Hi everybody Since I discovered Psychedelic Trance, there are approximately 1-2 years I have never ceased to observe what I had observed in the Hardcore scene, Industrial, Rock,...etc : there are so many styles and sub-styles that it becomes a mess to find a way and we sometimes end (or even often) to nonsensical debates about how we will appoint or not appoint, define or not define, this or that music or this or that style. So I decided there are now more than a year to create a doc in PDF form gathering all styles of Psychedelic Trance and their characteristics without making pies of texts to infinity and beyond. It will be a little more than a year (or almost, must take breaks anyway ) to skim all anglophone and francophone forums, searching the most representative artists of every style, and recovering some information and definitions stuffed with spelling mistakes on Wikipedia, clumsy repetitions, discount translations all straight out of the English version of Wikipedia passed under Google Translate, and other calamities, and to correct then to complement them. Obviously, if you find an ugly lack of agreement/spelling well hidden in the bushes, an incomplete definition, or one of your prefered style/artist thatsmasheseverythingbutreallyeverything that is not referenced, feel free to sh*t in my face please let me know, it will be corrected in the shortest possible time if need there.   2. Hello Everyone! I used to have a thread here with DAT Records update but well, I have no idea where it has gone, so I thought I could start a new one anyway. I have been extremely busy in the last months because I was working on a lot of things, some of which were properly announced and on some others that are still secret and waiting to be told . Let me start with announcing that finally I have updated the website of DAT: http://www.datrecords.it/ I have added the News where I will always have the 3 latest pages and then there are proper sections for all that I do with the label: Releases, the Mind Rewind saga, the T-shirts (yay!), and the Vinyl crowdfunding, which really needs your help in this final stage. Every other page has been updated as well so to make it look better and v2.0 so please, have a look. Then speaking of releases I am happy to announce this week, on the 4th of April 2014 the 2 newest singles will come out, and how good they are, really! You'd hear soon enough... Virtuart & Symbiote. Then I can tell you that the first VA on DAT will come out in the near future and will be called Analog Dreams, it's part of a trilogy that hopefully will have a release every year. As soon as I receive the last contract signed I will announce the tracklist on another thread and boy you don't wanna miss this one. Then after that there will be a 2CD Album, something really unexpected (not yet IFO guys) but that will be a blasting surprise, I can promise you that... Some say it hasn't been a good year for goa, but I think a lot of quality albums and releases have seen the light of day this year. We had the unexpected and amazing Hypnoxock album (still have to comment there) that came out of nowhere and many others. Next in line, but certainly not least, hell no!, is JaraLuca from Poland. Fata Morgana is JaraLuca's 2nd artist album, released on Goa Madness records, which is catching up big time. His first album was Perpetuum Mobile of which I remember star tracks such as Existence, Minds Circus and Insomnia. The rest I have forgotten, sorry to say. But here we have Fata Morgana. With beautiful artwork. Every track oozes goa from start to finish. The opening track is easy, nothing too phrenetic. An easy start, but no peak timer. Second up we have Solar Spectrum which gradually takes it up a notch but doesn't quite explode. Goa is there, but it's not immersive. Anyway, we are warmed up. These two tracks are solid! Brace yourselves, because play time is over and JaraLuca unleashes all his devils from now on. 604 caliber, Acidic Goacamole (haha, what a title man!), Just a little madness and Fata Morgana are crafted near perfection. I find myself in a whole different universe while listening to these goa monsters. Always changing, acidic, energetic,... just the way you expect them to go. This is the real deal here. Beautiful sounds, very clear but most importantly a story to go crazy on! Equilibrium could have been a bit crazier and daring, but it's still solid goa. A remix is supposed to take a track to a whole new level or to use a different approach. Exactly what JaraLuca does to Lektro Spectral Daze's "Quite A Trip". A remix so good it already ended up on LSD's latest album in 2016. Better than the original if you ask me. Wider, spacier, better. The, almost obligatory, downtempo closing track fulfils my satisfaction as my mind can come to ease in a decent yet hypnotic way. What an outstanding job by JaraLuca! He has grown so much in production and story telling. This album makes me smile all the way because it is such crazy good smashing goa trance. How do you make this stellar music? It remains a mystery to me! I'm having so much fun listening to it and that's what it's all about. I can't wait to see him live one day in Belgium. Amazing music. What an effort! It is the word I'd use to describe Ecstatic Planet. What this album avoids pretty well is using useless and predictable melodies and instead opts for absolutely vivid and odd sound design. It doesn't really follow the footsteps of modern post-2000 goa where all tracks share same intensity and melody structures, but instead it feels like it's molded from the same clay that Goa originally was. It sounds weird and at all times varied, aside from the screeching acid lines that might be a little over-abundant. It is highly danceable while remaining an interesting listen at home. You could throw tracks from this album to any compilation from the 90s and you'd have a hard time saying it's not from it. There is a clear ravey and unexpectingly alien sound to everything you hear. The highpoints of this album are fantastic(Gate To Happiness, No Unexpected Errors, Homonculus, Starbirth). There are moments that will undoubtetly wreck the dancefloors with their unconventional sounds. Homonculus is a perfect example of the album not conforming to the mainstream goa sound, it's just so weird. There is a melody at 2:00 that just sounds like your auditory nerves just went into overdrive. The tracks that fall a little short from the highpoints generally have too much repetition and can sound even a little bit aimless. Just about every track brings something new to the table for this album, and while it's not perfect, like some tracks engulf too much of the aforementioned problems, it has qualities that full albums don't always have - Variance. The Tracks sound different from another! the only real repetitous sound in this album is the typical screeching acid lines that I mentioned before. If you skip albums released lately you will find the sound is quite homogenous, I didn't really feel the same here. Absolutely not what I expected! I hope that it'll stand the test of time!

  9. Artist: Goatma Title: Sword In The Darkness Label: Neogoa Date: December, 2015 1. Sword In The Darkness 2. Cosmic Consciousness 3. Spiritual Chanting 4. Shabatayom As a final farewell to 2015 Neogoa presents a short 4 track EP by GoAtma or as the Google likes to call him...Goatman. His real name is Eylon Kadish and I cannot comment on whether like the fine gentleman above he likes to steal socks and take them to his snowy homeland. Doubtful. Pretty sure I could count the number of snowblowers in Israel on one hand. They have more important things to worry about over there. That's terrorism. First I'll say this is pretty powerful. Driving the whole way through as he weaves between goa and some more uplifting style. That said it's all pretty homogeneous. The first track doesn't have a lot of variety and I found myself getting bored with it pretty quickly. Cosmic Consciousness sounds a lot like the title track even if it is a little more aggressive. The final bit of that one is like an explosion so I liked it a lot. Spiritual Chanting sounds like it could be Cosmic Consciousness Part Deux. Only now with more chanting. Which brings me back to the homogeneous point. Another thing I noticed is that the sound palette is fairly limited and that really takes away from the listening experience. Kinda like I could step away from it and come back at a later point and not feel like I missed anything. Or every episode of Friends. So you guys didn't even know one black person? In NYC? Riiiiiight. Shabatayom is the one track that I feel comes closest to it's inner Nitzho without throwing bowls of cheese at the listener. The EP itself isn't bad at all, but in a time when we have heard it all the shortcomings I've mentioned don't allow it to distinguish itself. Free at Ektoplazm

Sun Of Anjuna 07:30 10. Electric Particles (Album Version) 05:10 Maiia303 is the project of a young Russian lady Alla Vagner. This is her second album. The first one was released at Ovnimoon Records in 2014. I am not familiar with the sound of Maiia, so this is a new territory for me. The album delves into the newschool Goa trance sound and with a great success I must say. Most of the tracks here use the acid 303 sounds in some rather creative ways, but there is a heavy dose of classic Goa synth melodies, too. So let's have a closer inspection of what this album can offer. REVIEW 1. Long Awaited Journey 07:56 The opening track starts in a rather uneventful manner and gradually gains intensity with more and more sounds being introduced. The first breakdown hints on the lead melody, but doesn't reveal it. You know it's coming, but the artist keeps you waiting and maintains just enough pressure before the second breakdown. Unfortunately, there is no real payoff in the end. It's a good intro track, but no more than that. 3/5 2. Levels Of Imagination 07:56 The second track immediately shows that it has more drive than the first one. Around 2 minute mark the track explodes with a screaming 303, which is followed by the first breakdown. I really wish that part was a bit longer, but after some time the 303 returns in a slightly different form, which changes throughout. I quite enjoy this track. It's a proper dancefloor material, and it's actually interesting to listen to. 4/5 3. Goasana (Album Version) 06:10 I've noticed at this point that Maiia tends to start her tracks in a similar fashion. We have the already familiar 303 here, which is then replaced with a classic Goa melody and a murky vocal chant. The track intensifies in the second part and even gets a bit dark, but then a light and beautiful melody strikes out of nowhere. It's a neat combination, and I really like when producers combine dark and light elements in a track. This is another solid production from Maiia. 4/5 4. Beyond Borders Of Mind 06:37 Track #4 starts in a very dramatic fashion. It's a slight change of pace from the previous three tracks, which is nice. The dramatic theme follows through until the very middle of the track. Too bad the track doesn't go anywhere from there. There are some effects here and there, but in general it's quite dull. I'm not a fan of this track, but it ain't terribly bad either. 3/5 5. Temple Of Sound 08:08 The central track of the album starts with some chugging beats and bassy sounds. The intensity gradually rises with some fine synths that make the whole track sound very appealing. During the first breakdown Maiia introduces a chopped up vocal sample that helps build the pressure even more. The last third of the track brings back some 303 once again. Then, the track ends without any actual payoff, which is a bit disappointing as the first part of the track was really promising. Oh well, it was still enjoyable. 4/5 6. Calling The Tribe 06:43 I'm not sure what Maiia does differently on this one, but the production feels really mellow this time around. It's a classical Goa track with high BPM, and yet it feels really chilly. Probably it has something to do with the melody or the bassline. I still can't put my finger on it. It's definitely a distinctive track, and I really like that bassline. 4/5 7. Explorer Of The Fantasy Worlds 06:42 Finally, a track that I could really appreciate. I've been a bit underwhelmed by the first half of the album, but Maiia really shows some skills here. All elements of the track are dynamic and exciting. It's almost 7 minutes long, but I couldn't tell. This is definitely the winner of the album for me. 5/5 8. Connection With The Great Spirit 06:20 Track #8 packs some punch from the get-go, which is a nice change of pace after a series of really moody pieces. DJs should really take note of this one. It's made for firing up dancefloors! I'm happy to add another excellent Goa track to my collection. 5/5 9. Sun Of Anjuna 07:30 After two extremely well-made tracks comes another great piece with a slightly aggressive synth work. I really like the breakdown that comes after. It sets the mood for something very mysterious and almost menacing. Then, a brighter melody enters and shakes things up. This is another excellent track by Maiia. It has the dynamics and the energy similar to track #7, which I liked a lot. 5/5 10. Electric Particles (Album Version) 05:10 The final track is much shorter and clearly an edited version of a very good piece of work. I'm not sure why Maiia decided to cram all her best stuff at the bottom of the album, but that's how it is. This track is obviously very good but ends abruptly. So due to its short running time I have to cut the rating, too. 4/5 --- The first half of the album put me off a bit, since it was really mellow and it kinda dragged a bit too much for my liking. Somewhere in the middle of the album I got worried that I might not end up liking it. However, the second half saves the whole thing and that's where the best tracks are concentrated. Tracks 7, 8, 9 are the best. If you care to listen to Maiia at all, but don't have more than 20 minutes, this would be a perfect trifecta. The entire album rests on these three pieces. And the overall rating is: 4/5 Levels of Imagination is a very solid newschool Goa album with some great tracks made for both your bedroom and local dancefloors.

I suppose we are all getting older and spending time with our families to the detriment of the music. I realize I have been absent for an extended stretch and I will tell you life happens and review writing doesn't seem to be such a priority any longer. Does anyone even care to read reviews these days? I thought I would throw my .02 cents in here and maybe it will snowball into some more. Gotta at least justify the fees Mars is paying for the real estate. Been listening to this for awhile now and I'm impressed. First of all Global Sect has become a titan when it comes to releasing goa trance. They go big and mostly have released multiple CD sets of cosmic goa trance. But they don't stop there. They also do t-shirts and huge (if you like) backdrops so this label based in Mother Russia seems to be firing on all cylinders. Now if they could only take their orange, bloated grandpa puppet back and get him and his asshole family out of my country. Seriously, have you ever seen a group of bigger douchebags? This is Sergei Petrenko and after releasing a few ep's he drops an album in our laps that continues with the trend of cosmic, doing barrel rolls in a rocket ship, deep space goa trance. Just look at the track titles. Think of is as an offshoot to the label's last effort, the mega opus to the cold abyss Terraformer. It's beautifully layered and powerful creating floating atmospheres that are easy in which to get swept up. The middle of the album is my favorite and where I believe he hits his stride. The remix of Life Support System is a stellar track with just a liquid, aggressive style that I really like. Most of the album is like that so that's a win. The label has been beating that drum for awhile now so I'm sure it can get tiresome for some. But the album itself sounds fantastic and it is everything I could ask for in this type of goa trance. Also, I just want to say that I really like their artwork. Good job. BTW, top marks for using a sample from the under appreciated 1983 classic Johnny Dangerously. This music was preserved on DAT tapes by the band, and a couple of years ago the DAT Records team digitized it and with the help of the producers identified and sorted a multitude of storming Goa Trance tracks. These have been remastered and tested on dancefloors during this period and itís now time to unleash them to the future for everyone to have and enjoy. These tracks are potent DJ tools and were played all over back in the 90s, at least one DJ remembering the band's early productions being played in Goa in 1996. DAT Records is proud to present a spectacular selection of the best of the best from over a hundred tracks that the band produced in the 90s, and we are sure that many will remember these tracks from their partying times and others will delight in hearing these creations for the first time. Cosmo Drome (Piano Version) Zion 604 has basically knocked everything they have released out of the park. Very consistent which is why this release surprised me. As if you didn't already you have to take this review with a grain of salt. I never cared for the music from this artist. He didn't have the melodies of others and I always thought of his as weird. This compilation of tracks confirms my beliefs. Like the DJ's father above says, it's not my style. This isn't floaty, melodic, or hypnotizing trance. Leave it to the Japanese to make something totally different. It's not bad it just isn't for me. And that's ok. It's rife with discord. It aims to antagonize, like it's angry at the listener. It sometimes goes in weird directions that are jarring or unsafe. There were parts I enjoyed in most tracks, but it was never sustained. Sometimes it was noisy just to be noisy. And don't get me started on the annoying level of Eejyanaika. It's definitely not your run of the mill goa release but what I can say is that I appreciate the varied directions in which he attempts to steer his brand of goa. So...I'll pass on this one. Tracklist: 01 - Imbaba & 303 Trancers 02 - Hidden Paradise 03 - Cosmos In Her Eyes 04 - First Encounter 05 - Blacklight Beings 06 - Creature Of Heaven 07 - Digital Non-Sense (featuring Ephedra) 08 - Lydia Delay - After All (Imba Remix) 09 - Rising Sun For all of you who are into Goa trance but still don’t know who Imba is, I suggest to start with his netlabel UAF Records and one of his first Goa trance projects – Space Elves (alongside with Arronax, CoaGoa and SETI Project), you will slowly get the feeling about his work, ideas and style. First Encounter is his debut full-lenght album, to be released on December 9th this year on Suntrip Records. Since Nikola Petrović (yeah, that’s guy behind Imba project) from Niš is owning me a couple of beers (and even more rakijas), I was blessed to get a digital copy of his new album fresh from mastering studio in return (Balkan Goa Mafia – it’s not a joke, it’s a reality), so instead of keeping it for myself, I decided to throw out few words about this release. It comes with 9 new tracks and believe it or not – only one remix and one collaboration track. Yeah, it became some sort of bad joke to call out Imba for making so much remixes or collaboration tracks, but hey, some of the best remixes released on our label were made by him (Cellar Door, Blessings From Irij). Take a minute to think about it. As I said, new album has a lot of solo material to offer and it kicks off with Imbaba track and his 303 trancers (not sure who are thoose folks, but it seems they like acid). At the first listen you can already be assured you’ll get Imba vibe, not Imba wanna be someone else vibe. It has amazing acidic lines, perfect groove and flawless arrangement. It doesn’t try to sound ‘big’ or ‘epic’ it delivers Goa-groove and nice ride. Few melodies come and go, but it’s not your casual melodic Goa, it’s Imbabagoa. First track and I’m already liking this. Judging by the name, Hidden Paradise should be more ‘serious’ track and guess what? It is. Unlike first one, Hidden Paradise brings more melodies, a bit more of oldschool vibe and some really interesting breaks filled with nice vocals. It’s not my favorite track on the album, but if you’re into more emotive and deep Goa music, this one might do the work. However, I would love to hear the same track but with a bit more diverse and recognizable climax. Cosmos In Her Eyes was the track that I had a chance to hear even earlier and I liked the version that has been posted, but this one seems a bit improved and upgraded. Unlike the second track Cosmos In Her Eyes has slightly better climax and more interesting details throughout the track. Perhaps it’s just me, but I find this one to be one of the better Imba’s works released so far. Ahhh here we go. Aliens. Yes, Nikola loves aliens and it doesn’t suprise me why he decided to choose this track as a release title (First Encounter). It makes absolute sense because it’s one of the better tracks on this album. Fast pacing, acid lines, invoking melodies and cool speeches. I’m liking it a lot and I think it will grow on me even more. Blacklight Beings starts with an unexpected intro – I would say it fits more to some psychill or downtempo music, but after the break it picks up to more straight-forward psychedelia. Not sure why, but it’s one of the lesser Goa tracks here. Unusual kickdrums and effects starts to appear, but not in a negative way, it just doesn’t feel right as previous tracks. I’m sure it’s more an experimentation (even it still sounds like Goa music, it doesn’t deliver that much of Goa for my personal taste). With Creature Of Heaven we have totally different story, more details, more melodies, more snares and build-ups. Without any doubt this will become a true dancefloor anthem. Not sure does anyone from Suntrip tested it already on some gig, but I have feeling it’s one of thoose special tracks to be played in front of crowd. I think this sums up pretty much what you can expect from Creature Of Heaven. Ohh, here is Ephedra. And he doesn’t like digital things, just like Imba. Well, unlike the digital non-sense, this collaboration track got a lot of sense. It’s enjoyable Goa ride, spiced up with Ephedra flavour just in perfect moment to make this album even more interesting. I don’t know who Lydia Delay is, but the remix is another nice track on this album. It leans more towards classical trance sound with big and epic melodies, not chessy, but… you know, just trance. What makes the difference here is Imba’s capability to put enough of Goa ingridients to make it sound enjoyable and danceable. Not my favorite track, but it has nice groove. Last track on this album – Rising Sun isn’t a downtempo. Shocker! Yeah, I expected some downtempo or goachill for the ending, but Imba doesn’t agrees, he wants to finish this album in style so you will go through 9 minutes of really mystical, but fast-paced Goa music. Not sure why, but this track reminded me on one old Trancemaster compilation tune – it also has catchy lead melody. Nice track for the ending. So was it good? More than that. There are many reasons why I consider First Encounter more than just good. First reason is because we worked on Impossible Astronaut release for Neogoa earlier this year, and somehow I couldn’t put enough of attention towards this (newer) material. The other reason might be really nice Suntrip release schedule for this year, including a bit more anticipated releases (at least in my case) such as Ra or Morphic Resonance, so Imba wasn’t on the spotlight for me. I guess I was wrong because this album brings exactly what it’s supposed to be – Imba sound. If you’re one of thoose guys who followed him around since his first compilations on Phototropic or UAF Records, you’ll know what you can expect. It doesn’t try to be different or someone else, it’s realistic, it brings groove and it’s more or less straight-forward Goa music. I can say it’s a little bit linear on certain parts, and it wouldn’t hurt it to have a bit more variations, but it won’t bother you if you like this guys work. Regarding the artwork, I’m not the biggest fan of generic Goa artworks, but I know how much Imba likes alien imagery (as many of you), so this one makes sense. Conclusion: Even it's a bit short review under first few listens I can recommend First Encounter because it represents 7-8 years of hard-work by Nikola, not only in music making or music releasing, but also as being an important and vital part of this scene and culture. I didn't have any big expectations and I was positivley suprised by this album. It doesn't try or want to be something else, it's just honest and danceable Goa music from Balkan region - made with a lot of passion and as such, it should get a deserved attention and support. The 50th Parallel is a 2 CD compilation that celebrates Suntrip's 15th year as a Goa-Trance label. The first CD is dedicated to the sun, and is more melodic. The second CD is dedicated to the moon, and features darker Goa-Trance. CD 1 1.1 KhetzaL - Garden of Nyagrodha Trees has such a clean, organic sound. The song includes almost everything you'd expect from one of Suntrip's most beloved artists, e.g., crisp melodies, sounds, and harmonies in healthy, warm atmosphere. The song is very homogenous, developing gradually. A part of me feels that the first half could have been punchier and more memorable despite the elegant Eastern-Indian influence and attention to detail. There is a beautiful interlude in the forth minute. The energy increases at 5:48 and is accented at 6:18, and this is where I felt most immersed, thanks to the exciting, psychedelic development. At 6:44, the artist alters the arrangement, adds fresh sounds, and key notes. It's beautiful. Before the journey's end, the listener is rewarded with a beautiful, climactic finale that's almost too good for words. All in all, the first two acts were solid; they could have stood out more. Thankfully, the world grew into something more enchanting and enjoyable as we progressed. Great track. B+ / A- 1.2 Cosmic Dimension - Deviant Behaviour begins with a beautiful, ambient-influenced opening. It sounds like it should be in a Castlevania film and deserves its own [non Goa] song. Act 1 is more psytrance oriented (to some degree) until an attractive synth enters at 2:47. It's very nice! After a beat-free transition, Act 2 begins. It starts out similar to Act 1. Actually, 3:42 to 4:35 could have developed more; it got fairly repetitive, but the second part of Act 2 (forth minute) is curious, more exploratory. Here the acidic synths fade for a more traveling, unexpected, and atmospheric offering, and although my girlfriend felt that the middle act was less memorable, I liked the non-acidic shift in sound. Variety is good, and this middle act, though lacking in a star sound or element to punch it up more, made the song more interesting to me. The last act is solid too. I enjoyed the climactic, dance-friendly synth at 7:17 that elevates the energy in its final minutes. Good track! B+ 1.3 Triquetra - Electronomic -- I just reviewed Triquetra's Ecstatic Planet (2018) album that included some of my favourite songs of the year. The first two minutes alone are great. An intense synth arrives at 2:31. It's too in-my-face loud, but ignites the music. The supporting synths is creative. The music is varied, and the 2:31 lead thankfully disappears at 3:38. A brief transition takes us to Act 2, a trippy segment with an edgy synth at 3:57. It's smart and punchy. The brief accents and nuances are delectable, strengthening the second act. After a brief drumroll via 5:25, I feel like the artists' missed an opportunity to elevate the final act. It's catchy, but the last few minutes (I feel) did little to improve the whole, as if the artists' ran out of ideas or ingredients early. Musically I like the complex, punchy sound/melody work and mixing. This is a tight track that ends with a tight continuation in development rather than a bang. That said, the song takes risks, sounds distinct. It's engaging and stands out. Strong track! B+ 1.4 Sykespico - Visit Earth has one of the best dramatic opening tunes (like a symphony) I've ever heard in a Goa song. It's so simple and captivating. It adds FEELS (!!!). As the beat kicks in, so does the empowering tune that grounds the music emotionally. The first act is excellent, simply in that it merges the dramatic (epic/backdrop) tune with strong sound/melody work and atmosphere. After the 3:11 transition, I would have loved if the middle act maintained the feels, taking us to new, dramatic highs. The artist(s) remove the emotive theme however, opting for a punchier, higher octane approach and it works! The Hallucinogen-esque synths at 3:37 are excellent, maintaining an infectious sound across the forth minute that knows when to end via 4:30. The second part of Act 2 (4:51) involves new synths and sounds. It's catchy, though it feels like it could have been in a different song. The Eastern-Indian melody from 5:58 to 6:25 I could have done without. Some of these elements are underwhelming to the wonderful, dramatic opening that seemed so storytelling perfect. Fortunately, the signature tune returns for Act 3 at 6:25, anchoring us with the hook and feels before the terrific synth at 7:19. The song took longer to fade out than necessary, but that's a nitpick. Although the middle act (at times) could have been a little more congruent and complimentary to the opening/closing acts, this is one of my favorite tracks on the compilation. Well done. A- 1.5 Hada - Emaginary reminds me of Ka-Sol. No intro. Hard beat and accompanied sound. The first 2-3 times I heard this song, I didn't like it. I can't deny that the core sound though is pretty hypnotic, psychedelic. Around it, creepy FX echo across the soundscapes. There are some catchy synths in the first act, but the music gets repetitive and less interesting by (somewhere in) the third minute. A much needed and improved change takes place at 4:32 where the music feels more confident, congruent, and satisfying. We soon return to less memorable sound/melody work (by comparison), but the creepy atmosphere is very nice! The seventh minute on grew increasingly more interesting and warped. Weirder doesn't always mean better, and by the eighth minute, the song becomes a little too dependent and repetitive on the distorted effect, before switching gears to something more solid that avoids repetition from being shorter. I'm back and forth with how good I think this song is. It has some very good/great elements, but it's one of the less interesting and engaging songs on the album for me. That said, this is a pumping dark number for the less conventional crowd. B- 1.6 Crossing Mind - Over Time Frame begins with an enchanting opening. It's like something out of a romantic sci-fi film or fantasy fable. Is it possible for the artist to develop a track with the more enchanting sound developing throughout (I wonder)? I'm thinking Chi.A-D. for inspiration but taking it further. Occasionally I hear an intro by Crossing Mind, and it's so sublime that I wish the song was mid or down-tempo to increase its chances of retaining the warm sound throughout. I've been following CM ever since the release of their album, The Inner Shift in 2012. hoping that one day they'd return to the futuristic and super funky candy land of sounds that made their Inner Shift album so memorable and endearing. The first act was decent. It could have been more interesting and varied with ideas, as it became fairly monotonous until a tune arrives at 3:00. The transition at 3:25 led to more gripping development at 3:40, and the song hooked me from there. I enjoyed the synths at 4:38, the trippy transition, and how the psychedelic infected the last act. That said, the last act seemed so short-lived. It could have done more and in that sense, felt underwhelming to me. The final cloud-walking segment was nice. B+ 1.7 Clementz - Trilafon begins with a wave of dark and atmospheric ambient. It's interesting. The first act builds a psychedelic rhythm with distinct sounds. It's pretty good, but grows repetitive. The artist(s) disengage a floating hymn, but we need something to vary up the sound, to keep us hooked. At 4:26 we get our answer. This next part is radically different, lower in tone, deeper in sound, and incorporates some experimental (?), almost funky electronic work to the mix. I like that the music broke free and opted to do something different and catchy. The last act via 6:11 incorporates fresh energy, development, and synths. The music here felt more flexible and realized. The artist even reprises a synth and accent from Act 2 that enhances the music, bringing the best elements together. The song is less memorable, elaborate, and felt a little minor compared to some of the other tracks IMO, but I liked it. B 1.8 Median Project - Life Line a refreshingly sleek and dualistic journey track. The song has feels (!), determination, and optimism. Act 1 is interesting and engaging, thanks to strong sound/melody work and atmosphere. The melodies are tight, psychedelic, and tastefully layered without sounding too acidy. My only complaint with the first act is that it could have used a little more variety, nuance, and development as it progressed. Act 2 lets its bouncy (very nice) tunes breathe, introducing harmony to the storytelling development. The end of the 5th minute involving a band of melodies moving together is elegant, gripping, and beautiful. Act 3 adds fresh ingredients and ingenuity, maintaining the inspirational sound I often miss in Goa. The track is traveling and easy to digest. It develops and evolves, and is easily one of my favorite songs on both CD's. Great work!!!! A- NOTE: I googled Median Project to learn that his main album released in 2018. It's in the Psynews review thread, In the Depth of Space (and it's good). CD 2 2.1 Battle Of the Future Buddhas - Faster Than Light begins with an interesting sample and synth. The synth at 1:14 is good, though the minor tune (segment) at 1:44 was less engaging. A brief transition takes us into the more psychedelic second act thanks to stronger synths from 2:45 to 3:29. The synths exit without something catchier from 3:30 to 4:16, and I feel that something more interesting could have replaced it. Another solid part is at 5:13 where the song rebounds. But I really liked when the 1:14 synth returned at 6:14 mixing in with the remaining music. This synth is so simple and catchy. Why not build on that catchy sound rather than have it infrequently come and go? Why not build stronger segments around it? I suppose I'm nit picking since the song does have a pretty catchy sound to it. The last two minutes were good. I just expected more as a whole coming from the legendary BotFB. B 2.2 Cosmic Serpent - Fractal Colors is very psychedelic and atmospheric. We get an icy synth at 1:38 and at 2:11, it sounds like a pianist playing an ice cube piano (catchy)! Once that leaves, the music felt less focused. The psychedelic backdrop remained, and the icy (ascending/descending) effect at 2:32 was good. Unfortunately, without more emphasis on sound/melody work, the song becomes almost too abstract for its own good. An attractive synth enters at 4:14, though minimal in development, short-lived. Could this part not have led to something more exciting and fun? The last act builds on the artistry. But I feel that the sound/melody work is triumphed by the imaginative world of textures and atmosphere. Missing for me are tunes, melodies, leads, buildup, climax, feels! Have fun with it, but being mindful of your crowd. Hallucinogen's Twisted and The Lone Deranger albums for instance were both fun while being wildly inventive. I admire the ambition. This is trippy track with some great elements, plenty of experimentation, and some clever sound usage, mixing, and editing. Just make it more fun the next time around! B 2.3 Everything Turns - Darkness Falls has a solid introduction that develops nicely. The atmosphere is good. The synths are lively, characteristic, and fun. The song continuously sculptures (improves on) itself. It flows well. There's no big event or climax, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd like to hear a main album by this artist showcasing the variety of greatness (in dark Goa) that he can do. Each act is focused, punchy, and beautifully mixed, with soundscapes, accents-- enough to keep me hooked. A nitpick is the sound at 4:02. It's not bad, but it stands out so much that the song feels a little less creative, and more repetitive from 4:01 to 5:22. The sound continues, altered like a supporting synth, and I don't feel like it enhanced the song in any way, although it's not bad (there's plenty of great sound mixing around it). That said, Act 2 met rather than exceeded my expectations. Darkness Falls is a strong track, and the first one I'm calling a favourite on CD 2. A- 2.4 Proxeeus - ...But the Joke's On Mankind begins dark and mysterious. The main melody enters at 1:21-- a bouncy, ebullient synth. It's good and the supporting sounds add to the dance friendly number. Around unique accents, e.g., 2:25, the artist continuously switches out ingredients, no matter how subtle, to support the main melody. The latter could have grown repetitive, bland, but it doesn't, and I think I'd enjoy this song most on the dance floor. We get our first break from the main melody at 4:48. The segment adds variety and the few drum accents are nice, though a bit brief. The last act seemed more refined, with new variation, note changes, and minor details. I liked the atmospheric interlude because of the chilling sound, like the stirring of a Tibetan bowl at 7:50, and that it continued beyond the interlude, into the main music's return. Little things like that are unexpected, creative, and catchy, a duding to the fun. Although the song has a similar sound from the lead, I feel that the approach works, especially for dancing. This is a trancey fun song! B+ 2.5 Triquetra - Torturing The Machine continues the unconventional approach. The first several minutes are a fairly experimental and feature little more than buildup to the best parts. I wasn't hooked until 2:27 thanks to the synths. But the song's first half has issues. It seems indecisive in development. The interlude from 3:20 to 4:26 was too long considering its purpose (basically) was to get us to 4:24 where things take off. Everything past 4:24 was so much more enjoyable thanks to the beautiful sound/melody development. Also, the mechanized atmospheric effect (whatever sounds excellent. It's frustrating that the first or second act by these artists is often so underwhelming compared to the rest of the song. Compared to Electronomic, I'll take a superior second half over a less memorable third act almost any day of the week. I hope this positively influences the artists because they're very talented and have endless potential. I love that this song kept improving throughout the second half. In short, the music started at 4:24 for me. Everything else was forgettable. Once the song grew confident, decisive, and a set of balls halfway through, it was [still is] a pleasure to listen to. B+ 2.6 Morphic Resonance - Wonderland is like JAWS on a bad trip. The song has a few short-lived murky spots before rebounding to stronger waters. The core sound (baseline and synth) is solid, stands out. The first few minutes are electric, fully charged and captivating. The synths grow to be magnetic at 1:38, again at 1:50, and crossing into the third minute. I love the supporting synths and atmosphere around the leads. The first act is exciting, punchy, and intense. The arrangement (being so short) in the third minute grew slightly repetitive, but i'm nitpicking. The middle (4th minute) act started out great, but from 4:22 to 4:49 the music sounded too muddled (over-stuffed with layers), producing an unpleasant (less punchy, focused) on the ears. This took away from an otherwise stellar song (thus far). Having something less maximal and refreshing in place of 4:22 to 4:49 would have better better, and I hope this feedback helps to improve things. The music rebounded soon after, but something about the sixth minute was less punchy (dynamic?) and did little to hook me. The energy of the music is strong, sure, but it's missing something that made the song's first half so tight. Fortunately, the seventh minute onward grew increasingly magnetic, and the finale is fantastic! That's what I'm talking about! My issue here is the same recurrent one I had on the artist's 2018 album, Perplexity. Around its few less captivating moments, this is a great track that showcases some amazing work by one of Suntrip's best artists since Filteria! A- 2.7 Ka-Sol - Hysterical Mass remind's me of Hada's Emaginary to some degree. No intro (well okay, a brief one), and a hard beat and sound at 0:24. The distorted effect to the music is unique, hypnotic. It's also repetitive and went on for too long. Act 2's soundscapes were nice, adding something different. But the synths sound more like effects then actual sound/melody development. I imagine that was the intention. I find this song so hard (literally, the beat), repetitive, and chaotic though, due in part to the relentless core 0:24 sound that I lose interest. It's too much. I'm looking for a focus, a lead to hook onto, something to enjoy. Act 2 breaks the beat in place of a trippy segment, followed by a catchy bopping accent. Both are nice, and some synths (initially) seemed catchy. But the music ultimately grew too muddled and repetitive for me, despite the end even having some pleasant (less jarring) work. This song is a relentless dark stomper that's sure to appeal to some. Give the song a listen and decide. Different perspectives is what adds to the whole anyway, but I digress. I'm sure some will connect with the music and enjoy this more than I did. Hysterical Mass is just not my cup of tea. C+ 2.8 Hada - Magic Of Nature is a bit of a mixed bag. Parts are rich and engaging, while other parts are repetitive and bland. The first act starts okay before devolving into monotony from 1:32 to 2:35. Repeating the same short arrangement, primarily when it's not very good, over and over again is one way to lose your audience. After a quick fade out, the music returns at 3:31 with more creativity and development. Act 2 is a huge improvement that's topped with a strong lead at 3:54 that adds variety. Why couldn't the first act have been better considering this is the same artist who did the second act? Unfortunately, the synths (general sound) from 4:23 to 5:41 grew repetitive. The music soon rebounded, thanks to an infectious, bouncy synth at 5:47. This is a terrific part, but after a short while it became less satisfying as the music crossed the sixth minute, offering little to further develop, enhance, or reboot the climax after the lead's disappearance. This resulted in a less memorable last 1-2 minutes. The last act could have been great, but it's good intermittently. Magic Of Nature is boring one minute, and exciting the next, and that's the issue. You have to ride your winning horses, stick to (and develop) your best work. I feel like this song along with Ka-Sol's would have been better on a different compilation. It makes sense that Suntrip wanted to offer different styles of dark Goa-Trance. They succeeded. I'm simply less a fan of these last two songs. B- Conclusion For a double CD, The 50th Parallel showcases music that is sometimes marvelous, often times great, and few times disappointing. Both albums are very good, but far from perfect. I heard impressive work by many artists including: Median Project, Sykespico, Everything Turns, Triquetra, Morphic Resonance, Proxeeus, Khetzal, and Crossing Mind, and was surprised by the unconventional approaches that some of the artists took. It's fun to see artist's taking risks (at times), and Goa music continue to expand, to some degree. I feel like Suntrip was mindful to avoid generic Goa. But a few of the songs I didn't like. Maybe the inclusion of BotFB, two Hada songs along, and KaSol's was to attract fans who may be less inclined to buy Suntrip albums unless they see a familiar artist. I don't know and am merely speculating. I wish the few weaker songs were replaced with stronger ones obviously, but at least most of the songs were good. A nitpick is that there are a couple songs on CD 1 that sounded dark to me, and I thought CD 1 was supposed to showcase the light? I'm not sure where I'd rank The 50th Parallel compared to Suntrip's previous compilations. Time will tell. It's very good overall and worth checking out, especially for those who are fans of quality light (more melodic) and dark styles of Goa-Trance. Very nice artwork and cover btw! Yes, that happened to me few years ago when I discovered and heard for the first time Inner Cyclone (debut Mindsphere album which was released in 2007 by Metapsychic Records for free). It was a delightful journey into energetic and fastpaced Goa trance music filled with great melodies and striking rhythms, and now after few years and bunch of new releases, old Mindsphere still sounds very inimitable and beautiful. Patience For Heaven is Ali Akgun’s (man behind Mindsphere project) second full lenght release and it was announced on Suntrip Records as double CD, first disc with brand new tracks and second one with new remastered version of Inner Cyclone tracks. When I saw that announcement I was so curious to see will combination Mindsphere + Suntrip deliver another legendary release? With Inner Cyclone, Mindsphere established high standard(s), will he succeed to outperform himself? Play. Play it again. And again. Holy sh**. When I say it’s best produced Goa trance album in last couple of years I’m not gonna lie you with that statement. Patience For Heaven is just made perfectly, without flaws, with intelligent melodic work, best described as spiritual and emotional. Atmosphere of this release is really deep and unlike the Inner Cyclone, PFH is more calmer and even trippy, you can follow easily all details in songs. When I listened to previews on Mindsphere soundcloud few months before release, I knew it will be different but when you check complete piece than you get a new level of experience, highly positive. There are no bad tracks, everything is at right place, with perfect track list/order. If I must pick favorite, than probably at this moment it will be Ornementation tune, but I’m sure some other track will grow on me after couple of more listenings. PFH #1 Disc – 10/10 Let’s see how Inner Cyclone sounds after Tim Schuldts mastering. Play. Better. Much better. Not saying that just to add one more praise to Tims work, I’m saying it because mastering on orginal release in 2007. was bad, too much agressive and indeed, it was great decission for Suntrip/Mindsphere to release Inner Cyclone with new mastering. I’m not gonna review this second disc, there is plenty reviews on Psynews already. You can’t go wrong with this album, it’s a masterpiece. Conclusion – Probably best release in 2012 and one of the best Suntrips releases for sure. They already delivered great Crossing Mind album earlier this year and now this, you must appriciate their efforts for releasing high quality Goa trance music. Many people who are not that much into modern Goa trance told me that they dislike lack of production qualities in this genre and now I’ll be more than happy to ‘rub their noses’ with this release, because it’s produced perfectly, first disc is more releaxed than Inner Cyclone but also much deeper with superb melodic work and Inner Cyclone is, ummmm like a cyclone, fast, intense and highly psychedelic. If you’re looking for something like that, this might be perfect release for you. Congratulations Suntrip / Mindsphere, you made great album, 10 out of 10 stars from me. Bubbles In Space Timewarp Records is a goa trance factory, releasing a whole bunch of material. They cater to those who enjoy digital and physical media. This is a debut Ep from Austrian Alexander Koch and I gotta say it hit me in the sweet spot. This digital ep has three long, winding tracks that have an E-mantra feel. That's 33 minutes of kicking back and putting off today what can be done tomorrow. He shows that he's not in any hurry to unwind and lift you above the clouds. There are sharp 303s, layers aplenty, and smooth transitions into and out of breaks. What is Reality is a track that I will have on repeat for several weeks. All the tracks have a liquid feel to them leaving me very impressed. Great job! Timewarp Bandcamp

Psychedelic Quest - Crystal Moon I spent more time typing the tracklist than I plan elucidating on this disappointing 2-CD release from Timewarp Records. The first half is the definition of generic, bland "this sounds like goa trance let's put it on the album" drivel. Travma? I haven't heard a good track from him in over half a decade. Hell, a pulse wasn't even detected until Jaraluca showed up. Then the quality ticks up dramatically. But there's a reason for that. Most of the rest of the tracks have been released before on digital eps by...you guessed it...Timewarp. So this release leaves me with a bad taste. Recycled. The only reason to get it would be if you don't have the tracks from the 2nd half or if you want them on physical media. Timewarp Bandcamp Psyshop

Yes it is Nana. Trinodia is a project that we all know about (Daniel Eldström), but one that might not first come to mind. That is until you delve back into his catalog and realize he has produced several solid albums of cosmic goa trance. His latest is a digital release that is unlike any of his previous stuff. So much so that when I first heard it I had to shelve it cause I just wasn't ready. According to him it has taken years to create consisting of 5 previously unreleased tracks, two remixes, one previously released track, and an alternate version of an original. It's got some goa, some psy and full-on, and some drifting melodies. The sound is incredible, full of warmth and pleasing to my ears. It made me want to sift through the layers. He carries some M-run rhythms (Goa Feelings and Free Form) splatters some acid (Spaced Out To Noise), has a pretty good goa ripper (Deceive My Eyes), and ends with a head nodding mix of Human History. These don't sound like B-side tracks because the quality is too high. They're just...different. While not my favorite Trinodia album (that title shall remain with Human History) it is nonetheless and good high-energy effort. Trinodia Bandcamp
