...they're confused. We keep saying peace and maybe in Arabic that means Jihad. Meh, not for me to tell them how to live their lives. That's a job for the white man's government. So Egypt isn't at peace, but a young Croatian man seems to be. I tell you the Balkans has been erupting with talent in the electronic scene as it seems every citizen is putting out a quality album. We have government issued health care and they have government issued Cubase. Think I'm joking? This is Psilocybian's neighbor. His neighbor. I have two neighbors. One hates black people and the other one is a pasty middle aged white lady in coveralls that clearly don't cover all. Some things can't be unseen. Anyway a debut album from this part of the world is becoming rather unremarkable. What would be remarkable is if it sucked. Hello? Is this thing on? It's Psilocybian's neighbor?!? The first couple of tracks were to warm you up. Not bad, but nothing spectacular either. When Nature and Society arrive it's a bit thicker with more layers and a goa undercurrent that reminds me of some of the classics back in the day. Syb Unity to be exact. Loud Thoughts is darker with a complex evil sneer as if the forest was threatening to swallow me whole. And it is a dark album with echoing effects and layers of sinister synthesizers. His remix of Wizack's Free Transform takes an already great track and ratchets up the tension. Everything seems so shiny! Squiggly Lines is just a thumping good time from these psychedelic titans. Ay Caramba is an interesting combination of darkpsy textures and tech-trance mechanics. And he closes with a downtempo track that is quirky and weird yet enjoyable. This album showed me the range this guy has. First I will say it was a solid release. Not stellar, but solid. A showcase of his talent in the night time full-on sub genre, it also revealed how competent he was in other styles. Goa, downtempo, tech...he's got it. He seems to be on the right track and I imagine his future compositions will become more complex and detailed. Looking for ward to it. Beatport Psyshop Beatspace Goa Store Mdk

  10. Artist: Main Sequence Star Title: Archaea EP Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: April, 2013 1. Archaea 2. Archaea (Nova Fractal Beat Mix) The busiest man in psytrance (other than Zyce) is stretching his creative muscles yet again with another side project. Renato Brnic is the mind behind Nova Fractal who most recently released Fractal Landscape and his compilation The Call of Goa to superb results. It's a two track wav download that is more outer space psytrance than goa. The first track is very atmospheric and deep with lots of layers above a breakbeat rhythm. He then remixes himself and makes a good track...gooder by making it more hypnotic. It's only 3 bucks at Beatport and I would say if you like his previous work, money well spent. Beatport Mdk
  11. Artist: Various Title: Transitions In Trance Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: November, 2011 1. Minimal Session - HAGGEN 2. Floating in the space - PROTOACTIVE 3. Aftermath 11 - MAN MACHINE 4. Crystal - NERSO 5. Energy of life - OVNIMOON 6. Orbiting - WIZACK TWIZACK 7. Organic Interface - PSILOCYBIAN 8. Dark Tale - SPIRIT ARCHITECT 9. DNP2 - HYDROGENERATOR 10. Why can you control time - BODHI TREE I know quality when I see it. Awe.some. Whether Hector Ovnimoon is performing or running a label his work is of very high quality. What's not to love? The music emanating from this guy is layered and melodic, thick with atmosphere and psychedelia. And now he's got a sub label for goa trance? I might just have to give him my credit card to keep on file. I almost missed this release, but eventually it got the attention it deserves. Minimal Session- "Leading medical researchers on youngsters have shown that marijuana is the most dangerous drug." Said every old white man who wished he had tried it in his youth. Ever. The opening track is minimal in structure, but that's where the similarities end. Gooey and bubbling sounds come to a frothy head making it seem fuller than your dad's minimal. Nothing spectacular, but a good opener. Floating in the Space- Protoactive is Allen Feytor and he's come up with some great tunes. Leaving the minimal landscape behind we are now hiking in wide open melodic progressive country. Bass sweeps and synth layers are the order of the day. Changes in time happen smoothly with this one. Aftermath 11- There is a definite robotic feel to this track and I mean that in a good way. Crystal- One of the leaders in the progressive scene Nerso needs no introduction. His distinctive echoing style is on full display as sounds bounce off each other. There is a darkness here as chunky leads tumble over each other like water molecules. Super. Energy of Life- El jefe delivers a track that now climbs into psy-gressive territory. Aggressive along with juicy sounds and goa tendencies. He's got his foot on the reverb pedal and it ain't coming off anytime soon. Deep pads and a sh*tload of atmosphere. This is the soundtrack to outer space. Outstanding. Orbiting- "Tell us how to get back to Earth, I beg you!" No, no really...the key, th-the key is right there! It's already in the ignition. You don't have to...that's not how you jump start... *sigh* If you see Wizack on the track list you know things are gonna get psychedelic. Known primarily for his dark side this is perhaps the leas dark track I've heard from him. Crazy leads though, and I hear some 303's in there which makes me smile. Organic Interface- "I know this is gonna sound crazy, in fact this is kinda crazy, but what if the object was symbiotic in nature. Just say that it wasn't entirely mechanical, that it needed some type of organic interface." Sasa Dukic is one of the best psytrance producers out there not to mention a helluva nice guy. His albums Dreamtime and Brain Dissolver are exactly what psytrance should be. That opening sample and what he does to it sets the tone. Cyber juicy leads are everywhere with a sinister backdrop. The short break brings in a new lead all the while keeping in pumping. Dark Tale- More psy-gressive that takes you in. Not as deep as the other tracks, but not bad. DNP2- I wasn't aware that this project was still active. Surprise surprise. It's full on psytrance now with the darkest track yet. And boy are they giving the business to Tokyo Electric. Why Can't You Control Time- They end this ride with a psychedelic downtempo track that is anything but relaxing. High speed percussion and a thumping kick hammer the point home. Great compilation and in a time when a lot of labels struggle to do one thing very well, this one does it all very well. Anyone who has read my reviews knows my dislike for minimal, but they even made that seem interesting. With strong and melodic progressive trance the ride is a good one full to the brim with effects and psychedelia. Highly recommended. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

    Om - Altona

Artist: Om Title: Altona Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: November, 2011 1. Te Extrano 2. Lost Look 3. La Esperanza 4. Desesperacion 5. Revivir 6. Earthquake Feelings 7. Enjoy the meditation 8. La Duda 9. Hijos 10. Viene Ovnimoon must be a label with deep pockets because they seem to churn out an album every week. Hector Stuardo is the jefe there and his psy-gressive style usually yields positive results. But here he adopts a personality that moves in an entirely different direction. Slowly. Very slowly. Seems Hector decided to try his hand at the drone/ambient style of things. Now drone, at least for me, has a negative connotation. As in "My wife continued to drone on and on about nothing in particular." Words that you never say to your wife chapter 7. Anyways, the main thing this will do is relax you. Long and I do mean long pads float slowly by like cotton candy clouds and before you know it 5 minutes went by. Because a lot isn't happening with the music it allows your mind becomes the storyteller to weave a tale to which even you don't know the ending. Or at least think of all the sh*t you need to do today. Desesperacion was more dark ambient with a creepy feel, but even that one had him just turning the volume down in the middle and then turning it back up. I might not be the best person to review drone music. But because I don't normally travel in that genre maybe I am precisely what you need. There's music that is relaxing and engaging. Altona was a lot of the former and not enough of the latter. You know what this is...background noise. Meditation music. Hell, he even names one of his tracks Enjoy the meditation. If the mind is not challenged or stimulated then it shall wander. I expect to hear this music when I'm getting a hot stone massage by a nude Salma Hayek. A guy can dream can't he? "OMG Hector tried to kill the vice president!!!" Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

But I don't have one of those...so I'll tell you what happened to me Sunday. The wife had me out looking for furniture at a consignment shop and she found a table that she liked so we give the old lady the credit card and she swipes it. Then I hear her swipe it again. This is then followed by her saying, "This isn't how the machine at my other job works." I immediately hopped the counter and well, just did what we all want to do. So a table that costs 60 dollars and 90 cents has given my account a titanic like sideswipe of $609.00! Twice. Doing the math, that's $1218 for a piece of sh*t table that someone was only too happy to get rid of. Look I want to help, but I cannot get the country out of a recession all by myself. Can't do it. It's now Wednesday and it is still not resolved thereby setting my financial house in chaos, as I have scheduled bill payments weeks in advance. I know it was an accident. I know mistakes happen. But this is why I have long been an advocate of sending all the elderly to an island where it's warm (they like that) for further study. Sh*t don't work right after a certain number of years. Anyway... Feelings...nothing more than feelings...Hector Stuardo is at it again with his label's 21st release. I was actually lucky to catch him at a festival here in the states so I was pretty excited. He was a...he was a lot shorter than I expected. But good things come in small packages. And if you are a fan of progressive trance than this will probably be good for your fix. Bouncy and bubbly beats with a healthy dose of dark atmosphere. It's ideal for melting away into a hallucination of your choosing with great effects and sky spanning washes Sonoric Depth is a perfect example of a track being melodic without a real melody to hold on to. Just creepy sounds echoing over your shoulder. Static (2011 Remix)- It begins slowly, maybe sounding like every other progressive track you have ever heard. Two and a half minutes in and I'm thinking, "Wow how about picking up the pace a little bit?" And he does albeit slowly. Unremarkable for sure, but somehow it fits within the scope of this compilation. Geared to a feeling or a vibe rather than a dance floor smasher. Once Upon A Time (Liquid Sound Remix)- "No matter what he does, every person on Earth plays a central role in the history of the world. Normally he doesn't know it." Following the same formula as the last track, it builds slowly but the sample at least gives me something to hold on to. But that's the problem with a 9 minute track, you gotta fill it up. It's not bad, but too often I found myself glazing over like I stayed up past my bedtime. I Am You- The boss is here to right this ship and he brings along Daniel Mair who I first became aware of with his Sleeping Giant EP. More of the same slow start, but once the chant arrives it's a little bit darker. The final melody helps thicken things up a bit, saving it from coasting down the hill into disappointment lake. Mini Big X- If the name Ralph Knobloch seems familiar it's because he is also behind the project Braincell. Here he operates on a slightly minimal scale with eerie melodies above a galloping bass line. I see he has 3 albums to his credit with this project, but this track isn't making me want to explore them. Is this intermission music? The groove is there, but it feels empty. Another coaster to the finish. What are you, the Chinese badminton team, trying to throw the compilation? "This make chairman Mao most unhappy!" Trip Inside Yourself- Riding a wave of indifference brings me to this track and things begin to turn around. Dark, bubbly, and thumping with spooky effects sums this puppy up. An awesome break cements its place as one of the winners of this comp. It seems funny that one of the best tracks leaves me with the least to say. Just get lost in this one. Beer Lovers- Oh boy another long one. *gets carving knives out* Nah, you know what? I don't have the energy for this. Bruce, you got this? "The dragon laughs at your attempt to keep me awake!" In Motion To The Ocean- "It's like you come onto this planet with a crayon box. Now you may get the 8-pack, you may get the 16 pack...but it's all in what you do with the crayons, the colors that you're given. And don't worry about drawing within the lines or coloring outside the lines I say color outside the lines, you know what I mean? Color wildly color right off the page, hey...don't box me in. We're in motion to the ocean." "Yeah, how do you like it motherf*cker!?! Oops, missed a spot. Stay in the lines b*tch!" After that wonderful Waking Life sample it's a smooth ride all the way through. Soft and drifting breaks with melodies coming and going like the tide. Very entertaining. Unique (Side Winder Remix)- "Strange watching these film fragments...like looking through binoculars.." I never heard the original, but this maintains the eerie vibe on this compilation. It churns through it's rotation in the beginning, but then after the break melodies fire out like a sprinkler on an August afternoon. Unique? Nah, but not bad at all. Open The Gate- We close out the compilation with relative newcomer Dejan Jovanovic from Serbia and he delivers a dark bomb! Very aggressive and pretty damn hard for a progressive track. Synths ripple with undercurrents of dread as leads that sound like a whale fight roar in anger. More of this please. Conclusion? A bunch of mediocre tracks book-ended by some really powerful ones. Honorable mention goes to Mind Paradise and Liquid Sound for a very engrossing effort. None of the tracks are bad however there were too many that went on too long without much happening. This is a compilation from which I would digitally cherry pick. If I had to put a number on it? 3.5 or 3.75 out of 5. Psyshop Beatspace Goa Store Mdk
